    It's been a bit of a gnarly month, but we'd like to congratulate Kaiyumi for Atsuko's recent growth to student stage! Our next flatsale is in the works!

    This announcement is a little late in coming, but we'd like to congratulate Carneli Claret, Mriae, and DownSight, the winners of our February flatsale! Just around the corner is an all-boys event, so stay tuned for that one!

    Our valentine's event is up and running! We have two students and a noblewoman up for grabs. For more details, see the second page.

    Please welcome our newest addition to staff, Cariberi! She will be taking an artist position here; perhaps you'll see some of her lines soon!     The mule has received a makeover, including a name change! She now takes after Mori Akane, the figurehead of this shop. We've also begun to revamp the graphics, starting with the affiliates banners. These are just two of the many changes we have planned for the future, so stick around for them!

Please welcome Minamoto no Shigeru, our resident shogun! Perhaps you'll catch him at the training grounds soon, honing his archery skills. Koishi is going to be away for a few weeks since she is moving to college, but should be back and kicking after things are settled there.

It's a peaceful first anniversary of our shop! Thanks for all the support, everyone! May we see another year of Heian drama on gaia. :]

We decided it's time to get some fresh blood in the shop! Artists are for hire, but we may open an RP manager slot, as well, if there's enough interest. There's also an advertising contest for a lovely maid here at the hiring thread.

Well, it's been quite a stretch since February (and Koishi just sucks at updating), but after our rehoming event in April, we're now participating in the b/c-wide White Ribbon Event! That the community is rallying against art theft is an amazing cause, and of course, Shirabyoshi wanted to be a part of it. Head over to our booth in the event! The shirabyoshi we're giving away is rp-free. ;D

    General Rules

    ● 1. Over everything else, all Gaia ToS must be followed at all times.

    ● 5. Be literate. Illiteracy hurts our eyes. o__x
    ● 6. Don't stretch the page, or quote any of the posts on the first and second pages of this thread.
    ● 7. Do not alter or steal our art/graphics/layout. Anyone caught doing so will be blacklisted and reported immediately. If you catch someone stealing, do not notify him or her, and drop Kurama no Koishi a PM.
    ● 8. All times posted in this thread are Pacific Standard Time, or GMT-8. Please use your own time converter.
    ● 9. These pets are roleplay-heavy. Please consider the RP requirements in the Roleplay post before you try for one.
    ● 10. You may only win one pet from each event. For example, if you win an auction, you are no longer eligible to win in a flatsale from the same event.
    ● 11. You may only own up to three pets.
    ● 12. All rules are subject to change as the Shirabyoshi staff sees fit.


    Flatsale

    ● 1. Flatsales are prompt-based.
    ● 2. Should you win a flatsale, the fee of 20k must be paid to Mori Akane within 7 days. If we have not received the payment by then, the runner up will receive the pet.
    ● 3. All entries must be submitted to the mule, using the form we give you.
    ● 4. Please keep your entries under 1500 words! Quality over quantity. That, and our eyes will hurt otherwise.
    ● 5. You may try for as many pets as you want, but you may only win one.
    ● 6. Your entry must be 100% your work. We will take away your pet if we find that your writing style differs from your entry style.
    ● 7. Winners are decided by popular vote in the guild. How you act in the thread (if you hang out in the thread at all) will also affect your chances of winning. We like to like the people who win our pets. :]


    Auction
    ● 1. Should you win an auction, the amount you bid must be paid to Mori Akane within 7 days. If we have not received the payment by then, the runner up will receive the pet.
    ● 2. Do not retract bids. You will be greylisted.
    ● 3. Do not bid what you do not have. D:< We will get pissed and you will get greylisted.
    ● 4. We accept item bids, but only in monthly collectibles or first gen. evolving items. We may ask you to liquidate your bid if you win.
    ● 5. Please calculate your total bid using 90% of the lowest marketplace price.
    ● 6. Do not discourage others from bidding. You will be greylisted.
    ● 7. There is an anti-snipe rule in effect; bidding continues for one hour after the last bid.
    ● 8. Bidders will need to submit a writing sample, and it must be approved by staff before they are permitted to bid. It's not a big deal, only one staff member needs to approve you.

    The Shirabyoshi were women in the late Heian period who, in order to survive the cultural changes undergoing Japan, turned to performing. They were the daughters of the aristocrats, women who dressed as men and then entertained. They were dancers, mostly, but they were also educated poets, storytellers, musicians, and more. These women live together, learning such arts and practicing day and night, and then perform for the nobles and the samurai. They are beautiful. They are Shirabyoshi.

    At this time, Akane Mori is the most famous of all the Shirabyoshi, for spearheading the Shirabyoshi work. She resides in a special room in the west wing of the palace, and is rarely seen performing. She is hardly seen by the other Shirabyoshi either, and it is assumed that she spends most of her time sleeping or practicing, as she is almost always in her room. Some say that fame has turned her cruel and spoiled, but others claim she is still as sweet and pure as she ever was.

    The samurai too, do not go without change. They are slowly proving their worth, not only as warriors and guards, but as leaders. By this era, their power and influence has increased exponentially, though it is a long way to the ranks of the nobility. Samurai are expected to be cultured and literate, and many aspire to reach an equilibrium in their abilities with both the brush and sword. Between maintaining his code of honor, Bushido, and striving for excellence, much potential lies in the paths of the samurai.

    In the case of the aristocracy, they are fortunate enough to not have to change their lifestyles during the political upheaval of this time period. Life goes on as usual. They laze, they leer, they covet, and sometimes think about organizing some sort of coup for the throne. Lucky they are, to have the ability to remain carefree.

    This shop is a collection of these highly educated, cultured people. You will see them all live out their lives in early Japan. Things are changing, and although it is a way to survive, it is also an art.

    Rules for Owners
    ● 1. Co-owning is not allowed. It gets too complicated.
    ● 2. Cosplays are not allowed. However, if you have an original character who can fit, you are welcome to base a custom off of him or her. You may also base a custom off of a famous shirabyoshi, samurai, or noble in the Heian period. (Cosplays taken thus far are Shizuka, Emperor Reizei, and brothers Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Yoritomo.) Just no Final Fantasy, Naruto, etc. cosplays. @__@
    ● 3. You may own a maximum of 3 pets. Give others a chance, eh?
    ● 4. Be nice to fellow pet-owners, shop-goers, and staff. :3
    ● 5. Hang out in the the thread! >> Obtaining a pet and then disappearing forever is a surefire way to irritate us.

    ● 6. Follow the Daisy Code! Additional rules in the guild subforum are enforced by Capricorn Sunchai, the Roleplay Manager.
    ● 7. Roleplay goes in the designated subforums in the guild. If you would like to start a Private Roleplay, send a PM to the mule and we will make a thread for you.
    ● 8. You are required to keep a crew-issued journal for your pet.
    ● 9. You are not required to roleplay or write journal entries. However, if you do not, your pet will not grow. When you obtain a performer/warrior/noble from us, it is not guaranteed to grow, unless you RP him or her. The only exception to this is if you purchased a custom from us, in which case, growth will occur... whenever we feel like it (slowly). Journal entries that count for growths must be at least 500 words.
    ● 10. There are, of course, perks to RPing. It's only through roleplay that your pet will be eligible to grow to the fourth, special stage.

Listed below are all four possible stages of the three types of pets. The third stage is generally considered the final stage of your pet's growth. The fourth, special stage cannot be achieved by natural means—you'll have to prove that you are worthy and capable of maintaining such a highly esteemed pet through the way you handle your own pet. And once you have caught our attention, we'll grant you that extra stage—free of charge.




...............● Shirabyoshi Stages ●

    ● Maid - Around her early teen years, the maid does chores around the palace, mostly in the living quarters. She goes to a school for young women, and knows a bit about the theoretics of performing, but does not perform. She often sits to observe the Shirabyoshi so as to learn. 5 entries to stage up.

    ● Student - As a student, the girl's role is less of a maid and more of a Shirabyoshi. The time that she once spent doing chores has largely shifted toward being spent in her education, and practicing. She is generally in her mid to late teens now. 8 entries and 1 Growth quest to stage up.

    ● Shirabyoshi - In her early adult years now, and possibly for the rest of her life, the girl who was once a burden can finally spread her wings as a full-fledged Shirabyoshi. The hard work she put into practicing and schoolwork has finally paid off. Her life is centered around performing for the nobles and samurai. Love—and life—also blossoms at this stage, as her freedom is limited only by those who call for her performances.

    ● Elder Shirabyoshi - Having passed the prime of youth, the Elder Shirabyoshi still performs, but slightly less now since she is obligated to stay behind to keep an eye out for the next generation of Shirabyoshi. She is very highly skilled, however, and her legacy leaves a lasting example for all other Shirabyoshi to follow.

...............● Samurai Stages ●

    ● Pageboy - The male born into a samurai family has his destiny sealed. From the tender ages of 3 or 4 years, he is given wooden practice swords as early training. At the same time, he is also required to obtain an education. Both practice and education are overseen by a family head. This stage of learning and practice lasts into the early teen years. 5 entries to stage up.

    ● Apprentice - At this point the boy has matured into a teenager, and has developed quite well the skill of the battle arts. His education in both war and the royal courts is almost complete, and his proximity with the real samurai will soon be enough to make him one of them. 8 entries and 1 Growth quest to stage up.

    ● Samurai - The samurai now has the greatest honor bestowed upon him, and that is the prospect of fighting for Japan. During times of war, he is called to the battle lines to uphold this honor, but when there is peace, he is permitted to venture into the royal courts to watch the Shirabyoshi, and perhaps try his fortune. Though the nobles may turn their noses up at him, no one can dispute the fact that he has proven his mettle as a warrior.

    ● Shogun/Imperial Guard/??? - Most samurai are never destined to attain the rank of Shogun. The Shogun has weathered many wars, and has seen mankind at its best and worst. These experiences grant him a seat at the court of the emperor. Though he yet holds a low position, the influences of the samurai will yet grow for years to come, and thus the Shogun himself will hold increasing influence.

    ● Child - The children of the nobles, unaffected by the cultural changes of Heian Japan, are still catered to and spoiled. As children, though, what little respect they receive is given only for the fact that they are of noble blood. And as with all born into aristocracy, they are required to be educated. 5 entries to stage up.

    ● Adolescent - Older now, the children of the aristocrats have learned through observation how exactly to fool around like their elders. Possibly prissy and arrogant by this point, they strive to be like the adults, but are still hindered by their age and inexperience. It's just a little longer before they know what the elders know on the courts of the emperor. 8 entries and 1 Growth quest to stage up.

    ● Adult - As an adult, your noble has the power to become whatever he or she wishes, with near-unlimited freedom. Common are the sleazebags and shrews, and many of these aspire to gain the throne, usually by shady means. Naturally, there are some who are kind-hearted, but they may fade behind the overbearing typical. These nobles are some of the most uninhibited of all the Japanese Court, and those dealing with them, especially if they are young girls, are advised to be careful.

    ● ?? - The special stage for nobility is quite the wildcard. It may be as simple as one having been accepted into a higher-ranking clan, but therein also lies the possibility of becoming part of the imperial family itself. In these dealings the nobles themselves never know the outcome, and neither do you.

    With customs, you are granted the freedom to create your own pet and decide what he or she looks like, all stages of the way. However, the requirement that these pets should conform to Heian Japan culture and fashions lies intact, so your order form must first be approved by staff. Defer to the Story post if you are in need of references for clothes, though our artists know what you're talking about most of the time. C:


    There are two types of customs available:

    ● Normal Custom: 1500k ●

    The 3-stage custom. Your normal pet does not reach any of the special stages like Elder Shirabyoshi, Shogun, or a royal position, and neither do these customs.



    ● Extended Custom: 3000k ●

    The 4-stage custom. This special custom package allows your pet to reach one of the special stages. The price is steep to maintain rarity, but you get a cool pet and a significant hierarchy boost in the roleplays. ;D



    Customs are available whenever the artists wish to open their slots. Please PM all orders to the mule.

    ● Are these roleplay-required?
    Interactive roleplay is not required unless you want your pet to stage up. See the roleplay post for more details.

    If we have a roleplay contest or a rehoming event, but you've gotta prove your literacy. And just a hint, our hiring threads are a great source of free or discount Shira, if you can't afford them. <3

    ● How often do events occur?
    These will vary from every few weeks to every few months. They will be small events, with a few pets per each one. Bigger events take place during holidays, such as Christmas and may include more pets and some special ones.

    ● Can I pay for these in installments?
    For flatsales, we will consider installment plans on a case-to-case basis. We wouldn't like to turn down good roleplayers just because they lacked funds! For auctions, though, you must pay up front.

    ● Is there original lineart?
    Always. Each lineart is drawn individually as a different pet, so you will never have the same pet as someone else.

    ● Can we co-own?
    No, it simply gets too complicated.

    ● How many can I have?
    3, tops, though you really want to make sure that you will be able to keep up with roleplaying them all, since you will be completing RP quests, writing journal entries... 1 or 2 would be a more logical choice. ;]

    ● Do you take bribes?
    No, not unless you're offering an '03 item or something of that value. Steep prices, we know. We've already seen a lot of gold in our days.

    ● Do you do pet trades?
    Tempt us.



    ..........● On Shirabyoshi ●

    ● Was Akane Mori a real person? o.0
    No, she's a purely fictitious character. Shizuka, Tomoe, and Gio are the real ones.

    ● Where will the Shirabyoshi be living?
    The Shirabyoshi will be living in a rather large house-like building that is connected to the palace, as that is often where they will perform. Whether or not this is truly where they lived is unknown due to the lack of information on the Shirabyoshi available to us.

    ● Are Shirabyoshi prostitutes?
    Not at all. It is true that some gave birth to the children of nobles, but they were performers. Baby-makers on the side.

    ● Were there male Shirabyoshi?
    No, there weren't, but if you wish to obtain a male from this shop we'll have plenty of samurai and noblemen!

    ● So... They dress as guys?
    Yes, they do. They dressed in men's clothing, and perform in this attire.

    ● Since Shirabyoshi were the daughters of aristocrats, can my noblewoman become a Shirabyoshi?
    No. Noblewomen were respectively the wives of noblemen. Shirabyoshi were usually only ever lovers; they weren't actual noblewomen.

    ● And if it's a girl who is on track to become a noblewoman? Can she become a Shirabyoshi?
    For simplicity's sake, no. Don't worry though, most of the pets we sell here will be Shirabyoshi, so you will have plenty of chances. :3



    ..........● On Samurai and Nobles ●

    ● Okay, so if I want one of these samurai or nobles, how am I supposed to roleplay them if this is about Shirabyoshi?
    The Shirabyoshi performed for samurai and nobles, and there are other places to roleplay other than in the court where performances are held, such as the inner courts, gardens, samurai quarters, etc.

    ● Do samurai have to be men only?
    Yes. The women in samurai families, quite frankly, didn't do anything interesting.

    ● Are samurai and nobles the only other pets I can get?
    Probably, unless we think up some mega-rare pet to sell. ;D We have seen special performers thus far, but warrior monks, policemen, and imperial guards may be just around the corner.



    ..........● Clarifications ●

    ● How exactly do I get a special-stage pet?
    The easiest way is to catch an Extended Custom slot, or to bribe us. However, we will grant model customers the special stage for free if/when we see fit. Just roleplay often and well, keep your journal up to date, and hang out in the thread regularly. We'll notice. ;]

    ● If there's this one outfit that they all wear, how am I supposed to have an original pet?
    Believe it or not, in Heian Japan, comfort clothes did exist. Additionally, each and every lineart is unique.

    ● You discourage homosexual relationships between pets?! ;JAD;SLKF HOMOPHOBE
    First, take a chill pill; we are not homophobic at all, and you can ask any one of the crew about Koishi and Kaya. :'D It's just that, for whatever reason, on Gaia, homosexual male relationships in RP seem to be more prevalent than the hetero relationships. We don't want it to take over the shop, and even though it was accepted in Heian Japan, it was not common either. Besides, this shop is centered around women performers, and there's a severe shortage of men here already. We can't have a ton of lusty women hunting them all down, can we? ;D

    ● Does my pet have to be Japanese?
    He or she most likely is. However, there will be ways that they don't have to be, if there is a good story as to why one who is not Japanese is in Japan during the Heian era. These will be rare, and will have to be approved by staff.

    ● Why is my custom/growing taking so long?
    Please understand that some of us do have lives, and along with that, drama to deal with. We don't appreciate your nagging us because of that reason. Be patient; the end result will be worth it! <3
