Advertisements and Sponsorships.

- Work harder to get rid of the "illegal" ads. These are the ones over PG-13, the ones that get in the way of posting (the Circuit City ads), the ones with music, and the pop ups. I've seen the process for reporting these ads, and it's something that your average user won't be able to do, or want to do. It's a long, complicated process. Let mods work on them while browsing.

About the aquariums-
Morally speaking,
would it be considered fair to
complain about charging money,
but then demand another free feature
that is a task close to being on the MMO-scale?
To create and animate all of the fish from
fishing would be an epic task,
spanning many months, taking the attention
of much needed employees, bringing about the need
for new employees to fill their old spots, more servers, etc,.
Its unreasonable to ask them to add so many free features,
while believing they can do so without charging.
Gaia doesn't use all that money just to pay for servers.

Bull. They had no problem animating and drawing/coding the current fish. Just give it awhile and they'll have as many fish as fishing does. It doesn't really matter, does it?

And again, I never said that they don't need/deserve money.

Yeah. MCs. Where do you think the money goes? To keep the games, to buy new servers and the like. But it's to the point where thats not enough to keep the site running. Its a lot of money. A loooooooooot of money to run this site, offer merchandise (which users requested), go to cons (another request) and have things other than just forums.

And another thing. Yes we pump money into this site. But what do they put it into?

They haven't fixed things that are glitched or have problems like Towns, Games, etc.

Then they come out with features like 'Label Maker'? DID anyone even ask for that? I don't think anyone is saying how they're enjoying that feature or is brought up in conversations frequently. "Hey I labeled you a player yesterday!" In fact, who even remembers we have that feature?

I'm just saying - how is it that they are able to put out features we may/may not even want and not fix things?

Yea they need money to keep the site running but they have enough to implement new things that aren't exactly needed?

I get a feeling that they sometimes have too much on their plates, more than they asked for.

Which could also be a problem, Gaia is trying to inject so much at once. Updates here and there that things get overlooked and forgotten as well. What's the rush though? Are they trying to build up Gaia into this grand website in a short amount of time?

Easter Event anyone?

That's why, I sometimes feel that they're just adding more than they should to their list of things.

Because fixing glitches takes time. There is alot of codes, programming and the like that can give any normal person a headache simply glancing at. I have a good friend who is a programmer. Not for Gaia, but for a gaming company. Seeing the stuff he has to dig through, test and find errors in is nuts @.@
The money goes to servers to keep the site up and running. It keeps this site from being a "you must pay to enter, even the forums portion!" site.
I thought the label maker was lame... XD But they are experimenting to see what we like. I don't see anyone doing the label maker any more, so I always wondered if they got rid of it.
Yeah. They do wind up with lots on their plates, because they are trying to please a site of over 23,000 people. I forget the most logged on...didn't it hit like 100,000 the highest? That is a lot of people to please and there will be people not happy. They are working at it and trying their best to make as many people happy as they can.
A lot of people complained about how dumb Easter was before the previous one, which is why Gaia thought they didn't have to do a whole lot for it. They could of done more, but it's been hard for them. They will be free up once Battle is done though. More freed up then they were. X3
And they are rushing because we users are impatient.

(1) You support it and turn around and complain that they're charging too much. In my mind, I think Gaia could rightly charge more. The size of their operation practically demands it. The cheapest GOOD server available these days cost about 2,000 dollars. That's 200 hundred ten dollar purchases. Because of size, I'd say Gaia probably has at least 300 servers (if they're using the 2k ones, of course, the more expensive ones require less), at least 50 or so back ups... though, I'm nearly positive that's an under-estimate. 2,000 X 350= 600,000. Divide that by ten, and you get a whooping 60,000 ten dollar purchases needed. And that's just the servers. So yeah. I think Gaia has the right to charge. We're all suffering, yes, but that shouldn't be a reason for Gaia to stop. As far as I can tell, there are still people willing to pay... and where those ten dollars don't quite spread far enough across, they get money from sponsors and ads.

(2) My free aquarium works fine actually. Just as promised, my little free goldfish lasted two whole weeks before it died. By that time, I had four other free goldfish ready to be put in just by taking the daily chance each day. There's no need to complain that they "twisted the idea" because its not twisted at all. Its called being practical.

(3)
Quote:
What you did with the zOMG! boxes was extremely unfair, and it was just a ploy to raise more money. You offered tickets that let others play earlier (like SCAS and zEta isn't bad enough) so long as you got money. What about those of us that have been waiting since the day you announced the idea of the Battle System? Do we not matter if we can't pay?

That sounds like complaining to me.

(4) Oh, I know its hard. All the EIs I have? bought with gold, or given as a gift. I too, take art commissions for gold, but even then, I don't usually receive very much. There are other ways to make gold on Gaia besides drawing. Making signs is a popular one, graphics, bumping services, contests such as the much beloved Mil-a-Day giveaway run by Peasant in 2007-! If you look, there are ways to get them. In fact, there are many guilds dedicated to helping users find ways to make gold. IN FACT, Gaia even spotlighted one such guild.

(5) But in complaining about the prices and then going on to list plenty of pricy fixes, you are. Nothing is free. This may be the internet, but people are still working their butts off to get the features users want most running. People want the MMO- they're working on it. People want security- they're getting ready to release a whole bunch of new security features. As for the guilds, they'll get to it. They run well enough for now, so therefore, are not quite as high on their list of prorities. People are working on it, and its shown by the mere fact that the forum changes are appearing in the Guilds. Sit back. Calm down. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Hahaha, those kinds of ads are all sexual either way. Their main intent is to draw rather hormone-high people. :3

XD

And yup... lots of issues with Gaia it seems, haha. Doing too much at once. I guess this is part of growth and change yes? It's just like having a larger house or moving into a mansion. Much more to clean and upkeep. But I guess that's part of the price that comes with when getting bigger/expanding?

My grampa has fish hanging on his wall that he caught. Obviously you take the hook OUT after you catch it and put it in the cooler, so you can use it again.

But you wouldn't wanna put it in your fish tank, ne? I like the hanging it on your wall idea. I think Gaia should do that. Where you go to the fish place thingy and tell Logan to make your fish into a wall decoration. =D

Yeah. They are getting bigger. And anticipating more users joining, especially with the MMO coming along (MMOs always attract people, around the world @.@)

I don't even mind the cash shop. They just need to lower the prices. Common sense will tell you lower prices = more sales. They need to make the site WORTH paying for. Why would I pay, say, $50 a month when I could get banned on whim because of a glitch that was THEIR fault? That's insane and very poor customer service.

Would you buy something from a store if there was a chance that you could step on one wrong space and they take the item back without refunding you?

Usually with bannings there is a chance of appeal depending on cases. And you get banned from being suspected of exploiting said glitch. Its quicker and less harmful to other users if issue is rid of first, before going back to see the truth. I know because I'm going through this myself. My account was banned due to the gaming item glitch.
I don't think anyone pays $50 a month unless they are nuts or rich @.@ I know someone who does about $10-15ish a month. ^^
Yet to hear about items being taken back. Heard they were for when Gaia didn't recieve money from false card accounts. They used to be trusting of users until they were ripped off and users were able to keep the item.

Not always. People are still to this day complaining about unfair bannings from years ago. If you're banned, and then within a week, two weeks TOPS, you're unbanned, that's better. But the way it is right now? No, that's not fair. They didn't even publicly announce the glitch or anything like that.
And in the case of the most recent mass banning, there isn't an easy way for them to tell who glitched/who didn't, I think.
Another point would be that most of the newer users won't know that's abusing a glitch.

I remember I was a newbie to an MMO years ago, and there was a glitch where you got a lot of stat points. My logic was that if it wasn't supposed to happen, it wouldn't be there, and I can guarantee a lot of other users would feel that way about Gaia. And yes, I exploited that glitch, but only now do I realize what I did. Back then it seemed like part of the game, you know what I mean?

Just like how some users are naive and fall for scams, really. Some people just aren't website/internet/game savvy, and they don't understand these things.

I don't know what you mean about items being taken back.

Its true.
Most of those are sponsored ads,
meaning some company comes in and buys
a ton of advertising space, and then sells that space
to the highest bidder.
In fact, I'm going to message an Omnimod right now,
asking for a link to a thread where users can complain
about inappropriate ads.

I sign.
I live in a country where I obviously couldn't buy items from the Cash Shop because our currency isn't in dollars...
So I gotta quest for them if I want one.

And even if I do live in the US, I'm still a kid so I don't have any credit cards and stuff to buy... I'm not earning any income...

So we'd all be wasting money on something intangible. User Image
