PLOT



Your heart beats only with their permission.

Everything changed on The Day.

The day the windows shattered.
The day the power stopped.
The day a billion people dropped dead.
The day Earth lost a war it didn't know it was fighting.

"The Lords didn’t come here from the heavens to save us. They came from some faraway solar system to colonize our planet, on The Day. We don’t know what they look like inside their ships, but they’re not angels.

Nobody calls them alien anymore, because they aren’t. They’re familiar. We never see them, but we’ve never known a world without them... I grew up thinking they were angels because back on The Day they sent my parents to heaven."

Four Icon children, Dol, Ro, Lucas, and Tima, have destroyed the Icon in Los Angeles that had threatened citizens with instant death if they did not obey every command from the Lords. However, though they have freed the Los Angeles people from being forever enslaved by the Lords, other cities also live in the shadow of the looming threat that are the Icons, promising to permanently end citizens who do not abide by the laws. These cities include London, Paris, Moscow, Shanghai, Tokyo, as well as several other cities in the northeast.

With the obliteration of one of their Icons, previously thought to be indestructible by humans, the Lords grew enraged. Their rule around the remaining cities tightened, and the living conditions worsened. More and more people are being shipped off to Projects, forced to work the remainder of their lives constructing things for the Lords.

Our story takes place in London. As the harsh rule of the Lords forces the people into desperation, the citizens of the city cry out for the help from their city's own Icon children. Rebellions spring. It's a race between the city's Embassy between the humans and the Lords and the rebels to find these Icon children, and use them.

Icon children.

Children whose brains' limbic systems have been altered, allowing them to fully unleash the powers of human emotion.

The only humans able to withstand the heart-stopping power of the Icons.

There are five within the city of London.

Five Icon children, each with an immense capacity to feel and control one emotion.

What happens to them? Does the Embassy get to them first, or the rebellion? Do they meet each other and decide to work together to destroy London's Icon, or do some of the Icon children decide they don't want that responsibility piled onto their shoulders?

RULES



BASICS
Come on guys, use your common sense. Follow the Gaia ToS so no one gets in trouble. Keep things PG-13 please, if clothes come off, do a time skip. You are allowed to swear, I mean let's face it these people are going through hell while they're in the iron clutches of the Lords an occasional "********!" or two is going to come out of their mouths. Just don't swear every other word, we all need to read these posts and a post full of swearing isn't always the most fun to read. If there's fighting, no auto-hitting. Discuss the outcomes of the fight in the ooc, so the roleplay can progress smoothly. And no god-modding, please. My character is mine, someone else's character is theirs, please do not control our characters for us. If you wish to do that, write a story or something, then you can have full control of all the characters. Follow all the rules in this post, so there won't be too many issues within the roleplay.

POSTING
I'm a big believer in quality over quantity, plus this is a lazy lit./lit. break roleplay, so I'm only going to ask for 250+ words per post. That's not a whole lot, so I'm expecting that minimum word limit to be reached at all times. It's just there so everyone has at least something to work with. I'm also expecting you all to please be literate. Proper spelling and grammar are absolutely required. I will ask for samples, and I will read them. If I do not like your samples or your writing, I have the right to reject you. As for how often you have to post, please post at least once a week. If you for some reason cannot do this, please let everyone know in the ooc so we're not waiting for a post that'll never come. For posting layouts, please make them look nice. Don't clutter them with like, ten lines of coding and five bajillion icons. If you're not great with layouts, a simple name and picture will do. And please, please, please, do not use low quality and/or blurry pictures. Also, do not center your text, use the [|list|] function instead. Use either size 10 or 11 font, and please write in either black or a darker shade of gray. Of course, your character's thoughts, dialogue, and interactions can be in other colors, just keep the rest of the main body of text either black or dark gray. I just don't want to be reading posts and posts of lime green text, and believe me, it's happened before. If there is something about your posting layout that really irritates me, I have the right to ask you to change it. If you're really stuck, you may ask me for a simple layout. What I make for you won't be anything fancy, just a picture of your character with your character's name.

CHARACTERS
This should go without saying, but no Mary Sues or Gary Stus. Please create interesting and dynamic characters with flaws and strengths. That being said, don't make your character so flawed they can't do anything right. I'm sorry but they just don't really contribute to roleplays. As for character ages, the Icon children should be from fifteen to nineteen years old. I'm going to stray out of canon a little and say they don't have to be the same age, but they should be in that age range. Everyone else can be whatever age you want them to be, like you'd commonly see in a city. You can take as many characters as you want, but everyone is limited to only one Icon child. I mean come on guys, there's only five of them. Be fair. For face claims, I can be a little picky. Please do not use anyone overused, any scene models (I genuinely hope this is not still an issue), or use any really well-known celebrities. If you're not sure about your face claim, run it by me. I promise I'm actually nice. Also, your face claim should look your character's age. Do not use a forty year old to play a teenager (I've seen it happen, believe me), and vice versa. I have the right to ask you to change face claims if I do not like yours.

APPLYING
All the various codes for this roleplay can be found here. To apply, please post the background check in the ooc. If that is accepted, you may start on the reserve and post that in the ooc as well once you're done with it. If that is also accepted, create a new topic and start working on your character's profile. If you apply for an Icon child spot, on the reserve it will ask for a Latin name. Simply search for the Latin for your Icon child's emotion, or even something related to your Icon child's emotion, here, find a word with a genitive form, and put the word "icon" before it. Your Icon child's full name should also be somewhat related to their Latin name. For example, in the book, "icon doloris"'s name is Doloria. I'm not going to be too strict with the names though. Take one of my characters for example; "icon quietis"'s name is Quintessa. As long as it's somewhat related, it's alright.

ICON CHILDREN


These children each have the capacity to feel and control one emotion. They have abilities based off of their emotion, and their intense emotions comes from the fact that the limbic system of their brains has been altered. They are the only ones able to withstand the power of the Icons. The Embassy wants them to experiment on and keep confined, as well as potentially use them to stop the Rebellion, while the Rebellion wants to use them to stop the Embassy and destroy London's Icon.

EMBASSY


The Embassy is the bridge between the Lords and the humans. They are like the government of this world, except they're just as much slaves as everyone else, being the puppets of the Lords. However, the people of the Embassy enjoy their position of power and the comfort in knowing they are guaranteed a good life and won't be shipped off to the Projects. They're not particularly fond of the idea of fighting the Lords and potentially losing their lives. Their main goal is to experiment on the Icon children, keep them confined, and potentially use them to stop the Rebellion. Roles in the Embassy include: the Ambassador, soldiers, scientists, and pretty much anything else you'd see fit in this setting.

REBELLION


The Rebellion is comprised of citizens who've just had enough. Being enslaved by the Lords and the Embassy their entire lives isn't exactly what they want, and they're prepared to fight back. However, as normal human beings, they don't have the power themselves to destroy London's Icon, so they seek out the Icon children. Icon children apart, they do try to infiltrate the Embassy and help plan out potential plans of attack for the Icon children when they finally get to them, and things of that nature. In the Rebellion, everyone is seen as equals and uses their strengths to aid the cause. Well, except for the leader. The leader is mostly there as a guide though, so that they don't wreak havoc, and therefore isn't seen as all that much more powerful than everyone else. The Rebellion is family, and the leader is the parental figure.
