We could (and should) change the order of parsing so only plain text is converted to emoticons (and not things such as URLs), but it's a huge task and will likely cause a lot of bugs.

All the flash dev resources are directed to towns 2 and the summer Olympics. We will have a beach though.

Overhauling Guilds is definitely something we'd like to do but we currently don't have any resources to put toward doing it. It would require a massive undertaking on our part to be able to completely catch Guilds up with forums and right now we just don't have the Devs to put toward something like that. That said, we do try to make small changes to Guilds when we can (adding spoiler tags, commas to numbers, etc) but any larger changes aren't likely to happen soon.

Well. I didnt mean like. Download a toolbar to change the skin, I was thinking something in the profile options. You have profile themes right now such as Classic and Current, so, There could totally be a tab saying "Gaiaonline skin" and have options such as go-gaia, 2004 gaiaonline, 2005, 2007 ect.
Then all that you would have to do is have a small line put into the index of each page going "profile option x = blabla skin.css" which could change the page simply <3
Only downside is there would be slightly more work with every page added to gaia. More skins = More changes to deal with.

I know we don't have as many users as we've had in the past (thanks, expanding internet smile ), but actually we've been pretty steady for awhile. We don't have any plans to go anywhere anytime soon.
As far as prices go, we don't do very many sales for a variety of reasons. But nothing's set in stone.
It's a summer event, it's not what the events team has been working on the past few months.
Resort World is going to stay up to the best of our knowledge. It's a third party contract so we don't have full control.
We're also bringing in some more games from Viximo.
Thank you for responding, and I fully understand that your contract is distance from control. However, just to let you know. Some people who truly love resort world and I will not give up fighting to keeping this game on gaia online. I wish you won't give up on us for at least trying. Some people are not even giving up on Backyard monsters. So, I hope to see more of those games. It's coming in slowly because I remember Viximo said the same thing months ago wink
I greatly appreciate your efforts to gain support and I understand it must be frustrating to be unsure about the future of a game. We hate losing games and we try to maintain as much control over the future of them. OMGPop was sort of a special case because of their buy-out and we just didn't have enough flex for Zynga. Here's to hoping we don't have to go through that again!

1) We're keeping the game available to play, and will be doing bug fixes and small improvements when we can. But we're not going to be doing any further major work on it.
2) This I don't know - if you can, please post about this in the Bug Reports thread, which is the best way to get our devs' attention.
3) Our newest one, that we're working on now, will be available on Gaia as soon (or even before) it's available on FB smile

Thanks for the post! We're sorry you miss VJ, but unfortunately, it won't be coming back for a variety of reasons. Not a lot of people were using it, and there were repeated copyright infringement issues. For these reasons, we removed it. Hope you understand why, and that you can find new places to hang out with friends!

These all depend on partnerships we can get with the rights owners. We're working on a couple, but they typically take a long time to finish. We hope to have one that we think will be pretty popular in the next month or so (but we can't talk about it yet).
Our Admin team typically makes sure that people are having fun (but also behaving) on the site. That can include contests and fun, but also moderation and rule enforcement.
It's on the list of things to do but currently can't offer a timeline for it. There are some other inventory updates coming first so just sit tight.
We have a thread set up (by Stein) for users to report "green goo" errors. We actually fix quite a bit of them, so keep letting us know.
It is indeed shut down, sorry. Any conventions in your area? DJ Helsing usually has merchandise on hand for contest give-a-ways, etc.

We always have a reason to ban a user, there is never a ban that is placed for "no reason." We do not simply ban a user because they completely 100% innocently receive an illegitimate item. We have to believe that they knew the source of the item before we ban. However, if a user has some sort of proof that they were completely innocent, then they can appeal the ban by filing a ticket at http://www.gaiaonline.com/help
Yeah, we typically get tons of solicitations, so most of the time we don't respond. But it never hurts to try!

Thanks for the questions! Regarding the "nerf", if you are referring to removing the gold cap, this is probably not going to happen. That is in place to help keep the amount of gold going into the economy at a reasonable rate.
As for advertising zOMG!, if I recall correctly, that actually was quite heavily advertised when it came out on various websites, in magazines, art cards, posters, conventions, etc. I'm curious what differences you see between how we advertised zOMG! and Soul Crash smile

It's possible but for the moment unlikely. Those games were by an artist who was using their free time to make the games at home for that event. They were made in a program they were learning outside of their normal Gaia responsibilities.

We're not aware of anything being funky with quest formula distribution, but we can check on it. On a separate but related note, we're looking to release a change in the next couple weeks or so that will hopefully help address some of the formula rarity issues going on.
We'll be experimenting with a new self-moderation system in the new towns. If it works we might be able to use it across other features. I know this doesn't directly answer your question but I wanted to let you know we were aware of the problems and have some strategies we want to try.

Being in this business, you get used to criticism pretty quick. But still, everyone here is human, and it's not fun to get raked over the coals for something you worked hard on. I would personally like the skin used up until mid-2005 back when you had Gaia-Hangouts (You and a friends avatar at the topleft instead of just your own avatar, chatting up there and ect, Not saying you should re-add hangouts since the meebo toolbar renders it obsolete, but I would love to have optional skins while browsing gaia,)
this would give users their own consistent experience with gaiaonline. Sure new skins and re-building the sites appearance is nice and all, but every time gaia changed, Myself and everyone I know went "I miss the old theme! What is all of this stuff! How do I navigate!"

Gold Mountain (the shop that currently does nothing but offer tokens) will be shut down, not Prize & Joy.
Once we confirm that the NPC from Gold Mountain is successfully moved to the Prize & Joy store and that tokens are available in Prize & Joy in all browsers, we will shut down Gold Mountain.

I noticed that we are losing backyard monsters on July 15th, and I am now forming a Petition to try to keep Resort World on Gaia Online to be sent to the company in Moscow, Viximo Games, and your company of names of people who wanted Resort World to stay on Gaia. Will Resort World meet the same fate as Backyard monsters and Mahjongg Dimension?
Due to these games leaving off the site like OMGpop, people are starting to not put money into these games nor your site anymore because they fear they are going to be taken away in the end. I noticed that we are losing backyard monsters on July 15th, and I am now forming a Petition to try to keep Resort World on Gaia Online to be sent to the company in Moscow, Viximo Games, and your company of names of people who wanted Resort World to stay on Gaia. Will Resort World meet the same fate as Backyard monsters and Mahjongg Dimension?
Due to these games leaving off the site like OMGpop, people are starting to not put money into these games nor your site anymore because they fear they are going to be taken away in the end. So, why bother supporting the game. Some even think your site may shut down later in the long run. Overall, my question is on Resort World. How long will this game last?

Resort World is going to stay up to the best of our knowledge. It's a third party contract so we don't have full control.
We're also bringing in some more games from Viximo.

Some people who truly love resort world and I will not give up fighting to keeping this game on gaia online. I wish you won't give up on us for at least trying. Some people are not even giving up on Backyard monsters. So, I hope to see more of those games. It's coming in slowly because I remember Viximo said the same thing months ago wink
I greatly appreciate your efforts to gain support and I understand it must be frustrating to be unsure about the future of a game. We hate losing games and we try to maintain as much control over the future of them. OMGPop was sort of a special case because of their buy-out and we just didn't have enough flex for Zynga. 1) We're keeping the game available to play, and will be doing bug fixes and small improvements when we can. But we're not going to be doing any further major work on it.
2) This I don't know - if you can, please post about this in the Bug Reports thread, which is the best way to get our devs' attention.
3) Our newest one, that we're working on now, will be available on Gaia as soon (or even before) it's available on FB smile

Thanks for the post! We're sorry you miss VJ, but unfortunately, it won't be coming back for a variety of reasons. Not a lot of people were using it, and there were repeated copyright infringement issues. For these reasons, we removed it. Can we expect any more changes to alchemy fourmulas like how the caches can be made with common items found on gaia or will we continue to have to depend on a drop system that is less then helpfull to the newer users?

We always have a reason to ban a user, there is never a ban that is placed for "no reason." We do not simply ban a user because they completely 100% innocently receive an illegitimate item. We have to believe that they knew the source of the item before we ban. However, if a user has some sort of proof that they were completely innocent, then they can appeal the ban by filing a ticket at http://www.gaiaonline.com/help

Thanks for the questions! Regarding the "nerf", if you are referring to removing the gold cap, this is probably not going to happen. That is in place to help keep the amount of gold going into the economy at a reasonable rate.
As for advertising zOMG!, if I recall correctly, that actually was quite heavily advertised when it came out on various websites, in magazines, art cards, posters, conventions, etc. I'm curious what differences you see between how we advertised zOMG! and Soul Crash smile

Nope, no rules like that. We basically make items that we think will appeal to a wide swath of our Community, and that fit within the theme of the release.

Gaia would be a very interesting place if I have power to reject every item that get released, though fortunately for all of us, I don't go around doing that. smile Artists draw whatever inspires them and whatever they think would be appreciated by Gaians. We do have more feminine items and it might be because of more female users giving feedback or because we have more female artists in our team also.

Hihihi. So I'd like to formally request a couple of simple items for jokey and/or general purposes. One being a bottle of chloroform. This could create a knocked-out expression when held near the face, and would be super-simple to make. Also, a rope. Just a rope. The item could be called Rope and have several poses including a lasso and your avatar being tied up with it. A piece of duct tape over the mouth would also be cool.

Centaur was a race created specifically during the last Olympic event, unfortunately after that we haven't came across another event or idea related to that. Probably if more Gaians ask for it we'll put more items in.

Any viewer can stop the animation of an item. If you are viewing your own avatar (in the header, the /avatar/ page, or in a "preview" pane) or all animated avatars (like in forums, guilds, etc.) you can opt to change an account setting of a checkbox (in /avatar/ and "preview" panes).

I made a pokemon trainer avi on tektek using items I own. Now, there is one layering problem on gaia that stops me from actually wearing the avi.
The way I would like to wear the boots and pants is like this

So I guess my main question would be, are you eventually going to make it so gaian's have a choice in the layering of certain items? Oh, that is a tough challenge since the boots were made to go under pants, and we don't have an option to specifically layer items. I can look into potentially introducing a second pose at a different layer.

Right now, a bundle isn't feasible, but I've got a work around for all the serious alchemists out there. I will personally start selling pancakes in bulk to alchemists who need them for formulas! Alchemy is coming up on its 1 year b-day, any chance we are going to see any new formulas?
Also I have seen some users suggest alchemy as a way to re-release the 05 grombie skin. It seems like it could be a win, win situation of releasing the skin for those who lust over it while making it something you have to put effort into getting. Is there any chance we may see the 3 grombie skin potions make an appearance in alchemy? It could also be a possible place to release the overseer skin. ninja

That's a great suggestion, I'll pass it down, and also ask if other Gaians are okay with old event items being re-released.

i just really would like an answer its my first time here >,<
okay im not sure if this is a good question or idea but is it posible that you guys
would ever make another game to release for the public, i mean like the kind of
mini game you guys released in 2009, for Xmas, wich i still have and love to play
sometimes it has gone down through 4 computers in my house having saved it
from broken ones and i still have it today in my desktop.
so yeah is it ever posible that you guys would do something like that again?

It's possible but for the moment unlikely. Those games were by an artist who was using their free time to make the games at home for that event. They were made in a program they were learning outside of their normal Gaia responsibilities.

Hey admins...I opened 62 alchemist cases and um no quest formula does that sound right? Just wondering if I'm just super unlucky or....
Also sidenote: when I equip marionette and saint ciel agape hair cut and try and put on the demon vassel pigtails it doesn't let me...it'd be super awesome if you could fix that ^.^

We're not aware of anything being funky with quest formula distribution, but we can check on it. On a separate but related note, we're looking to release a change in the next couple weeks or so that will hopefully help address some of the formula rarity issues going on.

This has had me troubled for some time now. I've been around in the Virtual Hangouts on Gaia and have been seeing tons of trolling. Many aren't afraid of being reported because nothing is being done to them. Many of these trollers have had many reports against them and nothing has been done to them. Is there a way to make reporting more efficient and the consequences madea bit more a swift?

We'll be experimenting with a new self-moderation system in the new towns. If it works we might be able to use it across other features. I know this doesn't directly answer your question but I wanted to let you know we were aware of the problems and have some strategies we want to try.

Being in this business, you get used to criticism pretty quick. But still, everyone here is human, and it's not fun to get raked over the coals for something you worked hard on. I'm sure everyone's felt bad at some point, but honestly, it's far outweighed by all the awesome comments we get on a daily basis too.
