There is much difference from universal healthcare, when compared to the country of the United States. And there is no mistake that Americans take liberty too seriously, and with amble amounts of vanity and pride. Now, what does this have to do with Islam and Universal Healthcare: there is much to discuss? In Islam, there is a pillar called Zakat. There are five pillars in all in Islam. Zakat is actually a tax. What kind of tax you ask? Zakat is a tax to help the poor and lower classes in the Muslim World with providing general welfare to them. The Zakat can be compared to as a means to create a welfare state for those in need. In Iran, for example, Universal Healthcare is provided because of the Zakat. Those who are taxed, provide revenue for the Islamic Republic of Iran to provide healthcare services to all. And what is even more interesting, is that in Iran, the healthcare industry is nationalized; as that is the only way healthcare services can be provided in an efficient way. When you enter a society, you agree to give up some freedom for protection. Americans are filled with the notion that the country can defeat all in its path. But that is simply not correct.
Here is an argument I am putting forth: America can learn something very important from Islam, and that is the pillar of Zakat. Those who are faithful to Islam, follow all five pillars. But, Zakat is the most important one Americans can learn from, as this shows how Islam is in community (Ummah), and how America can become stronger by providing for those most disadvantaged.
