This is not the Gaia I signed up to be a part of years ago.
This is an out of control, money-hungry piece of crap that doesn't care about the people who can't afford to drop real money on this site.

I cant even explain how perfectly you captured my feelings. 6 years ago, I started on here because it was an awesome social site with a dress up/expression aspect that was totally adorable, and most of the stuff was free. I was also 14/15. I'm now almost 21 and I'm STILL broke as hell.

That's crap. Gaia Cash wasn't created until 2007. Before that the site relied on the Monthlies, which used to be the donation items. Now they're just unexciting Cash shop items that come out once a month, along with all the CI's they're continuously pumping out. Seems like everything was doing pretty well because the site was up for a good four years before Gaia Cash was introduced.
I'm sure this site is doing well financially, what with people actually spending $500 on SD custom dolls and the 500 million ads they have everywhere. Yeah, so no. The cash is going directly into the admin's pockets.

Know what event I had a blast with? Modmas. I don't even remember how much gold people could win, but it's not like it was easy to do. People all gathered and talked in the forums and even the moderators joined in. That was such a nice event, because it encouraged everyone to get together and whatnot. I also had fun with the Bootygrab that was special for Christmas.
Ugh, everything's become so impersonal now.

I was not about to try and find the original post. xD
But them saying, "Oh they're keeping the site alive" is a total lie. I really doubt this site is having really any financial struggles.
Like others have said, they're turning into this place into a business as opposed to a community. Rule number one? Respect and acknowledge what the consumers are saying, and how they feel. I work at a car dealership. I know this s**t. While it drives me crazy that everyone at the store acts like the customer's s**t doesn't stink, it's what's bringing them back and what's bringing in other people.
To us, even though we're spending good sums of money towards this place, what they're basically is saying, "******** you, deal with it."
It's like when cars have recalls, and if the car companies said, "It's your car, it's your problem now!"

There's no freedom of speech on Gaia. You signed that away when you agreed to the Terms of Service.

But I'd be genuinely surprised if people were being banned just for mentioning him. More than likely, if any such bans are being handed out, it is a result of users who are either harassing him or posting information that really shouldn't be spread around.

EDIT: Since the poster above me posted something similar, I'll clarify. It's not a case of tyranny. The simple fact of the matter is that while Freedom of Speech is a noble ideal, there's speech that really isn't conducive to a healthy environment for either users or staff and Gaia has its own Terms of Service to protect against that form of speech.

I was under the impression that AtA was shut down due to volume, and is due to be replaced by a new system to handle that volume?

Oh, I doubt it. There's plenty of respectful comments and criticism that isn't getting people banned. The problem is that a majority of the "anti" are getting very worked up, and respectful flies out the door.
