I honestly think that Gaia has forgotten what microtransactions are.

"A three pose item for thirty Gaia Cash? Are you mad? We'll have to cancel Friday Nerf Wars indefinitely! Make it thirty THOUSAND GC, and we'll be able to keep the Nerf Wars and give everyone free pizza for the Nerf Wars too!"

Gaia just needs to generate a larger volume of content and involve microtransactions, instead of asking for the common joe to give up a week's pay (or MORE) for an item with handful of poses. Spending about five to twenty dollars a month is much more palatable to folks who rely on message boards for much of their entertainment than the situation as it is now, especially if they feel they're getting a lot for what they pay.

If I'm going to give you my money, make me feel like I've gotten something of value, damn it.

I know people keep leaving but, aren't the friends you've made here and on different threads/guilds worth staying for? Or is EVERYONE leaving too???

I will not let the shite Gaia has brought down on us force me out. No way will they take the friendships I have on here away from me too.

You realize you're appropriating the Occupy movement for something ridiculous. You're basically comparing the social and economic inequality that severely impacts a great number of people in society to "wah they keep releasing items on this website for cash prices and it angers me".

It may be ridiculous and dramatic, but what else is working anymore?
Gaia is it's own little world with thousands of members. It should be a community-based site, not an economy-based one.

Those of us who can't afford it aren't having fun here anymore. Why even keep Gaia alive if it's not fun for the majority of its members?

With you there. I've been here since 'o7, steadily buying MCs when I can afford to in order to support the site as it has been my stress reliever since I was a kid, but god damn Gaia! I'M NOT MADE OF MONEY! As you said in another post, it's difficult to even afford rent. Canada (where I live) is in year one of an eight year recession, and this online community, the place I would normally go to to forget about money problems and so on, is heckling me to spend money more than it ever has or is required to.

I'd hate to see this site go the way of Rogers Wireless and become a heartless corporate monster that keeps pinching money out of its customers without remorse... Yes, I'm using them as a comparative tool because they are the worst and Gaia is moving in that direction. I understand that in order for the site to be a worthwhile venture for shareholders and the business proprietors alike, it has to be able to generate reasonable profit, you can't expect them to work their arses off for a business that doesn't grow its own feet, but they are not doing it right by their loyal customers. Hell, they aren't even doing right by their original staff and original vision for this community. It really is just disrespectful to us, as customers to this website our constructive criticism should be recognized openly and ACTUALLY dealt with, considering without us, this site really would be dead. It's such a shame to see this happen to a site that is unique especially for its community, but where will the monetary abuse end?

All that aside, from love to pain, I'd suggest putting up links to Admin's (albeit, quite lame) attempts to recognize yours, and other Gaians threads regarding this topic. I think I briefly read through one of their announcements about all this from a few days ago. If you're going to supply the community with your point of view, please also provide us with Gaia's responses heart

My friends quit back in 2007 or earlier. If any of my friends were still active then I'd probably stay, but since I have no ties to the site aside from one NPC right now, I could leave at any time.

I don't want to leave because of the s**t Gaia is pulling, but this site is nothing more than a headache for me now, and I don't need any more headaches.

A LOT of people have left to go to Solia. For the most part, the users are cool there and the admins are pretty great. I was banned unfairly/accidentally, I messaged one of the main admins and they reopened my account about a day or two later.
I've stuck around because I've put so much time and effort into my avatar, my friends, my house, etc. Also because I want to see if things'll get better.

You know what everyone should do? Just sell all the rare items for low prices. We put value into the items on here.
If we sell everything for a lower price, couldn't we by default 'fix' the economy?

I never brought GC and don't intend to start now despite having regular income, why should I with their current money grabbing? I spend most of my time on Menewsha these days anyway, but occasionally check back here for events and such.

Sadly if they keep this up I don't think there will be that to check in on soon enough

What lacking in this website and other people is a little word called 'dialogue'.
If the people who lead this place didn't follow the "we are like this, deal with it or get out" mentality, we wouldn't be in the situation we are now.

I've only really ever been a lurker on this site but, I always come back to see the events, new items,crazy stories, & of course the forums. Now a days tho, I find it harder to come back or care. The gold system has always (to me) been a little broken. Now with he GC items the market is crazy. How's a reg user with no money supposta get ANY of these items they're constantly flashing around and giving announcements for??? How much gold can they really reasonably get?
Gold use to be insanely hard to get & prices were High. Now Gold is a slight easier to get & prices have gone Hyper-inflationary...

I guess by gaia's standards I am considered a tightwad. I don't buy gaia cash and definitely have now plans too while they are charging $100, $300 for pixels and calling it a "huge sale". This only make everything else worse. I love booty grab an the fish, but can't afford to buy any more cash fish because mp price tripled within a week or two. If it gets any worse (Gaia and mp), I may have to leave again and never come back.
As for suggestions/ideas, in my opinion, Gaia can make a whole lot more money on great, cheap GC items than the current overly price items. I'm more welling to spend $20 on 10 items than just one item.

I cant even explain how perfectly you captured my feelings. 6 years ago, I started on here because it was an awesome social site with a dress up/expression aspect that was totally adorable, and most of the stuff was free. I was also 14/15. I'm now almost 21 and I'm STILL broke as hell.
