  My name is Maggie Simonette Ballast. You can accredit my ancient-sounding middle name to my family's best-known grandmother, my father's mother. She was a little crazy, but hey- that's my life. Maggie is a shortening of Magpie, my real name, but Maggie's on my school forms, so I'm sticking with it.

  I'm a Hufflepuff, if you can believe it. I know I'm smart in my own special way, I like what I like and that's it. But I'd rather not be on the honour roll than be treated like a certified genius. And if I can fend for myself, there's no problem.

  A seventh year, and what I'm going to do as soon as I'm out of Hogwarts is go back with my family and my money and my history, where I know I belong. I can help Grandma out with her... unusual occupation that way.

  Obviously, being a Hufflepuff and not the sharpest guillotine in Europe, I must be a Muggle-born. However, I think Grandma must be a Squib or something- she'll share eventually- because she sure knows a lot about what I've got going on.

  My wand is rowan (it corresponds with my birthday), ten and a quarter inches. It has quite the unusual core, as the wand is made of Mandrake leaf, which I think is personally fantastic. Mandrakes are the coolest magical creatures/plants/whatever, because even as seedlingbabies they can knock a man out!

  It's technically not allowed, but the Slytherins have tonnes of inappropriate/school-forbidden pets, so I figured that Homer, my favourite little black widow spider, would be able to feel at home. My little brother takes care of the others at home, but I brought Homer with me.

  My patronus takes the form of an octopus, likely due to my brother, whose love for the eight-appendaged, boneless cephalopods is abounding. His favourite octopus is named Aristotle, and he is very solitary and serious, I suppose just like me. The octopus is a fantastic creature- and not of the magical breed.

  My boggart is flowers. Tulips, roses, lilies, daisies, bunches of chrysanthemums! All of it! I'm deathly allergic. Plus, our property is barren and doesn't let them grow at all, which is funnily coincidental. I hate them, I hate them.
