Interesting topic. Anyway whether a staff member uses a mule or not, they are free to vend on it. But yes showing that there is 133 trillion gold circulating through the marketplace and the increase gold cap shows how damaging the effects of gold generating is. Whether the gold was acquired through vending or purchasing with cash or buying gold generators, that much gold was generated by the legal product that Gaia sells. From befriending a few staff members and talking to a few mods and FAs, Gaia does not give them gold. Any gold they earn, they acquire themselves. Any further information about inflation can be learned from this cute little comic here:
Coco and Kiki explain inflation
Gold is easier to acquire now that previous years. Like talking to a new Gaian who idk was a mule or not, but they bought an item within a month that would have taken me years to quest for thanks to purchasing gold generators. So I'm tired of vendors being the scape-goat of high prices when it is the increase of gold input in the marketplace that is increasing it.
Anyway notice the yearly graph of when gold generators were put into the cash shop in September/October:

It is more than it has ever been in any other years. I guess my conclusion to all of this I don't expect Gaia to fix inflation since it's making them lots of money. But I'm sadden that the community cares more about items and gold than keeping the main features of the site like the manga going. What's the point of having pixels if there is no longer a site left to enjoy them on? Gaiaonline is really boring compared to previous years due to lack of fun events, less story line, less staff interaction, and focus on everything to only to make money no matter how dull it is. Gaia has the tendency of doing everything to death in their cash shops until it gets boring. I'm happy for what I have with my avi and I don't care if I haven't been able to use the marketplace since August 2013. I bored with missing chat features like Vivox and Meebo I used to enjoy, having games updated, forums updated, guilds updated, rallies, fishing, aquariums updated, and just seeing the staff having fun and being silly playing baseball and rubber duck races. I'm glad the staff I befriended don't work for Gaia Interactive anymore. The company and site has lost all its joy and isn't interactive anymore. Sorry to vent but I'm just disappointed with the site now. It had so much potential to be as big and community oriented and creative as the Sims franchise, but I don't see it anymore.
