The Altrinus Institute of Higher Education :: OoC

Some truths are best told through lies.

>> RP thread here <<

I'll note that this roleplay's name is rather misleading. For those seeking a purely school roleplay, this is not for you. The plot takes the characters away from the school, though it remains their "base of operations".

[ b ] e g i n ..........

The majestic structures are proud, it is in their making. They are white, pure, beholden to generations of labor, yet merely the tips of a much larger building, not outdone by their much spoken-of splendor. It is the temple of knowledge, a holy grail of a school. The grounds are surrounded by gardens of the grandest kind, trimmed trees and pristine lawns scattered between lilly-burdened ponds. This is the Altrinus Institute of Higher Education, school of the elite. A proud, private school, the students lucky enough to be allowed entrance are prodigies, each and every one a master in the making. They are easily distinguished by their pristine uniforms, which bear the eloquent school crest, and their aura of power and authority. Today they are sons and daughters from all walks of life. Tomorrow, they will be the leaders of the world and the most powerful Haeliogen users known to walk the planet.

This year there is much excitement - in the most staid, arrogant way one can muster - over the coming of new staff and students. But most excitedly recounted are the rumors that those staff may be orchestrators of a secret cult, one that has existed for centuries and oversees the murder of Haeliogen users. These are, of course, very dangerous rumors. Dangerous to reputations and careers. But all lies are based on truth, or at least the appearance of truth. And below the rumors lurks a truth rooted in the trials and devastation of wars more than five hundred years past. Truths that some would rather see forgotten....

.Literacy! Can you maybe tell by looking at the painfully long paragraphs of information following that this RP requires persons who pay attention to their spelling and punctuation? No? Well now you know. 'txttalk' is not allowed here, nor is 'l33tspeak' 'chatspeak' or anything other than what your English teacher would find acceptable. I would also really appreciate it if everyone could write third person, past tense. And not with anything like, *'s for actions and nothing for speaking. Like reading a book, please.
.Quality, not quantity. Although a two-three paragraph per post minimum would be nice, sometimes there just isn't much to write about. It does not serve to further the roleplay writing about your grandmother's quilting in the middle of an underground battle. If you've said everything relevant, then don't force yourself to keep going. However, this is still the minimum standard of the RP, so preferably you should post more than that.
.Please read all of the information. I'll grant that the descriptions of the city and Altrinus are boring, so you can skip those if you really can't be pained to read them, but Haeliogen information is essential, as is history and etc.
.This is PG-13. Because the ToS tells us it has to be. But that doesn't mean PG-13 is kid-friendly, as we often see in the movies oddly enough. We're going to have gore and violence and incest?weird entangled histories, plus swearing. All the words, you know. If you have a problem with '********', be it the noun, adjective, verb or any other form then don't stay in this thread any longer.
.This RP will go on for a long time. A long time. Hopefully. Try and post every three days at the maximum and we'll probably see this one survives. Every day is a beautiful daydream, but people have work and school and suchlike as well.
.Be nice to your fellow players out of IC. Your characters aren't you. Hopefully.
.Have fun. I am a totalitarian fun-monger and if you don't have fun you will be tortured in my government prisons until you do so! Harharhar! And don't expect the UN to rescue you.

[ c ] h a r a c t e r [ r ] e g u l a t i o n s ..........
.It's fine if there are two of a certain type of Haeliogen specialist. However, PLEASE, if you see a certain type has a ton of people applying for it, please at least consider making your character of a different type. Your character can begin as either a low to medium Class 2 or standard Class 3. If your character is a freshman, they will automatically be a Class 3.
.Altrinus institute serves kinda as a high school, you might say. There are no colleges for Haeliogen, because everything you need to know is taught during those four years. Entrance is allowed due to performance, not age, but they'll accept no one younger than 13 all the same. Student character ages therefore must range between 13 and 18.
.One can apply as a teacher. However, there will be only one of those. If everyone applies as a teacher, what happens to the students? Teacher's Class will be a high Class 2, since no one should start out as a Class 1. Type is detirmined by what specialty is taught. Because there is no college, one can be qualified to teach at a rather young age. Teacher ages can range for 21 to... I dunno, 120?
.The character's families come from all walks of life. Just because they're attending an elite school doesn't mean they have to be rich (although that's more likely). All of them were selected for their talent, and had to pass a very, very hard exam to be allowed entrance.
three :: IC world background information and RP scenario

[ h ] i s t o r y ..........
Many years in the future from now, though many years in the past from Altrinus, the world was swept off its feet and hurled into chaos by events remembered as the Testament Wars. Very little information is retained. Humans remember that there were three and that each was at a catastrophic size. Weapons so powerful were used that the whole affair would make your worst nuclear nightmares look like My Little Pony reveries. The result of such force was the creation of huge fissures in the earth, crevaces stretching for hundreds of miles in all directions. The world spun and reeled and bordered on total destruction. Civilization as we know it was wiped out, and the people who rose up from the destruction were more like corpses than humans.

But life went on. The planet healed herself, far too proud to let silly creatures such as humans destroy her, and the survivors of the human race began to rebuild their world from the ashes of their old one. The causes and participants of the Testament Wars were forgotten, burried with the past. Only a few remnants remain of the original buildings from before the wars. Most of those are knocked down, however... there is one, the evil place, where humans dare not journey and give rest to the past. Civilization rebuilt itself. Rather, it was not just rebuilt, but it thrived and advanced past the technologies of the old world. This, mostly due to Haeliogen.

[ p ] l o t .......... .
Another August, another year. Altrinus Institute hums with gossip and rumors. The new year's most popular? That the new staff has some ties to an ancient, murdering cult. The man in question is Ardemosend Bartholomew, a young gentleman whose reason for being hired onto the staff of the school is unclear. He comes bearing an ancient relic meant for safekeeping at the school, said to have been around long before the start of the first Testament War. As rumors have it, it is a relic of such unimaginable power that countless massacres have been carried out in an attempt to obtain it.

Upon his arrival, Ardemosend's attention is caught quickly by seven individuals at the school. He summons them, and explains that yes, the rumors of the relic are true. It holds enough power to start in motion events that could lead to another conflict as grand - if not grander - than the Testament Wars of days past. They will be his progenies in the effort to keep this relic out of the wrong hands, and it will recquire more than a clever hiding spot. But why them? And how? For what reason does he choose the students of Altrinus Institute of Higher Education, rather than the staff? He provides no answers.

Some things are best left unsaid. Others are better told... as lies.
four :: IC general setting information

[ s ] e t t i n g ..........
Five hundred years since the end of the third war, Altrinus Institute of Higher Academics now stands. This is really a mouthful, so we're just going to say Altrinus from now on. The classically-designed institute rests atop a step cliff, accompanied by its extensive gardens. From the highest point in the school, to the east, north and south one can see the expanse of the city-state Venitias, a grand port city made of the same white marble as the institute. Altrinus is elevated above the city on a hill, and so the students are given a breathtaking view. To the west the cliff drops into the barren lands and the beginning of the evil place. Far into the distance, many miles away, stands the silhouette of the Tower, a structure so colossal that the top is never quite visible for the clouds provide a constant veil. The ancient tower has stood for over five hundred years and it sits over the center of an X-like cross between two fissures, one of which ends just at the foot of the cliffs. Those who approach it are afflicted with hallucinations and madness, and it is commonly believed to be a sort of fortress from the Testament Wars. Whether it is still in use is unverified, however most believe it to be a deserted place cursed by the spirits of those who died in the war.

.Venitias, artisan city-state of trade and knowledge.x
The city-state of Venitias is a center for trade - both of merchantile goods and of knowledge. All sorts of goods are exchanged here. Although the city brags one of the most extensive and renowned libraries in the world it is perhaps most famous for its courthouse, which is constructed of Haeliogenic light and earth and floats in the air rather than sits upon the ground. As such, a fabulous floating staircase leads to it. Its citizens have a love of art and beautiful architecture, as well as cutting edge design and function. Thus it is one of the most decadent and advanced cities on the planet. People live in just as much comfort as they do in affluent countries today, though perhaps in different ways. There are many wonders available to Venitians not obtainable to us. Floating staircases and structures of light, wonderous feats impossible to today's Homo sapien nestled amongst familiar things such as TV's, bars, and hot showers. Of course, they are TV's with floating screens, bars where the drinks pour themselves, showers where the water seems to cascade straight out of the air. Skyscrapers of the most elegant, artistic kind and trains that run over water, civilization is doing just fine. Venitias is devided up into several sectors, each sector seperated by a small river which branched off from the single largest one. The poor residential section is for those who cannot find jobs any better than those of common maids or household help, non-Haeliogen users.

The government of Venitias is a republic-esque... thing. Officials are elected, but the elections are not always fair. Due to its position as a trade city many unsavory activities have taken place there, but the city remains free and non-dictatorial. Currently it is on a friendly terms with its neighboring nations and city-states. Venitias does not command a particularly fearsome army, however its allies are powerful and protect the city during times of tension. Even so, there has been relatively little of that even.

.Altrinus Institute of Higher Education, school for the elite and bearer of many secrets.x
The Altrinus Institute itself is white like its city. Designed in the style of old world artistic buildings, it maintains an organic looking shape that perhaps results from the fact that most old world buildings were melted by bombs when the architect referenced them. Obviously such an important and magnificent school could not be contained to just one building, so Altrinus is rather a collection of buildings. Accompanied by elegant gardens and white stone walkways, the buildings are all bundled up together upon a circular platform in the center of a shallow yet very large pool, overflowing with waterlillies and elegant white fish. At the main entrance to the institute the pool becomes the river, split down the middle by the walkway to the front steps, which flows down into Venitias and seperates the city-state's sectors. Almost every walkway has an arch adorning it somewhere, and the arch adorned by flowered vines and hanging plants.

Altrinus is a bording school, usually putting two people to a room. However, for an extra fee one can acquire a private room. Sometimes this option isn't available if enrollment is high. Alone or not, the rooms for students are exceptional, some the quality of a world class hotel suite. Newcomers to the school are often roomed with those who have been there for a year or two already, to integrate them into the school more and hopefully pick up the nuances from someone more experienced than them.

For each Haeliogen type there are three teachers, and for each basic subject (math, literature, etc) there are four. All in all there are around twenty five teachers at the school - not many. But then again, there aren't many students who can manage to get in, so in the end the student-teacher ratio remains reasonable.

Altrinus does requite that all students wear uniforms. It's a way of identifying the distinguished students when they're out of school and in the city. The girl's uniform consists of a grey blazer with the school crest on the right side, a navy-and-green plaid pleated mini-skirt, a white blouse and tie of the same pattern as the skirt, black mary-jane esque shoes, and black knee-high socks. Boy's uniforms are the same grey blazer, grey formal pants, black dress shoes, white blouse and plaid-patterned tie.

It is said that Altrinus not only serves as a school, but as a government safe for various national treasures. Many relics are put on public display for viewing and study by the students, as well as anyone else who'd like to come up from the city to see them.

School term begins in early August (3rd, 4thish) and lets out in mid May (13th - 16th).
five :: IC haeliogen information

[ H ] a e l i o g e n ..........
You probably have a lot of questions after all this, but most prominantly, what the hell is this Haeliogen? You've heard its praises sung at least fifteen times by now.
First discovered after the end of the third Testament War and named for its first manipulator, Stewart Haelian, Haeliogen (Hey-lee-oh-jen) is a new type of matter that is within human reach and able to be manipulated. Anyone who is taught can use Haeliogen, like learning to ride a bike. In its pure unrefined form, it simply appears as a darkness in the air, an absence of light. When it is manipulated and refined for a more specific purpose, it changes many different colors depending on what it is used for. The average person can do so with the proper tools and training. However, this sort of training is a life-long process, and a very hard one at that. All good paying jobs are offered first to those with Haeliogenic abilities. There are many schools for learning to manipulate Haeliogen, however some are more qualified than others. Just your luck, Altrinus is the finest Haeliogen school in the world.

.Types of Haeliogen.x
As has been mentioned before, in its unrefined form Haeliogen is simply a mass of blackness. It is a summoned medium, the mind interacting with certain energized molecules and substances on a cellular level, and it takes many years to hone the skill of just making it appear. You could call this your elementary school years. Once it has been summoned, however, it can be changed into a variety of different things.

1. Electrical energy - easiest thing to make out of Haeliogen and what it is usually used for, electricity is practically a biproduct of summoning.

2. Elemental Energy - Although it can only effectively produce fire, water, and earth, some have been able to influence air with haeliogen and create wind. However, haeliogen is generally commanded to replicate what is already present, such as turning a drop of water into a gallon of it.

3. Light and Shadow - Light is a tricky thing to master by itself. The initial summoning produces electricity, which gives one momentary lighting of course, but unless a lit match is already available one is pretty much left in the dark. To create light from nothingness, the original dark energy of haeliogen, one has to inverse its composition. This is hard to do for several reasons: 1) because no one is really sure what haeliogen actually is or what it's made of, only that they have some control over it, and 2) trying to make light from haeliogen is kind of "luck of the draw". Shadow on the other hand is easy, because that is what haeliogen appears as when summoned. But it's not very useful, is it?

4. Physical Forms - Like with elemental energy, one needs a base of pre-formed metal or plastic or whatever it is you want. That, and an already prepared design for the manipulator to memorize. This is yet another tricky form, as the user must keep track of both comprehending the design and forming the materializing substance into the right shape as the haeliogen works, so there is a lot of multitasking going on.

.Class Ranking and Abilities.x
Because of all the uses for Haeliogen, there are naturally many jobs available to those who can use it. But what kind of job and how well paid one will be for it depends almost entirely on the user's class and type.
Class detirmines your over all skill level in working with haeliogen. Type represents what sort of manipulation the user specializes in, and were numbered above. All students start out as Class 3's, the least powerful of all Haeliogen users, and then hopefully advance up the scale to Class 1, the most powerful users. Class 2 encompases a very large range. One doesn't simply stop being mediocre and skip straight to being godlike. When first being promoted to a Class 2, a user really is only a little bit better than a Class 3. And by the end of Class 2, they are just about to meet the requirements for Class 1 and can manipulate on a level just below it. It is not a sudden jump, but a gradual process of skill building over time.
Very few "class 1, type 3"s (first class light and shadow users) have ever been known to exist, no matter what school the student has come from. Some even go so far as to say that only the prestigious Altrinus Institute should have the authority to give such an honored title.

Class 3, type 1: You can basically summon some energy and make some static electicity, as well as boost the output slight of some currently powered machines, but that's it.

Class 3, type 2: Yay, you can keep a small fire alive even if it's doused by water, that's about the general skill level you're at for all elements.

Class 3, type 4: You now have two one-inch squares of metal! And now one of them is shaped like a star! Congratulations!

Class 3, type 3: You made the air a slight bit warmer, maybe, and things a little brighter, but you're no where near mastering light.

Class 2, type 1: Able to make sparks, power (or fry the circuits of) small machines, play nasty tricks on your friends by making their hair stand up, and do other things of similar skill level.

Class 2, type 2: You can make more fire, water, earth elements, and slight wind gusts by duplicating what is given to you and throw them at some people, but have little control over what they do after that. If you have been focusing solely on air, you may be able to float yourself a foot off the ground.

Class 2, type 4: Capable of making small, working machines or other structures with simple designs.

Class 2, type 3: Now have the ability to create small balls of light/shadow, manipulate them into various shapes, and read in the dark without having to hold that annoying flashlight at the same time.

Class 1, type 1: Walking electrical powerhouse. You could shock people with enough energy to kill them or save them, can create lightning bolts, power an entire building by yourself for a while, stop and start giant machines easily, and even control a person's body movements by manipulating nerve impulses. (Just try not to fry their brain while you're doing it)

Class 1, type 2: You can not only create fire from the tiniest bit of heat or flammable substance, water from the lightest moisture in the air, earth from the smallest speck of dust, air from, uh... air... but you can also control it and change it into any shape you'd like and manipuate it how ever you'd like. Those who've focused exclusively on air in their training can manipulate it to the point of being able to fly a good twenty feet or so off the ground.

Class 1, type 4: You are now able to create complex machines and structures masterfully, move large, heavy metal objects through the air like feathers, change the composition of the metal, liquidize it, solidify it, and so on.

Class 1, type 3: Able to create convincing illusions, light entire an entire city sector, blind people, create intense heat (but not fire), temporary invisiblity through illusions, and make pretty colors. :'D Yay rainbows. You can also shape shadows into creepy monsters, throw an entire or building room into pitch darkness no matter what else is happening in the building, and create intense coldness.
The reason type 4 comes before type 3 in the list is because type 4, despite being discovered later, is actually easier to master than type 3.

How are Classes and types assigned? One moves up in Class after an examination during whatever training program they are enrolled in. The examinations are held annually, and type is detirmined by the user's strongest area of manipulation. One can graduate from school at any Class, but that Class also becomes your resume for jobs, so it's definitely good to be Class 2 or higher. Of course, many people continue studying Haeliogen even after leaving school, and naturally their skill level would improve with time. Because of this, there is an optional, once a year reassesment conducted by the government, available to those who have officially graduated from any of the Haeliogen training programs.

[ c ] h a r a c t e r [ b ] i o s ..........

Username: Silencieux
Character Name: Ardemosend Bartholomew
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Class and Type: None
Occupation: School Staff... of sorts.
Personality: The world is mad and he is jaded. The rest is nil.
Appearance: Ardemosend has the look of one who chooses his appearance very carefully on a day to day basis, based on what will happen in that day or what he intends to have happen. The way he ties back his hair, the color of his socks, all of it hinged on some strange variable that is meaningless to other people and all powerful to him. His hair is a pale color like rotted wheat, a mixture of white and brown and gold. White, for the most part. He has allowed it to grow far too long for the fashion of the day, it ends in a very non-trendy manner at his shoulderblades, but always pulled back into a practical yet loose pontytail. His bangs frame his face, too short to be pulled back with the rest of his hair, yet far too long to be left in his eyes. As a result he's constantly bothered with brushing strands away from his eyes, an unnatural purple color. There is something sinister about his eyes, though they do not glow or change colors or express any other interesting traits save their unusual color. His skin is yet paller than his hair and much less of a warm color. On his hands patches of blue veins are easily spotted, as if his skin was made of translucent paper rather than cells.

He is most at home in suits - be they pinstripe or plain black. Sometimes with cravats, sometimes just ties, other times uniformal and just left open over a white shirt. The old world dress has never gone out of style, its antiquity is its appeal. At times it'd be almost fitting to see him sporting a cane and top hat. Unsurprisingly, sometimes he does have a cane with him. An inconspicuous black stick. Yet he never carries it under his arm like one should a cane, nor does he set it upon the ground to lean on. He just carries it. But despite his affinity for suits Ardemosend does take time to relax in less formal attire. Every so often he'll appear in a regular tee shirt or a pair of jeans, despite how it sometimes looks like a violation of nature for him to do so.
Background: Nae, biznatch!
Tidbits: He's horribly adverse to strawberries, and he likes the violin.

Username: Cyame Lucferin
Character Name: Braeden Valen
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Class and Type: Class 2, Type 3
Occupation: Student
Personality: A little on the odd side, Braeden isn't someone you'd go up to if you were the new kid. He's quiet, reserved, and a little creepy looking at first glance. For those who know him, even if at a distance, he is a vat of knowledge as he spent a lot of time in the Institutes many books. Due to that fact he has no aversion to the sharing of knowledge he finds himself at times rushed by freshman who want help. This ends swiftly when they discover that he will help them if they really need it, not just because they feel lazy.
Appearance: Rising to a height of 5' 11" he is extremely average in build. Unlike many of the athletic, or intellegent, looking students that the Institute houses, he looks very plain. No distinguishing features to speak of the only way to pick him out of a crowd is his hair. Hanging down to the small of his back, completely unbound, and rusty-red, it acts as a beacon for those trying to spot him. Unlike many who come to Altrinus he does not come from a rich family, as a matter of fact he has no family. As such he has never worried about trends or styles, such things were a waste of time and money he has never had. Many times, because of it simply hanging wildly, Braeden's hair will be in front of his face hiding his stone grey eyes. Although they function just fine, they seem to lack the gleam that of life you'd see in most people who are, I don't know... alive. Overlooking this fact he isn't bad looking, but he is far from someone that girls swoon over, or even notice. Beyond being the friend that most boyfriends fear will steal their girlfriend for some reason Braeden can't grasp, girls have had little interest in him since his arrival at Altrius. Wearing the standard uniform over his bland form, Braeden could easily cut his hair and simply cease to exist in the view of the world. Just another faceless, nameless number among the students.
Background: Doesn't really have much of a background, he's an orphan. For the early years of his life he lived under the watchful gaze of the Android, Caretaker, who ran the facility. Until his abilities with Haeliogen started to surface, he looked to be on a fast road to living on the streets as just another homeless person in the poor quarter. Though when they did develop, Caretaker promptly sent in forms to Altrinus, as per protocol. Since that time Braeden has been a resident student of the Institute and doesn't even leave on holidays as there is no where for him to go back to. A few years after he joined the school the orphanage was torn down to make room for a low income housing complex to help offset the homeless populace issues.
Tidbits:
- Has odd scars on his left jawline just below the ear, forming a "not equal to" (( =/= )) like symbol. The origin of this scar is unknown to even Braeden himself, however he has had it for as long as he can remember.
-Although he is capable of manipulating Light fairly well to the standards of his Class, he avoids using it like the plague. His reasons for such a segregation aren't known.

Username: Anya! XD
Character Name: Consuella Maria del Real aka Bug
Gender: female
Age: 13
Class and Type: Class 3, Type 4
Occupation: Student
Personality: Precocious and smart, Consuella is one of many gifted brats entering Altrinius this year. This one, however, has the stubbornness of a mule and the pride of a jaguar. Not to mention the resourcefulness of a pack of squirrel monkeys. All packed into a cute little package. That's right. Being the youngest, shortest and weakest in a family of marauding brothers and sisters, Consuella has learned to use her disadvantages as her strengths. And when Miss del Real puts her mind to it, few can resist the charming smile and innocent eyes. No wonder her nickname is Bug. Get it?

Appearance:
If you are to be number one, you gotta stand out. Bug's urge to stand out materialized in bleaching her black hair into something resembling orange (the intention was to become blond). The fiery, ragged strands of hair are held up into two bushy pigtails, the ends of which are bristling in all directions. Considering that Bug stands a wee 5'2'', the two orange mops are pretty much all one sees of her. If investigating further, one finds that Bug has tawny skin and a pair of dark, and very probing eyes, followed by a button of a nose and a perpetual smirk. At that point of investigation you are usually already involved in conversation with sweet little Consuella, who is pestering you about ins and outs of Haeliogen manipulation.

In terms of Bug's fashion sense, it is practical at best and grungy at worst. She abhors the idea of wearing a skirt, much less a mini skirt and has arrived to Altrinius with a petition, signed by the Cardinal of the Americas (however fishy that seems) stating that she is to be "allowed to cover her legs, due to her religious upbringing and natural modesty". Her plan is to either wear the boy's uniform, or at least a pair of jeans under the damn skirt. Determined to be always prepared, Consuella lugs a digital camera, a notebook and a portable electronic encyclopedia with her at all times. A Type 4 Haeliogen manipulator, after all, must have keen attention to detail and an almost eidetic memory to become good, and Consuella is planning on becoming brilliant. Oh, and no, the puberty has NOT kicked in. In fact, it seem to have forgotten Bug alltogether.

Background: Consuella, like the rest of the children in the upper class del Real household, was born in the shadow of her oldest brother, Juvenal. Juvenal had attended the illustrious Altrinius Institute of Higher Education and graduated as a Class 1, Type 4 Haeliogen manipulator and the valedictorian of his class. That fact was never to be forgotten again in the del Real clan and Papa, himself a graduate of Altrinius, never failed to remind his "lesser" children of the accomplishments of their eldest sibling. Too bad, really, that since then noone else in the family managed to pass the entrance exam. Except the youngest one, Consuella. Now, determined to not only fill the large shoes given to her, but stubbornly driven to outshine her brother, Bug is bound for Altrinius.

Tidbits: Sugar addict, can live on 4 hours of sleep, hates spiders and roaches, loves roller coasters, very ticklish.

Username: Elevar
Character Name: Julian Lachesis
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Class and Type: Class 2, Type 1
Occupation: Student
Personality: Generic rich kid sent off to a school with other generic rich kids and some token poor children, needs more onions.
Appearance: There is a certain method to Julian's appearance depending on his mood, wakening experience, and current climate. If all the factors are postiive then he will often be bright and cheerful in both appearance and personality. In the event of any factor going bad, his clothing will usually reflect that. This is the sign of a wardrobe of monsterous size lurking somewhere.

Julian's hair is best described as lively blonde on the scale of color. Not pale and yet not fading into the strawberry blonde pink shade. 'Styled mess' or something like that as strands flip both in and out before an uneven cut off at his jaw, some strands go further still but only to the sides and back. Often he will be forced to sweep bangs aside when they become too concentrated in one place. Normally the unlucky victim of this will be the corners of the mouth or his eyes. Those who do not know Julian out of the school enviorment often do not know his eye color. Perhaps as some sort of rebellion against the school uniform he wears a pair of indigo tinted glasses. Were it not for them being prescription it might be a problem. After school ends depending on what is going on he might take the time to put in contacts. Despite all that long and pointless explanation his eye color borders on teal with an intense green, blue combination.

Like everyone else in the school there is not much to do about class hours. The uniform is a requirement after all. There is not alot of customization to be done with that outfit so lets move on. When not looking like a clone Julian is best suited for brighter, warm colors. There is a noticable obsession with furred collars and cuffs going on here that is best left unspoken of. Typically the color scheme is orange, white, and yellow to the point that his appearance is senselessly uplifting and positive. Poster model child with a bright future in making money off appearance selling.

Background: Julian is something of the social type and as such is well known among the general school populace. This is not to say much is known about him as despite being talkative, he is not insane about giving out personal details. This is generally accepted to be a bred in trait for all people who's family has stocks in buisness and an accomplished place in government. The things that most limit at knowing are as such: two brothers, one sister, has had several pets, his family is epic in size, and his home is located not far from the school.

Tidbits: Julian does not like onions, angsty kids, or the fact that his parents will not let him become a fashion designer after graduation. That whole 'You must take over family buisness or you shame your famiry!' thing and all. Find out the rest on your own.

Username: Tofu Pannie
Character Name: Ada Defarge
Gender: Female
Age: Turning 17 in about...soon, Mmkay?
Class and Type: Class 2, Type 3.
Occupation: Student
Personality: Under normal circumstances, Ada refrains from engagement in conversations, most of the time because she isn't paying any attention to what people are telling her outside of class. Every once and a while, you'll see her talking with some poor child who may have asked her for directions and she'll do her best to confuse you as much as possible, and then laugh on the inside when you pass by her the fifth time crying and worried because you're utterly lost. Her face is almost always in a bit of a half-scowl, half-smartass smirk. If you don't know something, she'll be the first one to point it out to you, followed by a snide remark you probably didn't deserve. You can't blame her, she's just very irritable and a little PMS-y. Well, you could, but that isn't the point.

The point is you won't know any of that until it's too late.
Appearance: At first sight, Ada certainly stands out. Wild jet black hair sitting on her small shoulders and wise blue eyes that stand out against her light skin and crooked nose, she may not seem all that pretty to you, but none of that matters to her. Standing at about 5'6", she's average height, and average weight at 122lbs., she isn't overly built or underdeveloped, which makes it all the easier on her for maneuvering about the various places she wanders. Her body does hold a weathered look to it, however, with the many scars and bruises she always carries about her skin proudly. You'd think someone who was rich would look a lot more refined, but in Ada's case, you'd be wrong.

Her body consists mostly of legs, because she was still trapped in an awkward teen stage, in which half of her body would grow out before the rest. Up to about a quarter-inch up her knees she wields a dark tan, from her childhood, and up to her elbows she also carries this tan.

When the cooler seasons rear their ugly head, she'll put her hair down to cover her ears and keep them warm, rather than get a hat or someting. Typically, it is tied up in a loose ponytail with an orange makeshift beret, to keep it out of her eyes, although this is usually in vain. She does look a little rough on the edges, but when the time calls for it, she can pull out all the cards and become quite the looker.

Her wild hair tamed and settled at her shoulders, adorning her upper chest with loose strands, and an elegant form of dressing to suit the curves a woman in full bloom is blessed with, thin lips curved into a witting smile, she can catch the eye of a man or two. However, this would only be done if she were in an odd mood for some reason, or it was somehow needed to get a laugh.
Background:Well, she was born and her family was rich. She got everything she needed in life, but hardly anything she wanted, which usually consisted of big books with dirty titles (like 'Moby d**k' And then they'd giggle because she said it.) So, in order to prevent detah vis boredom, she would run around in the family garden and get dirty and messy and all scratched up, to scare the hell out of her parents. She did it for so long that her parents caved in and finally bought her enough books to keep her happy for a very, very long time. Hence the always having a book around.

Tidbits: Well, she is like many other students around the school, rich. That, and she has problems with small children. Mainly how she hits them with whatever is closest, typically for no real reason.

Username: The Crimson One
Character Name: Riley Darrione
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Class and Type: Class 2 Type 3
Occupation: Student - Sophomore
Personality: You want to know his personality? He's a prankster, plain and simple. Beyond that he's a flirt, and is usually trying to gain attention in some way. And he's confident, almost to the point of arrogance, and sometimes beyond. Yeah, there are more layers than that, but those aren't shown to the general public.

Otherwise, there'd be more detail here, but hey. You'll find out eventually.

Appearance: Here, we get quite a bit more detail. First, however, lets start off with the basics. The school uniform.

Now, most people would think that there wouldn't be much room for customization. And yeah, I suppose there wouldn't be, if you really cared about the rules. But this being Riley, we all know that doesn't matter. Thus, he usually keeps the blazer open in an overly casual manner, and he ignores the tie completely, not even wearing it. The rest, he admits there's not much to do with. Admittedly his pants look a little more worn, and the shoes more scuffed, but he's more active than most so this is to be expected.

More physically, it should be noted that buildwise, he's merely average. Not tall, not short, not thin, not fat. Just somewhere between all of them. His reddish-brown hair is longer than most boys keep it, but not too long, instead kept in a short ponytail. Let loose, it's reach maybe his shoulderblades. His eyes, too, are a plain brown. But there's a glint in them, part intelligence, part mischeviousness, and part something more, that makes them quite interesting. At to that his playful smirk, and the smattering of freckles under his eyes, and he's actually a fairly good looking guy. Not spectacular, not a heartthrob, but he definitely looks better than average.

To accent everything, he has a little addition of his own style. One that he has yet to see anywhere else in the school, which surprises him, as it isn't even against the dresscode. Even in class, Riley is usually wearing a boys cap. Though in class, it's usually used to block out the light while he naps.

Background: Riley's situation is fairly well known. A teen from one of the poorer sections of the city, he's someone that most of the people in the school would never have expected to be able to come to Altrinus. In fact, because he's a scholarship student, many of the more snobbish ones wonder why he hasn't been expelled for his pranks yet. The ones more in the know, however, have likely taken a look at his school records and know the reason he was invited to come to Altrinus, and why he's still there. A troublemaker he may be, as he proved many times in his first year with his spetacular pranks, but if they can get him to graduation, the higher ups in Altrinus are almost certain that simply having taught him will raise thier reputation even more.

Not that Riley cares much for thier hopes for his future.

Tidbits: Riley has an accent. A heavy one. However, he usually masks it, and most people in the school don't even know it exists. Now, the accent only pops out when he's either very relaxed, or under alot of stress.

Username: Silencieux
Character Name: Rae'a Ravenscraft
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Class and Type: Class 2, Type 2
Occupation: Student
Personality: She has a demeanor to match her appearance, cold and lacking. Her mouth is always set in the same neutral display - neither a frown nor a smile. But this is not to say that she's emotionless, for she is far from it. Her eyes display all manner of emotions. Puzzlement, anger, fear, joy, and so on. However these are merely slight changes in the overall look of her face. She is quite adverse to allowing others to see her full feelings on any matter, thinking that it may give someone the upperhand. To her, life is a cruel chain in which you have to deal damage in order not to recieve it. She constantly looks to proove herself and gain the respect of her peers, in order to keep potential predators away.

Being a type 2 user, she has a relatively good control over all elements, however she focuses on wind. Although she has no interest in being able to fly in the near or far future, she is nevertheless very disciplined in her study of the element and often neglects the others in order to understand it more.

Rae'a is rather intolerant of those she knows she won't have to deal with often and is quick to distance herself from them. Although she respects those she interacts with while around them, she dislikes being bothered repeatedly. So one could say that she's a loser with no friends. Yeah, suxorz.
Appearance: She has a pale, pasty look to her at all times. Her skin has the look of someone heavily powdered with white lead. Her lips are such a pallid color they border on fading into the rest of her face, though a coating of carefully applied lipgloss fixes this little problem. A shade darker than being white, her eyes are the color of decaying linen. A creamy mix of lavender and cornsilk and ivory. They are far too gentle and fearful-looking for a girl of her demeanor. Her hair is shock white, brushing just past the curve of her shoulders. Her bangs are far too long to be allowed left hanging in her face, cut in a feathered and layered sort of style, so she pins them back with black hairclips. Her heritage is a confused mix of nationalities, eyes slanting downwards on the insides, like a curved teardrop shape, giving her the look of middle eastern descent. Yet she acquired from somewhere a soft jawline and the full lips of east asian faces.

Aside from her extremely pale complexion, she is rather unremarkable otherwise. She is at a fairly average height of 5'4", her body neither fully developed or too immature for her age. Rae'a does not work out or participate in sports, thus she sports little to no noticable muscle mass. However, she does enough running around between classes and extra credit activities that she keeps in shape just fine. She does not slump or walk in any particular funny way that would mark her as different from anyone else in the crowd.

It is rare to see her out of her Altrinus uniform. She does not change out of it after school, and rarely emerges from her private room during the weekends. When she does have to emerge without her uniform, however, she is garbed completely in black. Not black like chains or black with rips and holes and studs or other such gothy-attire, a black dress with long sleeves and a high collar, black tights and black shiny mary jane shoes. A black lacey veil for her face. Old fashioned funeral attire.
Background: Rae'a comes from a rich family of a high social status. Her father being involved in government, her mother a sculptor, both are respected and excel in their chosen profession. Far from being an only child, Rae'a is their fourth to attend Altrinus. Her parents donate a hefty amount to the school each year, which probably hastened her easy acceptance and encouraged her distanced attitude towards her peers.

As everything was given to her without asking, Rae'a always accepted the fact that some people simply have it better than others and always will. She asked for little in her life, but felt no remorse or sorrow when passing through the slums and seeing others who had less than her. In her early years she had figured all people had a set place in life, and the best one could do was function at the level one was born to, do no harm and thou shalt recieve now. However, an encounter with a young boy from the poor sector of Ventias changed her attitude and set into motion her ambitious 'eat or be eaten' attitude to social status.

Tidbits: Rae'a has jars and jars of rainwater in her room, all of which have been collected from thunderstorms.

Username: Prince.Paradox
Character Name: Narcisse Vandreat (Last name: Van-dree-ot)
Gender: Male
Age: 17 (approaching eighteen)
Class and Type: Class 2 Type 2 (with type 1 as a sub-type)
Occupation: Full-time student
Personality: Narcisse is, by definition, confident to the border of being arrogant. As in keeping with this pride, he naturally competes with nearly everything he does, right down to how fast he can get to class. He's not shy in the least, and will approach any subject with a smile, and an air of honed intelligence, sometimes giving a misleading impression that he has mastered the topic already, when in fact, he's only heard small details. Although sometimes overbearing, he's not a malicious or hateful person, so he can be found to be easy to get along with. Rarely is he seen alone, as, simply, who is there to race or be betterthan when you're alone?

Appearance: Physically, Narcisse is only slightly special, being that unlike many modern youths, he needn't exercise to maintain a slim, muscular appearance - although he is often involved in school sports or even casual running. The idea is that even should he slump into a streak of laziness, his physique would not suffer.

In tandem with his confident nature, Vandreat is never seen slouching or walking slumply. He has a firm, controlling and dominant attitude, and shows it when he walks, fully erect and tall. Sometimes imposing is his height, an above-average 72 inches.

Narcisse could, by contemporary standards, be considered a girl magnet, but he finds them at times annoying, and although he's not known to be rude to a woman, he is more likely to simply ignore them in the first place. As such, he has a flawless face with eagle eyes set in a blue-green casing. Additionally, his hair is lighter than blonde and very thin, allowing for straight, fashionable styles. He's allowed it to grow longer, and often ties back the longer portions of his hair, leaving the stray hair to cascade in front of his eyes in an alluring manner.

Simple black-framed glasses adorn his face daily, although he does not need them for the more mundane activities life at the academy demands. Reading, primarily.

Background: Coming straight out primary school into Altrinus at his parents behest, Narcisse was enrolled even before he graduated from his final year in the lower classes. He'd been acknowledged as gifted - even profoundly advanced - by his earlier teachers, and his parents, being typically wealthy and Haeliogen users themselves, forced his departure for Altrinus.

He didn't complain, wanting to not only seek their approval, but to avoid becoming poverty-stricken as it could be seen across one of the many tributaries in Venitias.

But now as he nears graduation from Altrinus - one more year! - Vandreat begins to realize that there's more to it than simply making his parents happy or being successful. He sees it as somewhat of his responsibility to contort the Haeliogen, given that his talent exceeds most.

Tidbits: Narcisse is excellent in manipulating air-related Haeliogen, and only 'proficient' in the other type 2 branches. However, he is slightly more than such with type 1 manipulation, and knowledged on the remaining two types, although his prowess does not extend that far.

Username: playground.economics
Character Name: Abigail (Gail) Corel Farage
Gender: size 36 B breastestes.
Age: sixteen.
Class and Type: none apply.
Occupation: Book-keeping assistant of 'The Friend'.
Personality: A mystery.
Appearance: Abigail was birthed for show and for breed, so you can bet that she is a looker. One wouldn’t call her beautiful- no, none would. Beauty requires a spark of life, which was stifled by a firm hand her first years of childhood. She is considerably pretty though and this could never be denied. With mocha skin, it would be wise to assume that Abigail comes from a mixed family of African American and Caucasian. Both sides of her are strong in trait however, which causes a cancellation of any negative quality’s either race could give when it comes to presentation of the body and face. She stands at a slightly above average height for a girl her age, about 5’ 7”, and weighs a lush 132lbs, which stretches along her bones to give something nice to hold at the hips, thighs and buttocks, which she has a lot of. She isn’t fat, for her body is perfectly toned in all necessary area’s that were ‘made’ to please, but she isn’t thick either. Her breasts are at the ‘perfect’ size, a little more then a handful and have a mind of their own. Her body gets little attention however unless it’s bare, so time to move on. She has visibly soft, wavy chestnut hair, graced with natural highlights that fall to her mid-back.

The girl’s locks frame an oval cranium, which is graced with the loveliest of facial features. Her eyebrows are carefully waxed into provocative lines, and lack any possible middle hairs thanks to tedious appointments with a laser surgeon. She has deep, dark clandestine brown eyes that dangerously eat up the world around her, and she does little to hide this, blatantly telling those that actually look at her that, “I am curiosity, and I ******** slaughtered that cat.” She also has a pair of thick Sea-green glasses, having refused surgery and starved herself just for them. Abigail isn’t allowed to wear them often though, often wandering around as if a blind bat. Below these frames is a typical long nose, the bone structure beneath it’s skin unnoticeable. Her nostrils are exceptionally tiny, formed in the shape of a kindergarten drawn bird. Her bottom lip is fat and about width of a woman’s thumb nail and then some, her bottom lip falling along the lower, but considerably thin compared to it’s mate, with just enough curve required in a classic, red movie kiss. Their color is not red though, for heaven’s sake no. Abigail hates the color red. Instead, their color is a ‘pretty pouty pink’. They are the width of a few inches and have been taught that, when smiling, they should precede no more than three.

Abigail’s ears throw this all off balance however, causing a bit of an argument with one’s eyes. They are a good size larger than her breeder expected, and the only thing that Abby truly loves about her body. They are, much to her oppose however, hidden by her mane of fluff. The clothing she usually adorns with such a body and face consists of skirts, tight jeans and cleavage shirts. It’s more of a requirement really, but there is no way Abigail can say that she wishes differently. Yes, on the occasion she does, but she finds herself truly free the days she can prance around, half freaking naked and with no fear of being looked down upon. Whenever possible she is bare-footed, but otherwise can be found with a simple pair of worn-down sneakers.
Background: A mystery.
Tidbits: She loves watching fish of any color and size, but preferably in a fish tank, since deep water scares her. Abigail also likes Gummy worms, something thankfully not lost in the previous wars.

Username: SleepingShrew
Character Name: Chloe Olivia Spaulding
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Class and Type: Class 2, Type 4
Occupation: Student
Personality: Because of her father, Chloe has become very good at developing a “public persona.” She can be charismatic, compelling, and generally endearing at any and all social gatherings and important meetings. She’s an articulate young lady, a decent entertainer, and an overall good seed.

Now to step away from Barbie and her dream house.

Away from the cameras, media leeches, and people she’s supposed to impress, Chloe is a very hard-working and down-to-earth individual. Studying is fun for her, as is reading and losing herself in the grand Venitias library. Very committed to her manipulation of the physical domain, she will often spend hours perfecting even the tiniest thing about her newest machine, even if it looked and worked fine before. Obviously, she’s a bit of a perfectionist, but only with herself. Never will she yell at somebody for a job ill performed or a mistake made. In fact, she is very forgiving and embracing of others, surprising when she punishes herself internally over the tiniest slip-ups. Not much upsets or surprises her, in fact, she will oftentimes play along with anything ridiculous or absurd that comes up, if only for a lark. Despite her addiction to studying and perfection, she’s very appreciative of fun of all shapes and sizes, and sees her peers as relief from her own little world.

Another noteworthy aspect of Chloe is her obsession with the past. She’s absolutely fascinated by the Testament Wars, and wishes she could just dive back into time to know what they were really about. She collects stories and tales that people tell about the world before the Wars, writing everything she hears down in a little notebook that she keeps at her side always. If it’s written in pre-War English, she needs to see it, if only to just look at the words. Through a few borrowed copies of translated and untranslated copies of books from the times before the Wars, she has managed to pick up a bit of pre-War English, though she’s far from fluent. She can recognize a number of words, and sound out sentences when they’re presented to her, but in no way could she construct any on her own.
Appearance: While she gained a lot of her personality traits from her father, Chloe looks much like her mother. More specifically, Olivia, her mother’s mother. Her face is elegant and sly, almost fox-like. Ending in a pointed chin and a gentle, sloping jaw, it’s a unique sort of pretty. Though she rarely does, her lips seem to be just made for pouting, and are often slightly redder than they normally would be from her bad habit of chewing on them when nervous or bored. Her fair complexion has prompted a few freckles to dot across the bridge and tip of her princess nose, though more spread across her face if she spends a great deal of time outdoors. Beneath somewhat arched eyebrows are her finely shaped baby blue eyes. Nothing says “wholesome” like the pure and simple blue of her irises. Sometimes, they look a bit green under certain lights, especially because of the yellowish rings around her pupils. Fitting with her fair skin and light eyes is the color of her hair. A soft ash blonde, it’s neither outstanding nor inconspicuous, but rather, seems to be just right for her. Instead of leaving it long, Chloe has kept her hair rather short in a bob of sorts. The part is on the left, with a spray of half-bangs sweeping across the right side of her face reaching all the way down to the framing strands that reach nearly level with the tip of her chin, even with the straight-falling other side. Traveling from the front of her face back to the nape of her neck, her hair angles upwards in a gracefully slanting bob that ends just below the base of her skull [midway between where her spine connects and her skull begins] with the fine hairs at the nape of her neck trimmed to preserve the neat style.

Like mommy in face, like mommy in body. Being the only girl child of the Spaulding family, Chloe became, almost by definition, the shorty of the bunch. Reaching a petite height of 5’3” with no hope for growth, Chloe has been forced to accept that fact that she is and forever will be a shrimp. However, the mysteries of genetics never cease to amuse. In being short, she is also decidedly curvy, with a very short waist that starts almost directly beneath her ribcage and proportionally long legs. One buxom figure in just a portion of the space, how do they do it? Trust Mother Nature to confuse the masses, but hey. It works for her mom. As a result of her proportions, the uniform looks somewhat exaggerated on her, seeing as miniskirts rarely look so mini on short people. Several years of donning the dreaded plaid have desensitized Chloe to the embarrassment of skirts, thankfully.

Whenever possible, Chloe goes without her uniform, preferring more casual and comfortable clothes. Jeans, khaki slacks, baggy T-shirts, not baggy T-shirts…whatever she feels like at the moment. While there’s variety in her wardrobe, it isn’t as if she mulls about it constantly. Of course, when certain she’ll be in public, Chloe always makes sure to look neat, presentable, and put-together. She is, of course, Tucker Spaulding’s daughter.
Background: The only daughter of infamously charismatic lawyer Tucker Spaulding, Chloe is what you would call “new money.” Her dad came from humble origins, and even though he’s raking in the bucks now, won’t let any of his five kids forget it. As a result, the Spaulding family often makes generous donations to whatever charities Tucker can get his hands on, especially since they can afford it. While the Spauldings are probably not as vastly wealthy as many of the families that send their children to the Altrinus Institute, they certainly aren’t at the bottom of the heap. Of course, money isn’t the reason why Chloe is the first [and therefore only] child from her family to attend Altrinus. Her four older brothers all fell just shy of entrance on the exam, and so were therefore cast off to attend other, though not terrible, schools for Haeliogen manipulation.

Even since she started attending Altrinus, Chloe has been undergoing many family changes. No, not divorce. Her father is on the rise as a lawyer, his business growing more profitable almost weekly. As a result, he’s getting more publicity, and has publicly announced that he will be running for office in the coming years. Her father has gotten Chloe’s last name to be “in the know” within Altrinus, though she herself has never been fantastically popular.
Tidbits: Loves her coffee, can snap incredibly loudly with both hands, likes watching the sky at night, is easily entertained, and gets a huge spring in her step every time she sees the moon out before the sun has set.
