CHARACTER ROLE:
LEM: MAIN VOCALIST, SUB-RAPPER, VISUAL
CHARACTER NAME: Lee Hye Rin
AGE: twenty
GENDER: female
FACECLAIM: Lee Ji-Eun aka IU
I feel as if IU has this very soft beauty that works with the type of character I want to make and might also fit being the "face" of LEM. I think IU has this appeal of a girl who can be a little bit on the shy side or maybe slightly insecure, but still remain charming enough to gain attention from the crowds and win over her fans. Plus IU has a great voice, which would work since her position is the main vocalist smile .

DON'T HESITATE & COME TO ME, YOU MIGHT FALL IN LOVE WITH ME
PERSONALITY:
dedicated :: skillful :: amicable || sensitive :: obsessive :: boisterous
Hye Rin has practically dedicated her life to her idol career, she spends her nights and days practicing the dance work and vocals in the practice rooms. She has no intention of giving something up, until she has got it down, especially when it comes to her vocals. However, while her dedication is great, it can have its downside too, for Hye Rin's devotion to her work sometimes overshadows her own health, and at times she chooses some rather unhealthy routes in her life, such as skipping out on lunch to get in more practice hours or trying out the water diet. She has a rather obsessive habit, which makes her almost incapable of stopping herself and calling it a night, or letting herself take a break. Often others are needed to step in and convince her that she has done enough for the day or she'll easily pull an all-nighter and not even realize that the sun has came up, she is just so oblivious to the outside when she is in the zone. But Hye Rin is skillful in what she does thanks to her hours of practice. She has a gentle voice that has a very large range and can go up octaves and notes like it is nothing. She wasn't born with the natural ability to act all smooth when she dances, but it passes enough on stage and in the videos with the help of her group-mates and her practice. If she hadn't, Hye Rin would probably be standing and tripping on stage the whole time. As for rapping, Hye Rin isn't the best in her group, but she has put in the effort to conquer the skill and rap smoothly.
More on her personality, Hye Rin is an amicable person, she's easygoing and it is not that hard to talk to her. She doesn't suddenly get frustrated or find the need to punch a hole in the wall, unless she has a lot of pent up stress that has been sitting around in her heart for a month or so. But other than that, she is full of smiles and loves to talk to those who are close to her. She has the patience of a panda, for example if someone were to drag her off to the bathroom and then ditch her, Hye Rin would be patient enough for an hour before beginning to become suspicious or frustrating. But the thing is... when Hye Rin's patience does run thin, then things get a little scary. This happens about once a month or two months and well, when it does happen it is as if Hye Rin has a dual personality that she just flips on. What happens is that she becomes the devil version of Hye Rin. The girl who is often very obedient, quiet, complacent, and sweet, becomes a raging, stormy, coarse, blunt, and boisterous Hye Rin. Almost complete opposites. This is Hye Rin's rather unconventional form of letting out frustration all at once, and it is quite a spectacle to watch the petite run around the room, screaming her head off about things she hates (such as the taste of pineapples and maybe unappreciative co-workers) while throwing around paper and rubber balls. These little mad stages last for around six hours and when they do happen it is usually triggered by the talk of pineapples. But if pineapples don't come up and Hye Rin is at her max in being the sweet girl, it can happen quite randomly. There is no way to avoid it.
The last thing to be said about Hye Rin's personality is that she is very sensitive, she listens to what people, such as fans, friends, family, her boss, her manager, says and truly takes it to heart. That is why when she hears something negative about her image, especially about her talent, Hye Rin does whatever it takes to correct it, even if it is the wrong thing. She can't get criticism out of her head and often it haunts her and makes her feel as if she is insufficient and doesn't deserve the success that she has received so far. Sometimes it makes her spend many sleepless nights, haunted by the idea that she is wasting time by sleeping instead of improving her skills.
BIOGRAPHY:
► EARLY LIFE;;
- Born on March 21st, the first day of spring, Hye Rin is the youngest child in her family. She has an older sister and an older brother and between Hye Rin and her older siblings, there is a slightly large age gap. Her older brother is twelve years older and her older sister is ten years old and due to this age gap, Hye Rin was kind of a mistake, an unexpected surprise, anyways she has always been treated like a baby, even when she became a teenager. Both of her parents had rather easy/ mundane jobs, her father is a pediatrician and her mother is an elementary school english teacher, both are around kids 24/7. The two of them truly cherished their children and would do whatever it takes to make sure that their three offsprings have the life that they always wanted.
But why not take a moment a discuss how Hye Rin's mother (Mirae) and father (Shi-Yoon) met, which will explain why they treat their children so tenderly and allow their children so much freedom (Slight sidetrack).
Hye Rin's mother was born into a rather elite family, her father was the CEO of Pear Co., which is a major technological company that owns thousands of chain stores all throughout the globe. Mirae family was worth millions, and in order to ensure that these millions would be passed onto a suitable heir, since Mirae was an only child, her family forced her into an arranged marriage with a man she only met once and was twenty years older than Mirae. Hye Rin's mother's first impression of her betrothed was that not only was he short, old, and had extremely bad breath, but also was cold, picky, and overly critical about every single aspect in his life. Everything had to be perfect in his life, especially his wife. Her fiance wanted his wife to be the one who would stay at home everyday and welcome back her husband with respect and obedience, a kiss, and a smile. However, respect and obedience were words that described almost the exact opposite of Mirae. She was more of a wild, loose soul that loved running around the plains with no shoes on, she liked her hair down, she liked being outside. And there was no way that Hye Rin's mother would accept this incoming lifestyle. Even though she complained to her parents, they were stubborn in their decision and threatened to disown their own daughter if she did not marry the suitor they had picked out. As a result, two days before her arranged marriage ceremony, Mirae ran away with just a small backpack filled with some clothes and some snacks. It was on her run-away journey that she met Hye Rin's father, Shi-Yoon.
Shi-Yoon's lifestyle has been the exact opposite of Mirae's rich and glamorous lifestyle. His father was a janitor and his mother died after giving birth to a stillborn child, a child that was supposed to be Shi-Yoon's baby sister. Right from the start, life for Shi-Yoon wasn't easy, at a young age, around ten, he was already out working, throwing the morning newspaper or delivering milk to the rich houses. He had always dreamed about what life would be like if he were rich... And then he met Mirae. Shi-Yoon actually met Mirae far before she even realized he existed, it was when he was a second year high schooler. On his usual route of delivering milk to the upper class on his bike, Shi-Yoon's eyes caught sight of a beautiful woman, Mirae, and that ultimately caused him to ride into a wall. But anyways, for him it was almost love at first sight and for days he would try to find her, he kept his eye out for her 24/7. Over a year had passed by, and not once did Shi-Yoon see Mirae's face, he was just about to give up hope until one night. One night, while walking home alone with his umbrella up to protect himself from the rain, Mirae crashed into Shi-Yoon and it was love all over again. During the time Mirae was running away from her parents and had no place to stay; therefore, asked Shi-Yoon if he would sponsor her for a few days a let her stay at his place. And of course, the love-struck Shi-Yoon agreed without thinking much of the consequences that could have possibly followed. Basically from there, the two of them got really close with one another, Mirae, with Shi-Yoon's help, enrolled into a college and began to major in education, while Shi-Yoon who was always talented with memorization, majored in medicine. The two of them lived rather comfortably for a few months together and at first it was just a friendship, with a little one-sided love from Shi-Yoon. But trouble hit when Shi-Yoon's father came home one day, which was unexpected since he usually spent his hours at his job or at the bar and barely a minute at home. Anyways, Shi-Yoon's father came in intoxicated and belligerent, he forced Mirae out of his house and dragged her back to her home where her parents were waiting. Mirae was forced back into her arranged marriage and it was during this period that she realized that she wanted Shi-Yoon as her husband, that she loved him more than anything else in the world. Shi-Yoon, on the other hand, had already known all along that he was madly in love with Mirae, which is why he began plotting his plan to take back the love of his life. And he did so. On the day of Mirae's marriage ceremony, right before the "I Dos," Shi-Yoon stormed into the chapel, picked up his woman, and made a run for it. The two of them scurried off as fast as they could and they made it. They stayed all over South Korea and when they believed things had finally settled down, the two of them changed their names, had a little wedding ceremony, and went back to Seoul to find their home and finish college.
And now back to the main subject, Hye Rin. After her parent's rather dramatic, obstacle-bearing love story, both of them had decided that they did not want to make the same mistake and lose their children. Therefore, they have a trust system with their children and let them do whatever they want to do. That is why Hye Rin's parents so easily accepted Hye Rin's wish to enter the music world and supported her 100%, agreeing to cover the music teachers and to attend most of her performances.
Ages 1-5: Hye Rin was singing even when she didn't know words yet, she would just babble out tunes and whack the piano. She was the baby of the house and everyone was doing their best to please her. It was quite a silly picture since, as a baby, Hye Rin was a total trouble maker, she would pee and poo on the walls, draw on the walls, the poor walls got a lot of beating from baby Hye Rin. It was when Hye Rin was four that becoming a singer or idol became Hye Rin's dream. Why? It was thanks to a preschool pageant her school hosted, Hye Rin was casted as the choir leader and she just fell in love with singing, even though she couldn't read yet, she would just copy the sounds that she heard and would practice those jumble of noises over and over again at home.
Ages 6-11: Hye Rin started her music lesson, she had a private voice teacher and was learning the piano, guitar, and violin at public lessons. She put in the hours and at a young age showed her dedication towards music. During middle school, she would perform at her school's talent show and often win with her solo acapella, performances. These victories just pushed Hye Rin further in her dream of becoming someone in the music industry and when she shared this with her family, they decided to allow her to transfer into an arts school. There Hye Rin began to prosper and was even in a small after-school band comprised of Hye Rin and two other boys in her grade, they were called PANDA BABIES. The name was made by their parents, they had no say in it.
Ages 12-15: PANDA BABIES was doing well, they became quite a popular group in the school, everyone was listening to them during lunch and after school. The guys were following around little Hye Rin and the girls were crowding the two boys in her group. And when they gained enough confidence from the attention and positive criticism from their community, the PANDA BABIES, when they all turned 14 had a little mini tour around Seoul, financed by their parents. Though after the tour, things changed. The PANDA BABIES returned back to their normal lives when they were 15 and while Hye Rin wanted to go even further with her music career, her two bandmates were tired with music and just wanted to have it as a hobby, not an actual career. Therefore, the three of them broke apart and went their own ways.
Ages 16-17: A few years before Hye Rin was admitted to be a part of PYT'S Entertainment's co-ed group, CLARITY, she began auditioning for other companies. Hye Rin was a freshman at one of Korea's biggest art school, known to school many top idols, such as Bae Suzy and Sehun from EXO, this school is called, Seoul Performing Arts High School. Anyways, so at age 16, Hye Rin went out and auditioned to businesses such as JYP Entertainment, LOEN Entertainment, and YG Entertainment. She did numerous amounts of auditions and always got close to the finals, but didn't make it through. That is until she was seventeen. For her seventeenth birthday, Hye Rin gave auditioning to PYT Entertainment a shot and she made it, she was initially just going to be a solo singer, until PYT Entertainment came up the idea of CLARITY and decided to form a co-ed group, putting Hye Rin in the group, instead of being a soloist, which she really didn't mind too much. And so the official trainee years began.
► TRAINEE YEARS;;
- Trainee years were filled with many bittersweet memories for Hye Rin, such as having her first love and her first heartbreak. For over a year Hye Rin trained with the seven other boys and girls that made up CLARITY, but there was one guy who really got to Hye Rin. He was the leader of the boy section of CLARITY and well Hye Rin and him just naturally clicked and without even saying much the two began spending a lot of alone time together, whether it was sitting on the roof and watching the sunset or just being in the recording studio practicing together. Hye Rin never told him straightforwardly about her feelings and that she loved him, because she was a little bit scared, but also because she felt as if there was a strong enough connection that there was no need to say the three words out loud and that it was likely that the feelings were mutual. This was Hye Rin's love life as a trainee and while it was often on her mind, her main focus was on her singing and performances, which was/is most important to Hye Rin.
As briefly explained in her early life, Hye Rin was already a part of PYT Entertainment and was originally supposed to be a soloist; however, was grouped to be a part of PYT Entertainment's new project, CLARITY, before her trainee days as a soloist even started. Hye Rin was seventeen at the time and ready to enter the music industry as soon as possible.
Professionally, as a trainee with PYT Entertainment, Hye Rin got some of the best vocal trainers, dance instructors, and composers in the world. With her vocal coach Hye Rin managed to stabilize her vocals and create her own style that she could stick to and was unique. She found her strength with singing and even improved on her instrumental skills, her ability in instruments widened from being piano, guitar, and violin to piano, guitar, violin, drums, bass, flute, recorder, and ukulele. There is just something about instruments that really draw Hye Rin in and make her want to master them in at least a month. Though besides singing and playing instrument, Hye Rin learned how to dance too, but that sure was a struggle. Hye Rin doesn't really have that smooth dancing machine kind of ability, it is a struggle for her to present her dancing and she sometimes shies away when she is dancing. As a trainee she had to get used to the sexy dancing numbers, and while she tried her best, Hye Rin realized that dancing was just something she wasn't fully cut out to do. She would spend hours practicing each move, but sometimes it just takes that natural skill, which is why often in music video when it is on Hye Rin's solos, she usually gets a close-up, uses her acting skills, or does some very elementary dance moves. Afterwards she kind of just hides behind the rest of the group. So dancing is definitely a weakness for Hye Rin. She also got to learn the basics of acting during her trainee days since she couldn't do all the choreography and therefore needed to make it up with facial expressions and her acting skills. Acting was something that Hye Rin never really had an interest in before, because she was so focused on singing and playing a dozen instruments; however, after taking some lessons from the acting instructor, Hye Rin realized how essential acting was in a music career and how it would help her express her music. Therefore, she took each lesson seriously and has formed a strength in her acting skills, which is great because she can get away with her rather inept dance skills.
For relationships with her fellow members, besides the guy she had a spark with, Hye Rin for the most part would like to say she got along with everyone in the group and that none of them were enemies. She wasn't a shy person and she was sweet towards everyone, but then again there are her monthly episodes of rage that happen... which probably shocked many. And there's bound to have conflict here and there with other members, which is completely understandable. But for the most part, Hye Rin was usually close with her fellow members. That is until the girls were cut from CLARITY. This news really shocked and scared Hye Rin, she felt as if a bond between herself and the other three girls grew stronger because they were all in the same situation and scared. But somehow, SUMMIT Entertainment stepped in and picked them up and the trainee years continued for another five months and never has Hye Rin ever been so grateful. But at the same time she was heartbroken. Before leaving PYT Entertainment, she had to part ways with the guy that she thought she could have seen a potential future with and she didn't want to lose him. Though then she was reminded how music always came first in her life and that it would never change. As a result, Hye Rin and the girls said their good-byes and became the well-known girl group LEM.
As a trainee under SUMMIT Entertainment, the conditions were challenging, Hye Rin had to put three times more work in, because the comments on CLARITY's teaser really got to Hye Rin, she felt as if it was all her fault that the girls got cut. Hye Rin would spend many nights practicing rather than eating or sleeping, it's her obsessive side showing. She felt inadequate in her skills and so Hye Rin didn't watch her health and one day during rehearsal, she passed out. When she woke up she was in the company's hospital being told her fainting spell was caused by exhaustion and lack of proper protein. But really these words were just a blurb to Hye Rin and all she was thinking at the time was about her career and practicing. She had a second fainting episode and that was when the SUMMIT Entertainment CEO, Choi Jae Hwa, stepped in and brought Hye Rin to his office. He set a curfew for Hye Rin to make sure she got her sleep, along with mandatory breaks so that she can eat and he informed her that if she were to neglect her health again he would have to cut her from LEM. Back then Hye Rin was so frustrated and angry at she was forced to these conditions, but she followed them anyways and slowly her health returned to its original state, and looking back, now Hye Rin really appreciated Choi Jae Hwa for stepping in. By the time LEM was ready to debut, Hye Rin was happy, healthy, and ready to live the busy idol life. Finally her dream was here.
► IDOL YEARS;;
- Finally an official idol in the world, Hye Rin and the other three girls of LEM were quickly ranked as the top of the top. There was publicity all over and everything was a whirlwind and they were like overnight sensations. Since the debut Hye Rin has gotten multiple CFs, variety shows, photoshoots, collaboration, and tv show offers. She still spent a lot of her time mostly practicing because she knew there was still much to improve, she worked hard especially on her dancing skills to keep up with the rest of the group. But those practice hours were shorter than her trainee days because Hye Rin's image was now out in the world and she was getting offers from all over to do appearances. She's done several commercial films for Etude House, Laneíge, The Face Shop, Samsung Galaxy, Neoguri, K-food, Domino's Pizza, My Chew, Bodyguard, Dunkin Donuts, and Canon. She also did quite a few photoshoots for fashion lines and magazines such as 1st Look, High Cut, ELLE, Céci, Vogue Girl, Vogue, InStyle, Marie Claire, ELLE girl, GQ, NYLON, COSMOPOLITAN, BAZAAR, allure, G for Guess, Nine West, Real Baby-G, Lucky, MIXXO, YesStyle, UnionBay, le coq sportif, That's Basic House, LUCKY, Headline Seoul, and Bean Pole. She's done a collab with numerous artists such as IU, Bae Suzy, Luhan and Chanyeol, Henry, f(x), Jiyeon, Chen, TOP, Myungsoo, Lim Kim, Ailee, Hyorin, Seulong, and San E. Hye Rin hasn't done any movies, but she has done a few episodes for various korean dramas such as Heirs, Pretty Man, My Love from Another Star, Prime Minister and I, Miss Korea, You're the Best Lee Soon Shin, Marry Him if you Dare, The Master's Sun, I Hear Your Voice, Her Legend, Who Are You?, and Good Doctor. Hye Rin has also done a few OSTs for some dramas such as IRIS 2, Gu Family Book, The Master's Sun, My Love from Another Star, and Heirs. She has attended various variety shows, usually with another member from her group and only once alone, these variety shows include Running Man, Weekly Idol, Happy Together, Music & Lyrics, Immortal Songs 2, Gag Concert, Happy Counselor, The Return of Superman, Mama Mia, Entertainment Weekly, and Invincible Youth. Hye Rin has also done a few MVs for other artists such as Breakup Dinner, 60 seconds, Red Shoes, You and I, Shampoo, Pabo, Love Girl, We were in Love, Severely, Tears, The Real Reason we Broke Up, Gone, Story of Someone I Know, Have You Ever Cried, and 1-4-3 "I Love You." She is currently in zero sub-units.
As for the success of CHECKM8, Hye Rin is rather conflicted, on one side she is cheering for them and on the other she is hoping that they will hit an obstacle and therefore let LEM stay on top, after all the two groups are each other's competition. Though she knows these guys and knows that they deserve the success. But for the most part, Hye Rin didn't want to think of CHECKM8, because when she does all she can think about is that one guy... their leader and Hye Rin really felt the need to move on from that past. However, right when she felt most ready to let go of her trainee days with CHECKM8 and with him... They met again.
Hye Rin was in the mood to watch a rather sad love story, something to make her feel better about letting go of her past lover. Right when she reached for the DVD her hands brushed against another's and when she looked it was him out of all people. The heart that Hye Rin had just spent almost a year sewing up was ripped open within seconds as her heart raced at the sight of him. So much for trying to get over him.
MISC:
Hye Rin loves dogs, but has a fear of cats, which is strange, but just how it works. She is also allergic to cat fur, so maybe that is one factor to why she is scared of them. She also hates closed spaces, if she were to ever get trapped in an elevator or locked in a box she would have a major panic attack. Being up in high places actually doesn't scare Hye Rin too much.
