It's like they are punishing us. Making us "buy" GC to there expensive so we get the better items. Well, i'm sick of it. I've been the odd one out for quite some time, most of m friends on gaia have heaps of GC items, but i think they at least should be for gold!

And the prices in GC. Seriously. almost 450 GC for a good item. How much is that in real life money?! who would want to spend there money on virtual items?! The only thing i like about this game money wise is that you don't need to buy a member ship.

And can we sign this??? if so signed.

How much longer until we get 1,000 do you think?

You know, I don't think I've mentioned it in here, but I really like that Switchem game.
I think it uses GC fairly and the gold rewards seem balanced for the amount of work you're putting in.
I wish they would consider making this a permanent game on Gaia rather than just an event-related one.

That is the problem though. The best form of advertising, as anyone in advertising will tell you, is word of mouth. Nothing else comes close. Right now the community is getting frustrated and many are leaving. The amount of new people coming in do not equal people who have invested years into the site. As such they are less likely to spend money right away then someone who has been here a while who wants to invest. Furthermore, there is a negative backlash effect in advertising where public opinion or even simply over-advertising leads to a negative view of the company and a decision to never buy their product because they are so pushy. All of this swirls together to lead to very poor long term strategy. You have your target audience leaving and no longer investing, you have your new audience slowly shrinking because of bad word of mouth advertising, and those that do come are barraged by adds right off the bat, leading to possible negative reactions. Beyond even all that, you have a marketplace here that is unstable, so things that were sound investments before (the monthly items) are now less stable for money and more likely to be passed up, and think about what Flinn's Booties have done to player confidence in the market of the site itself? It is less worth it to buy a bundle now then it was because of all the inflation.

Even a novice in economics and advertising like me can see the long term consequences as nothing but trouble. Though, that isn't too surprising considering who is in charge and their previous habits with such a company.

Finally, I will ask a question. Look at how the company has been acting the last few months. How they have jacked up prices and spammed flinn booties so often, in spite of the problems they cause. Look at the various flash "sales" every day now. Does that not seem like the actions of someone desperate for cash? Does that not resemble the actions of a sleazy used car salesman at a dealership that is going under? Does that not seem just a little desperate when compared to months prior? I do not think they are making as much money as they once have else they would not act so rashly, but that is my view I guess.
They found an item that sells really well. They're going to keep releasing it.
In their most recent announcement, staff admitted Gaia was basically in the black last quarter, but now they're doing better than ever.

And as for your new users won't buy, they most definitely will. It's the only way to get items these days, and if they're joining the site, they're going to want to take part in its biggest feature: avatar dress up.

Let's just agree to disagree, though. I don't want to go back and forth on this and pull the thread off topic.

You actually both have a point here.

from love to pain is most likely correct on the assumption that new users will more likely buy CS items(provided they survive the sticker-shock in the Cash Shop) in order to participate in one of the biggest features of Gaia Online, which is dressing up avatars (imo, forums are the primary feature of the site, but that's another argument).

However, Runic Knight's also correct that a major factor for the survival of sites like Gaia Online is "word of mouth". That 'word of mouth' comes from the very same userbase that has been growing more and more dissatisfied with the way things are being run. I've chatted with several fellow Gaians off-site who have compared Gaia Online's tactics to those of EA, and would never recommend it to their friends in the site's current state.

Some newbies might be willing to shell out obscene amounts of money for pixelated items/more Gaia Cash, perhaps a percentage of those same newbies might (predictably) recommend it to their friends. However, the combined negative effects of word mouth and sticker-shock from the prices in the Cash Shop will probably have an impact on whether newbies stick around or move to greener pastures before the end of the next financial quarter.

As the Zen Master says, "We'll see."

800 already? It seems we were just breaking 600. At least we are gaining momentum now. emotion_dowant
I have to admit I recently spent quite a sum of money on purchasing GC, however, I still dislike the conversion of cash to GC. Especially when the price of items in the GC are raising like yeast in water. Who in the right mind will purchase a $500 shield for an event this is soon to end? I know there are some consumers out there who are willing...It just boils my blood that the company is doing well but becomes blinded with "greed" and tests the limits of their consumers.
It still upsets me quite sometime ago there was the blood amulet item and blood gem; many people complained that it's unfair that they have to buy them item in order to get in to the new event. In my perspective it was quite fair if those people were willing to pay in order to enter a new add-on like any other game one would buy for their game station. Yet, they opened it later on to the public almost a year later and the items are considered "worthless." As expected many people left. They were willing to sacrifice the same people who were willing to pay real money in order to satisfy the other population who possibly didnt want to buy or simply couldnt afford.
I guess majority does rule in any type of society.

I wish you guys luck.

I actually like the switchem game too, mainly because I can sit there and play it for a short time for some gold while I listen to music or something and then just go and do something else and come back when I feel like it. Oh and I'm surprised it doesn't have 1,000 yet. Our Revolution: Gaia guild has at least that many members, I'm surprised they haven't all signed it yet. Maybe I'll see if we can get a sticky for petitions or something to spread the word.

Signed. I joined gaia in 08', I remember the rally was my hangout spot, you have the wheel to spin everyday for a small prize of gold or a car part wink , and a great group of people to meet each time.I was never concerned about getting rich. Making booty grab was the first of many mistakes gaia has made. getting 100k in 45 minutes was an absurd amount of gold at the time for me because I could never get GC. Then came zOMG, still the reason I come back on this site, it WAS awesome. I was with the first group of people to finish that game. All of the servers would be full and getting into a crew didn't take years like it does now. And getting the gold took some work. I noticed that gaia increased the gold/orb/ring drop rates tenfold making it incredibly easy to get to 10Cl and above. .But it seems like since there are easier ways to get gold now zOMG is fading just like gaia's sense of community.I don't even want to talk about how bad the Exhange forum is now, yikes! I can't afford anything because of this inflation. It saddens me to think that if the new CEO doesn't make some drastic changes that I will be leaving this site after so many years… Hope gaia can get their act together...

Aged Browser

I already said my piece on p.167, but I'll throw out one more bit:

I had previously only suspected they didn't pay attention to what didn't make money--but apparently the entire zOMG! staff, coder and artist and coordinator, was fired. You know another company that fires the entire staff of an active, popular project for short-term financial reasons, right?

BAIN CAPITAL.

Gaia is being leveraged to oblivion. Who would do this to the once-fastest-growing, and once-biggest, forum of the Western Hemisphere? WHO?

My only business here now will be seeing how this thread progresses and hoping an official reply is made--and that more awareness and bright ideas are brought to light for all and sundry.

I can't remember the last time I spent GC on this site. It's probably more than half a year ago.

Add me on the list; I'm in.

Gekko

I sign, it's sad how Gaia is all about money now and has pretty much forgotten about its users & the community. I miss the old days when 10$ Gc actually meant you were getting your money's worth, or when they actually had real merchandise.

First popup I got today was one for a flash sale on Flynns arse, now I just got one for witches grand gala...for $20.
Thanks Gaia, thanks for shoving a wishlist item in my face that you're only selling for $20 freaking dollars because Flynns stinky infected a** inflated it all to hell. Screw you gaia, I'm buying witch's regal revelry, I like it better anyway emotion_donotwant

Do signatures in this topic get included in the other? If not, you might want to make it stand out in the OP that the petition is located somewhere else. I check on this topic often and see people signing here instead of over in the petition topic.

Lightbringer

I've never really paid attention to the silliness that goes on with Gaia Cash, but was it normal for singular items (with not many poses I might add) to be hitting $20 and such? It seems like robbery for what you're getting in return.

I'm very sorry to say that I have been paying out of pocket for items I wanted, but now I am to the point where I am really hating this site, and how it allows its Mods to act however they see fit and to allow bullies to be "victims".

I've been trying to get a certain item that I sold a while back, but thanks to Flynn's v****a, which I regret buying bundles of, it has skyrocketed in price, and I am done supporting that.
