Most of you probably have these threads bookmarked/subscribed, but there are people who haven't, and there are newbies. "Check out the stickies and guides," as simple a suggestion it may be, can seem a little overwhelming at first. "How many are there?" "How many do I need to read?"
So I have compiled a list of all the guides known to me, as well as threads such as the UFO thread and the monthly TF thread. You'll never have to hunt those threads down again - or, if you already have them bookmarked, you'll - um - save bookmark space. And newbies will know where the guides are and what they're about. So please enjoy ...
The Fishing Linklist
Angelic Rod - "Angelic Rod? Wuzzat?" "OMG, I saw someone fishing with one!" "Is there a Demonic Rod?" "How do I get one?" A lot of questions and rumors surround this extraordinary rod, but truth has been distinguished from fiction.
The Official Angelic Rod Thread has all the known facts, plus pictures.
Bait Degradation - "Bait degrada-whatsit?" "Something like F bait starts as A ... I dunno." Bait degradation means, in simple terms, that bait gets worse as you use it. It's important info for every fisher, so be sure you understand it!
Fayt's Bait Guide is an in-depth guide, complete with an FAQ and a glossary.
Fishing Rods - "What fishing rod's the best?" "Is it worth it to upgrade?" What fishing rod should you get? Fisher A may prefer the Distance, but Fisher B may have an easier time with the Performance. Neither is wrong - it's a matter of preference. There is no best rod currently available to the public [see Angelic Rod].
Need some help deciding which fishing rod to get? includes screenshots of the lines of both the normal and the upgraded versions of each rod, as well as prices and casting distances.
Filtering - "What is filtering?" "How do you filter?" "It's too hard, you can't tell the fish apart!" Filtering is using your knowledge of how the fish and trash of each lake move, so you can purposely let go - filter out - the things you don't want.
Transcendant's Filtering Guide describes the movements of all the fish of each lake, including descriptions of rare fish movements from people who have caught them, as well as schedule tips for trophy fishers.
Trophy Fishing - "Ooh ... look at their trophy!" "How do you get one?" "OMG look at the scores - how am I supposed to keep up?" Trophy fishing can be difficult, depending on your ability, what position you're going for, and how you fish.
Sigma's Trophy Guide has strategies, reccomendations, statistics, an FAQ, and a lot of other useful info - plus a neat Greasemonkey script.
Transcendant's Filtering Guide also has a very useful schedule [see Filtering].
Exchanging Fish - "How many cans do I need for a Tin Hat?" "What can I get from exchanging?" You can exchange your fish to Logan for some nifty items - but how much of what fish do you need to get that awesome helm?
The Fish Exchange explains exactly what you need to exchange to get each item, and also has previews of each item and an FAQ.
Fishing In General - "How do I keep the fish in the lines?" "How do I save?" "What lakes are there?" "I'm new to fishing - what do I do, exactly?" Fear not - the kind fishers of the fishing forum are here to help.
Gaidin's Fishing Guide covers starting out, the fish, exchanging, bait and rods, the scoreboard, and more - pretty much everything a new fisher needs to get going. A must-read for confused new fishers, or old fishers looking to brush up on their know-how.
The Fishing Forum Ubersticky has an in-depth fishing FAQ, as well as the rules of the fishing forum, an explanation of in-game reporting, and more - another must read, especially since you're supposed to read the rules of each forum before you post. (;
Other Links - These aren't guides, but other useful threads, such as the monthly Top Fishers thread and the Rare Masks Count.
The UFO Contest is a popular fishing contest with some great prizes, donated by fellow fishers.
Top Fishers October 2007 is this month's thread for fishers basically to chat to one another in - keeping to the subject of fish, of course, sharing how their trophy runs are going and such - plus it contains some useful information. [This link will be updated monthly.]
The Rare Fish Report is where the capture, sale, and purchase of rare fish are recorded, and some useful info about rare fish.
The Rare Masks Count is a compiled list of all the fishing exchange items, particularly the rare masks.
Where's the Fishy Love? is a feedback thread addressing fishing-related issues such as the bot problem and glitches.
