The end of Flash support for 2021 and Fiash games moving forward.
As of December 31, 2020, the official support for Adobe Flash had came to an end. Adobe Flash had been a terrific platform for producing web animations, graphic design, as well as web based games since 2000. Though eventually the platform became more powerful, and along came more and more security issues, and Adobe eventually seized support for the Flash platforms.
All popular browsers have now seized support for Adobe Flash. However, Flash games can still be played by clicking on the icon beside the URL bar and selecting "Allow Adobe Flash" or similar settings.
Gaia had been prioritizing resources to 1) ensure continued access to certain Flash games and 2) refresh existing Flash games to newer platforms. As Gaia had so many Flash games built through the years, converting all of Gaia's Flash games into other platforms at once is a near impossible task given the amount of resources we have.
Currently, some of Gaia's Flash games can be converted into its stand alone application to be run on Windows or Mac OS platforms. We started work with zOMG and a beta version is currently available.
To play zOMG as its own application:
First, please download the Adobe Air installer here (
Windows) (
Macintosh)
You can download the beta version of the
zOMG application here
Here are a couple of Gaia Flash that will be converted to its application soon:
Aquarium
Housing
Fishing
Gaia Auto
Meanwhile, Gaia have a development team building a new version of Gaia Towns that will run on Unity. The new version of Towns will have brand new activities, features, as well as a new version of Gaia Fishing.
We are also starting work to convert some of Gaia's Flash games into HTML5. Starting with Jigsaw, slots and cards.
As for the rest of Gaia's Flash games, we will prioritize resource to eventually convert the rest of our games based on popularity. These are games such as:
Tiles
Word Bump
Switchem
SmashBlox
Word Blitz
Stack Attack
Our apologies that these projects have not started earlier due to a lack of resources, but we are confident that we will have the core Flash experiences converted very soon, and we will continue to ensure that our legacy features are still available.
