*raises hand* I have a question... um, do all mormons use "prayer" as their only response as to what someone should do when they are depressed, or do some of them give advice beyond this? I am actually asking this question, not trying to be mean or say anything hurtful, I have personal reasons for asking.

Also, if a girl sends a boy on mission, is it normal for him to give her his blessing to date others, and is it normal for her to date others while still waiting for him to come back so they can be married nigh immediately?
I wouldn't say prayer is the only solution, though from personal experience it is easily the most effective. Every situation is different.

My girlfriend just broke up with me because I'm going on a mission, it's been a real mess as now she is begging me to take her back, but I kinda want to date other girls and let her do what she wants, if she's still here when I get back then I would know we were meant to be together. Every situation is different. What seems to happen a lot is that the guy leaves and tells the girl to date while he's gone, then she goes and marries someone else before he gets back, though it does happen frequently where she waits.

How about the fact that they worshipped a completely different God from teh Hebrews, and had a certain number of deadly plagues set on them by said God?

No, the creed of the worshippers of Amen-Ra, for everyone of them, appears to have been made with the express purpose of contradicting the pretentions of other gods

There are at least two places in the Bible where Amen-Ra seems to be identified with Jehovah; the God of the Old Testament. When Paul goes to Athen and preaches to the men of Athens on Mars Hill, he notices a shrine to "The Unknown God". Some scholars (all non-LDS) believe this is a reference to Amen-Ra (Min-Amen); since one of the names of Amen was "Unknown". It is unlikely that the Athenians would dedicate a shrine to a Being they had no knowledge of. The Athenians had much commerse with the Egyptian-Greek city of Alexandria, and would have been familiar with all the Egyptian gods and their names, titles, and claims. Noticing the shrine to the Unknown God, Paul addressed them:

"Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars Hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with the inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him I declare unto you." (Acts 17:22-3)

Now, according to your say-so, Jehovah must be a "different god" Paul was identifying the UNKNOWN GOD (Amen-Ra) with Jehovah.

In the Book of Revelations, Jesus (Jehovah) identifies that His Name is "Amen":

"And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God." (Rev. 3:19)

The claim that Amen is not the same God as the Egyptians is not correct.

So, if Amen-Ra and Jehovah are the same, why is it that Jehovah needed to send an onslaught of unmitigated death to his own followers, and have teh other Group enslaved by the aforementioned Group? Seems kinda counterproductive towards keeping the worship numbers high confused
The Egyptians were apostates, oppressing the people of said God, then opposed a prophet of said God.

The Jews and Musloms worship the same God (Hebrew 'eloah, Arabic Allah.) Why are followers of the same God after each other? Apostasy.

Prayer is good, but not the only answer. I like reading, scriptures or something else...usually something else, listening to music, talking with friends and family, but prayer is good. Um, can't give much on the missionary thing, still 17.
And on the abortion issue, I'm against it except for when it endangers the mother's life. Then, it's completely the mother's choice. Even if the person is raped, i think they should still put it up for adoption, but i'm not a girl and won't placed in this situation, so my opinion probably counts for less.
Is it me, or are all Mormons American?
Im from England, and recently I've noticed a huge influx of thirtysomething American men (all with dark hair) around where i live.
Its quite eerie, they all trooped in on the train this afternoon and started to recite the scripture to themselves....

Somewhat recently the non-American Mormons overtook the American Mormons in numbers, but still a large number of Mormons are American. Which scripture were they reciting?

I might not be up-to-date with my information, but last I heard, President Hinckley had said that the Church had no official stand on abortion.

The Lord wants his children to follow Him, but like any Father he must punish them when they are disobedient.

And His children must follow Him; He isn't going to change what He has said just to "keep the worship numbers high."

Abortion can be grounds for disfellowship or excommunication if I recall. The only conditions which its not, is cases of; rape, incest, and endangerment of the mother's life.

Though, its the South Americas that overtook the North Americans in numbers. South Americans are still Americans. blaugh

Though, the real answer is, to why England has so many American Missionaries, I would guess its because most of the "English" speaking Missionaries over all, would be from the US. There is a large back bone of family/culture supporting them, so I wouldn't be surprised if we sent out more missionaries than all the English speaking countries put together.

on Abortion: i disagree in almost all cases. the way i see it, you had your choice and you already made it. if you don't want to keep the baby give it up for adoption cause there are plenty of couples who want kids and can't have them. and you're right. rape is a difficult one. i guess i have to stop and think what i might do in that situation as unpleasant as imagining that is. right now i'm thinking i'd have the baby, but when actually placed in that situation i have no idea what i'd really do.

on EFY: good for you! i've never been. what is it?

on llamas: dramallama whee
So, even if having the child would kill you, leaving any and all other children you had before motherless, you'd have it anyway?

And EFY is "Especially For Youth". Pheonix, the girl who started teh "Mormons..." thread, is actually headed to Provo right now for EFY.

oh i'm sorry. i'm such a dope. i left that out. that's another time i think it's a good idea.

what do you do at EFY?

EFY is a heck of a lot of fun. You go to whichever college campus you signed up for, you can find out which colleges and when they are offered here:

http://ce.byu.edu/yp/efy/

You basically spend a week at the college, living in a dorm with other EFY participants. There used to be three dances but I think they only have two now. One on wednesday and one on friday. You are organized into groups and you meet lots of people, you listen to speakers, which doesn't sound like a lot of fun but the speakers are incredible, you play games, theres a talent show, FHE, competitions, a musical, performances, a testimony meeting, pizza part, and tons more. You should go. When I was young enough, it was my favorite week of the year.

Even better, our trials aren't always punishments. Often, He is just testing us or trying to make us stronger for reasons that we don't always understand.

so in other words it's like a big Youth Conference? i went to Youth Conference once. it was pretty fun. but the dance sucked. i got two dances but only because someone told them to ask me. well, not one of them because he used to go to my ward but he moved a long time ago. what can i say? i'm not very popular with mormon boys for some reason. prom was so much better. whee
