I thought at first the overseer was glitching when it gave me 277 gold when every now and then I would get 1k or more for a tank at over 90% health not to mention to I don't appreciate how I actually have to pay real money for something that DIES and costs as much a a meal..only to have its gold giving value be altered to give me less of a profit burning_eyes

Also, the inflation i like to think has something to do with items actually costing real money. I don't think anyone who pay $9.99 for an items expects to sell it in the market place for under 200k. .

I am quite irked over the "nerfing" of the tanks. I started back in 2007 and I found the site a bit dull. It was very hard to earn gold at all. Why should I play on a site where I can't afford all the pretty things all the others are wearing?

I did quit. I didn't come back to Gaia until just recently. I found the aquariums and the aquarium threads and started playing. I thought it was great. Sure I would get angry when the gold would hang in the top of the tank for 30 seconds and when the lag was so high that I could barely move, but I was making gold. Not just was I earning gold, but I was spending gold. More gold than I had ever been able to make on here and in addition to that, I was spending time in the forums because of the tanks.

And then, for quite some time I debated with myself. I really wanted a watermeat to start making gold in my own tank. My boyfriend saved up and finally let me get one. And then there was a bid sale for watermeat and other large fish. I broke down and bought that too thinking of the investment I would be able to get from it. But guess what? I was not able to make any type of investment because only days later, the fish were capped.

And now? Watermeats give out less than the cap. They give out half of what they used to and at a slower rate. And is it just me or do the positive power ups no longer last as long as they used to? I have been watching and it disappears while there is still nearly a quarter of its time left.

I may not have spent as much money as some others, but what I did pay, I could not afford. That money could have been put towards food, bills, rent, gas... anything better than a pixel that I already knew was going to disappear in 25 weeks. I expected it to earn me gold so I could buy more things.

This is upsetting and frustrating. I did not get what I paid for and I want a refund.

I had taken a very long break from Gaia and had returned about a week before the aquariums became nerfed. When I had seen them and the booty grab game I thought it was quite fun and it made me stay on Gaia, because for the first time since I joined the community I was getting hopes that I might actually be able to gain enough gold to buy some of the items that I had always wanted but was unable to find the time with my hectic schedule to gain gold within a reasonable time. I still have a very tight schedule with school and work and the changes to the aquariums that were made have made highly disappointed and wondering if I should have come back at all now.

With Watermeats at 749 Gaia cash, those who had a full 17 of them in their tank were praised because they had spent almost $130.00 to get them so that themselves and most of all others could gain a bit more gold for their goals and quests. Now that those 17 watermeat aquariums are giving about half if not even less than half the gold they used to, it just doesn't seem worth that $130.00 every 25 weeks to keep it filled.

I have not spent my money on fish yet, but I had been planning to before the change so to help myself and others gain a little more gold for the items that had once been out of arms reach for so long to so many.

I'm lucky to get to 400 gold from any tank's game now. It's horrible.
I paid a lot of real money to get these fish because Booty Grab is the only way I've EVER been able to make enough gold to buy any of the horrendously overpriced stuff on the marketplace.

It's not like selling the older items I don't use is going to be of any help. Hammi hat? Doesn't even go for as much as a Lila even though it's years old.

Just to make a point, I read EVERY post in this thread since my previous post (the very top of page 24). That's - count them - 17 full pages of posts, pretty much all of which have tanks attached to the signatures. Out of seventeen pages, I got six triggers. At 15 tanks per page, and 17 pages, that's 255 BG opportunities. Even allowing for variances (same person posting twice on a page, no tank in sig, etc), call it 225 tanks. SIX. Out of that many. What happened to the days when you found a glowing tank on damn near every page of a BG thread?

Meanwhile, the watermeat in my tank is wasting away not earning me gold. If I'd known it would be nerfed, I would have spent my Cash on MC's or something. Now I'm stuck with a 7.49$ pixel that barely triggers and often stops spitting gold halfway thru the game. Awesome. A 7 dollar cuttlefish. Mom would be so proud. rolleyes

In the retail world, we call this a "bait and switch". No pun intended. Bait and switch simply means you lure customers in with promises / visuals of an item, then once you have their money in hand you give them a different item, generally one that's worth significantly less or that has less functionality than the item you indicated they were purchasing. Does anyone else feel like this is what Gaia has done to us?

To tell you the truth I never got why we needed to deal with inflation on Gaia anyway. It is only pixels on a screen with no real value, so in my opinion inflation should not happen on Gaia in the first place.

My only guess is to mimic real life? That, and people complained they weren't making enough to get the gold, since prices were inflated... which is why we have (or at least one of the reasons) why we have a nerf/cap today...

Btw, to those who read the announcement on the Watermeat from chuck, anyone else just thought: wtf? Am finding it very hard to give them the benefit of the doubt (not chuck personally, the whole situation.) -_-

I too am having a hard time believing that they let that "glitch" go on for well over a MONTH. If they did any kind of work at all, they'd have been testing tanks and would have realized it if that was the case. I hate to say this, but it seems like they said that in an attempt to placate people into thinking that what they did to meats is alright.

I have noticed that the power downs were increased. Like the power down timer was increased to remove 6 seconds of play time instead of 4. And the timer power up still only rewards 4 seconds. It seems like all of the power up timers have been changed, but the power down timers are increased. Maybe I am just seeing things since I'm pretty angry about this.

I am REALLY tired of hearing about how our tanks are "still making as much gold as they always have." You can't show us a graph and make this all alright. Because they are NOT performing like they did when we bought them. I'm also tired of everyone seeming to think that all the tank owners care about is our own profit. If I didn't want people to be able to get a lot of gold from me, then I wouldn't have made the tanks that I did.

People complain about inflation and all of that, but the damage is already done. There is already so much gold in the system that everyone is going to be making less gold now, except the prices for the expensive items aren't going to be dropping for a LONG time. As long as the cash shop is in play, there is always going to be the problem with inflation. Period.

The fact is that Gaia is a business and needs to run like one. I've seen people complaining about advertising even. Cmon. How are they going to keep this site running without advertising? Who cares if it's silly products like Mtv, or Venus razors, or whatever. Show your support for the site that you love and keep clicking the links.

Anyways, I digress. Get over the issues about the amount of gold in the economy and realize that 30 years ago a gallon of gas was less than 80 cents a gallon. Now it is closer to $3. In 1960, a gallon of milk cost $1. Now it costs over $4. Inflation happens. It always have and it always will. Remember penny candy? It's now 5 cents.
