Welcome to the shop thread for the breedable and changing pets known as PIRATES.

PIRATES is a four stage roleplayable pet, loosely based on 17th century piracy in the caribbean area. Each character has unique custom lineart and colouring that changes from stage to stage dictated by the adventures and wishes of the owner. Every pirate can participate in a rich RP world, roleplay aboard any of our ships and fight in our unique dice based battle system.

As stated before, PIRATES is based on the 17th Century Pirates in the Caribbean. So this roleplay will be your general pirate setting with docks, towns, islands and Arrr the seven seas! Obviously it will be expanded a bit more then that with much more detail, also some researched input would be greatly appreciated and rewarded.

We're not too strict about how true to life you are, just please try to keep it generally in character - don't use your shiny new nokia 2680 to call the Captain and let him know he has a new email.

This is an example pet Katherine Kruel. No other PIRATE will look exactly like this one. Writing in italics shows what a potential customer's order forms for each 'promotion' will be like and how it will affect the outcome of the PIRATE.

Stage one: Ship's Boy

I'd like a female pirate, brown eyes and hair, could you possibly make it curly? A bandana would be cool too.

Katherine bought her first sword, so could that please be in the picture? Her hair is longer now but I'd like to keep the bandana. She got her ear pierced a week ago with a single gold hoop and her friend gave her a shell necklace that I'd like her to be wearing too.

Her hair is longer now but tied back. Can you make her clothes a bit more fancy? She's also taken to wearing a money pouch and her sword on chain attached to her belt. She got a special necklace from a dying beggarwoman in the last town we sacked, and she has worn it ever since. She also lost a piece of her ear in a fight with another crewman.

note: Not every PIRATE will achieve this final stage. It is reserved for those who show special talent and effort in roleplay.

Katherine is very rich now so I'd like that to show in her new outfit, could you give her a sort of coat that's more like a dress? I want her to be more feminine, maybe change her hair a bit. She also bought a blue and green parrot as an officer and lost an eye in battle.

User Image Roleplay is an important but not necessary part of owning a PIRATE. In order to grow or be 'promoted', a PIRATE must be roleplayed reasonably well and to the extent that a captain or officer recognizes the effort and nominates the pet for promotion. To put it most simply, if you do not roleplay, your pet will not grow. If you roleplay infrequently or very poorly, your pet will grow slowly.


Role Play Rules
1. Please try to use proper grammar and spelling in all of your posts. A little accent is acceptable, but try to keep it understandable.
2. Respect other owners and their characters. We expect a certain amount of treachery and scandal, but unjustified attacks either physical or verbal will not be tolerated.
3. Anything goes, as long as it's within the TOS, is reasonable and logical. If you can come up with a satisfactory explanation for it, you can sprout wings and fly your ship around. Be aware that the judging of this is up to the staff, and we are very skeptical. If you aren't sure about something, just ask.

Race Relations

While all races have always coexisted relatively peacefully, in recent years the slower breeding rate of non-humans has contributed to a world dominated by the "normal" race of Humans.

Humanity has always reacted negatively to the unknown, so when Merfolk and Elves became scarce, so too did friendly attitudes towards them. Some taverns refused to serve them at first, then they were snubbed in the streets, there are even now rumours of witch burning for anyone looking like "one of them oddities".

Their superior abilities are their only advantage now in a world turned against them, and even those only help to inflame racial hatred even further. Being a non-human is not easy, so please, if you have the misfortune to be roleplaying one take into account the probably negative attitudes of your Human crewmates.

Humans; please, let's not have everyone trying to be the pirate Rosa Parks. Tolerance is possible but not probable for a Human pirate. Try to treat anyone who looks non-human with some sort of suspicion at the least.

PIRATES does not support racism in any way, shape or form. Our hope is that by experiencing discrimination firsthand, even in simulated form, we can all learn to stop the darker side of human nature.

Ranks, Positions & Promotion

User ImagePIRATES will have three growth stages, with an optional fourth for outstanding roleplay. These stages are detailed below. Each stage outranks the one below it, which is how the order of command may be roleplayed. i.e, a captain may give orders to anyone on his or her ship, officers may give orders to other officers of lower Position plus seamen and ships boys, seamen may give orders to other seamen of lower Position and ships boys are just buggered all around.

In addition to rank by stage, there is rank by Crew Position. If you choose to rp your pet, you will have to choose or be given a job aboard whichever ship accepts you - according to your stage and preferences. Positions help to define your part of shipboard life and hopefully give you something interesting to rp. Positions can only be changed by the captain or upper officers via petition. Possible Positions are as follows.

Every PIRATE must be a part of a crew aboard a named ship. The only time you may not be so is between ships (if you are marooned or shipwrecked), or if you are still choosing ships, this must not be for any extended length of time. This is to ensure a strong community, please don't try to solo.

A ship may only have one acting captain at a time. If you have recently been promoted to that rank, you may wait aboard your current ship until such a time as you can afford a ship of your own, or you may wait in port.

Crew interaction is highly encouraged - a ship is only as strong as the sailors that man it.

User ImageBeing pirates, obviously there has to be some sort of prize worth marauding for. To this end we are introducing a monetary system (yes i know, fake money within a fake money game. ROFFLECAKES).

Due to the complexity of evaluating actual goods you might loot from a captured ship, you will simply be given a total of dubloons as the worth of the booty by the rp manager, to be distributed amongst the crew as the quartermaster sees fit.

What can you do with this fake fake money? Why, buy new trinkets for your PIRATE of course! If you take your money to the merchant port below, you can trade it in for objects you would like your pet to possess, which may eventually be included in your next promotion image.

Corruption & Customs

We are not saying that it is possible to purchase PIRATES dubloons with gaia gold, but we're not saying it isnt either. pirate

Customs are: OPEN!

The staff of PIRATES, being the very essence of piracy, are very open to bribes of any sort. If you would like to secure a slot when none appear to be open, a bribe is the way to go. PM the mule with any questions about customs.

Customs start at 200k for a custom human, Elves are 300k, Merfolk are 350k and Dragon-kin are 600k. Do not complain about these prices, we are trying to keep the rare species rare.

Cursed customs are available for 500k for a limited time only

Once your pirate has reached able seaman stage, the option of spawning more devious scallywags becomes open to you.


Breeding Rules:

  • You may not have a child without both parents consent
  • Any seaman of any gender can become pregnant, same sex couples are more than possible with the use of magical aids.
  • It is much harder for non-humans to get pregnant. Humans may breed as many times as they like and as frequently as they like, but the same is not true for elves, merfolk and dragon-kin. Childbirth may in fact kill or permanently injure some races.
  • You may keep children or give them to someone else, you may not sell them. If you neglect your child, it will be taken from you and placed in foster care.
  • Which parent gets to 'own' the child is entirely up to you, but we suggest you decide before it's born. Joint ownership is possible, but squabbling over rp rights will get the child rehomed.


Stages

Breeding involves the addition of several new stages to your pirate child's growth. Depending on how much you roleplay this can be anywhere from three to five new stages. They are as follows:

Pregnancy - An image of the expectant parent(s).

Newborn - New child either in the arms of the parent(s) or alone.

Toddler - Finally walking, and started talking. Likes to adventure a little now.

Child - Likes to adventure a lot more. Now able to start working a little.

Teen - Welcome to the awkward years, if you're living on a ship, it's time to work hard!

Prices

Breeding prices start at 100k. This is negotiable if you plan to RP intensely. Parents may be added to images at 5k per image.

Genetics

PIRATES Genetics is slighty different than Real Genetics, there are no 1/16ths or 1/4ths, only Halflings, and Full Bloods. Genetics Info goes as:

Humans can breed with any PIRATES Race. Mutated/Cursed Humans are still considered Humans (Mutations will not be passed down, but curses may start to show at the Teen stage.)

Human + Elf = Elf Halfling
Human + Merfolk = Merfolk Halfling
Human + Dragonkin = Dragonkin Halfling

Elves:

Elves can breed with either Humans, or fellow Elves

Elf + Elf = Elf
Elf + Human = Elf Halfling

Merfolk:

Much like Elves, Merfolk can breed with either Humans or fellow Merfolk.

Merfolk + Merfolk = Merfolk
Merfolk + Human = Merfolk Halfling

Dragonkin:

Much like Elves and Merfolk, Dragonkin can breed with either Humans, or fellow Dragonkin.


Dragonkin + Dragonkin = Dragonkin
Dragonkin + Dragonkin = Dragonkin Halfling

Halflings:

Halflings can breed with the race that either of their parents are. When a Halfling breeds, their offspring will lose the traits of the other Race.

Q: Can I have a Pirate?
A: Certainly, if you can afford an auction or bribe. Gifts are made only to staff and valued friends. Trades are possible, just pm the mule.

Q: Do we HAVE to roleplay these pets?
A: No. But if you don't your pet will not grow. Please see the ROLEPLAY section.

Q: How do I make my pirate grow?
A: You can't. It's entirely up to the staff, based on your behaviour and roleplay efforts.

Q: Can we be [insert famous pirate here]?
A: Of course. But you will start off just like everyone else and have to earn your reputation.

Q: How do I get my own ship?
A: You must achieve the stage of captain while on another ship, then gather enough money to purchase your own ship from the merchant post. To sail your ship you must have at least a first mate, which you can select from the available crew of your current ship.

Q: Who is JohnnyBones?
A: Shop mule. Billy Bones, the infamous treasure island character, was taken. About 90% of the posts by Johnny were by Amsterdam when she was too lazy to switch accounts. However, since ownership of the shop has changed, 90% of posts since will be by Darkness Angel Kogoro.

Q: Can I have magical ring/necklace/object?
A: Yes, but it must be approved by staff or purchased through the merchant post.

Q: Can I be a werewolf/vampire/demon/angel?
A: Not to start out with, unless you are already one of the non-human species. Every human PIRATE begins as a normal human being, but mutation and magical afflictions can be aquired through vigorous roleplay. This MUST be approved by staff.

Q: Why are pirates so expensive?
A: Because of the amount of effort put into each one. Every pirate has unique lineart and colours, not to mention the changing stages.

Q: Can I own more than one pirate?
A: You may own as many pirates as you like. pirate

Q: Will my pirate ever be taken away from me?
A: Only in circumstances of extreme abuse will a pirate be taken away from its owner, such as rule breaking or plain old trolling. If you no longer want your pirate, you may pm the mule about a rehoming auction or rp contest, depending on your wishes. You will not receive any profit from rehoming.

Q: I own a pirate and I have been sent a Friends List Request from JohnnyBones, what should I do?
A: Accept the request, these are being sent out for a very important reason that you will learn about when the time comes pirate

Q: I own a Captain, are there any requirements to keep it's rank?
A: Yes, we do ask that you roleplay the pirate actively. However, we do understand that there may be snags in keeping you from roleplaying as much as a Captain should. As long as the Captain doesn't ignore their crew, you have nothing to worry about!
