Test! Test! One, two, three! Test!

Okay, so you've made it this far, which means you're interested in rping with me. I like playing a range of genres but sci-fantasy is my all-time favourite. I'll play male, female, intersex, gender fluid, transgender, child, teen, adult, elderly, abled, disabled, asexual, straight, bi-curious, bisexual, homoflexible, gay, Negro, Caucasian, Asian, wealthy, poor, good, evil, magical, cybernetic, furry, mythological, mundane or anything you throw at me. Hey, it makes all sorts to make the world go 'round so why should rping be any different?

Don't be scared off by this first page. It's just a reference page. The good stuff is in the next pages.

This is my second test forum, which means there was one before this. I know, right? Some of the stuff on there is incredibly old and it was starting to feel too messy. I'm using it as a place to dump rubbishy stuff. I might as well use it as a chat page too so head over there if you prefer talking over OOC threads.

If something I post here takes your fancy, let me know and we can set something up. If you want to use something, let me know. Feel free to PM me any time. Do not post here. I'd love to hear any ideas, questions, suggestions or criticisms you have. This paragraph has no flow.

Okay, I'm sorry to have to do this but I've had this done to me before...

DO NOT POST!

I'M NOT TRYING TO GET THE INVISIBILITY ACHIEVEMENT, WHATEVER THAT IS. THIS IS A TEST THREAD IN THE TEST FORUM, NOT A HANGOUT FOR CHATTERBOX HALFWITS!

Rules and guidelines: They're there for a reason.

CRAVINGS – DO NOT STEAL

All ideas can be mix and matched between or across genres. The more interesting the mix, the more willing I am to hear you out. I'm currently craving something a little darker: cruelty, torment, humiliation, demoralisation, domination and things that test a character's breaking point.

PLOTS - DO NOT STEAL

TRON: Outmode
The old arcade has left for dead. It is just another dilapidated building in a run-down part of town: not even worth demolishing. There are rumours surrounding the old building. It is believed that Kevin Flynn's ghost still haunts the arcade. At night lights can be seen to be flickering or sometimes a window will open or shut.

You and your friends camp their one long weekend. You're trying to find the answer to the puzzle. As you walk into the dusty building you see strange patterns on the floor - tire tracks. Dare you venture further, deep into the secret passage behind the flickering arcade game?

The characters enter the game to discover Flynn and Clu are dead but the old government, described by Sam Flynn many years ago, is still intact. The programs live in fear and the users must find a way to survive and escape.

Prelude to The Winter Tree
I haven't got a title but I'd like to do something with the first humans to come to the Tree, or even the animals. The humans be in a caravan of horses, carts, milk goats, a dog and maybe a place to sleep. That'd depend on how rich the group is. I'm hoping someone will want to develop the idea with me, rather than having it fully set out.

This is what we'd be building on:
Steadily, the winters grew milder and the lands became habitable once again. Birds, reptiles, beasts and all manner of creature ventured warily into the Tree's domain. In the dead of winter, when no other plant dared share its life, the Tree unfurled its white leaves and offered up the most dazzling, silvery fruit. As the fruit split and dropped its pale nuts to the earth, the creatures ventured out from their burrows, pulled by a dire need to be near the Tree.

The creatures gnawed at the nuts of the tree and birds took the silver husks way back to the safety of the forests. Those that hunted prey ate the mice and voles that sat between the Tree's exposed roots. All those who feasted upon the Winter Tree's bounty became large, and bold, and wily. They were the most noble of creatures and their pelts were drained white as stigmata of their feast.

That spring, a motley caravan of peoples came passing by and rested their steeds by the roots of the Tree. Though neither their steeds nor they were stained by the Tree, they felt rejuvenated, nourished, whole. How surprised they were by the Tree's virtues!

The Torn Ones
When angels are torn from Heaven they become the Torn Ones. They must find their Ward - a human whose future is in danger - and become their Guardian. While in their Torn state they are extremely fragile, for their strength is sapped away. They cannot properly protect themselves from Fallen attacks and cannot access their powers. Eventually they will become so tired that they will fall asleep and dissolve into nothing.

The Fallen prey on tired Torn Ones, offering them the choice between fading away or accepting their help. Often they will stalk the Torn One until the very end. By accepting the help of a Fallen they fall further from the grace of Heaven and into Hell, where they too become a Fallen. The Fallen will then seek out humans as prey or recruit new Torn Ones.

If a Torn One manages to find their Ward, they become strong enough to guide the human through their trials. Only their Ward is able to see a Torn One at all times. The Fallen and other Torn Ones can only sense them unless the Torn One wishes to be seen.

The exception is a Warden, who is a human who is able to see all and every Torn One or Fallen. Wardens often deny their gift for fear of being declared insane. If they do accept their gift, they can choose whether to help the Torn Ones or the Fallen. Wardens are extremely prized by the Fallen, who try to trick the Warden into working for them by offering boons in return for their soul.

TBC. I'm sure there was more to it than that.

The last continent on Earth
This thread closed in the Never Ending Scribbles guild. See Page 17 for more info.

The year is 2337AD, or 145AE (Anno Exodus).

It's been 145 years since the Earth was deemed too ravaged to sustain life. The citizens of Earth split into four groups: the Martians who left for the Mars colonies, the Populi Luna who stayed on the Moon colonies, the Citizens of Space Station Omega who left on a ship that orbits Mars and the Polarii who remained on the last inhabitable continent on Earth (Antarctica).

The Polarii live a somewhat peaceful existence trying to rehabilitate the Earth. A border has been set up around their homeland that stops the nuclear waste, pollutants and dangerous solar rays from entering their sanctuary. Each year they push this border further back so that eventually the whole Earth will be safe again. There are also pockets of inhabitable land on the rest of the Earth but the people who live there have harsh, isolated lives.

Alas, the life of the Polarii is under threat. The people of the Space Station Omega do not have the space to manufacture everything they need and they're quickly running out of living space. They are out of money and out of room. Masses of people immigrate to Mars and even the Moon each year. The Moon has set out a decree that no more Citizens are to come to the Moon and Mars is looking to do the same. As close neighbours, Mars and the Space Station Omega have joined forces to attack the Polar Region.

At the age of ten, every child in the solar system is tested for psychokinetic and magical abilities. Their fate depends on which community they live in. The people of the Polar Region who have magical abilities (primarily elementals) are trained to be responsible for the Polar Border and those with psychokinetic abilities are taken into the military. These people are called recruits and undertake an accelerated educational program. At age fourteen, they are implanted with a headset that allows them to view holographic screens and connect directly to the military network by thought.

They are then trained how to connect to the military and public networks using thought alone. They also learn to control their fighter ships, scan beyond the borders of the Polar Region and go into battle all using their thoughts. They complete their training at age seventeen but in emergencies soldiers in training may have to go into battle. From there, they must prove themselves to rise through the military ranks.

Those who fail this phase of training have their headsets removed and are sent to senior education programs along with normal people. They usually require bridging programs to adapt to the lifestyle and educational changes.

I've written this from the point of view of the Polarii. It could easily be from the point of view of the Martians, who view the attacks as a helping SSΩ counterparts or as an investment in colonisation. They also have to focus on their own border security and sustainably inhabiting Mars.

There's also the SSΩ. They're over-packed and don't have the room to grow food. They have to rely on imports from the other civilisations. There's increasing crime and they need a way out. The Polarii are being greedy and not allowing immigration. SSΩ is down to its last resort: war.

What about the Populi Luna? Do they get a say? Just because they're neutral doesn't mean they shouldn't get a say. They're being affected too. There is a lot of tension on the moon because people fear that Mars and SSΩ will attack them if the attacks on the Polar Region fail. After all, they and the Polarii have the longest standing infrastructure and the moon has been colonised and since before the Exodus, not to mention its thriving agricultural attempts.

Finally, there are the scattered peoples of Earth, who never even warranted being named. They don't have the technology to leave the Earth's atmosphere without the Polarii and often send convoys to and from the Polar region for aide. They are vulnerable to any shift in the Earth's mechanics and one electrical storm could wipe out a whole village. Plus, there are also rumours that SSΩ have taken control of a few villages.

Weisses Gekritzel
It'd basically be a dark modern rp that takes place in a city situated near the base of the Siberian mountains.

...Anyway the thing that makes it dark is the fact that rpers would be folklore-ish monsters plaguing the city. The closest thing that I have for a plot would be that a private security company or something like that is hired by the city to hunt down the rpers. It'd be like man vs supernatural, and supernatural vs technology since this may be a bit in the future just for weaponry/tech.

It was the time of the Reformation, as humans called it. Those who were not human called it the Great Discovery, for that was when their presence was established. Between 1480 and 1750AD humans turned from being the hunted to the hunter. They turned on the mythological beings they had forever worshipped and feared and drove them deep into their hiding places in the forests, mountains and oceans. Tens of thousands of innocent humans were slaughtered and even more mythological beings. No “unnatural” creature was spared. It was genocide.

Only those who could pass as human were able to trick humans into assimilating. Only they could move freely across the lands. The others had to seek refuge in what humans called uninhabitable, such as the Ural Mountains in Russia. There, their numbers dwindled but they managed to survive.

It has been roughly 270 years since the end of the Great Discovery and the collective memory of humans is short. The presence of the banished creatures is no longer believed. Humans have forgotten to fear these creatures.

At the base of the Ural Mountains there is a mining city called Inta. The world takes no notice of Inta. It is so isolated that the closest neighbouring city is two days away. Here, the beings that were once chased to the brink of extinction have made their playpen. People are afraid to go into the national forest and the locals pray every night in whispered voices. Nobody goes out at night unarmed or alone. The people of Verkh, a small village near Inta, don't even do that! Those who have friends in Inta often stay the night in town.

Some of the people, the braver, stupider and more adventurous, have set up cameras wherever they hope to catch a creature out. They walk around at night with camera in hand and speak about what's happening. There are dosens of such clip across youtube but the media and the world have yet to catch on and little government interest so far. There is only a small garrison of professionals have been set up in a safehouse in Inta. Perhaps they will do better at investigating the disappearences, haunts and attacks the townspeople speak of.

It was only last week when a troupe of gypsies made their home in the field amongst the city's streets. Their tents were huddled together and a bonfire was lit through the night. They were not the only ones in the camp either. With them they brought wild stories and the last dozen survivors from Verkh, which had been wiped out by horrors no person could imagine. The gypsies told their stories with wide eyes, and the survivors walked amongst them with even wider ones. The survivors knew. They’d seen what happened but would not speak of the horrific scenes they had witnessed.

Mister Mistoffelees magical maze
This roleplay idea has been given over to another player and is currently in design stage.
Imagine a maze where anything can and will happen? Imagine a place where you could be a solid person one minute and a puddle on the ceiling the next? Well, welcome. Welcome to Mister Mistoffelees magical maze. Don't mind the cat; he only eats holes. You don't have any holes, do you?

You come across an old hiking track in your travels. There are no towns nearby and no sign of life other than the bare line of earth that makes up the track. Yus have more than enough time on your hands so you investigate. As you walk, the sun sets unnaturally fast. You find that each step forwards moves the sun lower in the sky. Fascinated, you trek further down the track until the twists and turns make you lose your bearings. Didn't you just come from this direction. Finally, you become lost, which is odd. The track did not branch at any point. Why can't you follow the track back to the opening?

Weary and thinking of sleep, you find a cabin. It's overgrown and smells of dampness and moss. You and your fellows venture in and set up for the night. When you wake, you are in still in the cabin. That's a relief. When you exit though...

You find yourself in a stark white cave. The walls are ornately carved with strange scenes as you have never seen. You cannot seem to follow one track on the white carvings, for they twist and turn in ways that defy logic. As you walk past the walls you make your way to a grandiose doorway. Had the walls been sloping outwards? It seems much bigger than the door you entered, perhaps ten meters high. You glance around to compare it to the door behind you.

It's not there!

Your only way out is forward. You open the door to find a fully black room. In the middle of the room is a glowing, gold podium. In the pitch blackness it is the only thing you can see. On the podium is a leather bound collection of papyrus. On the front of the cover says Mister Mistoffelees Magical Maze: Manuscript Mono.

The angel games
Demons capture angels and take them down to Hell, where they are used in the Nightmare Colosseum. There are many games that the Colosseum offers: 1x1 angel battles, war games between teams of demons and re-enactments between angels and demons. Demons pay to see these battles and gamble on their outcomes. (This could tie in with the Torn Ones)

The World of Gaia
This roleplay will be based on in Barton Town in the World tab. It is a place where technologies, genres, writing styles and time periods meet. When it's daytime, I'm going to copy all the places and put them together to make an in depth map of the World of Gaia. It's a place where you can find a bionically implanted zombie, a Medieval knight in shining armour or a lesser God. No character is too powerful and no post too anything. So long as players remain in setting and in character, anything can happen. The only rules will be obey the guild rules and Gaia's ToS, post a profile before you post in the IC, no autohitting or puppeteering, don't stretch the page and don't leave people in post lock.

As for plots, I guess I could use things from the Manga as well as throwing around things like natural disasters, store closures menacing overlords and quests. I don't really think I need to though because characters will be interesting and interact enough to keep plots going.

GRAMMAR TIPS

Don't be scared off by all this. It's as much for me to remember as for you. I won't bother you about grammar.

Affect & effect: Effect is a noun that means "result". Affect means "to have an influence on".

Brackets: (text) Most people know how to use these (from what I've seen). In creative writing, they're used for definitions, clarifications (such as the one above), citations and asides.

Square brackets are not used in creative writing. They are used for editorial comments only.

Colon: : No, I'm not talking about your butt. razz I'm talking about :. It indicates that what comes next will be a list or that a subject will be expanded on.

Conjunctions or coordinators: Conjunctions (also known as coordinators) join two phrases together. The comma, and, but, or, nor, yet and because are the most used examples of conjunctions. NEVER start a sentence with a conjunction. I cannot count how many times I've read, reread and reread these.

Consider:
Because they went to the park. WHAT BECAUSE? What happened because they went to the park? DOES NOT COMPUTE!

Dashes: - text - Dashes are two large lines that emphasises a phrase. If the phrase follows the rest of the sentence, only one is needed. Dashes, brackets and comma pairs can be used interchangeably, depending on the strength of what is in the phrase. Dashes indicate that the phrase is more important than the rest of the sentence, comma pairs indicate that the phrase is of equal importance to the rest of the sentence and brackets indicate that the phrase is less important than the rest of the sentence. Dashes bring attention to the phrase where brackets can be skipped over. Be careful not to overuse these device.

Consider:
An honest king - if there is such a thing - would never do this to his people. The interjection is the most important part.
An honest king, if there is such a thing, would never do this to his people. The interjection is as important as the rest.
An honest king (if there is such a thing) would never do this to his people. The interjection is the least important part.

Farther and further: Farther refers to physical distance and further means "to a greater degree". Spain is farther from Scotland than England. I've read my history paper further than Jenny has.

Hyphen: - A hyphen is a small line that connects two words or a prefix to a word. For example: e-mail, re-design, three-year-old.

Consider:
Red-haired man: a man with red hair.
Red haired man: a red man with hair. *giggles* It's possible.

Its & it's: The dog wags its tail because it's not raining any more.

Paragraph: A paragraph is one or more sentences relating to a single subject. It usually entails a topic sentence, expansion of the topic sentence, example or proof and a linking sentence. The subject of this paragraph is "what a paragraph is" and the subject of the next is "paragraphs in creative writing". I will not describe what a sentence is in this paragraph.

In creative writing, including rping, a paragraph relates to a set of sentences that can be grouped together. You don't go talking about the weather and the character's clothes in the one paragraph as they are two different subjects. If you see paragraphs all eight sentences long, it's most likely to be two paragraphs muddled together.

You also don't go linking multiple responses to other characters in one paragraph or 2+ people's speech in one paragraph because each response can be considered a new subject. Think: do you see novels looking like the prior conversation?

Consider:
"Joan's bike went that high! You should have seen her," exclaimed Gareth. "Too bad about the landing." "Awww. Dad had me cleaning my room!" "Too bad, so sad."

There are two people talking, thus two subjects. It should be:
"Joan's bike went that high! You should have seen her," exclaimed Gareth. "Too bad about the landing."
"Awww. Dad had me cleaning my room!"
"Too bad, so sad."

Proper nouns: These are specific nouns that represent a unique things, as opposed to common nouns that are a generality or describe a class of things. Proper nouns include particular people, places, objects and events. Think of them as naming words.

Examples of people include:
the Populi Luna
the Polarii
the Martians
the Citizens of Space Station Omega
the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
the Central Intelligence Agency
the Village Idiots Association (VIA)
Doctor Armand Tailor

Examples of places include:
the Sanctuary of the Winter Tree (the Sanctuary for short)
the Polar Region
Mars
Earth (the planet)
the Space Station Omega (SSΩ)
Floor Three of Space Station Omega

Examples of objects include:
the Winter Tree (or the Tree for short)
the Tree of Knowledge
Yggdrasill
the Tome of World Portals
the Egyptian Book of Life (or the Book of Life)

Examples of events:
New Years Day
Christmas
the Feast of Lights
the Great Discovery (page 6)

Quotation marks: "text" or 'text' They surround a quote or speech made by a character. So long as you use them consistently, they can be interchangeable. I personally use 'text' for speech and "text" for quotations unless otherwise advised.

Sentence: A sentence begins with a CAPITAL LETTER and ends in a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.

Semicolon: ; Don't use these unless you're sure on how to do it. A semicolon joins two complete statements to make a sentence. This means that both sides need to be recognisable as sentences. For example: Terry shot the zombie in the chest; Belinda shot it in the nuts.

That & which: I'll admit it, this is a tricky one. Unfortunately, it's one that makes me cringe and I see it done so often.

"That" is used in a phrase that is essential to the sentence.

"Which" is used in a phrase that adds to the sentence (unless it is the "which" that signifies a question). It's almost an add on to the sentence. A comma always comes before "which", unless of course it is a question.

"That" and "which" can only be used at the start of a sentence in certain circumstances. All others are incorrect. "That" as a demonstrative adjective or a pronoun can be used at the start of a sentence. For example: That cat is fat. "Which" in a question can be used at the start of a sentence. For example: Which car will we take?

Consider:
The house that was full of ghouls has been destroyed. Correct!
That house was destroyed; it was full of ghouls. Correct! Demonstrative adjective.
That was scary.Correct! Demonstrative pronoun
The gypsies went into town, which is where they were pummelled with slops.Correct!
The gypsies went into town. Which is where they were pummelled with slops. Wrong! The second part is a dependant clause, which is a clause that cannot stand on its own.

They're, there & their: They're (they are) going to bring their dog to the park. Will you be there?

Try to: "Try to" and "try and" mean different things. To try to do something means you attempt it. To try and do something means you attempted and actually do it, which means there are two attempts. In general, "try and" is incorrect.

Weather, whether & wether: I don't know whether the wethers (castrated sheep) can handle the weather.

You're and your: You're (you are) bringing your snake to graduation?!

GLOSSARY

Animal derived biological implants: Animal organs grown in situ to have the cell membrane and surface antigens of the recipient. A safer way to accept organs than by organ transplants, which require immunosupressant drugs.

Autohitting: Hitting with certainty of outcome. Basically, it's when you say how another's player will be effected by your character's attack. Instead of saying, "Babylonia stabbed Jeshua in the guts and watched it bleed," say, "Babylonia aimed to stab Jeshua in the guts and hoped to see him bleed." You can still hint at what you'd like to happen but you have to soften it with things like tried to, hoped, attempted or thought.

Autoblocking: Blocking every single attack that the other player throws at your character. Try thinking about how likely the hit will land and how much damage it would do. Try taking the most important things into account when deciding how much damage your character takes.

Bowspirit: The person on the ship whose job it is to protect the figurehead during a fight.

Cell culture derived implants: Human organ implants specifically designed to be universal or specific to the recipient. They negate the need for immunosupressant drugs.

Character armour: When the player protects their character from getting injured or killed, even though sometimes the odds are stacked against them

Checkpoint: A point in the roleplay's story where the characters must get to. It may be a turning point or just a point in the road that must be completed before the next subplot can begin.

Cybernetic enhancement: Any electronic or mechanical device that can be attached to a multicellular organism.

Cyborg: Anything with cybernetics that is controlled by a biological central nervous system. Includes animals.

Fade to black: When the players completely skip over a scene that would not be accepted within the ToS.

Fade to grey: When the players skim over or summarise a scene that would not be accepted within the ToS.

God moding: Lit: god - a divine entity that controls all, mode - a manner, form or disposition. Also known as power playing, powered or over powered. It means having a character with too many or too strong powers. It can also mean being invincible through character armour (i.e. autohitting, autoblocking, metagaming and puppeteering). This and puppeteering have become interchangeable but the way I see it is puppeteering is like being the puppeteer over another's character and god moding is having a godly disposition.

Guiding light: A blue glow emitted from the wielder's hands that connects their soul with that of the person they is seeking. Depending on the strength of the connection, the light may extend an inch from their hand to the entire distance between them. Depending on their relationship and opinion of the person they is searching for, the light can be off-white to a deep midnight blue. Also see "tracker".

Induced technopathy: A cybernetic enhancement that allows organisms with central nervous systems to directly communicate with and control technology. The implant responsible acts as part of the sensory nervous system as well as the somatic nervous system. It sends and receives signals with other devices. These devices are often gated and encoded for security and privacy reasons.

Lit-break: Literate level roleplaying without the need for copious paragraphs. The emphasis is on relaxedness and quality rather than blocks of text. Freeform is even more relaxed than lit-break.

Metagaming 1: Lit: the language used to describe gaming. Metagaming is the OOC planning, scheming and building involved beyond the IC posts. E.g. talking to the other player about getting your characters to turn up at the same brothel at the same time and what will happen after...

Metagaming 2: Using OOC information that the IC character doesn't or shouldn't know to influence how the character behaves.

NJC (Non-joining character): A character that one player controls but is not used enough to become a player character/original character. They do not have profile, are often associated with one or more player characters and have names. They are the like the minor characters in a film. You have to ask permission to use someone's NJC.

NPC (Non-player character): A character that anybody can control. They often to do not have names and are only mentioned in passing. They are like the extras in a film.

Plot arc: A series of events or changes that make up a story, plot or subplot. It's how the characters get from the beginning to the end of the story, plot or subplot.

Puppeteering: Controlling what another's character does (thought, dialogue or actions). This and god moding have become interchangeable but the way I see it is puppeteering is like being the puppeteer over another's character and god moding is having a god character.

Retroactive continuity: Retconning is when a player tries to backtrack and alter what has already happened in the roleplay. They might say OOC that something didn't happen or could ignore the event entirely.

Sensory manipulation: The ability to sense and control neurons (nerve cells). You have to be VERY careful when creating a character with this ability or else you will be creating a god character. For example, people must let Caitriona use her abilities before she can manipulate their senses.

Strengths and weaknesses: A strength is any strong point the character has - intelligence, battle knowledge, great strategist, excellent flute player, speaks three languages, witchcraft, bushcraft, can talk themselves out of any situation. They're things a person can be proud of/do well.

Weaknesses are the opposite to strengths. They're things the character fails at or is a hinderance - stammers, physically weak, runs slow, cannot control their powers, cannot swim, no aim or archery skills, short attention span, nervousness, clumsiness, cannot use weapons, susceptible to magic. Having weaknesses means there are things a character still has to learn and develop. It means they won't automatically win every fight they come across.

I prefer to refer to strengths and weaknesses in the context of battle skills. Having a character with battle weaknesses says they can be beaten; they are not a god character. Eg. "afraid of sunlight" may mean the character is nervous and pays less attention to their opponent when in the sun.

Subplot: They're small plots, as opposed to the overarching plot. These smaller plots may be asides or can fit together to create the overarching or main plotline. It's a story within a story. They're usually created by players but sometimes mods like to throw subplots in to make things more interesting.

Tracker: Someone who has the ability to hunt down other characters. It can be done by scrying (with a crystal for example), the ability to sense people's auras, visualised as a thread between the tracker and the target, telepathy, mental projection or many other methods. Also see "guiding light".

Robot: Anything controlled by an electrical operating system. It can have cell culture or animal derived implants.

Windlass: A person on a ship whose job it is to blow wind in the sails.

WRITER'S BLOCK HELP

Posts not long enough? Stuck for something to write? That's what this section is for.

Things to consider in a first post:
XXXWhat do the other players need to know about the character before they can post (eg. personality, appearance, apparel, age)?
XXXWhat do the other players need to know about the setting before they can post (eg. terrain, culture, wildlife, the five (or more) senses)?
XXXHow did your character get to this point in their lives (eg. background, travels, important events)?
XXXWhat background is needed now?
XXXWhat background will be built upon as the story progresses?
XXXWhat needs to be kept hidden until later in the story?
XXXAre there any secondary characters that will be brought in later?
XXXDoes the post engage the reader? You have to remember to make it interesting.
XXXIs there enough for the other players to respond properly?
XXXHow will the characters get to the meeting point?
XXXIs the language appropriate for the setting, atmosphere and character?

Things to consider when writer's block strikes: Other characters:
XXXWhat does your character think of other characters (eg. appearance, intelligence, trustworthiness, etc)?
XXXWhat history is there between the characters?
XXXWhat does your character feel towards other characters?
XXXHow do the other characters make your character want to react?
XXXHow does your character actually react?
XXXCan your character approach a new character?
XXXCan your character strike a conversation with another's character?

Things to consider when writer's block strikes: The environment:
XXXWhat is the environment like (eg. messy vrs tidy, smell, sounds, tastes, atmosphere, visual description, objects, lighting)?
XXXWhat does the character think of the environment (eg. familiar, distasteful, charming, creepy)?
XXXHow does your character feel in the environment (eg. nervous, excited, anxious, bored)?
XXXHow does the character react to what they see, feel, smell, hear, touch or taste? Why?
XXXIf there is no reaction to the environment, why (eg. apathetic, ignoring)?
XXXIs there something in the environment other characters cannot see? Why?
XXXAre the character's reactions instinctual or learned? How?
XXXCan the reactions, characters or environment be related back to something (eg. flashback, science, history, quotations, poetry, literature, movies)?
XXXCan your character move to a new environment?

Things to consider when writer's block strikes: Adding something new:
XXXCan a NPC or NJC be brought in to interact with?
XXXCan a plot be built on for use later?
XXXCan you add something new to the environment?
XXXCan your character think about or do something new?
XXXCan you drop hints about the character's past, present or future?
XXXCan your character ask a new question or start a new conversation?
XXXCan you ask another player for help?

Other tips:
XXXHave your character's emotions show through their actions rather than saying it bluntly.
XXXEverything a person does has a reason behind it, the same goes for characters. Why not justify their actions?
XXXRemember that each action has a consequence. If your character angers someone, they may just come back to taunt your character.
XXXAlways react to other's posts (even if it is just "Joan heard Zeidorzha talking about her Gramma" ).
XXXAlways offer the other characters something to react to.
XXXYour character does not know everything you know.
XXXThink about whether something is logical before you write about it. A rabbit can't climb trees.
XXXTake notice of what others write. It might not relate to you now but the information might be needed later.
XXXTry to keep your character active rather than just observing everything. Wallflowers aren't fun to rp with.
XXXDon't leave people waiting.

CHARACTER PROFILE BASE

How do you start a character? Well, that's easy. Any way you goddamn like! I always start with an idea. It could be a colour, a picture, an attitude, a dream, a written expression, a place, a story or anything I wanted to be. I then build on the idea until I have a rough overview in mind. Sometimes it takes ten minutes, sometimes it takes a fortnight. Sometimes I go on a complete tangent to my original idea. After that I start on the profile or write my ideas down in some sort of structure so I can fill in the gaps. Next I find out their quirks and breathe life into them in my head and in writing... usually through the roleplay but it also means a lot of daydreaming, LOL. I'm a total daydreamer. Always have been and always will be. ^.^ I really love it when I get to put them into different situations and work out how they react or how well they cope. I love character whumping and seeing how far you can push them, what you can push them with until they break. Stripping them down really works out what makes them tick.

Maybe I'm just evil.

PLOTLINE THEORY

The seven causes of conflict:
XXXMan vs. nature
XXXMan vs. man
XXXMan vs. the environment
XXXMan vs. machines or technology
XXXMan vs. self
XXXMan vs. the supernatural
XXXMan vs. gods or religion

The seven basic plots:
XXXRebirth
XXXStatus change
XXXTragedy
XXXMystery
XXXOvercoming the monster
XXXQuest
XXXVoyage and return

The twenty basic plots:
XXXQuest: the plot involves the protagonist's search for a person, place or thing, tangible or intangible (but must be quantifiable, eg. immortality).
XXXAdventure: the plot involves the protagonist going in search of their fortune, and since fortune is never found at home, the protagonist goes to search for it somewhere over
●XXXthe rainbow.
XXXPursuit: the plot literally involves hide-and-seek, one person chasing another.
XXXRescue: the plot involves the protagonist searching for someone or something, usually consisting of three main characters - the protagonist, the victim & the antagonist.
XXXEscape: the plot involves a protagonist confined against their will who wants to escape (does not include some one trying to escape their personal demons).

XXXRevenge: retaliation by the protagonist or the antagonist against the other for real or imagined injury.
XXXRiddle: the plot involves the protagonist's search for clues to find the hidden meaning of something in question that is deliberately enigmatic or ambiguous.
XXXRivalry: the plot involves protagonist competing for same object or goal as another person (their rival).
XXXUnderdog: the plot involves a protagonist competing for an object or goal that is at a great disadvantage and is faced with overwhelming odds.
XXXTemptation: the plot involves a protagonist that for one reason or another is induced or persuaded to do something that is unwise, wrong or immoral.

XXXMetamorphosis: the plot involves the physical characteristics of the protagonist actually changing from one form to another (reflecting their inner psychological identity).
XXXTransformation: the plot involves the process of change in the protagonist as they journey through a stage of life that moves them from one significant character state to another.
XXXMaturation: the plot involves the protagonist facing a problem that is part of growing up, and from dealing with it, emerging into a state of adulthood (going from innocence to
●XXXexperience).
XXXLove: the plot involves the protagonist overcoming the obstacles to love that keeps them from consummating (engaging in) true love.
XXXForbidden love: the plot involves protagonist(s) overcoming obstacles created by social mores and taboos to consummate their relationship (and sometimes finding it at too high a
●XXXprice to live with).

XXXSacrifice: the plot involves the protagonist taking action(s) that is motivated by a higher purpose (concept) such as love, honour, charity or for the sake of humanity.
XXXDiscovery: the plot that is the most character-centred of all, involves the Protagonist having to overcome an upheaval(s) in their life, and thereby discovering something
●XXXimportant (and buried) within them a better understanding of life (i.e., better appreciation of their life, a clearer purpose in their life, etc.)
XXXWretched excess: the plot involves a protagonist who, either by choice or by accident, pushes the limits of acceptable behaviour to the extreme and is forced to deal with the
●XXXconsequences (generally deals with the psychological decline of the character).
XXXAscension: a rags-to-riches plot deals with the rise (success) of the protagonist due to a dominating character trait that helps them to succeed.
XXXDescension: a riches-to-rags plot deals with the fall (destruction) of the protagonist due to dominating character trait that eventually destroys their success.
