Twenty five years had passed since the return of the King and the crowning of Aragorn as
King Elessar Telcontar, the first High King of the Reunited Kingdoms of Gondor and
Arnor. The king was away much of the early days of his reign for many of the Haradrim
and Easterlings still gave the kingdoms trouble, but he was present enough for Arwen his
Queen to bear him a son and heir. They named him Eldarion and he grew up needing
nothing, but was quite a good soul as his father was before him. Eomer, now King of
Rohan, married Lothíriel of Dol Amroth. They had a daughter first, Folwyn, who spent
much time in Ithilien with her aunt Eowyn, married to Faramir Steward of Gondor and
Prince of Ithilien. Years later Eomer’s heir was born and named Elfwine, but he is a child
in this tale and does not much come into the telling. To Faramir and Eowyn was born a son,
Elboron Prince of Ithilien. During these years many of the Elves that had called Middle Earth
home had left, taking the grey ships over the sea to Valinor. But a few remained. Elrond of
Rivendell left behind his two sons as well as his daughter Arwen. Both Elladan and Elrohir
took up their father’s place in Rivendell and from Elrohir came his daughter Morniel. She was
born many years before and her memory spans a count of sixty years of Men, but played no
part in the events of the Third Age. She spent much time in Gondor with Arwen and helped to
raise Eldarion while present, though she was only there for his first few years and did not again
appear until he was a young boy on the cusp of manhood.

You may wonder why these events hold meaning and I shall tell you. From these lines
come some important people, Men and Elves, and indeed even Dwarves come into this
story. For though Sauron was vanquished and his terror destroyed, many that were in
his service endured. While Aragorn led a united army against the Haradrim and Easterlings,
a new power had begun to rise far closer to home than they imagined. It began with a
series of murders in Edoras. While disturbing and of great consequence – the Men murdered
were held in high esteem by Eomer, King – there did not appear to be anything other than
jealousy in the ranks of the Rohirrim to blame. For a time, this was believed, but a murderer
was never caught. Soon after, murders occurred scattered across Rohan. And then close to
Rivendell. The differences here were that the culprits were seen. They were Men, or orcs in
some cases, bearing a strange jewel wound snug around their necks. It glowed and glittered
with an unearthly red light. The Elves of Rivendell were able to fell one of the Orcs and so
this jewel came into their possession, but it was of strange make to them and unknown.
Morniel wrote of this to her aunt Arwen in Gondor, and secretly to Eldarion as well. Through
correspondence between Gondor and Rohan, similarities were discovered and the truth was
beginning to become clear: someone or something was attempting to take out important
figures from every realm.

This is where our story begins.

This is not a democracy, I reign as supreme queen with Rose Scented as my
right hand. Please show us respect as the creators of this roleplay and the
drive behind the story. We try to be fair in all that we do, but please understand
that sometimes we must rule in favor of what is best for the roleplay, not
for your pride.

Read all of the rules! This is very important and we cannot stress this enough.
This will cover everything you need to know for joining the roleplay and
what is expected of you should you be accepted. Do not bypass this or
skim over it!

Please follow all Gaia ToS. This includes your behavior in character,
in OOC, and stealing graphics, characters, character ideas, story ideas, etc.
We have worked hard on this roleplay, its idea, and its graphics and the
people we bring into this roleplay work hard on their characters. We will not
hesitate to report for any theft.

Do not join this roleplay if you do not intend to stay for a long time.
This is a long term roleplay and we expect everyone who joins to stick with it
until the end. Real life happens, we know and understand that. If
something comes up and you can't post as regularly as usual, just let
us know and keep us informed. c: Being active does not mean you have
to post all day every day. I certainly don't. It means that I expect you to
communicate with me and everyone else to make sure this role play
doesn't die.

Please be sure you send in a character reserve before posting in the OOC!
You can find the coding listed below. We will be looking at your writing
abilities, so expect us to stalk your posts a bit to be sure of your skills.
This is not a slight on you, but an attempt to be sure you will be a good
fit with us. If you were invited to join the RP, that means your samples
were already looked at and you may bypass the reserve stage!

Once your reserve has been accepted, you will have two weeks to create
your character and finish your profile. During this time we expect you to
plot with the rest of us and work on bringing your character into the story.
By the end of the two weeks you should have enough to write up your first
post! If you do not manage to get these things done in the two week window,
we will have to ask you to leave.

All posts must have 1200 words, minimum. This is an advanced lit
roleplay and we'd like to keep it that way. Simply, that means no posts that
fall along the lines of using asterisks ( * ), colons ( :: ), or other such keyboard
symbols to dictate actions. Please try and maintain a format as if you were
writing a story. USE PROPER GRAMMAR. I cannot stress this enough. Obviously
this doesn't apply to character speech, unless your character is into that sort
of torture.

Please no childish, whiny, or super shy characters. This is not the type
of roleplay for that. That's not to say you can't have a shy or reserved
character. We don't mind shy or socially awkward characters, so long as
they aren't useless simpering "ship with me I need protection!" types. Life
can be difficult in Middle Earth and many families are still rebuilding the
lives that were broken at the end of the Third Age. Children grew up in hard
times and are now adults. Please remember that.

We'd prefer to take people ages 18+ Now, this might seem a little strange.
We're not the kind of people that turns a roleplay into a smutfest, but due to
strong adult themes and lots of gore and violence, we're going to have to insist
on this.This does not mean that we will be breaking ToS. This means that
everyone here is an adult and we expect you all to write like it as well. Disputes,
debates, drama and disagreements are all going to happen, but they can happen
without someone getting offended or hurt. I want to make one thing very clear
about this. This is not a rating for the roleplay. Simply we prefer people who are
of legal age (by United States standards, where many of us are from) because this
is what we are comfortable with.

Please use only real life pictures. If you need help finding a model, both
myself and Rose Scented would be more than happy to help you. For Elves,
you do not need to show the ears. Likewise for Dwarves or Hobbits, you do
not need to show the height. So long as the character is believable. As a side
note for Dwarves, if you manage to find an extremely lifelike image that
isn't actually a real person, please run it by myself or Rose Scented to make
sure you can use it. In some cases we will allow it.

We would lovelovelove it if you could pretty up your post with graphics
and such! If you need help with that, just let me or Rose Scented know and
we'll be more than happy to help you out with a format to suit your character.
There's no need for you to go all out with millions of gold spent on posting
graphics, but we know of a handy little shop or two if you're looking for
something really snazzy.

We like to plot on EtherPad. We have one set up specifically for this
roleplay and we expect everyone to use it! It's chalk full of useful information, too.
We still expect everyone to be active in the OOC, even if it's just some chatter. We
also have a Skype chat for those interested.

Please do not make your character the be all end all of fighting. Likewise,
do not give your character too many or too powerful abilities. Everyone has a
limit and we expect your character's abilities to be well thought out. Please don't
be upset if we ask you to change something.

These are only a guideline of sorts to give you an idea of who you can use as
parents and where you should expect them to be at present. This does not
mean that you cannot come up with an entirely original character with no ties
to any canon characters.

xx▏ARAGORN & ARWEN

Eldarion is the son of Aragorn and Arwen and heir to the throne of Gondor.
He is just and kind and kingly as his father. He has not known the
same hardships, but his love of Gondor and the free peoples of Middle
Earth is the same. He is in his early twenties and has not seen much
battle, though he has trained diligently. So far Arwen has also given
birth to two daughters with a third on the way. The eldest daughter
is in her teens, the younger only ten.

xx▏FARAMIR & EOWYN

Faramir was given Ithilien to reign as Prince and has been rebuilding
there. With Eowyn he settled in Emyn Arnen, where Eowyn gave birth
to Elboron, who is now in his early twenties. He has seen more of battle
than Eldarion as Ithilien was far closer to Mordor than Gondor. There
are still remnants of Orcs, Goblins, and some companies of Men that
attempt to roam across Ithilien.

xx▏EOMER & LOTHIRIEL

Eomer and Lithiriel met in Ithilien. Soon after they were wed, she conceived
and bore him a daughter, Folwyn, who is now in her early twenties. Due to
war, they were not able to conceive another child for some time. Eventually
one was had and Eomer's son and heir was born, Elfwine who is now a child
of six.

xx▏ELROHIR

One of the last of the Half-Elven, or indeed last of the Elven on Middle Earth.
Elrohir and his brother Elladan chose to stay in Middle Earth, feeling that they
had work yet to be done. With them stayed Elrohir's daughter, Morniel, who
spends much of her time in Gondor and the fading trees of Lothlorien.

xx▏ELLADAN

Both Elladan and Elrohir stayed in Rivendell to mind their father's
home. Elladan in particular kept a close eye on the movements of
nearby Orcs and the Goblins in Moria. He offers counsel when he
can, though often it is his niece Morniel that takes written messages
to and from Gondor.

xx▏LEGOLAS

After Aragorn was crowned king, Legolas and Gimli traveled across
Middle Earth together to discover all the wonders it had to offer.
They frequently visited both Gondor and Rohan and helped in the
initial war effort to drive back the Haradrim and Easterlings. However,
Legolas could not ignore the call of the sea for long and left his
legacy behind in Mirkwood to take a Grey Ship into the west. It
is said that Gimli went with him.

xx▏GIMLI

Gimli lost much by the end of the Third Age. Many of his kin suffered
losses on their own lands whilst the free peoples of Middle Earth sought
the destruction of Sauron. He did return to his family with Legolas, but
when Legolas left for Valinor, Gimli seems to have disappeared with him.

I only have a vague outline of where this story will go. You, the writer,
will help determine how we get there. Not everything is set in stone
here and I'm more than happy to take suggestions!

xx▏WHO IS THE ANTAGONIST?

He has yet to be introduced and may not be for some time.
For now all that you need to know about this guy is that he
is a sorcerer of sorts and is using relics -- amulets, specifically --
to control Men and Orcs to do his bidding.

xx▏RELICS? WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?

These relics allow the sorcerer to control whoever wears them.
Somehow this guy has figured out a way to create lesser versions
of a master relic, so to speak. This works not unlike the One Ring,
except the essence of the creator is not in the main relic. Whoever
holds it, controls the others and they can be destroyed by anyone.
They were a sort of prototype and cast aside, forgotten, when the
Ring of Power was made.

xx▏SO WHERE DO WE START?

Your character, or a character associated with yours, will receive a summons
to travel to Gondor. This is where you will be starting. Your arrival in Gondor,
alone or with another character, seeking out the Prince and settling in. Once
everyone has settled in, we'll be diving into a council to discuss the issue of
murder across Middle Earth. Morniel will bring forth a relic recovered from an
Orc outside of Rivendell and point them in the direction of Ithilien. Our goal
for the beginning of the story is to create a small company to seek out the
person behind these killings.

xx▏SO WHERE ARE ARAGORN AND THE OTHERS?

Aragorn, Eomer, and Faramir will be off fighting against the Haradrim
and Easterlings and remnants of Orc companies. They will not come into
this story save for possible small NPC roles. Arwen and Eowyn will be
small NPCs used very minimally. The Hobbits do not come into this story.
Elrohir and Elladan may come into the story as NPCs at some point, but as
of right now there is no use for them.

xx▏CAN I PLAY A MAJOR CHARACTER FROM LOTR?

No, you may not. There will be no resurrection of Gollum, no change
to the actual story of The Lord of the Rings, and major characters from
the story will not be anything more than NPCs. The closest you may
come to using an existing character is to write for a descendant of one
of the main characters, such as Eldarion (Aragorn's son) or Elboron
(Faramir's son.) Most characters will be entirely original, though (such
as Folwyn, Eomer's daughter.)
