One of the greatest joys in my life was when I received my Aunts Lovebird which she didn't love anymore, when I recived Martini He was about a year old and was Handfed.. She had payed 60$ for him and yet just handed him over for nothing.

When I got him his wings were clipped and he was terrified of my hand.. however after a very long time of love and patience he began to trust and love me.

That was when I was 13 and I am 21 now, to this day Martini remains a constant and loving companion and is teaching our newest edition Milo how to behave .

Milo's start was less happier than Martini's He was bought from some woman off of Craigs list who didn't seem to have the faintest idea on how to raise a lovebird.


He was NOT Handfed so he would bite and snap and draw blood, and was kept in a cage with over 20 other birds.... His mother was a normal peachface Like Martini, however his father was a yellow peachface. Milo is very lovely pastel shades..but under the pretty feathers lay a terrified little baby.


It is still a work in progress even two years later for Milo.. He is no longer a biter.. Martini corrected that habit rather quickly of his, whenever Milo would bite me Martini came over and bit his foot and pushed him to tell him 'NO"

Milo no longer bites to draw blood, He is terrified of my hands still but is gradually getting better, and will perch on my shoulders, pull my bra strap, and snuggle in my hair.



This thread isn't really for the care and feeding of your Lovebirds, but rather how I take care of mine and stories of my two boys and what they put me through =3

The birds housing

They both have two nice sized Cages that get cleaned once a week and the water and food changed regularly, they have two perches a piece, and a little swing in which they tend to fight over if they have to share a cage for cleaning.


I am planning to stick them in one BIG cage together eventully to cut back on the cleaning and the hassle, and also give them more room

Overall I find lovebirds to be exceptionally healthy, Martini only got sick once and that's because My brother gave her water while our system was infected with Ecoli ... 60$ later he was right as rain! Though the tell tale signs of a sick Lovebird are obvious.

1: They Puff up all the time

2: They stay on the bottom of the cage.

3: They keep their eyes shut and feel very warm


These were the signs that let me know Martini was ill, and if I hadn't noticed them he would have been long gone.

Alright over the years I have manged to learn my birds body languages and their distinct personalities, infact I am so confident of how well I know my babies I could pick them out from a whole flock of Lovebirds.


Martini is CRAFTY, He will bang the bowl of his cage up and down that is empty till it is filled with either food or water. He can open his cage doors , and manage to slip out from under closed bedroom doors.

He loves splashing around in the sink, but when he's done and is wet wants to get in my shirt and nestle between my boobs and leach my body heat. He will brutally divebomb anyone that comes into my room if he's out, not really caring for anyone except me.

He is an attention hog, will pull phones away from my ear, s**t in my coffee for attention, and get right on my face till I snuggle him .___. He literally thinks he is my boyfriend.


Milo however is shy and is mainly seeking Martini's approval, his chirp is much higher and shriller than Martini's He will snuggle but only for a bit of time, and likes to grab and tear anything up that he doesnt reconize, and can spend hours gayfully swinging back and forth on his lil swing.

For some reason my birds are terrified of the dark, when the lights go out and their out flying around they find me and CLING to me, hiding in every little nook and groove in my body that they can find .___.

I noticed they also do several attention grabbing habits if I do not pay them the utmost dedicated attention when they are out of their cages..

1: They will land on my desk and work together to knock EVERYTHING off of it, and chirp when their done to let me know they finished helping me clean.___.

2: They will perch ontop of my laptop and bend their heads down to watch what I am doing on the screen.

3: Perch on my head and slowly twist and tangle their feet in my hair and then jump up just enough to PULL It, .___________.

Martini is a bit more attention seeking than Milo, several months ago I sat my cup of coffee down by my laptop and let them out to fly around my room, While I busly typed a rp reply Martini landed ontop of the laptop and chirped moving to nibble my nose. I gently shooed him away because I was busy... He then landed on my ear and nibbled it a bit firmly and chirped right in my ear.. so I shooed him..

He then lands on my coffee and chirps.. I ignore him, he finally does a loud shrill chirp so I turn to look.. and he has pooped in my coffee with the smuggest little "Going to pay attention to me now?" Look on his face...

My bird is a lil s**t .____.
