They have missed a whole few things from the books. I'm not a reader, yet, but I had a scan through it (not fussed on spoilers, personally) and there are good stuff that they could do. But I heard that season 5 will stray from the books.

i hate reading a book before the movie or show. because the movie/show always falls short of my expectations and i become very disappointing, which is silly i know but i cant help it. So I wait till the show/movie is out before i read the book, that way the book just adds details 3nodding

I usually re read the books, or watch the show. One episode every night weekend. When the next season comes on, you should be finishing season 4. And it's a good way to refresh your memory on fuzzy details.
