INTRODUCTION
Update 3/24/25- It is with a heavy heart (but also an optimistic one) that I officially announce my retirement of the Lost Items of Gaia thread.
For almost ten years now I've tried to keep the mantle burning, but to be honest... I'm not that interested in Gaia in its current state, and lost items are few and far between. I feel that my absence from the thread has been noticed by others, and that this announcement comes as no surprise. However, I'd still be deeply honored if someone else wants to take up the duty of archiving these lost items, and organizing the frankly sloppy mess I've left behind. No permisssion is necessary, all I ask is that you credit me for finding the images for Snakes on an avatar- this is the only thing in the thread that I consider my personal finding. All else was found by others over the span of 20 years as a community effort, and it would be absurd of me to try and gatekeep what was (and has always been) a group project.
While my interest in Gaia has waned (if I can be frank- this is due to the company's lack of support for much-desired features that the community ACTUALLY wants, and the continuous money-hungry endeavors like daily cash shop updates and sinking the community's hard earned cash into features that are despised sitewide like Avi Chat and Towns 3), my love for the community has never faded. The forums have always been filled with bright, vibrant individuals (yes, even the trolls) and I feel a special appreciation for those who have contributed towards my little slice of the forums. When I first started the Lost Items of Gaia thread, I never in a thousand years thought that it would get over 200 votes, that Summer Noveau would be released, or that Lanzer himself would take notice of my contributions (even if that's a 'lame claim to fame' style recognition, where someone else asked him about the contents of my thread!). I could not have done any of this without your contributions and support, and I will forever be grateful for your part in what I consider an extremely special and important point of my life.
At some point I would like to begin working again on the offsite version, but please do not anticipate this being updated quickly or frequently- On top of feeling burned out on the site, I also have recently been promoted to a full-time position, which means that I have very little free time that I would like to use to focus on other endeavors.
Much love,
P0LYBIUS
(PS: this is not me quitting, so if you ever have any questions or just want to chat, I'll be here- just less often ♥)
Disclaimer: This thread is released for entertainment purposes only. Please do not harass mods demanding that these items be released to the public. If you want an item shown here to be released, POLITELY ask a mod or make a petition- this has worked in the past with formerly-unreleased items!
Additionally, THE POLL IS FOR FUN ONLY. I have no affiliation with the mods, and your vote on the poll will not impact how quickly an item is released, if it is released at all. As said above, if you want an item to be released, make a petition.
And a third Disclaimer: I will only list unreleased items if 1. the item in question has gone unreleased for over a year, or 2. the item in question was previously unreleased, but was then later released (as in the case of the Easter 2k19 event item). While this was always a rule (out of respect for the artists and their hard work), I feel like I should publicly mention it now that I have more contributions/subscribers to this thread.
On the early days of Gaia, many items would be developed and sent to developer's accounts for testing, but be unavailable for the rest of the public. However, most of the time these items would wind up getting leaked in one way or another, leading to a huge discussion as to whether or not these items would be eventually released.
If an item was released after its initial leak, the link will lead to the MP listing. However, if the item is still unreleased, then the link will lead to the source I found the item from.
I'm currently looking for some lost screenshots and media related to this thread- If you have any screenshots of the lost items mentioned here, I'd really appreciate the help!
Updates!
Update 6/6/18- Spaces added for visibility. Also, if an item was leaked via announcement images, I left the first date marker as 'leaked', but if the item was found by inserting numbers on mp at random I changed the first date marker as 'added' to indicate that the item was found by digging rather than admin error.
Update 6/28/18- Marked all items that have been removed entirely from the site with ❎.
Update 11/8/18- Added a 'changed' category for items who have had poses/descriptions/etc. changed
Update 1/3/19- Updated with icons, sorted by date, and found some more lost items! Also added poll!
Update 1/30/19- Not sure if this is a recent occurrence or if it's why the poses were broken in the first place, but all poses on Ai no Sensou have been deleted except for the thumbnail. Because of this, I'm in the process of backing up all preview and thumbnail images linked below (all high risk items have already been backed up).
Update 3/2/19- Cleaned up formatting one more time to remove those pesky hyphens, as well as divided the tabs up into two sections- clothing (all wearable items, including base hair and eyes) and game items (items for things like games, alchemy, etc)
Update 3/20/19- My theory was absolutely correct... Snakes on an avatar WAS later repurposed for Head Case! I found the equippable versions of Snakes on an avatar in the avi builder- Don't worry about them getting taken down, I've already got screenshots saved.
Update 4/25/19- Tons of the images were broken, but have now been fixed. Thank you for your patience!
Update 4/29/20- We've been noticed by Lanzer! Hopefully that means that other items get released in the future!
Update 6/15/20- As Astras are officially disabled for good, and only viewable in flash spaces, I am no longer rummaging through avi builder- rather, I'm shifting my focus into recording the animations of every single astra, to properly preserve them. Seeing as there's currently 1,000+ astras, this will be a HUGE task. Thank you for all of your help so far, and I look forward to your assistance with this new endeavor!
Update 11/18/21- We've gotten too powerful! Due to hitting the text limit, the post was finally divided into three parts- Released/Unreleased Clothing, Unreleased Game, and Etc. Additionally, Etc section was cleaned up and organized by year, to match the rest of the thread's sorting system.
Update 11/28/21- We're still too powerful! After hitting text limit yet again, another section was added exclusively for items from the scrapped crafting update. This section will not be organized by date, since many of the items are now unavailable and therefore unable to have their projected release dates verified.
Update 10/16/22- Beginning the groundworks for a full thread revamp! Added week-long poll (rip old poll :') ) Planned improvements include better organization, better page formatting, and making it easier to find specific items.
Click here for more details on what each option on the poll would mean!
To Access Gaia on Webarchive
Since Gaia has a script to redirect to the current site when you try to access it with webarchive, you will need to disable javascript to view the linked webarchives below. To do this, you can use this extension for Firefox, this extension for Chrome, and this guide for Safari. While I can personally vouch for the Firefox one, I have not personally tested and therefore cannot endorse any other extensions or guides.
