~Welcome to North Carolina's Revolutionary Home!~

User Image
Tryon Palace was used as the capitol of North Carolina during the Revolution. For more information see following post.

This is a PRIVATE RP based on the idea of providing background interactions for the southeastern state OC's featured in the Hetalia Axis High School Guild. (The other states, America and nations are naturally welcome to visit, too!) If you wish to join this RP, please send a PM to me and I'll consider it, but you most likely won't be accepted if you aren't an active member of the guild linked below.

User Image

Because this RP will be mostly based around the home life and training of the Americans, intensive knowledge of the Revolutionary War is not necessary. However, some familiarity with a state's role during the war is strongly advised. You might want to at least google a timeline to see what the current year's hot-topics might be for them to talk about. This RP may or may not transition into the years after the Revolution, but that's something we'll worry about later.

*IMPORTANT: You can take more than one character! As of now there is no maximum number, but please do not overextend yourself. Know your limits! Remember, taking nation characters is not only allowed, it is encouraged.

We're starting to get more people than I originally anticipated! Here's an OOC Thread! Discuss, plot events and make friends.

North Carolina
Facts:

~NC’s first colonial capital was incorporated at Edenton in 1722.

~Even before becoming governor, around 1764 and 1765 William Tryon worked with John Hawks an architect to build an elaborate home.

~Due to constant increase on tax for the construction, this became considered a medium as part of NC’s War of the Regulation and Battle of Alamance.

~In 1771, Tryon had lived a little more than a year at the palace when he moved to New York.

~Governor Josiah Martin fled the palace once the American Revolution began in 1775; Patriots then converted the mansion into the State’s Capitol building.

~ North Carolina's Fourth Provincial Congress met in Halifax in the spring of 1776. On April 12 that body unanimously adopted a document later called the "Halifax Resolves," which was the first official action by an entire colony recommending independence from England.

~The first general assemblies were held at the Tryon Palace and many of the furnishings were auctioned by the newly-formed state government.

~Four men lived in the Palace as governors. Richard Caswell, Abner Nash, Alexander Martin, and Richard Dobbs Spaight.

~In 1794 Raleigh became the state’s Capitol.

~ The Palace was used for many different purposes, including a school, boarding house, and a Masonic lodge.

~1798, a cellar fire burned the Palace leaving only the Kitchen and Stable safe. Only the Stable Office still stands today.

~The Mansion was reconstructed in the 1950’s and sits across from the original location.

NC's
Historical Figures:

Nathanael Greene
was a major general of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War. When the war began, Greene was a militia private, the lowest rank possible; he emerged from the war with a reputation as George Washington's most gifted and dependable officer. Many places in the United States are named for him. Greene took command at Charlotte, North Carolina on December 2.

Richard Caswell: Severed as Governor in 1776 to 1780 and from 1784 to 1787. Caswell was president of the provincial congress that wrote the first North Carolina Constitution in 1776. As a Patriot officer in the American Revolutionary War, Caswell led North Carolina militiamen in the Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge. In 1780 he was also commissioned as a major general of North Carolina troops. At the Battle of Camden, his troops panicked and fled the field, leaving the Continentals behind to suffer defeat.

Abner Nash: He was elected Governor by the legislature in 1781. During his brief tenure as governor, North Carolina saw some of its worst conflicts as a battleground in the American Revolutionary War. His temper and poor health were poorly suited to the needs of war. This brought him into difficulty with the legislature. The assembly appointed Richard Caswell as commander-in-chief of the militia, even though the constitution assigned this responsibility to the governor. Later in 1782, North Carolina eased political tensions by sending Nash as a delegate to the Continental Congress.

Alexander Martin: In 1774, Martin was elected to the Assembly in North Carolina. He was commissioned a lieutenant colonel in the Continental Army in 1775, and in 1776 was promoted to colonel in command of the 2nd North Carolina Regiment. Severed as Governor 1782-1785 .He helped defend against the first British attempt to take Charleston, and then fought at the battles of Brandywine and Germantown. He was accused of cowardice and court-martialed for his conduct at Germantown. Although acquitted, he was compelled to resign his commission. He was elected Governor by the legislature once again in 1789, 1790, and 1791.

Richard Dobbs Spaight: In 1778 served as an aide to General Richard Caswell during the American Revolutionary War until 1781. Although he was elected to the North Carolina General Assembly in 1779, he was denied his seat after the election was challenged. Spaight was again elected in 1781 and served until 1783.

Under Construction!

Need to fact check statuses just to be sure

~Stats and Current Loyalties~

This is to keep track of other characters who may or may not be featured later in the RP. It's just for reference if people get confused. When a character is taken some information may be edited depending on how they interpret the history/background of their character. I'm going to include almost all official North American colonies existing at the time of the Revolutionary War. (Well, I'm not going to include all of New Spain because that would take forever and it's highly unlikely anyone cares for the sake of this RP)

*Status ranges in degree of danger from Captured > Occupied > Direct Threat (meaning the enemy is on their doorstep and are a direct target) > Under Threat (meaning they are at risk of being targeted and/or involved in skirmishes) > Not Under Threat (no army is currently targeting them)

As of 1777...

These will only be added as people join, but if there's a state you want to play who hasn't been mentioned, google "___ American Revolution" and you might be surprised! Be sure to pay close attention to the Dependents and you'll see there are quite a few States who you could consider as being a separate entity already even if they haven't left their big brother's/sister's house yet.

IMPORTANT!
Events

These are not always historical events. If they have some historical relevance they will be accompanied by vital facts. Be sure to check here for what plots and interesting things might be going on at North Carolina's house.

Non historical events will be marked with a ● and historical events will be marked with a ★

● Overnight there were reports about unusual activities from the British that have lead some people to believe there might be a spy living at the Palace! Be on alert for any suspicious persons. In a land filled with Patriots and Tories you never know who might secretly be your enemy...

●There have also been sightings of small groups of England's native allies patrolling a little too close for comfort. There could be a plot in the works.

~Watauga~

"Western Territories of North Carolina"

Watauga blinked up at the giant colonial building in front of him. He had seen mansions such as this before from a distance, but he had never actually been inside of one. It was so different from the little cabins and taverns that his people usually met in that he felt as though he had traveled to a foreign land instead of just crossing the mountains. The little territory clutched his meager bag of possessions against his chest for comfort as his brown eyes scanned the palace. Did North Carolina really live here? It was so big. He knew she was much older and far more developed than him, but it still felt overwhelming. Did all the colonies have big houses like this?

Several men of important dress marched past him and barely gave the little boy and his tattered buckskins a second glance. Watauga frowned awkwardly but steeled himself to approach his new sister's home. He had the letter from his boss clutched in his tiny fist as he knocked on the giant door. The small child stepped back and held it up for whoever opened it so they could see the explanation for his arrival.

Watauga looked and felt so out of place, but he understood that the frontiers weren't safe for him right now. If one of England's native allies got hold of him they would be able to overcome the mountain settlements then directly aid the invading nation in attacking the colonies. While Watauga had a limited understanding of battle tactics, he knew that would be bad for the Continental Army. His only gripe was that he could fight and didn't like that his boss was putting him under someone's direct protection. Of course, it would be nice to properly meet and get to know his new sister...

Providence of North Carolina

She had been in her room looking out the window, watching the world around them. It must be hard on the people with this war going on. Something usual appeared in the view of her bedroom window. A boy in clothing that was usual to see in the Eastern part of her state and very different from the British's style. "He must be from the west." she concluded since it reminded her so much of the folks that lived her Western part.

The nervous state pasted by the room of where her recent bosses discussed their battle plans and ideas. None of them had seen nor heard the boy walk up to the entrance. Normally she would of let the servants or workers answer, but she was much too curious. She held her breath and slowly opened the door. "Yes? May I help you?" she asked in a polite voice. The state was wearing a simple yet formal dress that she was to wear long as she stayed at the Palace. She had her flowing brunette hair pin up so that her emerald eyes were shown. Even if it was obvious that she was older than the guest that stood before her, however she was still quite young, perhaps around early to mid teens.

~Watauga~

"Western Territories of North Carolina"

Watauga looked up at the girl who had opened the door. She was very different from the rough and hardy women he was used to. Though her clothes were relatively normal among the colonies, to him they were among the fanciest garments he'd seen a girl wear. He had seen a few women of high society once or twice when he went to trade at Virginia or South Carolina, but only from a distance. The little boy suddenly felt nervous and shyly looked down.

"M... My boss sent 'dis..." he mumbled softly as he held up the letter to her which would explain everything.

The letter was relatively long and horribly spelled, but the words behind it were well constructed. It was addressed to North Carolina informing her that this was the little brother she had recently agreed to take in. The letter further detailed some of the recent atrocities and raids among the frontiers which had lead his boss to feel he would be safer actually living at her house.

The former illegal settlement just watched North Carolina read with his big brown eyes. He was still clutching his little bag against him and waiting to see if she would let him in or turn the scruffy looking westerner away. Watauga couldn't help feeling anxious. None of the colonies had ever let him into their actual homes so he partially expected to be rejected on sight even if he was now a part of her.

The girl took the letter and began reading. It was ridiculously long and not to mention the writing was atrocious. Oh England would scold her to hours on end if she ever wrote like this. England... it probably wont be long before he discovers and recruits her Tories*. She only skimmed through the letter and read the important details. Once done she glanced to the shy boy. "You're Watauga, my new brother?" she asked. After a second of silence she attacked him with open arms.
"Why didn't you say so! Come on in, my home is your home!" she exclaimed. Just then a maid or two who were working paused to give the girl the funniest look. Realizing her short moment of lost of her manners she adjusted herself to let go of the poor boy, cleared her throat and stood straight again. "I'm terribly sorry for my actions just then. I am North Carolina, welcome to my home. I'll show you to your room." she offered her hand and smiled with blushed cheeks still left from embarrassment.

~Watauga~

"Western Territories of North Carolina"

Watauga nodded quietly at her question and wasn't quite sure how to interpret the look she gave him, but he didn't have long to worry about it before he suddenly found himself tangled up in her arms. The boy instinctively tried to dodge back, but the older and faster colony snagged him before he could escape. Watauga shut his eyes tight expecting her to try to snap his neck or suffocate him. North Carolina's fighting technique though... didn't have quite the impact he expected. The boy cracked an eye open as she pressed him against her chest in a strange manner he wasn't sure how to interpret, but he didn't seem to be in pain.

The little boy almost fell back when she released him and straightened herself. His hair and the tail on the back of his coonskin cap was a bit frazzled as he watched North Carolina properly introduce herself. Well, it was nice of her to apologize for attacking so suddenly, but it was awfully strange. Maybe this was some sort of colonial custom?

When the girl offered her hand Watauga took an uncertain step back and studied it. His eyes glanced up from the hand to her face and back. This he recognized as what he'd seen mothers and siblings do when leading each other places. His cheeks flushed as he slowly realized that she seemed to have accepted him into her home. With a tiny awkward smile the little settlement reached out and put his smaller hand in hers.

"N... Nice to meet'cha..." he said softly. "I-I was told I'm supposed ta caww ya sissy."

She smiled to her new brother. "You may call me that if you wish." The Carolina led him passed the door where they could hear the bosses debating and up the stairs. "Are you familiar with other colonies?" she asked curiously.

After a few turns she opened a door to the bed room he would be staying. "My room is just across the hall. If you have any questions or requests, feel free to ask me at any time." She watched him curiously and couldn't resist another friendly hug. She couldn't believe that now she had a little brother under her wing. "You must be hungry from your travel. Would you like something to eat?"

~Watauga~

"Western Territories of North Carolina"

Watauga was looking around the home in awe. If he'd thought it looked fancy from the outside, then he hadn't been prepared for how nice the palace was on the inside. The boy almost tripped over his own feet a few times while he stared at everything except for which way he was going.

"I seen a few... Dunno 'em much," he muttered. The boy almost stumbled into his new sister when she stopped, but luckily caught himself. Watauga blinked as he looked into the room and his eyes widened. This single room was about the size of the cabin he had been living in with his boss' family. The boy gave her a bewildered expression uncertain what to do with so much space meant just for him. "We ain't sweepin' in 'da same pwace?" he asked. Said cabin had only been one room with the whole family staying together. Watauga had never slept by himself before and felt a little nervous at the thought. The question was barely out of his mouth before he was caught up in another one of her attacks.

This girl was amazingly fast to keep catching him! Were all the colonies this skilled? Even so, North Carolina's attacks still failed to hurt him and he wondered if maybe she needed some lessons on how to follow through when you got someone in an upper body lock. Watauga squirmed awkwardly but stilled and blinked up at his sister curiously when she mentioned food.

The little boy's mouth stretched into a bashful but excited smile. "I'm weaw hungwy," he said.

North Carolina chuckled at Watauga and let go. "No, but if you're not use to a room like this, you can sleep with me for the night, just so you can get familiar with the place. I've lived with Virgina once when I was very small, then South Carolina and I lived together before we separated so I understand if this all feels strange. This Palace was just built a few years ago too." she commented before she realized she was ranting.

She laughed a lightly of his cuteness. "Well I'll see if a maid could bring you something." She stepped out for a second.

"Western Territories of North Carolina"

Watauga watched North Carolina leave the room. He blinked and stared after her for a moment wondering what exactly a maid was. The boy stood still for a total of five or six seconds before he dropped his things and tried to follow after his sister. Watauga wasn't sure why he felt the need to shadow her, but being in this strange house made him feel out of place and he didn't want to be left behind. It was a strange feeling for him since he was so used to being alone yet he couldn't help feeling anxious when North Carolina was out of his sight. For some reason he didn't like the thought of his new sister leaving him even if it was only for a little while.
