About Aquariums

Gaia Aquariums was released September 23, 2008, followed by the signature game Booty Grab on January 27, 2009. Users are able to customize their tank, add and feed fish, and tap tanks. Since then a variety of guilds, guides, and threads have been made, contributing to the formation of the Aquariums/Booty Grab Community. Unfortunately, the game requires Adobe Flash. This requirement makes the feature tedious for many users to access and will become more challenging to access with the demise of Flash at the end of 2020. There have been hints at how to develop a non-Flash version of Aquariums. In the mean time, this party is to celebrate the past 12 years of Gaia Aquariums. Happy booty grabbing!

General Guidelines

Adhere to Gaia Online Rules and Terms of Service at all times.
Give all thread moderators and game managers 2-3 days before reporting missing scores.
Mules for the purpose of roleplaying, fun, bumping/grabbing tanks are permitted.
Mules for the purpose of increasing odds of winning chance prizes are not permitted and will forfeit prizes.

Fish Bunny Ears
During Easter 2009 all fish sported cute bunny ears. Screenshot by Shadey Kitty.

Aquarium Creepy Phonograph
This item used to turn your fish into skeleton fish when the song "Calm Water" was playing during Halloween 2008.
Unfortunately, that song is no longer an option, so the phonograph is just a regular item now. Screenshot by Shadey Kitty.

Fish Halloween Costumes
For Halloween fish used to wear different types of costumes. The costumes have not appeared in recent years.

Snowing in the Tanks
During Winter of 2009 there was snow falling in the tanks: YouTube Video.

Double Booty Week and Double Booty Weekend
It rained gold during March 2009 and December 2009!
Various fish also dropped green coins on certain days.
Double Booty Weekend was still ongoing in 2011 and
prior to this event red glowing coins were worth 4 points instead of 5.

Booty Grab was initially going to be called "Bounty Hunter" when the developers were working on it; it is still referred to as "Bounty Hunter" in the internal code.


Absol - Ruler of Chaos, at one point, had 19 fish in his aquarium. (18 airsharks and 1 hermit cat)


BACK WHEN I WAS A BOY

Tank lists weren't even a thing. People had good tanks. People got invited to threads. You had to PM everybody to post and it was all sorts of tedious.

Good tanks regularly maxed out (on players) because there was a limited amount of people who could afford big tanks. Because they regularly maxed out, there were more people to bump the threads.
Also when analyzers were first created, they were able to accurately predict the next glow. (Due to how Gaia previously coded the game). People would wait around for their glow time, and bump their threads. Eventually Gaia said "No no. That's not in the spirit of the game" and changed how they were coded so that we only end up with about 2 minutes of warning.

Seriously, though, I nominate King Awesomolocity for maintaining the timers as long as he did and giving us many great years of his homemade, easy to use feature. Shout out to Absol Ruler Of Chaos for writing the original code for it too! You two are missed! I also miss my friends Nashoba1, Purtie (with all my heart!), and Niamh Cuina!
They were all so very sweet and influential parts of all of us!

Definitely Niamh Cuina! heart Niamh was the closest friend I had on Gaia and she was the one to keep me in touch with the BG community through her guild. Still miss her...
More recently, there are some users that I remember back from my earlier BG days that bring a smile to my face every time I see their bumps on my threads and that made me keep all those aquariums for all this time (at least while BG was more profitable for the player... sweatdrop ), but those would be waaaay too many to nominate... lol

Hey I would like to nominate purplewiz, She helped make booty grab more visible by posting in other forums when she was glowing. I always hung out in the Achievement Forums and would see her pop in, help with someone's achievement and give you the chance to grab her glow.
