“Sirena. Please be a good girl and play along with your sisters. I will be by to collect you all later.” The elder god placed a kiss to his daughter’s forehead before she gave him a toothy grin and disappeared in a swarm of bubbles. A throaty chuckle escaped her father as he pinched a bubble between his fingers. “What am I ever going to do with that girl?” Poseidon turned to go back into his coral garden while stroking the black beard that floated around him. He knew that like the ocean, his favorite daughter would never be able to be controlled. What he didn’t know was that soon his daughter was going to be trapped by the very thing she loved most.
It was about a month later when the voice started to call out to her. At first it was someone she could talk to when her sister were off talking about cute mermen but the voices grew stronger the more Sirena became friends with it. Her friend would lure her to new parts of her realm, she had never been to before. The voice called itself Aquatic. The little sea spirit never saw what being the voice came from but the sound carried along the currents to her every time she was by herself.
A storm hit the oceans one night and Sirena became frightened at how rough the waters had become around her. The small child hid in the kelp forests until her friend found her and lead her to a safe place. Or so she had thought. Sirena followed the voice until the water she swam in started to feel funny. She could no longer taste the salt in it or feel the cooling waters from the Artic.
“Aquatic? Where are we? Why can’t I feel daddy’s presence anymore?” The water in front of her shimmered and an old man appeared before her. He had on white silk robes, a staff that shined like sea glass, and long flowing white hair. She had never seen this man before but recognized the voice once he spoke.
“Because Sirena, I have lead you here for a very special role for you and I can’t keep an eye on you anywhere else but here. Please be a good girl and stay here for me.” With that, the man Sirena thought was Aquatic burst into tiny fish, leaving the sea spirit all by herself.
Years past and Sirena grew slowly in her little prison. When she had been small, the lady found she had been entrapped in a sort of lake and surrounding the lake was what appeared to be glass. As she grew, Sirena understood that she lived in a waterpark. Aquatic had entrapped her in a tank full of manatees and other fish that they kept on display. But sadly, as time passed the waterpark failed and they took her fish and mammal friends away so she was left along again. Her biggest problem was that she could never go above the surface. Every time she would hit an invisible glass and would have to look at the world above her from the waters below. After she was placed in the tank, Aquatic had taken all of her memories of home so the only thing she had ever known were the rounded walls of her prison. She could remember her father and her sisters but everyone else was a blur in her mind. Sirena longed for the salted water of the oceans and to once again be surrounded by the currents instead of the stale water of the tank. It was very lonely over the years as she spent her time learning how to control her powers. Sirena aged three time slower than mortals did and her powers matured even slower at that. As a child she could control small amounts of water, talk to fish and other marine life, and her voice could send men to their underwater graves.
Since her mother was part Siren, the sea spirit had a voice like one of her relatives. She also had the beauty of them as well. Long white, blonde hair would fall past her shoulders if it would ever stop floating around her. Her skin glowed like the most beautiful pearls in the sea. Sirena had red lips that would shame some of the brightest fish and the freckles dotted her face were the only imperfection on her frame. Since she had grown over the years, Sirena found that she had inherited her beautiful form from her mother but her eyes glowed the color of the sea like her father. She also gained her father’s wit. From the materials in the bottom of the tank and what she created from the waters around her, she made a harp so she could play music that would stir the currents around her. Today a sigh escaped her lips causing bubbles to drift to the surface. Ever since the park closed long ago, she hadn't seen anyone else. She never got to talk to the people outside her tank but at least she could see mortals for the first time in her long life. No one came to her tank anymore and Sirena could never leave. Today she seemed to be feeling lonelier than most of her other days. When she was at her lonilest, the now lady sea spirit would sing till her heart felt like it was breaking. Her lips parted and the notes drifted along the water and currents carrying her song throughout the land. Too bad no one would hear it, or so she thought.

((OCC~ I know you said you weren't going to post any pictures of anything else and that's fine, i just had this fixed up already so i'm using it. Just wanted you to know that i don't expect anything else out of you! biggrin ))

(My apologies for the delay, i am back though!)

Since he could remember himself, she was in his world. She had been his childhood friend and later the first one to make his heart skip beats, when he was old enough to feel such feelings and knew what they meant. They were so different, yet so close. She was a beauty, a demigoddess, his goddess. Even as a little girl she was beautiful. How could he be compared to a beauty like her? Sure, he wasn't hideous to look at, but her presence was enough to make his environment a better place. A touch of hers and his bad mood was gone. She was his personal pearl. A rare pearl he was treating with much respect.

He was the son of one of the sea lords and thanks to the girl's liking to him in comparison to the other proud heirs, he was chosen by their fathers to be her future husband. Oh how happy they both were upon finding that out. Kai, with all the innocence of his age, as they were still kids when it was announced to them, had already promised her to work hard so he would be able to bring her the finest pearls to decorate her hair with. Their anatomic difference wasn't an issue. What if he had a sapphire blue tail in the same place where she had two thin milky white legs? They could both survive underwater. They had already planned that their house would be close to a deserted island so she could enjoy the sand too. She always liked the outside world. It fascinated her. Why would he refuse it to her?

However, someone, or something, he couldn't know, took her away from him. One day, when they were just teenagers, he had swam to her home to give her a pink pearl he found for her and to invite her out to play and swim, only to come across a grieving and worried family. He could remember how upset her father was too. A god was upset. This could never be good. The god couldn't even feel her in his kingdom anymore. She was taken away from the sea....where? On the land? In a lake? Or was she...? No, Kai wouldn't believe that. He wouldn't believe that his beloved one was gone. She was kidnapped. Not dead. She was out there someone.

That night he had packed his things to go find her, but his father found out and kept him locked in "The god of the sea himself is looking for her, a child like you won't make a difference!" he had told him and Kai couldn't, but obey. This didn't last long though. As the years passed, he grew into a strong merman who couldn't be more worthy of Sirena. Once he became an adult according to their laws, the day of his birthday, he presented himself before the god of the sea, Poseidon himself and requested to go search for his daughter and future wife. The old god, who had considered him his own son already, didn't take long before he agreed. A man searching for their lady was the most honorable thing they could do in their whole lives, apart from dying to protect his family. Kai had left his home the same day.

He had searched for years. Every attempt to find her was fruitless. He had searched the whole ocean and all the lakes he knew. His tail and side had some scars from a fight with scars and his dark hair was sloppily cut with the knife he had since he was young. Thankfully, he didn't have to worry about the human things, such as shaving. His hair and eyebrows were the only hairy parts on his body thanks to the deep water. His girl was no where to be found. He needed to find her. But where? He had even searched on land. He had asked around, he had exhausted his legs to the point of big pain, yet she was nowhere to be found.

This went on, until one day when he woke up he found a message in a bottle next to him. He was sleeping in one of the the underwater caves close to a beach, and when he woke up he found an empty of water bottle, with a piece of leather inside. The air inside was making it struggle to go to the surface, but a tight rope that was attached on it and was tying it on a coral made it impossible. Kai had not felt or heard anyone so this was pretty weird...and scary at the same time. He was a light sleeper. He would wake up at anything, yet he didn't. When he opened the bottle and took the leather piece out he unfolded it and his eyes shot wide. It was a drawing of some kind of label, like the ones human used on their houses that sold things they made like food and clothes, but below this label was a lonely girl into a tank who was alone into a box. Was this his girl? There was only one way to find out. He would find where this label belonged.

This day he swam quickly on land. He was careful not to be seen as his tail dried into his pair of legs and he wore the clothes he had saved in the rocks. A plain shirt and a pair of shorts he had shamelessly stole from another guy while they were surfing. He wouldn't miss it. He cut the piece of leather with his knife so he would have the label only and went out asking. Soon, he found out it was a seaworld, a place that kept sea creatures as hostages. He was told that there was one around there, but it was abandoned. Still he wanted to check it out. He memorized the directions and started walking. His legs were exhausted, but he was soon there, to this abandoned place. No humans were around, but soon his eyes in the color of the ocean were filled with tears. He could hear it...A song...a song that made his heart get warmer. Only one person could do this for him. Gathering his strength he ran in and climb the ladder leading to the tanks. There was a girl there...a woman. Her back was at him so he went to her tank and tapped the glass. He didn't need to ask her who she was. He recognized her. He would recognize her even if she was an old lady. But she wasn't. She was young...and beautiful...yet so sad. He quickly climbed to her tank and used his knife to open it. He dived his head underwater and spoke to her "Sirena!"was all he said to her. He could speak underwater so even if she couldn't remember him she would know he came from her world "Sirena i found you!"he said with his voice almost breaking "I found you..."

The hair on the back of her neck seemed to prickle but Sirena couldn't figure out what was making her feel this way. Looking around she didn't see anything out of the ordinary so this feeling had come out of the blue. Somewhere in the back of her mind, a memory wanted to be remembered but everything had been lost to her years ago. Sirena's faltered and slowly faded away as she stood and pressed herself to the glass side to see if she could possibly figure out what was going on but nothing stood out to her. Her blonde hair was the only thing that moved as it floated around her face as piercing blue eyes peered at the world above her. If only she was able to leave this tank and find her family again. To maybe remember things from when she was a child. Surely her father could help her in some way recover her memories. Sirena often wondered about them when she sat alone in her tank. She wondered about what they looked like now especially her six other sisters.

When they were old enough, each daughter was to inherit a sea for her to rule. Since Sirena was the youngest, she was the last one in line to come into power. By this time in her adult life, she would have already been ruling for a number of years beside of husband that had been betrothed to her by her father. A frown came to her coral colored lips and a crease appeared between her eyes as she tried to remember anything from her childhood. The people were blurs except for her family. Had she been betrothed to someone before she was taken? Was she really taken? How had she gotten to this tank in the first place? A pain blossomed in her head as she raised her hands to press against the sides of it. Sirena closed her eyes and focused on calming her breathing. Every time she tried to think back on those times, a pain would always come alive in her mind and a panic would rise in her chest. When she was smaller, Sirena would panic and try her best to escape the prison she had been placed in so many years ago. No amount of pounding would ever break the spell that was placed on this tank to keep her inside. Even her powers were of little use to whoever had placed her in here.

Sudden noises outside her tank caught her attention as she quickly pulled the blade she still had from a child, and pressed it against the side of her in a defensive position. There had been a few kids over the years who had wondered into the park and never found her. Sirena always made sure to hide herself so she would not be discovered. Mortals were completely different from her world and she did not know what they would do if they found out what she was. Her father had always protected each of them from the people who could do the most harm and that was always a battle he fought against the mortals. A figured appeared at the top of her tank and Sirena squinted to try and make out what they looked like. It was a man with dark hair who had stumbled upon her but Sirena was still weary of anyone who came close to her. Gathering up the soft fabric of her overlaying dress, the siren moved toward the sea grasses that grew at the bottom of her tank from when the manatees lived here with her.

"Sirena!" The call of her name made her freeze halfway to the grasses and the knife faltered in her hand before dropping to the tank floor. That voice echoed in her mind and tried to pry a memory long forgotten loose. If this man knew her name then he must be from immortal world. No mortal would ever know who she was nor be able to find her without being able to hear her song. The heart in her chest sped up as she turned her gaze upwards toward the voice. A head suddenly appeared in her tank and a flurry of bubbles drifted toward the surface from the gasp that had left her lips. If he could speak underwater, then he was from the same underwater world as her. If tears could fall from her eyes, they would have been tears of joy and relief as she quickly swam up to the stranger. Sirena still kept some distance from him but came close enough to study his face and be able to read his eyes.

"You found me. Please help me out of here and I will make sure my father Poseidon rewards you with whatever your heart desires. There is a spell placed on this water and it prevents me from leaving here." Her voice as sweet and soft as any siren's drifted in the water like the way her song had drifted in the air to bring this man to her. Sirena was still weary of this man but would take any chance she could get to get out of this prison. There was a story in his eyes that told of misery, loss, adoration, and relief as he looked at her. Her father must have gotten word to every creature living in his realm if this stranger knew her name and was relieved to find her. That feeling of a vague familiarity about him returned as she searched his eyes for an answer she wasn't sure she would find. While his eyes held so many emotions and a familiarity in them, Sirena's blue ones only held a desperation to be freed. In their depths, there was no sign of recognition for this man. The siren floated only but a few feet from him as she prayed to the gods that he would help her return to her family. It had been many years since she tasted the salt of the oceans and felt the presence of the sisters and father she had been taken from.

There she was. He could finally lay his eyes on her, after all these years of dreaming of her and then searching. He would be a liar if he told himself she was more beautiful than he expected, because already knew she would be a creature with a beauty equal to a goddess'. She was his personal goddess, wasn't she? This blond hair was like a halo of light around her and these eyes, so similar to his, reminding him of the blue ocean, were more beautiful than any other gem he had found. It was almost like a dream, but he had to persuade himself, that it was true. It was his Sirena. His childhood friend and future bride. The one he was admiring and loved, since they were kids.

And she was trapped. His love was trapped. Trapped in an awful place as it seemed. Was she here all along? He got ready to let her know he would take her out, when her words caught him off guard. Why was she telling him who her father was? He already knew that...she knew he was aware of it. After all, they had been playing around the palace too many times for him to not remember it. There was no chance she wouldn't recognize him. He was wearing the necklace she made for him, when they were little with the three shells, just for this purpose. He had been wearing it for years, since she gave it to her. She should remember it.Only that her eyes showed she didn't. Sure she seemed eager to get out and this was understandable, but at the same time, he couldn't see any sign of recognition. Why couldn't she remember him? Why couldn't she remember he was her future husband? Her best friend?

He tried to let his questions for later. What mattered now, was to take her out. A spell? He could detect no spell. Himself knew some, but in order to perform he needed to detect the problem, only that he couldn't. He found no issue in pulling his head out of the water. He was fine. He quickly took his shirt off and dived his head in again, his necklace floating around his neck "I will get you out, Sirena, do not worry. I am here.."he told her and mentally added 'here for you'. He moved deeper so he would be in her tank up to his stomach and reached for her with his hands "Take my hands. I will pull you out, don't be scared"he tried to assure her. As for himself, he had no issue. As long as his body was not wet, from his waist and below he was in no danger of having his tail appear. It would be quite painful with pants on as they would get enveloped into his skin, among his flesh. Nobody would like this kind of pain. He would have to wait for his tail to get dry again in order to set himself free and he didn't have time for something like that.

He gave his girl time to trust him, get her knife and reach for his hands and the gently pulled her upwards. If there was a spell it seemed it didn't work with him around, because he was able to pull her out of the tank and back on land. He carried her in his arms and got down the ladder after taking his shirt and knife, then set her down next to what used to be her prison. Even if she didn't recognize him, he couldn't help but gently touch her cheek with his fingertips, almost as if fearing she would turn into bubbles under his touch "Finally....i finally found you..."he said then took his hand away, figuring he would have freaked her out enough, by now "Do you not remember me? I am Kai! We were playing every day when we were little and before you...disappeared"he said and raised his necklace "You made me this" he added waving it so the shells would get her attention. He gave her his shirt to wear since she was soaking wet. She could use it more than him. He helped her up "Come on! We need to go home! You were gone for too many years!"

Sirena was hesitate as she looked at the stranger's hands reaching out for her. He spoke like he knew who she was on a personal level. Quickly, Sirena swam back down to the tank floor to grab what little things she had before placing her hands in his. There were a tingling in her skin where her hands met his. The feeling of a memory trying to shake loose returned as she was lifted from the tank. Where the fresh air hit her skin, goose bumps appeared for the first time in so many years. Once she left the water, her clothes melted away to leave behind modern day appearance. Since she was a daughter of Poseidon, Sirena was able to leave the water without being soaking wet so she was completely dry with modern day clothes.

Instead of her Grecian dress, a loose, white, three-quarter length sleeve blouse covered her from the waist up and frayed jean shorts covered her bottom half. Plain white boat shoes and a backpack made from fishing net completed her look as all the items she had in the tank were transferred into the pack. Blonde hair finally felt the weight of gravity as it tumbled down her back in loose waves. Sirena reached up as she smoothed a hand over her hair and fingered the necklace she wore. It was a gem stone the same color of her eyes tied to a small silver chain. The necklace had been with her when she was placed in the tank and something she had kept close to remind her of home. Sirena turned to look at the stranger in front of her and shook her head when he offered her his shirt. "I'm ok."

Sirena studied his face for a moment and tried not to flinch away at his hand on her cheek. His touch was light and gentle on her face and a small pink tint stained her cheeks as she stared up into eyes that almost matched her own. It had been a long time since she had felt the touch of someone else on her skin. Sirena stepped back out of his touch when he started to raise his voice. "I'm sorry but I don't know know you. When i first came to this mortal world, my memories were lost to me. I'm not even sure how i got here in the first place. The only thing i can remember is my family. Everything else is just a blur. I'm sorry Kai. I just don't remember who you are." Sirena glanced at the necklace he was waving at her as a pain opened up in her head again. Her hands flew up to rub her temples as her eyes closed and she ducked her head down to rest her chin on her chest. Every time she tried thinking about her past, the pain would return to her head.

As she massaged her temples, Sirena didn't notice men gathering in the shadows watching the two of them. These men were alerted to her location when the spell on the tank was broken keeping her in her own prison. "Home?" Sirena lifted her head as Kai talked of home just as an arrow whizzed by. The siren yelped as she ducked and the arrow shattered the glass wall of the tank and water came rushing out. Quickly Sirena grabbed Kai's hand as she began to run. "Quick this way!" Once upon a time, a visitor of the park dropped a map in her tank and Sirena was able to memorize the park. Now they needed a place to hide and lie low until they had a plan. Ducking around corners and rushing down sidewalks, the blonde led them to the underground tunnel aquarium. As they quickly ducked in a cut out corner, Sirena's chest heaved up and down as she tried to catch her breath. "I think...we've lost them...for now." Fear shone bright in her eyes as they darted here and there to see if they had been followed.

Kai watched her changing from a free sea spirit to a woman, that could easily fit in this human world, unlike his own clothes which resembled of a guy constantly on vocation. Not that he really cared about that. Her safety, actually her appearance after all this year and *then* her safe return back to her home was top priority and he couldn't allow himself to worry about such unimportant things, like the impression he made on humans, that not only saw for the first time in his life, but who he would probably never see in his life ever again. He got impressed, by her outfit though. How could her powers have a sense of fashion? Was she updating them somehow? Oh Poseidon. He was sure that if on the next minute, seaweed dresses were the human fashion her appearance would change right into a magnificent seaweed dress "Right, i forgot all about that. You could dress up at an instant, while i needed to do it on my own"he said and got his shirt back, before forcing the neck through his head and pushing his hands through the sleeves. He had learned, after an unfortunate event, that human clothes had a small paper. The small paper should be worn on the back side, not the front.

Her words, caused a deep pain equal to as if he got bitten by a herd of sharks "I don't remember you". How could she not remember him, when she was his whole world? When he breathed and lived for her? To find her? And now that he found her to protect her..He didn't get enough time to analyze this as he heard something and he was fast in pulling her to him before an arrow flew by breaking the tank. No. He shouldn't get wet...not now! No! His tail's appearance was the worst thing that could happen now! She pulled him along and he started running, the fastest his human legs allowed him. He ran and ran with no other thoughts than take her to safety. It seemed that this time she would be in charge as she seemed to know where she was going. When they stopped, Kai was panting as well "For now...but...water...is safe....not...here...Come!" he said and then went to her. He took her hand and closed his eyes.

Merpeople always knew where the sea was. They could smell it, feel it in their bones, embrace it. They could go there even if they were blind. So now Kai, was able to guide his love towards a cliff. A small road gave them the opening to reach the beach and he even picked her up and ran the rest of the way so her legs that would only walk in a small tank for the past years, wouldn't give in. Once he reached the beach, he went to the rocks that he used to hide himself. He removed his clothes quickly and held them in his hands before reaching for her hand "Come! We need to hurry. They may be watching us"he said and finally got into the water.

At the instant the water touched his body, his legs came together, became numb, got stuck and sapphire blue scales covered them from his waist to the bottom and appeared a pair of fins at the end, finalizing the transformation of his tail. He was back to his true self. A merman. He loved this feeling after all the exhaustion he experienced on land. He waited for her to come in too and then took her hand "come with me!"he told her and then started to quickly swim away from the shore while holding his clothes with the other hand which were soaking wet. He couldn't care less about that now. He kept swimming and swimming until the water became cooler, yet pleasant to them. So where was he taking her? "I am taking you somewhere where we used to go together...when we were kids" he said and only after quite a while did they reach their destination.

An underwater tunnel let them to a cave that was all filled with water, apart from a small beach on the end. There was a hole on the top of the cave the refreshed the air and was letting the sun get in the cave. However, it seemed they were swimming for a long time as the only light that came in was from the moon. Kai let go of her hand gently and swam a bit further in case she was still afraid of him. He couldn't risk scaring her more. He swam to the beach and came out, laying on the sand in exhaustion but letting his tail into the water "finally....you are free"

Sirena had quickly followed Kai as he lead them toward the ocean. As they got closer, the sea spirit could feel the presence and smell the salt in the air. A smile appeared on her lips as she sped up faster toward he home. That was until Kai swept her up and started to run with her in his arms. Sirena wanted to struggle but let him so long as it kept her getting closer to her home. It wasn't that she couldn't run but struggling would take time away from wherever they were going. Sirena didn't frankly care because so long as she was able to feel the water that made her up home, she would be happy with whatever Kai wanted to do. Once they reached the water, Kai went behind some rocks to hide himself as he got in the water. Sirena looked out over the water and felt a sudden feeling of panic run through her. It had been so long since she felt this familiar surrounding of water against her skin.

As soon as Kai was finished, Sirena took off her shoes and got a running start and dove into the water. As soon as her lean body slipped under the surface, a gasp left her lips. Home Her eyes seemed to glow brighter and a shimmer appeared on her skin. It felt so good to be in this presence again. Sirena followed Kai at the same rate as a seal had come up along her side for her to grab onto. Her eyes closed as she rested her head on the seal's back and a smile came to her lips. Suddenly something hit her and her brow furrowed. A memory that lingered in the sea had found it's way to her. It was almost like seeing into the past. Her father stood before his throne as he roared at the guards in the room. "Find her! I want my daughter safe and brought back here! Look everywhere for her and don't stop until you bring her back!" The waters churned with Poseidon's rage. Storms erupted on land with the force of his power and emotion. The sea god collapsed into his chair as he shielded his eyes with his hand with his elbow on the arm rest of his throne. "Oh Sirena. Where have you gone off to. I pray that you are safe somewhere from harm's way."

Sirena's eyes opened as she was brought back to reality and out of the past. The water held onto the memories of the past and she was able to get a glimpse now that she had returned home. Sirena? A voice floated through the water and when it rang in her ears, she almost cried out. Father. I'm home Their communication was weak since she wasn't close enough to her true home to be able to communicate clearly but it was enough that she could feel his faint presence and he could feel hers. Sirena almost swam off in the direction toward her home but knew that they were still in danger so a family reunion would have to wait. She craved nothing more than to return to her father and sisters but it wouldn't be happening if she was dead.

Finally they reached the destination that Kai had in mind and Sirena kissed the sea on the nose before waving goodbye. The sea spirit broke the surface of the water and inhaled the fresh air of the cave. It was nice to never have to worry about being wet when she could just walk up and look like she just came from an over sized blow dryer. Kai swam up to the little beach and Sirena followed suit as she sat with her toes buried in the sand and her knees pulled up to her chest. The blonde looked around the cave trying to remember anything about the merman before her or anything else from her childhood but all she could find were the same few flashes of her father's face and those of her sister's. There weren't any real memories but pieces frozen from a memory instead. Sirena knew her words must have hurt this man before her but she really didn't know him. whatever happened had stolen them from her.

Her ocean blue eyes turned to the night sky as she found the moon hanging high above them. A sigh escaped her lips and her arms wrapped around her knees. "I remember having to look up at the moon thinking it was taunting me. It could pull or push the water in tides but it could not pull me away or the water surrounding me so i could be free from the prison i was in. More than anything i wanted to return to my ocean home and be unable to see the moon from down below. I never realized how beautiful it was until now that there is not the surface blurring it's beauty." Sirena wasn't sure why she told him that but she hoped maybe her words would take some burden from him. Unable to think of anything else to say, the blonde rested her chin on her knees and watched as the water lapped at the end of the small beach in the cave. In this cave, it had seemed she had traded one small prison for another since she was still far from the people in this world she wanted to see the most. Sirena looked over at Kai and tried to remember something about him. He had searched for her all this time and in the end she was not what he had searched for. A sadness radiated through her as she returned her eyes back to the water now filled with disappointment and the feeling of failure.

Was he happy that his girl was finally in the salty water? Yes. Was he sad that she couldn't remember a single thing that was related to him? Yes. Was he disappointed about that? Yes. Was he going to tell her? Absolutely no. It was not her fault to begin with. She didn't do it on purpose, but there they were now. Both laying on a small beach into a cave, with a heavy atmosphere as if they were two complete strangers, despite the fact that Kai had been dreaming of all this, since the day he went out to look of her. He had dreamed of finding her, hugging her, taking her back home and starting their lives together just like it had been planned. Just like they had dreamed, when they were little.

Everything seemed in vain now. Every dream of theirs, that he had kept and cherished all this time had shattered into a thousand of pieces, the moment she told him she didn't know him at all. How could this be possible? How could he not be remembered? She could remember her father, her sisters, why not him? He was as good as family to her back then. They were close like siblings, twins even. They did everything together and it was a common event for Kai to join the king and his daughters in the table, even for breakfast sometimes.

Sure they had their times of privacy and time for themselves, but unless one of them had something important to do, or was extremely tired, they would spend their time together, doing whatever that came up to their mind, even pranks on other people when they were little. He remembered that one day, when they were around 5 or 6 years old, they had poured into the king's food some of the juice from a bitter seaweed. Pretty innocent, but really cool for them. The king didn't even have the chance to ask who did this, because the moment they saw his face when he tasted the food, made them burst out in laughter and blowing their cover. He didn't get mad at them. Who would get mad to those kids? He did made each eat two bites of the food they had prepared. Kai remembered it was the most horrible thing he had ever tasted in his whole life. Even worse than the time he had accidentally eaten a dead clam and had a stomach ache for two days, when he was 7. Sirena had kept him company some time, so things were better, but he had to be in bed most of the time.

Yet, the Sirena he had right there in front of him, could remember nothing of these. How could one forget the taste of the bitter food? He had been trying hard to forget. He rested on the sand, panting to catch his breath. He was exhausted. They swam for a while and he hadn't gotten any good rest for a few months. Once he felt better he opened his eyes to look at her. Dry and...perfect, as expected. She used to tease him about how he was wet the whole time and he was getting stubborn by telling her that he didn't need any instructions from someone who could never know the struggle of waiting for your tail to disappear. His wasn't going to leave now as he still had it almost all in the water, plus his clothes were wet. He realized he was still holding them so he just threw them on the sand and didn't even bother to pull his hand back. He just laid there.

When she spoke of the moon, Kai sighed. He knew she liked the moon. At least she used to like it "You used to wake me up, many times when there was a full moon, so i would come with you on the surface and you can watch the moon without being alone. I was spending most of my time playing with some fishes, while you were saying how beautiful it was...like you do now." he told her and then brought his hands together and rested his chin on top of them. He watched her reactions. He had learned to read her very well and her ways hadn't changed much so when he saw those eyes get clouded, he knew what she was feeling "What is it? What bothers you?"he asked with sincere interest. He couldn't act like a stranger with her, no matter if she considered him one. If she was troubled, he wanted to know what was wrong and try to fix it.

Sirena kept her eyes on the moon as she tried to pick through all the emotions and thoughts that brewed a strong storm in her. After so many centuries alone she found it strange to converse with someone else. For a while she had the manatees and they understood her when she talked but they provided no conversation back. Sirena was so used to the sound of her own voice that when Kai spoke, it just seemed to be another voice in her head. Once she thought she was going crazy at the amount she was talking to herself but when one is by themselves for that long, it seems only natural that they would talk to themselves to keep them from loosing their mind entirely. Now she had someone who could think for themselves and provide a different opinion.

“You looked for me all those years. Never once giving up on ever finding me again. Kai you could have moved on with your life a million times over again and none of the gods would have blamed you but yet you still looked on. All those years you built up this imaginary creature in your mind of who i was going to be but now that you’ve found me, i’ve been a disappointment for you. Remember that i am a part of the sea in which you live in, i can read your emotions just as well. I know finding me the way i am has disappointed you. I nor anyone else would blame you if you wanted a fresh start to have a life with someone who won’t cause you so much hurt and pain.”

The last thing Sirena wanted to do was cause anyone anymore pain. Her father and sisters along with Kai probably suffered enough all these years trying to find their lost siren only to find her nothing like the little girl they lost so many years ago. Now they were getting back this stranger of a woman who knew nothing more than her family. Even her memories of them were limited to only a handful. More than anything she remembered their still faces like pausing a scene from a movie. She couldn’t even remembered entire places in time just feelings of being loved and safe instead of the turmoil and fear she had lived in for so long.

Sirena fingered a thin gold chain around her neck, the end of which a seashell with a pearl hung. It was something she had on her when she had been taken and somehow always provided a sense of calm to spread through her. The shell acted like a locket in which the pearl was kept and the chain was long enough that she could hold it in her hand and admire it. At times like this with her emotions raging a storm inside her, the feel of it in her palm and the slight weight around her neck, gave her strength to carry on and remind her that she wasn’t alone.

Finally she turned her eyes to Kai before she spoke again. “I’m sorry Kai. I did not mean to sound ungrateful for you saving me from that tank. I just want to give you the chance to be free of this burden and live the life you want and not out of some duty to find me. I’m so very tired of hurting the people around me and making them worry that i just want you to be happy. Whether it’s out there-“ Sirena gestured toward the ocean just beyond their cave. “Or stuck in here with a ditz like me.” A small smile came to her lips as she gave him the option free and clear of any consequences.

Once again, Kai proved he was a good listener, by not once interrupting Sirena, while she spoke, or making a face that would betray his feelings. He watched every movement she made, he listened to every word, he observed every face expression, until she seemed like she was done. So she really wanted to unburden him huh? Well that would be troublesome. Some things on her were still identical to the Sirena he had used to know, like the fiddling with the necklace. It was a gift from her father, but the pearl was his. She had been whining to him what she would put into an empty locket and he spent his free time, while she was in her lessons, to find one and give it to her. Sure her father had better once, but he thought she would appreciate the effort. It seemed like she did. She still had this.

He looked at her for some more moments, before starting to speak "Listen. You probably do not remember me at all. You stated it and it is quite obvious. We had been friends since i can remember myself and by the way, i have a rather good memory. My father is a duke and i was basically raised in the palace with you, since we spent most of our time together. Even your father did not mind having me around, no matter how many pranks we were laying upon him. When you were older, your father had started to think of your future, which means your marriage. You were a princess anyway, you needed a good future. Things were pretty clear. You had to marry one of the available noble mermen that were close to your age and the best candidate for this was me. Your father already knew my personality, he approved of it and the fact you and i were so close, just settled things down. When we found out, we were delighted and we had started making plans for our future. Actually we even imagined our dream house, in a golden beach so you could lay under the sun that you so much liked"

Kai let a sigh and then continued "The conclusion is obvious. You and i would be wife and husband if you were not kidnapped. From the moment we found out this would happen, i already felt the obligations that came with it, even if it wasn't needed. So can you imagine how i felt when you disappeared? When the girl i wanted to spend my life with was taken away from me? I had to find you. I had to find you no matter what. I wanted it to be the one who would find you. But this was declined. Both our fathers agreed that a child would not succeed on finding the princess when the best warriors and soldiers were already searching. So...as soon as i became an adult, on my birthday, i packed my things, presented myself in front of the council with both of our fathers there and i told them that this night, i would start the journey to find the one who was supposed to become my wife. It was a matter of life goal and honor. I could not tolerate that someone would put such dishonor on your father...on me and kidnap you. So i left and i haven't stopped searching, until then. We have the same age by the way" he informed her.

He then rolled from the laid position he was in and sat up "So now that you know all this, could you please recall what you just told me and consider it impossible like i do? The disappointment i fell is not you. It is that even after all these years, i can not just hold you and take you back in the palace. I came too late. Your memory has been lost already. If i were with you sooner, things wouldn't be like that probably! But i will find a way. I will find a way to make you remember. If i was locked somewhere for all these years, no new memories would be made and even if i forgot things naturally, i would still remember the people i loved, even if i couldn't remember your faces. The fact that you can not remember me, someone who was a part of your daily routine and who you had made plans with, means that something else is going on. I would accept that you did not recognize me. I have changed a lot as you did, but forgetting me completely...no, this i can not accept! My life goal is not yet completed. I will get you back to your father and maybe he will be able to do something about this. If he can't, i will return back here to find out on my own what is wrong with that place! Because, there was certainly something wrong!" he decided and he seemed too stubborn to let her change his mind "Nothing of this is your fault and i blame you for nothing. But i won't be in peace, unless i get the Serina i used to know back. In other circumstances, i would just try to win your heart again, but i know something has been done to you. Something...is blocking your mind! Your memory loss is not your fault!" he informed and after that he pushed himself in the water so he could swim around some, without diving to calm himself down.

At least he hadn't shouted, or did anything that would scare her. He had spoken with intense, yet he was still calm. He didn't want to break the trust he had from her already and scaring her or annoying her, wouldn't do.

Sirena listened to Kai and the conviction he held in his voice when he talked about their plans when they were little. It broke her heart a little to hear about how much she meant to him and how it was all ripped away. Another part of her felt sad and scared about all of this. What if she never got her memories back? Would he just search high and low for the one he used to know and try to make her into her past self? When would his anger at the one who did this to her soon turn on her? A million questions bounced around in her head as she listened to him.
it scared her to think about the girl she used to be. While she wanted to remember who he was, what was the point?

Did he really think they would just pick up where they left off? Centuries had passed between the last time they had been together and Sirena was now a completely different person. She had grown into a different woman than the little girl she used to be and had different experiences that Kai ever had. One thing was really bothering her as she stood and crossed her arms over her chest. Sirena began to pace along the sand as her brow furrowed. Should she be angry? Sad? She wasn’t so sure but listening to him explain her past set forth a storm of emotions in her.

“Are you so hell bent on making me into that girl again that you are blinded by who i am now? In the time we’ve been apart i’ve grown up if you haven’t noticed. Those dreams we had together as children were ripped away from us and i can’t remember them. Did you ever stop to think that i dreamt up some new ones when i was away that don’t involve you since i had no idea who you were? I’m not that same little girl you used to know as a child. I’ve been on my own for years, trapped by someone or something that i didn’t have a clue about. I wish none of this ever happened but it did. I can’t go back and fix the past and neither can you. Did you stop to think about whether or not i want those memories back or not? Who would i be with all those memories and feelings back? Would i still be me or the little girl from centuries ago? What do you even know about the present me? We’ve been reunited for half a day and all you can talk about is the past and have never once asked me what kinds of things i like and not what i used to like. You knew the little Sirena from long ago but you don’t know me. To me it looks like your only concern is trying to make me into something that was lost a long time ago. Maybe it’s time to let her go and really see who’s really in front of you.”

Sirena hadn’t meant to let out all of her frustration like that but he wasn’t seeing how much she was hurting. They both were and she saw that. He grieved a love that was lost so many years ago while she hurt from not being what he wanted. If they wanted any future together then they needed to move past the past and look at what was in front of them. He had held onto a dream that would never be again. They were two different people that had no clue about the other. Sirena wanted to know more about the Kai in front of her instead about hearing about what they had been like in the past. It was a clean slate. Two strangers meeting for the first time. It could be the beginning of something new but he had to let go of the past and look forward to the future. Maybe one day she would get her memories back but that couldn’t just be the reason why they were together. The hope of someone getting back all the reasons why they loved you couldn’t be the bases of a relationship. It would always feel like she wouldn’t live up to his expectations and they would fail. But now they had the opportunity to fall in love all over again and that was something Sirena was willing to take a dive for.

The storm of emotions in her began to take on form outside of her body as water from ocean snaked up the sand and began to swirl around her. Over the years she had honed in her power as a demi-god and sea spirit to the point where it was simply an extension of her. Since she had been in water all that time, nothing ever really happened when she there and she never got this upset to the point where her power tried to protect her from whatever was making her upset. The water swirled as it closed up making a solid sphere around her. The tears that dripped down her cheeks went unnoticed since the water could not be penetrated by anyone and clouded over to protect her from curious eyes. No one not even her father himself could have crossed the barrier of the water. It was something Sirena hadn’t noticed the sphere since she put her head in her hands as the water had just started to leave the ocean. Somewhere deep inside her was trying to protect herself from the pain she was experiencing.

((OCC~ Sorry. I know it's a lot but i'm just trying to give them a clean slate to get to know more about each other. 4laugh ))
