Gold Tweaks
  • starting next week, the winnings for arenas will be raised. The new rates:
    1st place: 150,000 gold
    2nd place: 100,000 gold
    3rd place: 75,000 gold
    4th to 10th place: 50,000 gold
  • as an experiment, starting tomorrow afternoon, there will be an "early player bonus" for the first players on any glowing tank. Starting out, the first 5 players on a tank will get a 500g bonus, which the owner will also get. We'll be experimenting with different values throughout the week.

The interns are changing code!
We hired some Dev interns and they just began making changes.

The "Meebo" lab has been upgraded to permanent feature and the "Seasonal Lab" was never updated and not useful so we removed it. The "Footer display" option on this page: http://www.gaiaonline.com/account/preferences/ might need to be adjusted:
"Yes" means the new ("Meebo" footer).
"Old footer" is the one that (sorta) looks like Gaia.

Another Dev intern fixed some of the "report" links at the bottom of Forum Topic pages and some of the common problems for Moderators+Admins. He's working to make life easier for Mods (which means faster responsiveness for users who report).

We've removed about 70k lines of code related to the old GIM. It won't make the site run faster, but it will allow Devs to work faster.

Security Fixes
We've fixed some security holes today. Dumpster Dive should be turned back on in another day or two (pending a security audit).

Interns fixed some broken links in Journals. Please post in my Journal (and be specific) if you find any more broken links in Journals, arenas or anywhere else on the site and we will try to get them worked out.

Interns are hard at work in the Gaia HQ dungeon -- fixing security holes and repairing lots of bugs. Please keep posting in the Bug Reports forum or they might get bored with nothing to fix =P

Hey guys, the event is in full swing, be sure to go check it out. There are 9 possible achievements in this event, though not all of them are claimable today, so be sure to check back and keep participating so you don't miss your chance to claim them!

Starting tomorrow the pies will be swapped out around 13:00 P.D.T. and will continue to be swapped out each business day until we have 6 contestants remaining. (Note: The office will be closed on the fourth.)

Starting Tuesday, we'll begin eliminating npc's, so be sure to round up support for your favorite and keep the pies coming.

Not digging the main event? Try just hanging out in the forum. We've added new emotes for the event! There's also some hidden ones, waiting to be discovered...

3. Profit!
We'll do an announcement on this next week, but: are you hurting for money to buy pies, pies, and more pies? Keep an eye out for ads that look like this:

Clicking on one of these gives you, minimum, 1000 gold (or, in technical terms, ten slices of pie), with a chance to win a bunch of new and rare items.

(Note that if you're a donator, even though you may not see ads normally you'll get to see these, so you'll also have the chance to win the new items).

And, finally, we have determined step 2:

1. Turn on dev alerts.
2. ??? Click on ad that only the Dev Alert Club! knows about!
3. Profit!

Yeah, if there was a club, the password would be something incredibly obtuse, like the first 20 characters of the md5 of the first 1000 digits of the mathematical constant most corresponding to our summer event. UPDATE: Congratulations to Novasurge and Immora for figuring this out first!

Cash Tree Issues

We've been receiving reports from a small number of users that they aren't receiving GCash grants after watching videos through the Cash Tree. We're looking into the issue and will update with a fix as soon as we can. For now, the Cash Tree will stay active as this only seems to be affecting a small number of users with specific browser configurations.

If you're experiencing this problem, please bear with us while we get a fix out.

edit 3:00pm: Rolling a fix out now. Issue should be resolved in a few minutes when it takes effect.

Piehard Event Bug Fix
I just pushed a bug fix for the Piehard event. This fix addresses the following.

Symptoms

  • Buying pies only to have them disappear when you reload the page. (This also means the NPC would not have registered as being fed)
  • Completing the first or all the cards and not getting the item grant link.


Solution
Added a missing check for data validation before executing purchase code. For some users the system would fail to get their game data but proceed as though nothing was wrong. The event page would continue to update normally while our servers had no data to save.

Now when the system fails to get the users data an error message will be returned advising you to refresh the page and try again.

Notes: Those experiencing this bug would have lost no gold. On resetting the page whatever gold you had before the data failed to save is what you will still have.

Still running into problems? Please continue to post bugs in our Bug Reports and Technical Support forum. I or a member of our Administration staff will address them as we can.

Bonus Ad Clarification
The bonus ads show up in both the footer and the main site. If you have the footer off, you'll still have a chance to see the bonus ads (but you get more chances if the footer is on, of course). We've reworded the announcement so that it is hopefully more clear.

Small Wishlist Update
A little somthin' somthin' for users that asked for new wishlist features. We will probably refine the feature a little in the future.

Guilds topic links
Now you can middle-click (or ctrl-click) to open guild topics (from the guild forum-topic listing page) in a new window/tab.

Removing lots of code
Yet again, the interns removed a lot of unused code. If anything breaks, please let us know via the Bug Reports forum.

Arenas: starting next week the fee has been increased to 10k.
