Hey, everyone --

We've been looking at the arena feedback, and one suggestion that keeps coming up is that we should increase the fee in the Avatar Arena to help ensure that there are better entries. Everyone here at Gaia HQ thought that this is something that should be put to the community, so post your comments here and answer our poll!

(Note that you might see this poll repeated in a few places -- this is deliberate, we're asking different cross sections of the community).
10,000 sounds great.

Maybe bump it up to 2k or around there. The fee should be raised, but not by too much or else there'll be chaos.

I think it will help if it is like 2k or 3k because then noobs can enter with their bad avis. Although it could be bad because people could pay all of that and have a lower chance of winning.

Naughty Pants

I'm not sure. The arena used to seem like a great gold sink, but lately the voting seems to not always match the best avatars. I know a lot of people who, even at 1000 gg, prefer to spend the gold elsewhere and stick to avi contests in forums and guilds rather than the arena.

There are far, far too many entries submitted that are little more than store sets, but without shoes.
The entry fee definitely needs to come up some.

Give the users a reason to step up their game a bit.
10,000 sounds like a fine idea.
10k sounds excessive.

I agree that the fee should be raised, but no more than 5k. That would be enough to have people re-think their decision into submitting, at the very least. Any more, and it would seem to imply that the quality of the avatar matches the wealth of the user, which is certainly not the case. Cheap store sets are at the same avatar quality as cluttered MCs/EIs in terms of style, imho.
I'm a little unsure about raising the fee. It should be something that's available to all Gaians. 10k is pretty steep.
If the entry fee was raised to 10k, what would the prize be? The price does need to be raised though. It would atleast make newer people gain some experience around the site before just entering it, and it would also help filter through people who aren't entirely serious about their entries.
raise it to 4000/5000

not too cheap

and not too 'expensive' to drive people away from entering

edit:
since 10k seems a bit much to enter :/ but that's just me

I think everyone should have a chance surprised

definately feel the entry fee should be raised....Not only to increase the quality of the entries, but to encourage all the newer members who think it's an instant road to riches that it's a competition, one that has prizes yes, but you gotta work for them.
I know I kinda had that 'OMG THE AREA WILL MAKE ME RICH I'LL ENTER IN MY USUAL OUTFIT' mindset when I was new...

I think that 10,000 gold would be waaay too much to ask for since most of the prizes given out are 10,000 gold prizes. That would seem a little counterproductive to me, especially with how slim the chances of winning are. With that price jack, the prize money would have to come up too and that would still lead to possibly bad avatars going in and trying to win. Also, with the 4 votes per IP address ban lifted, that would make people want to down and up vote.

Also with a 10,000 gold entry cost, the arena may become something more elitist and something that the new users of Gaia will eventually dislike because of it.

4,000 to 5,000 would be a good price range. That way there wouldn’t have to be a raise in prize money and it would still deter people from entering with something they just stuck together.

I think that if the ban of 4 votes per IP address was reinstated most of the problems with bad avatars being in the top ten would be fixed.

There is also the fact that the spotlight doesn’t circle to highlight the best avatars anymore. It’s completely random and doesn’t change and rotate in a timely manner. People who enter later in the week don’t even get put in the spotlight at all, so if a really terrible entry is submitted last second and doesn’t advertise and only has a few votes that are all five… well, it’ll get a higher score than the one that is much better but is at the subject of the voters more.

Sparkly Shapeshifter

I perfer 10,000 gold, because unlike 1k or 2k gold where you can easily obtain from aquarium, in order to earn 10k gold, you would need to have a period where you save up for the entry, and during that period, the user can reconsider their entry avatar, and ultimately their decision to enter the arena! (Especially since easy entry to arena was the first reason that has caused the flood of non-talented entries into the arena)

Dapper Gekko

5k seems good.

Honestly, 10 votes to an IP address?

Allows us to vote, but also stops the ones like that "Ice Witch" awhile back.

Good god the girl who did that is a biyaatch~ burning_eyes

"I won, envy?"

Seriously? D:<
