Welcome to Gaia! ::

This is the thread for Samael Darius Blanc.
Dnp.
Name -- Samael Darius Blanc
Age -- 17 – 26
Race -- Mermaid
Birthdate -- May tenth
Appearance -- Pale blonde hair and narrow electric blue eyes. Rather fair, almost sickly pale skintone. A decent amount of muscle tone, but nothing insane. Long, dusky blue tail. Bags under his eyes, because he doesn't sleep enough. In his human form, he is roughly 5'11.
Personality -- Spoiled and sulky. Has a soft spot for candy. As soon as he's pinned he gives up. Throws tantrums alot. Moody. He absolutely loathes it when he doesn't get what he wants. Finds humans incredibly entertaining. Resentful. Jealous. Proud and arrogant sometimes. Tends to think of himself before other people.
Normally Wears -- Whatever he can find. Nothing as a mermaid; he dresses when he gets on land, typically in things he managed to swipe from beachgoers. Never wears shoes. Pierced ears, and loves jewelry and anything else 'pretty' he can get his hands on. His clothes rarely match, because it's not like he has many options on what he can steal.
Sign -- Taurus

User Image Really, Samael was a fan of storms. When he didn’t do anything stupid, they were really quite fun. He could not drown if he tried, nor could he suffocate out in the air. The only dumbass thing he could do would be what he just did, or possibly get tangled in a fishing net, and in theory he could escape that.

Nah, the water didn’t hurt him. And even if it did, he had other concerns more important than some salt. The ocean’s water didn’t bother him at all; he lived in it all the time.

The choppy waves rocked the ships tethered to the dock, dark clouds in the sky. The thunder rumbled threateningly, foreshadowing a nasty storm, which had, of course, already been predicted by weather stations and such. Which meant no one was out on the sea, despite the area being popular with fishermen and tourists alike. On a day like this, few people wanted to be out. It simply wasn’t safe for them.

Even the creatures in the ocean were going deep, where the tossing water wouldn’t be such a hassle. It was a danger to them, though not quite as frightening as it was to the humans. If they were too close to the shore, they could get beached. Or they could be tossed onto rocks, which was really rather painful, and could cause quite a bit of physical harm to the poor creature suffering nature’s wrath. And it was simply exhausting to try to fight the waves.

So it made very little sense for any of them to be breaching the water, playing on the surface, especially as the storm was getting worse very rapidly.

But that’s what Samael was doing, bobbing on the waves, only chest-up, watching the sky with some amount of interest. Not only was he above the water, he was also close to the shore; closer than he would dare on a sunny day, when the men milled about the sand and docks.

The blue-eyed blonde was completely unaffected by the salt water that splashed into his mouth and eyes, waiting for a big wave to roll towards him. That’s why he was up top during such foul weather; it was rather enjoyable to bodysurf, and it was even more so during a storm. So long as you didn’t get too close to the shore, it was perfectly safe, as well. And he had long since identified where the dangerous rocks were in the area – he did this quite often, almost every time there was a storm or reason for the humans to leave him alone – so he was pretty sure he would be fine.

The pearls he had threaded in his hair had a dull gleam in the dim lighting, his light blue tail almost invisible beneath the currently dark sea. He could feel the wind picking up, blowing on his wet skin, and the thunder grumbled louder, warning him.

The waves were getting bigger, more violent, as the ocean got angrier, and they carried the Mer up and down, though eventually he hardly even went down anymore, dropped a few inches abruptly to be picked up again by another. He was fairly okay with it, though, as the rain started the drip down from the Heavens.

Lightning cracked the sky, thunder crashing, while a rather large wave stole Samael away from the others. The wind was briefly knocked out of him when he was abandoned in midair and he hit the water hard. Water might not seem like it could be solid, but when you hit it from a good height at a flat angle, it was solid enough. Another wave snatched him up, and he flipped his tail, though he was somewhat disoriented, trying to make it so he was at least at a semi-controlled position.

Normally he was much better at his surfing. However, once you were surprised by one wave, it was hard to get back in the rhythm. They just kept hitting you. Yes, in theory, he could go further under, get his breath back, and mouthfuls of sudden salt water didn’t hurt him like it hurt humans. But it wasn’t pleasant to be just about punched by a wave, knocked around like a rag doll above the water, where he wasn’t ever at his best.

It was poor luck on his part that the first large wave had caught him so off guard; it had been his landing. His belly-smacker of a landing, which had sounded good at the time, but in retrospect was a poor idea. He had predicted that another wave would catch him before he fell that entire distance, and his assumption had been off a tad bit. His educated guess was wrong.

Struggling to straighten himself out, Samael didn’t even notice how dangerously close he was to the shore. Which wasn’t such a huge problem; Mer didn’t get beached. He wasn’t going to get stuck on shore. But hitting the sand would hurt, much more than if he hit water. He wouldn’t even need to hit dry sand; just being in the shallow water was dangerous enough for him.

…the shallow water was what did it to him, actually. The sea came crashing down on it, dragging him with it, and he went through thin water, drawn thinner by the wave, hitting the earth beneath it. There were a few more panicked seconds – not of drowning, just general confusion – and he, little to say, fainted.

His very unconscious body drifted onto the sand, the waves still kissing at his tail and waist, blood leaking from a nostril and his lower lip.

The only consolation was that it was a nasty day, and he would probably wake up before anyone dangerous found him.

Samael normally wasn’t allowed out when humans were around; usually the younger males stayed further under, only rising if they were needed. However, they’d recently decided that the younger Mer needed to learn how to deal with the humans. Perhaps the best thing would be to dive down to the deepest depths of the ocean, but humans would no doubt find a way to follow them down there.

Mer were rather sexist in the way they didn’t let their women even see humans. Mostly because there were so few of the women; to every three males, there was a female. And the females were beautiful; all of them. Absolutely breathtaking to look at. Which made them all the more appealing for humans, more valuable. Oh, the Mermen were handsome; they had gorgeous colors and were very visually appealing. And they weren’t common, of course. Humans far outnumbered them. But mermaids were prized.

And, of course, if humans kept hunting them, the Mer would die out. It was a simple fact. They hunted both genders, but they always went after the females more stubbornly than the males. And if they kept that up…actually, the hunting in general up, the Mer were going to die off. At least the pure ones. There were quite a few humans with the taint of Mer in their bloodline.

The blonde male held a knife as his weapon; he was more of a distraction than anything else. That’s what they were; they were luring the fishing boats off so the women and children could get out to open sea. It was much safer there; they’d actually thought they’d been far enough out, and had been living in the abandoned hull of a shipwreck, but evidently not the case. But the humans couldn’t follow them forever, right? They had to just…give up eventually and leave them alone.

There had to be a safe place for the Mer somewhere, even if it was hiding amongst the humans.

Mer had rather primitive weaponry, especially compared to the humans. They had guns, while his people had spears and blades. Granted, they could hurl them with quite some force. But they were still spears instead of bullets. It wasn’t a fair fight at all, though humans did tend to try to avoid killing Mer. Usually they used ammunition that would stun rather than slaughter.

Obviously they were valuable merchandise. They couldn’t kill them. That would be wasting a rather large amount of cash.

But what they did was much worse than death; they would basically sell them to wealthy people, or amusement parks, to be put in water filled tubs for the humans’ amusement. They’d long since learned to keep a high fence around the exhibits and cages, to make sure once they dried out they didn’t just jump the wall and run.

The Mer would eventually grow ill and die in their cages, usually within a year or so, meaning they would have to find new ones to replace the beautiful creature they just destroyed. They weren’t meant to be locked up; it wasn’t good for them. They would despair and die; it was a simple enough concept. They were very much sentient; just as intelligent as a human. They could feel everything the same. Humans were just dumb.

Really, really dumb. It was a wonder they could even speak to one another.

Samael rather missed when the humans still thought they were a myth; it had been so much safer and calmer, in their day-to-day lives. And then a stupid Mer decided it would be a great idea to try to contact the humans, make friends with them. They were intelligent creatures by design; they would be great allies.

Though he didn’t take into account how damn violent they all were. Humans had always been psychotic, even in the old days, when they had known they were real. But that had been centuries before this. Now it was just catch, catch, catch. The Mer could fight their little subs fairly well; they kept going after them till a leak sprang. The boats were another story; they mostly just tried to tip them and-or wound the humans to make them leave. Mer weren’t out to kill people; they actually opposed most kinds of violence. They were even vegetarians. But they couldn’t let them round up their people.

They just wanted to be left alone. They had pretended the humans didn’t exist for years. Why did it have to change now?

The young male wasn’t even sure why the humans were out today; it was bad weather. The sea was choppy, the sky was grey and overcast. It wasn’t a good fishing day. The Mer weren’t very affected by it, but they also couldn’t drown, so that might play a part.

When the rain started falling, it wasn’t necessarily hard, but the wind had picked up, and the waves were rocking the men’s boat quite badly. So badly, in fact, that one of them actually just fell out. Just like that. It was remarkable how easily it happened; Samael would have imagined there was something to prevent that.

Despite the knowledge he should let the man drown, after a moment of hesitating, he dove down. No one noticed, of course; they were all too busy by the humans that were still a threat. It wasn’t so much that he felt a connection with men, it was just…it seemed awful to let something die that could talk and reason and know what was going on.

So he caught the human, pushed surprisingly far down by the waves, his arms wrapped around his waist, grabbing handfuls of the cloth they wore around their bodies, returning the human to the surface as rapidly as he could.

He actually went through the effort of bringing him back to shore, though it was quite a bit out of his way, breathing heavily by the time he deposited the man in the sand. Gods damn. He had never realized traveling above the water was so hard. He couldn’t get any real speed up, and while he could go under for a moment, he couldn’t let the human drown.

                                        Stupid man better appreciate this.
