As you may or may not know Gaia interactive restarted the convention tour.
Dj Hellsing was back! (apparently he didn't completely leave in the first place) Yup that's right DJ.
A lot was discussed during this panel however the most interesting thing was that they actively took feedback and made notes.

It was a wonderful pannel and I was beyond excited to log into Gaia today.
So feedback Awesome pannel please keep doing them.

maybe? it's sort of hard to tell these days if anything that looks hopeful actually...is.

until feedback is actually being utilized in a way we can see, I'm going to have a hard time believing any actual active feedback seeking took place. unfortunately notes don't mean much unless they're being considered and worked on by someone capable of changing things on here.

it's really cool that hellsing's made a return though.

That doesn't mean much these days though. Back then a lot of feedback from this forum also made it through and got recognized.

Now we have millions of threads begging them for the same things over and over without an ounce of change.

Well I said when they axed HOC dev that people should have paid more attention and cared. That they should have stuck up for the smaller sections of the community no one cared.

I couldn't find a vid of the panel online so I thought I'd ask. Did anyone ask about the rampant inflation or any of the serious problems currently plaguing the site?

Gold Gens will stop when people stop buying. (Sorry for that news.)
When the gold becomes worthless. (already has) Treat things like a bloody siege. Invest in items not gold.

DJ addressed the inflation.

This is not a direct quote.
He said that inflation in the market was inevitable. (This is indeed true) He did say that Gaia has someone on staff who is working to deal with the inflation and the rising need for better payouts. However he has no idea how, when, or in what matter that will be dealt with.

Conclusions that have come from discussion from DJ personally before and after the panel.
DJ stated and it was backed by other staff members that people are not quitting Gaia. Or at least if they are the attrition rate has not slipped into negatives. Meaning the site is still expanding and growing in User Base. DJ and Lanzer both have commented in the past that non gold shop items are supposed to be exclusive. While the avatars play a huge part of the community and market they aren't the sole concern of the site. The site has the forums, games, towns and everything else it does to deal with. This place is a huge expenditure and nothing ever works as well as it should. At least not until they fix it. Then the community moves on to complain about something else.

However at the end of the day this site is a business. It has to turn a profit or the artists who make this stuff can't make a living. Gaia employes about 30 plus people for Gaia Online alone. if we assume that the average wage is $20/hr. (Which is not a great living wage in California) It costs about 1.5 million in staff wages to run this site. Figure another 1.5 million for everything from rent, bills, ect.

That's 3 mil just to keep this site operational. That leaves no money for expansion and other ventures. Sadly some things have to be sacrificed in order to keep this rolling.

Last but not least if you can't afford Cash do offers. 5ads a day can get you from 5-25 Gcash. If you can't do this I am really sorry but I don't know how to help you.

Orange are extrapolations I have made based on what they have said. They are not concrete and finite. Blue comes from me.

Super, thankyou.

To get back on subject: wouldn't call it a ray of hope yet, but I'm glad the convention going is back...even if I'll never go to one, eh... and that Gaia is communicating through those again.

I think it's a ray of hope..... because if Gaia was really as dead as this SF makes it sound they wouldn't be going anywhere near the fans.

The reason people keep buying Gold Gens is because they keep offering them. I understand they're probably a huge money-maker for Gaia, but the vast majority of us think it's all getting ridiculous. I kind of wish they'd just take one for the team. I mean, they literally offered a 100pk of Make it Pour for 15 bucks. That's gonna knock us all under the "poverty line" and cause an even BIGGER problem. (Is it possible to hyper-hyper-inflate?)

Nope.. I see no ray of hope if they refuse to stop selling gold generators or at least stop raising the bar on how much you can win from gold generators. They can say that avatars and the market aren't the only concern for the site, but when that's the only source of income besides advertising, it's hard to underplay it's importance.

Forums, games, and towns don't bring in revenue. In fact, games were added to give a fun way to earn gold to buy items for avatars and towns was added to give you something to do with those avatars. Any games that became more than that were scrapped. Avatar items are added every single day while updates for other things come in a trickle. Avatars might as well be the sole concern of the site.
