17.04.08: Alright, the hiring ended(a bit ago, hahah) and I'd like to welcome Princess Yuii and MEimou to the staff, give them a feriendly welcome. c:
Now I know the place has been a bit slow, and I intend to try and fix this with events! The summer air was thick with heat, and moisture was non-existent. Any life that surrounded was just as cracked as the weathered road that traveled through. The lizards didn't bask, for they were already too hot in their burros, and the circling hawks stayed far away from the hill of the crow. Warm-blooded creatures were a rarity this far into the desert, well, unless they were traveling the road that meandered through. Sadly, however, the buckled road was a scenic route that saw little traffic, unless unfortunate travelers were tricked by the spirits. Ah, and those spirits had fun distorting the human's perspective; sending them off on the road that lead to the hill of the crow was one of their favorite pastimes. Now don't think ill of them, they had the greatest of intentions...it was the crow that was tricky.

"Come see my trinkets, they shall bring you good fortune..." The words were carried by dust, which was spread by the wind, which was the breath of the Creator; no one could resist them when the fluttered into their sub-consciousness. The crow used this to her advantage whenever she heard the hawk's cry, which told her that visitors would soon arrive. Whenever the piercing echo reached her ears, she tumbled gems in her right hand and fanned her crinkled face with her left. For the crow was not actually a crow at all when the visitors came, she was just an elderly woman wrapped in intricately designed cloth that had also seen many years. Behind her was a modestly sized stand filled with water and shade...as well as mischief, but those silly humans never be able to see the imps.

Fala's face contorted into a crooked smile, her eyes narrowing as they looked to the shadow traveling along the road out on the horizon. "Come see my trinkets, they shall bring you good fortune." She cackled softly to the spirits as the shadow turned into a blur and the blur turned into a car. "Come." It wasn't long before the tired and sweaty humans parked alongside the road and exited the car, coming to her stand and requesting some water. The crow happily greeted them and opened up her arms, waving to the cooler in the back. "My, my, weary travelers! How could you have gotten so far into the desert that you come across me? Ah, but the spirits also gave you some luck! Help yourself to some water and take a look at my trinkets, for I promise you that they'll bring you good fortune." As if there was magic in her voice, the humans quietly sipped at their water as they looked around, their eyes sparkling.

"If you folk have any questions, I am here to help, but I strongly urge you to take home one of my trinkets." Fala's pursed lips held a devious smile as her right hand kept twirling the gems, and her left kept fanning. Eventually her words got to the humans, especially the young ones, and soon she was swarmed with questions from beautifully curious faces. "Ah, my dear, this is the Veyr. They bring you a mix of blessings from the cat and the squirrel. The cat side will defend your soul from bad luck and the devil, while the squirrel will help you survive in the harshest conditions. Put these two together and you'll have a long and healthy life." The old crow stopped moving the gems and set down her fan, leaning in to face the youngest. "And you, my young friend, have what's called the Tanu."

"Tanu? What's that? This is just a pretty stone leaf...right?"

"Ah, yes, but there are two. Go and fetch the flower and bring them together, I shall talk about them together." The humans did as they were told, mystified by the old woman's words. Fala cleared her throat and held the leaf in her left palm, and the flower in her right. "These are the Tanu, they are magnificent creatures but you cannot tell when they are in this state of being. When they are needed, their spirits will be revealed." She heard the older man, apparently the father in the family, snort with laughter, "You think this is all nonsense, I know your kind. In to the facts and what is rather than what could be. I assure you that I speak the truth." The crow cleared her throat yet again and continued. "The Tanu are a mix of the smart and nimble ferret, and the crafty and intelligent raccoon. Put your trust in the Tanu when you are studying for a test, boy. And if you are looking to woo a young man, these trinkets will come in handy for you, girl." Fala winked, the boy cheered, and the girl blushed. The mother and father merely exchanged looks and shrugged.

"So will you be bringing home some of my trinkets?" Fala started twirling her stones again and the kids immediately jumped at their parents, begging. There was no way that any human could resist the crow; no one has ever left her stand empty handed. Well, left her stand and managed to get out of the desert anyway. It didn't take long for the man to take out his wallet. "Very wise choice, good sir. You will find your way out of this dry desert in no time. Thank you very much for stopping by, and take care of the trinkets." With that the old woman returned to staring off at the horizon as the family packed up to leave with a wave. Her lips curled into a wry smirk, "Another satisfied human. They're so easy to manipulate."

Unbeknownst to most humans who have obtained a Veyr or Tanu, their helpful guides are able to be in two places at once: the human world, and their own land called Aquinnah. This is a vast expansion of land and lakes on a separate plane in between earth and the spirit world; a place all their own where they choose who stays and who goes. They are free to go between the human world and Aquinnah whenever they wish to, and it comes in handy after a tired day of protecting their humans. Their own little home land is filled to the brim with sights and activities, to keep them happy and healthy, as well as places for Veyrs and Tanus to connect with each other, and possibly even fall in love. There's nothing more beautiful than a mating between two Veyrs or Tanus! The light that shines between them can be seen by everyone, and Fala's all the more happy when her friends give her new Talismans to give out.

In the Center of Aquinnah lies the incredibly large Lake Chumani in which all of the spirit guides use to go between worlds. This lake also serves as a one way window into the human world; all a guide needs to do is put its paw in the water and the ripples morph into a picture of what their human is doing. It comes in handy when a lazy Veyr or Tanu just wants to come back to their home and chill for a while instead of hovering over their human day in and day out.

Moving to the north of Aquinnah, it starts getting a little colder and the lake-side plains start to become tundra, and finally at the northernmost area lies the Zaltana mountain range. Not many guides venture into these mountains, but it has been documented that a few 'different' sorts of Veyr and Tanu decided to call the snow-filled peaks home. However, you must be wary while around these mountains; mysterious sightings, as well as disappearances, have been known to occur.

Just west of the lake lies a jungle called Rimba where the Tanu reign. since their Talismans blend in among the jungle's plentiful foliage, they found it more suitable to raise their offspring and decided to claim the territory as their own. It has many trees for the Tanu to climb, as well as shallow pools of water to play in. There's never a dull moment and there is always something new to find.

On the opposite end of the island land is the meadows of Wacanga that the Veyr call home. The grass is tall, thick, and filled with plenty of birds to chase and play with. There are also clearings in Wacanaga, and they are prime territory for Veyr couples who intend to start a family. For the rogue Veyrs, they find solace in the Tse cliffs at the edge of Wacanaga; plus the daredevil factor adds a lot to one's character.

Finally to the south of Aquinnah lies the Adahy forest. It's tall trees seem endless as they tower towards the skies. The land is a favorite of both the Veyr and the Tanu because they can all join together and compete in tree-climbing contests and many more things. They say that there is one tree for every guide that has ever come into being. Although no one has counted, they still find it an interesting legend to be told.
