Welcome to Gaia! ::

Tipsy Kitten

So basically on every single page I go to my Avatar doesn't load and I get the error message that Shockwave Flash has crashed. This doesn't happen on any other website, so I'm not really sure what to do. If anyone has any tips for helping that would be very much appreciated!

Same, I saw something a friend of mine had posted on Facebook this morning regarding flash and they had said it might be best to uninstall or disable Adobe Flash...I just went back and actually read the article they posted:

Uh-oh!

My Google Chrome automatically blocked it when I opened Gaia and logged in, I didn't have to do anything.

It is super annoying not being able to see some features on the site though.
i know that google chrome is discontinuing the npapi plugin which may be part of the problem and switching to the ppapi plugin but beyond that i dont the effects this will have when its completely removed
have you tried a different browser like firefox or explorer to see if thats the issue?

Adobe has updated its Flash software to fix a security hole, which was made public only after data was stolen from an online surveillance company.
Italian firm Hacking Team sells spying software to intelligence agencies around the world.
On Sunday, private data stolen from the company was posted online, indicating it knew about a serious flaw in Flash, but had not told Adobe.
One security blog said the bug had been "immediately weaponised" by attackers.
"This is one of the fastest documented cases of an immediate weaponisation in the wild, possibly thanks to the detailed instructions left by the Hacking Team," wrote Jerome Segura from Malwarebytes.
'Beautiful bug'
Details of the software flaw were among 400GB of stolen data that was posted online.
In the data, Hacking Team described the flaw as "the most beautiful Flash bug for the last four years".
Security software company Trend Micro said the flaw had been included in at least three "exploit kits" - collections of computer code and tools that can help attackers spread malicious software.
"When you know the severity of a flaw, there's a duty to disclose it to the software vendor," said Bharat Mistry, cybersecurity expert at Trend Micro.
"Maybe they saw this as an avenue they could use for their own purposes and wanted to keep it under wraps.
"But Flash has a big presence on the web. There is mass potential for this bug to be exploited by criminals."
Adobe acknowledged the bug could "cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system".
It said the flaw affected Flash 18.0.0.194 and earlier versions for Windows, Macintosh and Linux.
The company released an update to Flash on Wednesday and said it recommended people install it "within 72 hours".

This is happening to me too this morning. This seems to be a sudden major incompatibility glitch on Gaia's part. They probably pushed an update to the flash system.

It shouldn't be on our end. For example, I haven't updated flash, and I haven't updated Chrome. I haven't updated my OS. There is no reason it should suddenly be crashing like crazy :/ we need to report this to the bug report forum.

I'd like to note that that the Flash zero-day security bug has to do with hi-jacking and potentially data theft, it also only affects a single particular Flash version, 18.0.0.194 and has already been patched in an update. If you don't get the automatic update you can manually update to 18.0.0.204 by going to Adobe's Flash page and downloading it.

Also Malwarebytes, for anyone who uses it, already blocks this exploit.

The biggest way to be attacked by this is from Flash-based ads, if you have Adblock Plus, you're fairly well off already.

Bloodthirsty Unicorn

Updating doesn't fix the issue for me, or at least the issue of flash keeps crashing.

Geared Spirit

Flash plugin remained stable in Internet Explorer 11 with Shockwave Flash 15.0.0.189
Flash plugin crashes in Chrome 43 with Shockwave Flash 18.0 r0 whenever animated item is equipped
Flash plugin crashes in Firefox 39 with Shockwave Flash 18.0.0.203 whenever animated item is equipped

Seems that it is an issue with the Shockwave Flash 18 plugin.

I'm having the same problem. This has never happened before today.

I have Google Chrome.

EDIT:

I'm not having this problem at all on Safari or Opera.

And on Foxfire, I get an error message that says, "Foxfire has blocked the outdated plugin, 'Adobe Flash,' on www.gaiaonline.com." The avatars don't load at all.

Relentless Glitch

Probably good to turn off animations until this issue is resolved with Flash.

It's happening to me too. =(

Getting the same message here on Google Chrome... It only happens on Gaia and it seems like some avi's and sig images aren't showing after the error anymore (I just get the black & white puzzle piece images)... Glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue then... I haven't bin updating anything as far as I know lately and this never happened to me until now... So maybe Gaia is having issues with something that causes to crash shockwave flash? I guess the best thing to do for now is to just wait it out and see if anything else happens... cat_sweatdrop

Edit: Just turned off showing avi animations and aquariums in sigs... Didn't get the error anymore after that...

updating did not fix the issue i did update it and its still happening but only on chrome so im still thinking it may have something to do with the discontinuation of that plugin on chrome
