The Terrwyns seemed to be the perfect family. They had everything; two beautiful, intelligent, well-
behaved children attending VOCA, incredible sums of money, jobs other people could only dream
of, a luxurious house in California by the beach, and a gorgeous Border Collie named Bailey. Their
very presence elicited jealousy in others, but no one could hate them because they were so nice
too. Many charities received large monthly checks from the Terrwyns, the children often volunteered
in their community (whether it be at the animal shelter or cleaning up garbage at the beach), and
the entire family always greeted people with kindness and smiles.

Mr. and Mrs. Terrwyn were both in the film industry. While Mr. Terrwyn worked for Legendary
Pictures, Mrs. Terrwyn was an independent producer who helped produce several very successful
low-budget indie films. They made a lot of money between the two of them while doing what they
love, but due to how busy they both were and the fact that they both worked until relatively late in
the evening, their kids had to be relatively independent from a young age. Mr. and Mrs. Terrwyn
cared deeply about their children but were simply too busy with work to always be there for them,
their kids understood this and did not feel like they were neglected or unloved, but rather, they took
it as a lesson for the future when they wouldn't have their parents around instead.

Growing up with all this money and slightly guilty parents who were not always home, the Terrwyn
children were showered with whatever material needs they wanted, whenever they wanted it. They
were spoiled rotten, though Val was never one to constantly brag about and flaunt her wealth, as
she never wanted to appear spoiled after encountering some of the children of her parents' friends.
These other spoiled children seemed annoying and obnoxious to Val, and neither of these traits
were traits she wished to have.

All this is purely on the surface. Below the surface nothing too bad occurred, but the Terrwyns
weren't as "perfect" as everyone imagined.

Mr. and Mrs. Terrwyn would get into constant fights and say horrible things to each other nearly
every moment of every day. It seemed like any moment one of the two would file for a divorce.
Sure, they both loved their children, their house, their dog, and in general, the life they led, but they
were getting on each other's nerves more and more. On top of this, they were both quite judgmental
of "fat" people who "don't try hard enough to lose weight", poor people who "think they can mix in
with the rich" (though they don't judge poor people who "know their place"), and other things of the
like. Stereotypes were definitely a big thing with their judgements (they were the type of people who
believed that every gay couple must have a "female" and "male", and one time when Val tried to
explain that this was not necessarily the case they completely ignored what she said).

Val's sibling mostly kept to themself, not talking or interacting with other kids too much.

Val herself tried extremely hard to be her own person, and not just a Terrwyn kid. She didn't want to
just be that rich kid that's part of that rich family, she wanted to be Val. Sick of the "perfect daughter"
facade she constantly put on, Val also strived to always speak her mind. Her parents constantly
passed judgement on everything, and Val aimed to not be like them or let them get to her, but
unfortunately they did to an extent. Sometime during her early teenage years, Val became extremely
worried, no, obsessed about her weight and appearance. In constant worry that something was
wrong with the way she looked, in constant worry that she was "fat"; that's how Val's lived her life
since then. Always on a diet, always eating healthy, always cutting carbs entirely out of her meals,
and never eating too much is how Val spent her mealtimes. She's underweight, but the number on
the scale never seemed satisfying. Her sibling knew about this, and since they're concerned about
her health always encouraged Val to eat more and maybe splurge a little on the carbs. Occasionally,
she caved and listened to their advice.

In a way, attending VOCA was an escape from her family life and a chance to be herself. Val's been
going to VOCA since she started school, and although she recognizes that the school has it's own
problems (snobbish, arrogant kids for example), she loves it and thinks of it as her home. Not being
part of the Fab 5 is also 100% a-okay with Val, in fact, she prefers it this way. Flaunting money's not
her thing. As for the arrival of Essies and Acers? Val's totally fine with it, though her parents
obviously aren't and they say earfuls upon earfuls about how they're ruining VOCA.
