This is mostly for writers. Personally, I'm a virgin but I write sex scenes though I don't know how accurate they are, being that I haven't had any beta reads on those scenes (unless you count my fanfictions).

So what do you guys think?
Can someone who's never killed a person write an accurate murder scene?
I think it's possible, though you should do some research that you might not feel too happy about doing. Make sure you've got the mechanics right, then talk to people to find out things like what feels good, what they think about during sex, and so on. Don't trust other peoples' sex stories as reliable sources, since many of them are as inexperienced as you or are writing ideally, not realistically.

The NaNoWriMo erotic fiction forum is a good resource, and if you have any questions you're embarrassed to ask anywhere else, feel free to PM me. x3

It is entirely possible, as long as you go into the right details and keep it within the realm of "thats possible." Also, reading "erotic" literature from more experienced writers can help greatly.
Let's just say that there are plenty of non-virgins who also can't write accurate sex scenes. In fact, you might go so far as to say that the entire purpose of porn is not to be accurate.
You can make the whole thing completely fiction, meaning, a surprising number of tentacles meaning to rape your character's a** or other OR normal sex. You should have imagination, though. And you should have facts to base your writings.
Thanks for the responses! I guess imagination really is the key sweatdrop 'course, can't help but get curious of what the real thing is like LOL! redface As far as my friends say, you gotta enjoy the imagination before hard reality sets in, though I could never understand what they meant by that stare

Since having my first serious relationship I have understood more about love and when I write I include emotion and small movement.

I'm not a virgin but I never tend to write about sex but kind of hint that it is going on, but not describe it in great detail. But I believe that you have to have some experience to understand it fully.

Like somebody said before, can you write a murder scene without murdering anybody? I suppose you write what you would do in real life.
I think with anything you're writing, you need to know enough about what you're talking about to write accurately about it, and that includes sex. Not being a virgin probably helps, but it is possible to still know loads about sex and be a virgin.

Probably helps? There's no probably about it. razz But like Axioma said, even not being a virgin doesn't automatically mean you can write sex very well. A great deal of it is writing skill and imagination. Of course, depending on your libido, you can draw on and extrapolate from experience with masturbation to approximate what sex would be like, and while it won't always be entirely accurate, most people are not going to notice, since it's only the most intimate details (mainly the sensations of climax in/on, mouth and tongue on skin, etc.) that would be a little lacking. Even these details, though, can be fleshed out if you have a few friends who are tolerant enough of probing questions to give you that sort of information. (This is something I'm well blessed with, since one of my erotica projects is first person as a woman, but not being a woman, I'd be unable to effectively write certain elements of the story. A large portion of my women friends have been good enough to put up with some (sometimes) very probing questions so I could get that information in order to write the character more realistically.)

xd Couldn't agree more. Erotica is more about using your imagination and deciding what the most fantastic sex ever would be like rather than writing about something you actually know.

It probably helps to have had it. Seen enough people write horridly wrong accounts of how it works to have full faith in that. *cough*chatterbox*cough* But that's me. To be honest I try to avoid the entire category as I have no desire to write that kind of thing to begin with. I just find it cheap.
Haha.

I'm a virgin, but I still laugh my a** off when books have bad romantic scenes.

The sad thing is, those authors are adults, and some of them are married. They know what sex is like. And even they can't write it.

I don't think there's such a thing as a good sex scene.

Just try not to explain it a lot; people's imaginations can make things up. You don't have to go into graphic detail with everything. Personally, it's just hilarious when authors do that.

I don't think you're going for sex-as-comedy.
Just because someone is a virgin doesn't mean the person can't imagine something sexual.
I was writing erotica before I had sex. And it was accurate. Watch porn. Talk to people who do have sex. Run it by someone who can tell you what wouldn't work.
A prime example is the yaoi writers and having one character just shove his p***s in the other one's a**. And they are happy.
No. Just no. Do you know how much that would hurt them both?

Anyway, real, thorough research is as good as experience when it comes to fiction. Also, masturbate. The more you understand about your body and sexual response, the more you'll be able to express those feelings in your writing. Be creative. Really explore. If you're going to write about vaginal penetration, get yourself a toy (or produce if you're under 18 ) and find out what it feels like. Ask a guy friend what it feels like to penetrate. Try and act things out on your own too to make sure your desciptions don't sound like someone's arm should be breaking. If you're going to write about a**l, try it. (You may want to do a little reading first though. And make sure you put a condom on toys and produce to be safe.)

Yeah, it may be a bit TMI, but hey, you gotta walk the walk. pirate

I can imagine anything. Will it be make sense or be enjoyable for anyone else to read? Chances are, without knowing what you're talking about, no.
