Hunters Hunted
This game was just too big to fit on page 1. Ready to enter the forest and track who's tracking whom?

Omnom on Wild Things! Most of these critters hunt somebody, and most of them are hunted by somebody. Check out their menus and make the longest chain you can of who eats whom. For example, a mouse may be eaten by a raccoon which may be eaten by a bobcat: a chain of three animals. I’d probably give you just one Wildflower* for that because I know you can do better. The longer your chain, the more Wildflowers* you win. My thanks to the creators of Into the Forest card game for inspiration.

Note: Of course I couldn’t put all the animals and foods. I left out the preying insects and I lumped all the little birds into one category and stuff like that. Also, I put down what they usually eat. Sure, maybe your Granny’s bunny eats foxes, but most bunnies don’t, so please only use the menus given here. Send in your entries before midnight Pacific Time on Wednesday 5 November please. Only one entry per person, please. Happy hunting!

Wild Things Belles Lettres
That's French for Pretty Writings.

We keeps here some of our recent pretty writings that critters sent to us. But our critters write so many bootiful things we had to make a whole new gallery to keep a lot of them in. So to see more writings and pictures from past times, go to the Wild Things Gallery.

Wood Sorrel
Haiku for Spiders

many legged mouse
feared by citified elephants
protects them from plague

(this might be obtuse, so let me explain - humans, so afraid of the tiny spider, usually don't realize that they protect them from what they should really fear - pestilent bugs of garden, house, and food.)

LynUridain wrote pritty poem
Sunshine on the mountaintops
Falls softly from the sky
And I can only wonder why
Tress and Wolfie still are sleeping.
Thunder rolling and the raindrops
Fall like tears upon the ground
But spring is here, and the sound
Is Nature's joyful weeping.

Come run the paths where we are wild
And free to come and go
And free to learn and free to know
Of life and its grand mystery.
Awake, remember as a child
The trees you climbed, the songs you sang
The waves you rode, the bells you rang.
Remember your grand history.

Wood Sorrel wrote the bootiful Haiku for Crows

shadows overhead
a cacophony in the dusk
black birds meld with night

dragonchrome just writes too cute so sorry squee

- A Nitey Nite Poem for Wild Thingz -

Nitey nite wild thingz what is furry and mild
Nitey nite wild thingz what is wooly and wild
So to our piles of leaves we crawl
Sleepy time dreams come one, come all
Safe and sound wild thingz we be
Safe and sound forever free

LynUridain is the new awesome poet on the scene. *is awed*

Snowfall's Endgame

The landscape falls like crystal dust
From grey and barren sky,
And always Nature sings reply
From cave and forest shimmering:
"For what new purpose, wanderer,
Come you into this place?
To winter, cold and sorrowless--
Come you to harm or harrow us
In my fair kingdom glimmering?"

The Ice Bears call in misery,
In pain and fear and rage.
And I remember still the age
When ice was scarlet, glistening.
So sings the Whale her eulegy
For calf, forsaken not.
The echo of the memory
I hear in concert melody
Which in my ears is whispering.

The snowfall melts to pouring rain
As ice floes drift away.
When will Nature come, repay
The stubborn fools not listening?
And when she does, what will she find
In ours and natures endgame strike?
That humans stand in victory?
Will that legacy be history,
Or a more clever mind resisting?
