Good afternoon, Gaians! This is Cindy Donovinh of Gaia 9 Action News. The water war between Gaia's towns is heating up. Though Durem is in the lead, there's still plenty of time for other teams to catch up. We turn now to Gaia's admins, who have a few brief news items:

Five More Days of Water Battle!

The massive forum water war event will draw to a close on Monday, September 3rd-- but that doesn't mean the end of the Summer Festival! There's still more fun to be had: the balloon-throwing will continue in Towns, and the official end to the event will come on September 7th, after we release Gaia's first animated short!

Summer Festival Media Pack!

All of Gaia is consumed with fanatical team spirit! Since people have become so devoted to their teams, we thought we'd make it a little more convenient to make custom art and signatures to show off your town pride. We've released the Summer Festival Media Pack, a bunch of larger-sized event artwork and team banners! Use 'em however you want (within the Terms of Service, of course wink ).

100K or Bust!

"Most users ever online was 97,606 on Mon Aug 27, 2007 6:26 pm"

On Monday evening, we shattered our previous record for most users online by more than ten thousand. Everyone at Gaia HQ was watching with wonder and disbelief as the number kept climbing and climbing; at the end of the day, we were very close to 100 thousand… a little too close. So close that the number seemed to be mocking us!

"We can do it," said we, swelling with pride and hubris. "Gaians can-- nay, must-- break 100 grand."

Does the number really mean anything? Will we suddenly be the biggest site in the world if we break 100k? Will we all get chocolate cufflinks and solid-gold Ferraris? No! It's just a really huge, cool-looking number. We want to break the record because we can. We want to reach 100 thousand because it's there!

Here's the deal: if we reach 100K users online during this event, everyone will be given a special commemorative item to celebrate their part in Gaian history!

We won't give out the item until the end of the Summer Festival because… uhh… we haven't made it yet. But if you log in on the day when the record is broken, you will get the item (eventually).

So, what can you do to help make history?

  • Hang out on Gaia! Stick around a while, chat with friends, play games, post in the forums, do whatever-- just make sure you log in and stay awhile!

  • Badger your Gaian friends to log in! Got a buddy who hasn't been on in a while? Strongarm them into logging in, joining your team, and throwing a few balloons around.

  • Spread the word! IM your friends (your classy, high-quality friends-- we don't need any ne'er-do-wells) and tell them to sign up. You can also use our invite system, which will give you some free balloons to use in Towns.

  • Most importantly: BELIEVE IN IT! We will break this record! YES!

Update: Let's make a big effort to try to make this happen on Monday, September 3rd. Let's all try to log in at once around 5PM Pacific (8PM Eastern). Cast aside your responsibilities, cancel your hot dates, and hit the site like a tornado of online-ness! Spread the word!

And what will happen if we don't reach 100 grand? You're all banned!!! No, just kidding: absolutely nothing will happen. We'll still be happy about reaching 97 thousand, and we'll look forward to breaking 100 thousand with our next big event. But let's break this record anyway!
