Announcements & News

You hear the soft jingle of bells as you enter the Du'Ragon Bookstore. A smell of vanilla incense tickles your nostrils and you see hundreds of books piled up in random areas in a less than organized manner. You can't help but think what a strange and unkempt bookstore this is but still, something brought you here.. something pulled you towards this eccentric little shop.

You hear something muttered about wrong components and a spell gone backwards. As you per around you notice a figure standing at a counter, glaring down at a book with irritation. She smacks her hand down on the counter she's working at, and goes back to work again...

Upon closer inspection of the books you notice that they were all bound the same. Simple brown books with a black strap in front. Despite their unusual appearance you spot titles you recognize: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Lord of the Rings, Dragonlance, Legend of the Drow. In another pile you spot Alice in Wonderland, Watership Down, How Green Was My Valley, and A compliation of stories and poems by Edgar Allan Poe.

This was indeed a book store.. and such a variety at that.. but why the strange books? The lack or organization? The strange people in the back that clearly ran this bookstore? You wanted to buy a book. You needed to buy a book. The hairs on your neck stood rigid and goosebumps danced upon your flesh. This was no ordinary shop and these were no ordinary books..

Welcome to Du'Ragon's Books, where your visit may lead you on a journey into the imaginations of the mages here and new world full of potential beyond your wildest dreams.

..* Rules + FAQ

Thread Rules

01. Do not steal anything! Art theft irks me, and stealing anything else from this shop is bad. Should eb obvious what would be thieving, but taking most things is bad. Got it? Good.
02. No drama. This means no fighting, flaming, trolling, insulting, drama from other threads, etc. have a problem with the shop? PM the mule or talk to Min. Have a problem with a user? Take it to their PMs. Keep it out of my thread.
03. Play Nice and Be Respectful. Don't be a meanie and don't get cruel or obnoxious. Be on your good behavior, not your bad. Treat people nice, no matter how you feel about them.
04. Try not to use leet, sticky caps, etc. unless it's purely joking, etc. or sparing, try not to use obnoxious text. Try to use full words most of the time, and for the love of all that is... do not write constantly in these annoying writing styles. It hurts.
05. Do not harass the staff. We have lives, we have real lives that soemtiems keep us busy or causes us problems. Give us time to do our work. Don't badger us every single day. If you have a concern after a week or two, THEN ask. Don't annoy us to death about something, because it bugs us and makes us not want to do anything.
06. No Begging! No begging for pets, either other's babies, or for one form staff, etc. No trying to buy other's Du'Ragon either! Be patient!
07. Roleplay si not in thread. We have a guild for that.
08. Do not buy unless you can pay in full. No reserves, no payment plans. Period. I will not have people being in debt to this shop, and have to deal with trying to get payment from people!

More rules may be added as needed.

FAQ

01. Are these roleplay required?
No, Du'Ragon are NOT roleplay required at all. I will not hold someone to something I sometimes am bad about keeping up on. So do not feel obligated to RP. However, it gives major warm fuzzies when peopel DO RP!

02. How many can I own?
There is no limit to how many you can own, however you may only roleplay one at a time, as you become the character! Please remember this!

More added as required.

Current Staff

Mintaka :: Now the Head Mage of the shop, she was taken in when Mondo took over the shop for a short period, and was then given the position when he left for other horizons. Intelligent, but prone to mood swings and a short temper when thigns go wrong. Her skills with magic are great, and she enjoys working with everyone here.

More to come...

Previous Staff
These are people who did actual work in the shop. Nothing Yet and Maziki were also staff listed oat one point, but had no actual work done and sold.

Meeki :: Meeki was the original Head Mage, before she passed the shop to Mondo Celest. She took him and another under her wing. She was a great asset to the shop, and was paramount in the formation of it.

Mondo Celest :: Mondo was second Head Mage after Meeki, and was the reason Mintaka came into the shop to help. We have him to thank to keeping the bookstore alive.

Acknoledgements and Credits
AmyD :: Made the wonderful linearts used throughout the shop.
Meeki :: Created the concept, and made the banners and initial graphics. Many thanks to her. She also purchased the original lineart, which Mintaka is purchasing.

You are probably wondering how to get a Du'Ragon and what the process is that goes with it. So I'll try to summarize it here for you.

First, you will need to catch a flatsale book, custom spot or win an auction. The kind of pet depends on how you managed to get the book. If you win a Flatsale spot, then you can pick any book you like (or we can pick one for you). We will need a description of the book and what it's about to have an understanding of how your pet will come out. Customs get a little more freedom, they can grab a lesser character from a book and their pet can come out with attributes based on that character. The only way to get a main character is by landing a book through auction.

Once you have your book and we have an idea of what you want, we will give you your pet. The pet is an essence of you, in this new world. The book becomes a teleporter, a kind of doorway from you to get from this world to the next world. Cool, huh? But of course, in the 'new world', you'll start out as a baby and have to grow. But come on, we've always wanted to be a kid or teenager again, right? So it should be interesting.. especially in a new world! You can leave that world and come back to this one as your normal self whenever you want, just use the book! Though you can spend years in the new world, your real life self won't age. When you go back, you go back just a moment after you originally entered the world.

The cool thing is, you can buy multiple books and live the lives of as many Du'Ragon as you want. However, you can't be in two places at one time, so you can only transport yourself into the 'life' of one character at a time. You can fall in love as your Du'Ragon character, have children, buy pets and live a life of adventure! If for any reason your Du'Ragon character dies.. you will be transported back to this world to your normal form and the book will disintegrate. So no harm would ever be done to yourself. Just play it smart and try not to get your character killed though!

Oh yeah, we have to cast a spell on the book once you buy it to open up the portal. We will use a magical scroll and a spell component for this. The scroll will be your receipt or birth certificate and will let you know when you can start travelling through your book. You can choose any of the common components you want for your pet as well. A component will give you an idea of what kind of character you will have or what abilities he/she may be able to gain. Just read the descriptions and see what kind of component you would like.

We also let you choose your first familiar for free. All we require is your choice be one of the common familiars. The rarer familiars are granted through auctions, the occasional custom or can be acquired through a roleplay event. We'll see about that at a later time. I think that pretty much covers what you need to know about getting a Du'Ragon!

..* The Spellbook: Components

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

The Du'Ragon Spellbook is the most treasured item. It allows the mages/shopkeepers to bless other books along with the use of a magical scroll of enchantment and a spell component. The book then becomes a portal from this world to the next, a doorway for the pet owner to travel through.

Common Components:

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

1. Bear Claw: The bear claw grants the Du'Ragon with physical strength. Like a barbarian or beserker this boost is usually triggered by a surge of emotions.
2. Cat Claw: The cat claw grants the Du'Ragon with unbelievable grace. Du'Ragon with this compenent often become dancers, bards or thieves where balance, poise and grace are 'tools of the trade'. Why not profit from your ability in some way?
3. Dino Claw: The dino claw grants the Du'Ragon with a type of stoneskin temporarily when needed. Their skin literally becomes invincible for a short period of time. No weapon can pierce it. Using the ability can become draining though so cannot be used for long periods.
4. Canine Tooth: The canine tooth allows the Du'Ragon to run twice as fast. It's always an amazing sight when you see a Du'Ragon with a canine tooth component running at full speed. They can run so fast that they can run across small water areas such as rivers and small lakes without falling in. A more dare-devil Du'Ragon might even be able to run across a small cavern or cliff and appear to be running on air. Again, they can only do this for smaller areas. They will eventually fall or sink. XD
5. Dino Tooth: The dino tooth component allows the Du'Ragon to have strong bones. Their claws and teeth are much stronger than usual and can be used as weapons and cause twice as much damage to others or objects. They can literally bite through metal such as blades so keep those weapons away from mouths.
6. Shark Tooth: Du'Ragon are usually terrible swimmers and many have water phobia. A shark tooth component allows a Du'Ragon to get over that fear. Not only can they get over the fear but they gain a shapeshifting ability and can turn into any water based creature (fish, dolphin, seal, etc) while they are in the water.

Rare Components:

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

1. Magical Pendant: A magical pendant allows a Du'Ragon to practice magic. Witchcraft, Sorcery, and Wizardry are a few examples of trades that can be learned with the pendant component.
2. Crystal Egg: The crystal egg component allows the Du'Ragon to gain the ability to communicate with wildlife of all kinds. They can literally talk to any animal and plant and get responses from them. This is a great component for those that want to deal with animals or become a Ranger or Druid. The beautiful part is that anyone that is around this Du'Ragon can actually hear the animals and plants speak back in the Du'Ragon language as well. Once the Du'Ragon with this ability leaves the area, the animals and plants can no longer be understood or communicate.
3. Wisp Egg: The wisp egg allows the Du'Ragon to control the elements around them. If it's a foggy day, they can manipulate or move the fog. Water? Fire? A lightning storm? They can take control and manipulate any of the elements to their liking. Quite a scary possibility, eh?
4. Open Rose: The open rosed, also known as the rose of light or the love rose grants the Du'Ragon a charismatic and virtuous set of morals and abilities. They gain the ability to heal, to ward off evil spirits, and sense when evil is around. Think of clerics or paladins and you have an idea. :: Mintaka Only
5. Closed Rose: The closed rose, also known as the cursed rose, or the black rose curses the Du'Ragon into becoming an undead creature of the dark. Zombies, Death Knights and Vampires are among the possibilities. :: Mintaka Only

Normal Du'Ragon: The normal Du'Ragon are the most common. They can be good or evil based on their individual personalities and/or character attributes.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Wylde Du'Ragon: The wylde Du'Ragon prefer to live in houses and huts built in the trees. They have bridges that lead from one house to another and really, it's a beautiful sight to behold. They love the outdoors and prefer a simple life.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Angelic Du'Ragon: The angelic Du'Ragon are a kind and gentle race built around strong morals. They represent all the positive things in the world and will risk life and limb to help a friend in need. Love, Trust and Honesty are beliefs they live by.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Demonic Du'Ragon: The demonic Du'Ragon are the opposite of the angelics. They believe in causing chaos and giving other Du'Ragon a hard time. They are capable of love and romance all the same but tend to be more distrusting. They are usually selfish and value themselves above all others.

Deity: N/A

Stages

Closed Scroll: The closed scroll/parchment is your "Reciept" for the book you purchased. Think of it as a kind of birth certificate as well. It will open up to show general information about your 'pet'. When this happens, it means you can begin to travel with the use of your book and live the life of your pet. It will 'open' up at the Baby Stage.

Baby: There's not much a baby can do except play with other babies. They cannot talk.. you cannot talk in baby form. You realize who you are though and can transport back to the real world through your book whenever you want but as a baby.. you will do as a baby does. XD

Child: When you transport to the book and find that your Du'Ragon self is a child, that's when the fun can start taking place. You can run, skip, climb, jump, pick on others, talk, and do anything a kid can do. Your component starts working at this stage so feel free to roleplay your special ability as well. Your personality for your Du'Ragon self should start coming out at this stage.

Teen: Ah, the teenage years. Your personality should be in full swing and your body is starting to bloom. You start feeling things that confuse you and find you suddenly have a crush on your best friend, or the Du'Ragon over yonder. Depending on the kind of Du'Ragon you are, your alignment starts showing up as well. Are you good? Evil? It should begin to really show at the teenager stage.

Adult: You have finally grown into an adult Du'Ragon. It's a good thing you don't age in the real world when you visit the land of the Du'Ragon, huh, otherwise you'd probably be an old fart! Really, as an adult, you can get married, run for mayor, perhaps start a business, have children and other such things that only adults can do.

..* Familiars

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Common Familiars:

1. Rabbit: Some may question what a rabbit would be good for. These rabbits are extremely smart and can tell which plants are poisonous or good to eat. They are also gentle creatures that will lend their large ears if you need someone to talk to. They are very loyal as well.

2. Bird: A pet bird can give an extra set of eyes to a Du'Ragon master. They have keen hearing and sight so can spot or hear danger early on and warn thier master with a sharp shrill. They are not very loyal so need fed and cared for constantly to maintain the partnership. They can also help attack enemies with their sharp claws and beak.

3. Kitty: The common kitty is a ragamuffin indeed. Scruffy, unkempt and wild, they are everything a stray cat is.. including street smart. A common kitty knows his way around most areas and can lead their master around even in the dark due to their excellent eyesight. They are not very trusting due to their years spent on the streets, away from Du'Ragon company.

4. Elegant Kitty: The elegant kitty has been pampered and trained all her/his life. They hate being dirty and expect to be treated like royalty. They love owners that are confidant and assured, not to mention wealthy and 'worthy' of them. When they find an owner they like, they are truly loyal and will work with them when it comes to searching, hunting, or in some cases, attacking.

5. Dog: A Du'Ragon's best friend. A Dog will play with you, love you, never question you and adore you forever. He or She will hunt with you, fight with you and risk his/her life for you as well. The only problem is, they are very jealous so only like to be a Du'Ragon's only pet. They refuse to aid or become the pet of any Du'Ragon that also has a pet cat.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Rare Familiars:

1. Dragon: A Dragon pet can breath elements. This includes the following: Fire, Ice & Smoke. They can fly but not as high or well as a bird. They can only attain a height of thirty feet and will not grow more than two or so feet. They are often trained since a hatchling so will maintain loyalty to an owner if treated well.

2. Wylderbeast: A Wylderbeast is a Du'Ragon created familiar. They are not very friendly at first and tend to work with a master more out of respect than loyalty. They have a unique ability of being able to change their size. They rang from 2 feet (their main size) in height to five feet. The latter allows them to be ridden by Du'Ragon.

3. Dinosaur: A Dinosaur pet is harder to maintain due to their large carnivorous appetites. They are instinctual hunters and excellent attackers. They can taken down an enemy easily enough with the use of their many sharp teeth. Despite their small size they can run as fast as a Du'Ragon so tend to be a good pet one that is constantly on the move.. or in trouble.

4. Ferret: Some may question why a ferret is in the rare pets and not the common. That's simply because ferrets ARE rare in the land of Du'Ragon. They are usually a sign of Du'Ragon nobility. The ferrets are excellent trackers, hunters and... thieves. They have no preference and will work with other animals/pets very well.

Customs
Normal: 25k Adult
A Normal custom is a normal race Du'Ragon that allows choice fo gender and colors, and very minor editing, towards a basic theme. No characters allowed! Only common familiars allowed, but a rare component may allowed to be choices, except the roses unless given permission.

Rare: 75k Adult
A Rare custom allow for the choice fo the rare races of Wylde, Angelic, and Demonic, with gender and colors and edits like the Normal allows. No characters allowed! Rare familiars/components allowed, except the roses unless given permission.

Special: 150k
Special allows choice of race, gender, and colors - these are comissions for Minor characters from books, provided they haven't been done. A suitable component will be given for the character (basically, no mage stuff to fighters) and choice of any familiar. Please note that any character must still be cleared by Mintaka to be done before the commission can be started!

Ultra: 300k [Mintaka Only!]
These are very rare commissions slots by Mintaka for main characters - there is a catch however to this. The character in question must be a character that will not be highly popular - characters from lesser known series which likely will never be done fall into this, however, Mintaka reserves the right to deny any request if she feels the character is better suited for auction. This is an option for those who MUST have a character, but know they may never see it taken to auction. This allows for any component and any familiar.

Breeding
Price: 6k
Info: Breeding your Du'Ragon will result anywhere from one to three babies. If you have two or three, they could be identical or fraternal. Breeding is a mystery, you can't choose how your babies look.
