Welcome to the preservation facilities. This is where all research and care of the usasika takes place. These creatures, the usasika, are occaisionally adopted out to owners interested in caring for them and helping us further our research.

This facility is run by our dedicated staff of researchers and caretakers; Rime Dragona, Xennik Diagin, and Rae Silver.

A small wooden sign that's been forcefully driven into the ground is the only indication of a shop far on the outskirts of Barton. It reads 'Usasika Preserve, 1/2 Mile'. A narrow, almost nonexistant dirt path leads from the main road into what appears to be a large clump of trees in the distance. Beyond the trees, and cleverly concealed from view, is a large manor. A brick wall surrounds it, but the wrought iron fence is opened wide and and invitingly.

The surrounding gardens are ill kept, though the large manor itself seems to be in good order. The tangled mass of delicate plants and beautiful trees desperately need to be weeded, and the stone paths that lead deeper into the gardens are slightly overgrown. Tangled vines have taken their toll on the many statues and fountains scattered about the area. The tinkle of windwhimes can be heard faintly throughout the gardens, along with the burble of the small brook that weaves its way among the trees.

Here and there amongst the untamed plants, small creatures are moving about. There's only brief glimpses of them every now and then as they nibble contentedly at the grass. They don't even seem aware of their visitors until one moves to close, at which they all scatter. With a few faint rustles of the underbrush, everyone of them are gone from sight, and, seemingly, existance.

But one cautious creature still remains, poking a tiny head from beneath a lilac bush. It seems to be a rabbit.

A purple rabbit.

Background Information
What is a usasika, you ask?

Growth

**This Diagram is represetative of a normal male Usasika. The lineart is different for female usasika and usasika of other breeds.

The Newborn
Like most animals, your usasika will start off as a wrinkly ball of helplessness. They are born live, and will still require nursing at this age. They must be kept warm. The best way to care for the usasika at this stage is to leave it with its birth mother until its eyes open...

The Infant
After about a week of nursing and growing, your usasika will finally grow a fine coat and open its eyes. Usasika eyes are similar to that of a deer; large and a soft brownish-black. Infants can move around a little, but they'll most likely continue to huddle next to anything warm. Usasika infants have distinct spotted patterns on their backs. These designs were probably once meant as camoflouge, but decades of selective breeding has encourgaed a large variety of colors in the usasika, and now the spots are rather pointless. These spots will fade in time. Their antlers are visible, but only appear as dark, hard spots on their heads.

The Fawn
Your usasika will start growing like a weed if properly taken care of. By this point, its spots shold have faded and, depending on your usasika's type (more on this in the next post), more intricate fur patterns will replace them. Fawns are quite a deal more active thatn infants and newborns, and they can easily outrun a human. They'll enjoy an occaisional romp with other fawns for exercise. At this age, their antlers will have grown into short knobs.

Adult (Buck/Doe)
After a final growth spurt, your usasika will finally be at its full size. At adulthood, Usasika antlers have fully grown out with about three tines, and they can defend themselves now. > wink Fighting between usasika, however is rare (even between males) because these bunnies don't use their antlers in battle. They prefer to show them off, especially to members of the opposite gender. Usasika are able to breed at this stage.

Domestic
The normal Usasika are known as domestic. They grow through three stages, and their antlers usually have less than four points. More information can be found in the post above.

Wild
These Usasika are quite deifferent from the domestic breed. They tend to be more natural colors, and they may bite. Their antlers grow to have more than three tines, and longer than any other breed's antlers. Also, they drop their antlers in the fall and regrow them every year...

Pygmy
Usasika that are described as 'Pygmy' are simply smaller as adults than other Usasika. Their proportions are like those of child* Usasika, and they may even be as small as a human adult's hand. whee
*This means that Pygmy Usasika are any type of Usasika that don't grow past their child stage. Pygmies may be domestic, wild, horned, or lop-eared. They only have three stages (with the exception of Lestat and Devilauna), and the child lineart of whatever type they may be (domestic, wild, horned, or lop-eared) serves as the adult lineart.

Horned
Usasika that fall under the 'horned' category have horns growing from their skulls instead of antlers. The horns can be very long or quite short, based on the exact type. Horns are not shed, and if they are ever broken they have to stay that way.

Lop-eared
Usasika with long, floppy ears are known as lop-eared. They are generally domestic, and this special trait can only be accquired genetically.

So, are you interested in owning one of these fuzzy, cuddly creatures? Of course you are! Basically, there are four ways you can get ahold of your very own Usasika:


Flatsales
First, you can purchase them in a flatsale. Flatsale Usasika cost 2,500 gold (this may change). At the time of the flatsale, you must wait until I post the word "Go!" in large letters. As quickly as you can, post in THIS thread, and politely ask for the Usasika of your choice. Flatsale Usasika are usually not customizeable, but rules may vary from flatsale to flatsale.

Auctions
Another way to get a Usasika is through an auction. Auction Usasika have no price cap. All Usasika that are auctioned will be quite different from the normal Usasika, as they may have lineart edits, additional stages, pre-chosen pelt designs, added quirks, twins(!), and more! You will usually get a sneak peek at what the Usasika will look like when it gets a little older.

Gifts
In rare cases, I may simply give you a Usasika! Who I give them to is completely my decision. If I think you're being a great bumper/stalker, you've helped me a lot, or are just a neat person, you may receive your own semi-custom Usasika! This however, is very rare, and I most likely won't give Usasika as gifts to people who already own a Usasika.

Custom
After being asked many times, I've decided to devote a section to the buying of custom Usasika. For now, I will do a FULLY CUSTOM Usasika in exchange for a Nitemare Headband. You get to choose the colors, patterns, gender, and breed for you Usasika, and you can also request lineart edits like wings or longer tails.

Cost: 500 gold
Do you like your usasika's markings, but hate the color? This pill changes the color, but not the design, of your usasika's coat. The owner may decide which color to use. This can only be used a maximum of two times and cannot be undone.

This injection prompts your usasika to grow a completely new coat. The owner has no say in what the new coat will look like. It can be administered a maximum of two times and cannot be undone.

This bottle of fresh usasika milk can be administered to a newborn. It will help your newborn grow its warm, protective coat immediately and even help it bulk up and open its eyes. (In other words, you can make your usasika grow from a newborn to an infant immediately.)

After more pokes with the sewing needle than I care to remember, I managed to make a set of usasika plushies! These are merely for decoration in sigs and such and are NOT REAL USASIKA. Currently available colors are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white, black and brown.

Perhaps the greatest reason contributing to the dwindling of the usasika species is the meticulous rules by which they breed. They will only breed during lunar eclipses, meteor showers, blue moons and electrical storms. On top of these specific breeding habits, usasika are not as notorious for producing offspring as their rabbit cousins are...they can only produce up to two fawns per breeding.
Also, because this is a carefully monitored project, usasika are only allowed to breed twice. (A special permit can be bought for a third breeding; look in the merchandise post under the 'full moon charm' for more details.) Usasika do not have to breed with the same mate each time.

Breeding costs 5,000 gold; 2.5K from each owner. You're guaranteed to have two fawns from every breeding.

After choosing a mate, the two usasika will be released into a special green-house-like facility. It was specially designed to be able to imitate real electrical storms, which, as mentioned before, is one of the few circumstances under which usasika will breed.

Once mating takes place, the female must be especially well taken care of. Don't pick her up and carry her around too much; in fact, you might want to leave her at the shop to be properly looked after. In about a week, she'll give birth two two little usasika. Their genders will be random.

Tags

As with most Breedable pets, when Usasika are adopted they are placed on a certificate of ownership, or tag. Below is an example* of the tags used for the Usasika.

1. The moon in the upper left corner signifies what stage the usasika is at. A black (or new) moon indicates a newborn, a crescent moon indicates an infant, a half moon indicates a fawn, and a full moon indicates an Adult. If the usasika has a red moon on its tag, it is no longer able to breed.

2. This is where your usasika's picture goes!

3. This is where the name of the creator and colorist of your usasika will be written.

4. The name of your usasika will be put here.

5. This is where the owner's name goes.

6. Your usasika's type will be written here.

7. Finally, if your usasika is a special edition, that will be written in this area.

A. Fortunately, no. ^^; You went through the trouble of getting the pet in the first place, after all; I'm not about to let your usasika kick the bucket on you.

Xennik Diagin and his adopted son, Vael, live with Xennik's elder cousin, Charles (Charlie) Carrey, and Charlie's wife, Victoria Carrey in Gambino, Gaia. Xennik is 24 years old, average height, with black hair and a blue eye. Due to a disease, he lost the use of his left arm completely, and due to a rockslide (this guy's got some incredible luck, huh?) 3 years ago, his left leg and eye were replaced by fakes.
