As you may already know - as it has come to the attention of many - Gaia seems to no longer pay mind to the opinion of the members who have brought them to where they are. Countless protests are made, negative feedback in the OMGaia! threads and much more - and still, it seems as though they are simply ignoring everyone.

There are countless issues that need to be attended to, yet they are overlooked. It seems that, nowadays Gaia is simply going for making an easy dime in place of entertaining the members that they use to care for. Many Gaians are now ashamed to be a part of this once loved and adored community.

This is a thread to show just how much we as Gaians do care and how much we want our opinions to be heard. As well, this will be a place to give Gaia ideas about how we want Gaia to be, about what we think needs tending to and all the other things that we really do need to be heard.

We bet you've never told your mother that you would be stripping for a cause one day, but - today you can! The simplest way to show your support is to strip your avatar down to their undies [sorry, no nudists allowed, we still have to comply with ToS XD] for the cause.

The idea for this came from a discussion between the founders of The Nekkid Protest while in a feedback thread. Someone stated that Gaia is s falling down the tubes and depending on sponsors, advertisements and the cash shop because they are spending all of their money to buy time in which to make us new items. The same person also stated that we could most likely get back a better community if we all striped down to our undies - at which point our main founder responded that she would gladly strip down to her skimpies if it meant bettering Gaia.

So, as a way to get the attention of Gaia and tell them that we have a bigger need for our community to be improved - as it was in the old days where items were only released once a month or so - at the sake of losing so many item releases and such.

But, mostly, it is to show all of Gaia that we do have an opinion - and that we want it to matter! So, we're stripping down to our bare undies to show them just how badly Gaia needs this attention and just how far we are willing to go.

Two other great ways to show your support are to post this thread's banner anywhere that you think it may be seen or to put We Have Had Enough as your top friend so that others can see and add us. Remember, we are only as strong as our supporters.

By signing this petition, you are telling gaia that you want the attention back on the members and what they want - telling them that you want the opinions of the members to be paid attention to. Even if it is by polls or feedback threads, we want what we say to be looked over and put into whatever the site does. It states that you want the site to be improved and not just beautified, as if has been as of late.

We all know that there are issues that the members want to address, and here is a list of quite a few of them.

The Fun Factor. Gaia use to be a place to go and spend time, where you could waste hours away and not even think of boredom - the role playing community was flourishing, chatterbox wasn't filled with spamming noobs, even the games were more fun and glitch free. The guilds were kept up with and you could actually earn money by selling your items in marketplace. Now, after doing your dailies, you really only have the option of going onto zomg or playing booty grab. It seems that gaia has began to focus more and more on their item releases and less time on their members and making spending time on Gaia fun. Gaia has reached a new low point - it is boring.

Glitches. As everyone may have realized, as these updates continue to get 'better,' the glitches are only getting worse. While playing games, even those with high speed connections can realize that they mysteriously lose connection somethings, yet their internet connection does not falter. In marketplace, it will tell you that your password is not correct or that a market listing is 'full' or no longer available when you try to buy it, but it will still show as available to be bought. When logging in, you may find that you are taken to a page that says your password is incorrect when you have it programmed into your computer or it may even say that you never entered a password in the first place. A few months back, an announcement had a glitch and members were allowed to post on it - then got a warning even if they were posting to tell members it was a mistake and to stop responding to it. Really, Gaia - focus on the glitches you have before anything else... You've been fixing them since Gaia started, yet they are still apparently there, as far as we all can see.

Aquariums. In the beginning, the idea of an aquarium was a simply amazing one, but it has turned into yet another way for Gaia to hassle real money out of their members. And worse of all... These fish that you can spend between between a dollar to seven fifty for will die. I'm sorry... Did we hear that correctly? We are expected to spend outrageous amounts of money on fish, or pixels I should say, that we have to go a specific web page to see and they have an expiration date?! As well, the idea of the overseer is what drew most members to the aquarium - the ideal of a daily award - but even that seems to have taken a fall. It went from randomly awarding you items with a sell back of 5k if you kept it in good health to a daily averaged of 200g. If it wasn't for booty grab, more then half of gaia would be pissed - putting out hard earned money to earn 200g a day.

Sponsors. Mimzy was Gaia's first sponsor and we have to admit, the bunny was cute. But, you took the concept of sponsors and turned them into 'quests' [which, may we add, greatly confused your older members] - and 'quests' seem to have suddenly disappeared. It's just 'go to this page, earn us money and get a sucky item you can't even sell for 1g.' Let us tell you, thank goodness for that new trash option, because those worthless pieces of junk were cluttering our inventories and marketplace. Another few words on this - we get it, you want us to get skittles, now remove that junk! You have gone from once a month movie/game advertisements to almost weekly - you're developing those items and the shop items we care for are being neglected and updated every few months. We know you want money, but donation letters use to be enough. Now aquariums and cash shop and the advertisements god forsaken everywhere - we know you get enough from that. Next thing we know, you'll be advertising merchandise. The newest iPhone perhaps? Make Gaia about Gaia again, not this other bull.

'Free' Gaia Cash Scams. Really, Gaia? We have never been more ashamed to call ourselves gaians.This site has a minimum sign-up age of thirteen - you're toying with young minds making them fall into traps such as the scams you have made accessible. It would be different if they were an advertisement by even a partner site, but... Gaia?! I [Airil here] seriously had to do a double take upon seeing this before calling my friend - and also long time Gaian - and asking him if Gaia had been hacked. Most of these offers for 'free' Gaia cash need you to provide a credit card and complete offers that most certainly cost money, and if you are lucky enough to find one that doesn't then be sure to expect the inbox of your email to be filled with spam by these offer sites. What are you going to do when some parent sues because their child took their credit card to complete one of these offers to get imaginary Gaia cash? It's low - never thought Gaia would team up with scamming sites. This use to be a safe environment...

Monthly Collectibles. When the cash shop opened, they fell. It was obvious which was being spend more time on - the cash shop times were given much thought and many MC's looked as if they were thrown together the day before the letters opened since it opened in late '07. All the while the EI's get better and better. This month's... It's shameful. While the angelic item is quite beautiful, but made exclusively for for the female portion of the site - any male whom likes the angelic look will have to sport the bra and panties, the dress and stockings that come on it. The demonic armor, on the other hand, is made for the males and looks like a pile of crap. Gaia's only purple demonic item. Should those two words even go together? We can remember back to when Gaia released simple items - such as the Kiki, one of the ironically simplest items out there - and the members positively loved them. Now most of us wait till the letters open to buy them because we're afraid of what failing items will be released that month.

New Shops Update. Many of the members whom make up gaia have problems with this new 'entrance' page to the shops. Some can not load the picture and are left with a blank screen, blindly clicking to find the shops enter sign. The marketplace is blinding and half the people can't figure out that you now have to detour through market in order to send a trade. Really, now, what has that accomplished besides angering your members? Sure, it looks pretty, but who really gives a damn in the end of it all if it looks pretty? Old Gaia wasn't and people seemed to have enjoyed that version much better. For those who aren't lucky enough to have the
Tektek Toolbar, they now have to take a tour about the scenery of the website in order to get to a shop because, apparently, this is a site that doesn't believe in the ease of drop down bars with shop listings anymore. Honestly, some of the entrances look a bit, well... Rushed. And have you noticed how only the cheaper and/or new items are the ones being shown off in the windows? As well, during this update, the Monthly Collectibles Museum has seemed to disappear while the Evolving Item Museum remains. Stop trying to beautify Gaia and start paying mind to glitches that need to be fixed and the matter of your members still enjoying the site. Or have you simply forgotten they were there?

Site Feedback and OMGaia! Forums. Do you even know they exist, Gaia? You have people give feedback on OMGaia! but seem to not look over any of it, or half of these recent 'updates' would have reverted back to their former glory. As for this Site Feedback forum... When is the last time you remembered that it actually exists? Do you realize there are petitions here? Do you realizing all of the people raving about how far Gaia has fallen? Apparently not. Ignorance is bliss.

'Botting' Glitches. Let us tell you three words that Gaia has yet to embrace. High speed internet. Countless members have been banned under the suspicion of Botting and are ignored when they try to plead their cases. It could be a member who had put hundreds of dollars into the site through Cash Shop and MC's, but Gaia sits on their growing plump butts and investigates nothing now a days. They're too busy trying to get thirteen year olds to give into scams. Many of us get the 'slow down' warning while entering our inventories if we work in marketplace and warned that we could be banned if that happens too often. We can get banned for having a fast connection and working fast, now? Well, that certainly is a new one. Pay attention to your members, Gaia!

'Exclusive Members.' The newest shop update made a mention to only exclusive members being able to access the shops and that newer members would have to work their way up and 'unlocking' the shops. It makes us wonder... Just how far will this idea of exclusive members go? It sounds as if just another way for Gaia to make money from it's members - who knows, in the future there may be special places unlocked and special items available to only exclusive, paying members. The question has been arisen by many if Gaia even plans to remain a free site - it seems like everything is starting to cost. Maybe memberships will cost soon, too.

Go ahead, make suggestions as to what can be done to make gaia a better place - tell us what needs to be fixed and what needs to be left alone. Tell us everything you think needs to happen with this lovely little site of ours. :]

I've been an active member since 2003 and have sadly watched Gaia steadily flush itself down the commercial drain. I miss the old days of roleplaying and regular comic updates. Now we get regular sponsor offers and advertisements and everything seems to cater to people who have joined within a year or less. Nothing they're doing makes me proud to be a Gaian. Sign me up for the protest!

I remember the OLD gaia, when we had the old fashioned page and navigation. Gaia is terrible now. If it wasn't for me trying to help them realize that and meeting new people, I wouldn't be here. Gaia upsets me to the max, and I would seem more ticked right now - but I'm too tired to yell in capslock at gaia. Plus, I doubt they'll listen.

Gaia is too far up their own money hogging world to care for us.

I've only been on gaia for a little less than two years, and I've watched it go from a user-friendly Forum based system (whose only pay aspect was monthly collectibles) to a dollar-friendly Evolving Item based site that is constantly generating packages of randomized items, so you can't even see what it is you're buying!

When I first got here, gaia was initiating a 2% tax on all the transactions in the market place, to stop gold inflation. Then they churned out tons of pay-only items, knowing full well that those gaians without cash would pay tons of gold to get those items.

I'm not just weird, odd, strange, insane, or a little ebil...

I've only been around since October o7 but I've watched this turn from a small site into one I see advertised on several sites I regularly visit. The fact it's getting advertised isn't bad for me, it's the fact that WE get more advertisements than I see FOR gaia.
But not only that, some ad-items weren't half bad!
Look at the items from the Tsubasa quests! What happened to Tsubasa? Makona's hat, Sayoran's Goggles, heck-- even that Mimzy glowing thing that stuck to your hand looked pretty cool!
Not to mention the Magic items.
If they're going to spam us with ads and ad items they should at least not be skittles related AND look decent!
I don't want a vibrant red and yellow top hat, dammit!
And what drives me more insane is that I got some of this skittles garbage IN THE DAILY CHANCE. Have you seen that cart up by the map that says Daily Chance? No? It's cause it some times says SKITTLES.

I just sat and read all your points, and I agree with you 110%. Even though I've only been here since 07, I could notice the big change from then to now. The navigation was smoother (especially since there wasn't much going on on the homepage), the Forums were better, and I used to ALWAYS go to Towns. But I don't find Towns appealing anymore, especially with the glitches and stuff, I can't stand it.
Also, you realize that Ian's hair is still blonde in Towns ? (If it has ever changed, correct me.) All they're focusing on is the MOOLAH and not enough of the USERS. (ditto.) I spent about $75 worth of Cash (in total), and now I'm starting to regret it slightly.

I've been hacked numerous times, but when I send the reports (and I'm constistent; I've sent in screencaps, quotes, dates, TONS of information etc...) all they tell me is "Tough s**t, try again from the start..." Being here since '05, Gaia has gone down majorly! Personally I loved how the orignal site design was then.

Gaia really has just gone down the tube . . . It's gotten to be one big, money run mess. It's gone from a friendly, idiot proof system, to a very confusing one. And (this idiot) some days, is beyond confused. They've even made it a pain-in-the-butt to delete your avi and change it. Took me ages to figure out how.

Watching this place degrade has made me sick to my stomach. I remember when the dry grass hula skirts were still selling somewhere around 500 gold in the market place (maybe more). One of the hottest items was the Deluxe Cat Ears, and the Zoro Mask looked fricken expensive back then! (The Pimp outfit seemed otherworldly and impossible to ever retrieve.)

It was a time when purchasing monthly collectables seemed worth it. I had a Kiki and a Coco before. The Demonic and Angelic Guitars, the fire and ice claws, whips, of god those were the days. I miss all of those items so much.

Now half of the announcements I try to go to say I don't have permission to view them. There's a worthless 2% tax that does s**t to fix the pricing on items (seeing at that tax disappears into thin air no one seems to pay it any mind) and I have to sell my old monthly collectibles in order to get the new evolving items.

It is disgraceful, and already I have been plotting out a forum that I'd be an artist of myself for those who miss the old Gaia. I am afraid that I just cannot stand to see another Toyota, Kung Fu Panda, or Skittles shoved down my throat. (Rubber tires do not digest very well.)

I haven't been here long at all by any standards (last Sept), but it's been long enough to see the point these nice people are trying to make with this petition. I don't know Lanzer and I can't presume to know what his thoughts are on all of this. I do know however that it appears Gaia has lost sight of its roots, which happens sometimes with corporations ran by people who were not there in the beginning. I've seen it happen before. And,maybe he just doesn't give a damn about any of that.

There are angry / hurt / disenchanted / people here, and someone needs to listen to them. Gaia really should stop ignoring its members, and address their complaints. That's all; that's my 2 cents for the day.

Who was your first big sponsor? And at what point did you guys go from "just a forum community" to a full out business with offices and all the additional formalities?


We got our first office a year after Gaia started. It was all thanks to donations from Gaians. We didn't have our first sponsorship (Mimzy movie sponsorship) years later. Gaia's biggest sponsors are Gaians themselves supporting the site.

Why if we are the number 1 sponsors in gaia, we don't have the right to speak up and be heard?!

About the glitches thing, though. It takes me at least three or four times to log in every time I open the page. Usually I don't even bother moving my mouse from the box. Sometimes, when I'm miraculously glitch-free, and I log in on the first try, I have to do a double-take, because I expected the "incorrect username/password" to load instead. Isn't that a bit sad?

I've only been here since, like '07, and even so I have noticed a major decline. Gaia seriously needs to sort out their priorities. I'd rather have the glitches fixed than read about the new evolution for an EI that I'll most likely never afford. It took me a whole bunch of selling and reselling to get the two I own, since I'd really rather not buy cash. And if they absolutely INSIST on having sponsor items, they could at least go back to the quest system. Although, I wouldn't mind doing that dumb Skittles thing if I could get gold or tickets instead of, well, Skittles. I don't even LIKE Skittles. And they really should spend more time on the MCs. Those used to be boss, but now, I wait until the fifteenth, because they're mostly just crap now. And I can't even afford the really super duper awesome ones because I spent all my gold on EIs that think they're cooler than you.

And that new site layout is kind of over the top, don't you think? I mean, what happened to the drop down menus, huh? What did they ever do to you, except make navigating the site easier? Did you know, it took me five minutes to find the link to trades? FIVE MINUTES! And it isn't even all that pretty, in my most humble opinion. The previous layout was much better. If it aint broke, don't fix it. Fix the glitches instead. Seriously. And update the freaking manga. Do you even READ your site feedback forums any more? Do you? You must be too busy sealing a new deal with some lame company we don't even care about. And enough with the freaking skittles, I have like ten of the same face paints. Sheesh.

A neopets veteran, I was so excited to have a virtual site I could RP on and play games and not be harassed for gold whenever I went into the forums. Neopets died in me quite a while ago, and the only reason I still play there is my little brother is addicted to their games... the only reason I'm here is because I hate social networking sites and it's the ONLY way I can talk to any of my friends except my cellular phone.

I've been on Gaia since Mid-2005, and since then, I've watched it fall more and more.
I miss not being afraid of being hacked or scammed EVERY DAY.
The monthly collectibles, I also think have shot way down after 2007.
I'm ******** SICK of all those god damn advertisements (ex. Skittles, Venus embrace, etc).
Gaia has become nothing more than a greedy, money-sucking black hole.
In other words, I COMPLETELY agree with everything you listed.
Edit: AND, I'm tired of them changing EVERYTHING, and saying they're ******** making it "better" and "easier" for us.

I joined early april 2008. Yes, fairly late. I could handle the layout, I could deal with the then, occasional, yes, OCCASIONAL sponsor advertisements, and I enjoyed the fact that, hey, the comic updated a bit, the new items were spiffy, and the gold shop items were epic and great to work towards. Cash Shop items were like... They were decent at the time. Not great, but decent. They had poses I would use and would want. I enjoyed the way guilds worked, and I liked poking around in the WF on occasion and helping people with their writings.
Now, I look into the WF and it's just sad. I posted once, and got flamed out of the WF because apparently, having had published works in local and independent magazines doesn't qualify me to help someone and give advice on their poorly written excuse of a twilight fanfic. I've browsed around other places, too, flamed out of the CB because of this, flamed out of the GD because of that, all the ED discussions aren't even serious anymore. The only place I've really found legitimate, intelligent, generous people was hovering around in charity threads and quests. Rarely anywhere else.
And really? I brought out a dummy PC and false email account, and started doing those gaia free cash offers to test things. Half of them require a paid mobile subscription, the other good portion gives an assload of viruses, and sends personal information to companies who sell that to spammers and other companies, and there's like... only one that's actually legitimate because it's a GOVERNMENT site.
Now, as much as I enjoy guilds - the fact that you can find people who share a common interest and goal is a great achievement for any forum site - It's the fact that the guild forums are so outdated compared to the forum system the main forums possess is just pathetic. I've dealt with so many database errors and disconnects just posting in the guilds, something I never experience in the main forums. And the new guild page is annoying - Half the time it doesn't load, and the other half the links won't take me to the listed threads and guilds. I have to usually go by my address bar and type in a few words, then go to the guild I want.
Related - The new nav bar is FUgly. Capital F, capital U, gaia. In both senses of the phrase. The new nav bar is ugly, badly colored, blocky, slow to load, annoying, redundant in labeling the dropdown menu links, and confusing as HELL. It's a pain just to try and find what I want anymore.

Seriously, Gaia. I'm still technically new to most people around here, but good god, even what you had a bit over a year ago was decent enough to work with. All you're doing now is pulling the trigger after pointing the gun at your head.
If this trend keeps up, Gaia, you're gonna lose your most precious asset and sponsors: Your members.[/rant]

If I had to describe my feelings for Gaia at this moment, I could do so using one single word: 'Disappointment'. Sad, because I remember the days I was EXCITED about logging on. Don't get me wrong, I still love the site, or I wouldn't be here. But if Gaia doesn't make a change for the better soon it will lose old (and older) members that are only here because they HOPE for the better.
Someone said; and I agree, that Gaia doesn't care about old members anymore. Just the new ones, that will spend money on it.
But new members get bored quickly, you know? They quit fast, too, because they realize there's nothing to Gaia. There really isn't, and there used to be. Why? Because before the heads of Gaia had to suck up to it's users and listen to their requests, think about their well being.
Nowadays Gaia is sucking up to sponsors and doesn't give a s**t about the users.
If I was in their shoes, I'd be ashamed. Filthy rich, most probably, but ashamed.

Gaia is falling, and I really hope whomever is running it (because, let's be fair, from the way Lanzer speaks and the way Gaia is being run lately, it really doesn't seem he's in charge anymore. And I say this because I refuse to believe he's a big fat two faced liar.) -will realize this and decide to do something about it. It's okay to make mistakes, but it really isn't okay to refuse to admit so and refuse to do something to fix them.

Ohmygosh, I almost cried when I was reading all of that. I've only been a member for almost two years, but even so, it was SO much more fun being a beginner back then, than it could ever be now. I love how this petition isn't about whining and griping, and simply gets down to the actual, truthful problems that Gaia is shying away from. Kudos. ;3;

I have read all of the points and other things and you got me on the first one. I am sick of all of this. I have been on this website for about four years. My first account of course was hacked from me and I reported it several times and it took them a whole year to take care of it and they told me I had to start all over again.

I am asamed of you gaia. You used to do so much better about all of this stuff. I don't even know why I stay on this website anymore.

As you have most likely heard - if you stick around this thread - there is another thread that is using the same idea as us, but using it to 'grow' the site. This week is the week that they will be naked.

So, because this competition thread plans to strip for only a week, we have decided to dress up! We don't want our hard working boys and girls out there to be mistaken for one of theirs, nor theirs mistaken for ours. So... For the week of July 13 - 19, we will be clothed!

To add fun to it, we can make this into a spirit week of our own sorts and theme the days. If you have any ideas, please tell send it in a pm with the title 'Clothed Week Idea.' :]

Monday, July 13 - Pet Day! Brake out your doll ears, puppy ears and neko supplies! Collars and tails! Today is a day to be a pet to be spoiled - and bring your pet items along, all kikis and other pets welcomed. :]

Tuesday, July 14 - Opposite Sex Day! That's right, you read if correctly - we want to be seeing some funky things happening today! Guys in dresses and girl's decking out the facial hair like they're made to be in the circus! Confuse the heck out of everyone and dress as the opposite sex. guys, be sure to show off those sexy legs!

Wednesday, July 15 - Fast Food Day! What looks worse on naked bodies? Fast food! Get decked out as your favorite chain icon - Ronald McDonald or Wendy - or even grab your hot dogs and even buy a fatty [male item, sorry guys :[ ]! We want to feel like we're getting fatter just by looking at the protest this day!

Thursday, July 16 - Superhero / Super Villain Day! That's right, we want to see your best superhero/villain impersonation. Since spandex is the closet clothing you can get to nekkid clothing, why not? So, we want to see everyone out here! We want to see everyone from Wolverine to Invisible Girl [mad props if you can pull that off!], from Mr. Freeze to Venom!

Friday, July 17 - Casual Friday! Let's Party Day! We want you to throw out all of those street clothings today and beautify yourself to your very fulliest [just like gaia has been trying to do lately]. That's right, we want tux's, prom dresses and anything that you think looks quite stunning! Make out jaws drop - who knows, you might gain the attention of a luncy guy or gal!

Saturday, July 18 - Wacky Tacky Day! [Also known as Idiot Day.] Today's the day to dress like a complete and total fool - or even revive those tacky clothes that are lost in the back of your closet! *cough* Not that they weren't lost for a reason... *cough* ANYWAYS! Make us want to roll on the floor when we see how unfashionably you have decked yourself out!

Sunday, July 19 - Protest Day! Today we want you to pick up any picket sign and drop all cash shop and ei items, abandon all aquarium overseer items and grab some older items! Tell gaia to pay more attention to us and stop worrying about the things that do nothing for our community!
