Let's play a game. I'll start off by giving a cliche, something that's been done to death, or even just a genre convention.

The next person will give us a twist and a way to make it not suck, and another cliche.

Note that these cliches can be anything from "The princess who doesn't want to be" to "The blood ran crimson from her wrists"-- i.e. descriptive or plot conventions/cliches. Likewise, the person who responds can write some sentences or paragraphs or just explain how they'd handle it.

The hero is a member of a non-human sentient species that is vastly polygamous; there is only one male for every so many hundred (or so many thousand) females, so all individuals within a given community have the same alpha-male father. Making a nemesis out of the alpha-male makes enemies out of all his other children as well, setting the hero against impossible odds and forcing him into exile.

The hero is a vampire who's in love with a mortal.

Race is not mentioned in connection with their profession, but before hand when appearance and personality are described. Professions are named politically correct, such as mercenary, scientist, and criminal.

The fighter is a nymphomaniac elf, the magic user is a female dwarf and very messy in her spells, and the theif is a brightly colored Forgotten Realms creature that draws too much attention.

The girl with raven-black hair perched on the ledge overlooking the small village and smirked; just enough to show her pearly white fangs.

"Elements" are the fantasy world's terms for states of matter -- there are solid dragons, liquid dragons, gas dragons, and on rare occasion, plasma dragons.

Gas dragons, then, become a major threat to the world.
