Ladies and Gentlemen, after a long wait and a few years in the making... the StoneCrest that you all know and love is officially a KINDLE BOOK! In it you will find all your favourite characters, and even some you never liked at all. I want to thank you all for helping to inspire me to create what I consider to be a great story, with great promise. I encourage all of you to go and get a copy so that you can enjoy it as much as I have.

~Also, there weren't any of your main forest creatures in this book if I didn't specifically ask you for them. There are MANY of your characters that I love and I would have included, but there just wasn't enough room for everyone. I AM, however, writing a second and a third book as we speak. If you read this first one and you like it and you want me to consider your characters for the next ones, then just let me know ^_^ Part of the fun is knowing that everyone helped in their own ways.

ALSO! Promote me? Promote the book and the setting? Help me get this book into people's kindles and phones and such and into the mainstream so that we can all enjoy stonecrest together as much as we all enjoyed Redwall and Nimh and all those other books.
heart heart

You people were my inspiration.

nce upon a time, as all stories should begin, there was a forest. This coppice bore no name save for the whispering of the leaves as they rustled past, the croaking, cawing, and growls of the undergrowth as the morn slowly turned into eve. The beating heart of this untamed place was etched, not with a name, but a living sentient being that was above such things. It was in this forest where an ancient tree existed, cut off from the outside world due to the density of the foliage. This was no ordinary tree. In it seeped the magic of the old world, the natural one that existed before MAN began to move in.

When the two legged began to forage and pillage they were still not out of touch with their ancestry. They may tame what they may, but they gave back to the land what they took. As man progressed this way of thinking began to die, generation by generation this strong ideal flaked off until the bone marrow remained. The tree felt it, and for a long time it lost its magic. The forest began to die with it. The leaves turned into Autumn colors before dying with the winter, but they did not transition back when spring came. Even at the rise of summer, the woods continued into the ugly blackness. Things remained, it seemed, utterly dead.

MAN, poor ignorant man. With all their technology and vast resources, taken from the land itself, they did not realize that the reason this place was lost was because the Earth was mourning the loss one of its finest creatures. A creature that was plagued by their own greed and selfishness. So MAN did what they always do in this situation. They moved away, and the land was forgotten. Time went by and the human race continued its plummet into conquest and destruction.

However, the ancient oak, withered and dead still, gave birth to a small seedling which then grew into a tree. A tree that wove itself into the ancient one, giving it new life and energy. The ancient tree was rebirthed into the mightiest oak, the tallest in the forest, whose branches were so high they seemed to kiss the face of the unnamed God in the sky.

What happened next was something quite extraordinary. As the tree rejuvenated the forest, the animals started to come back, but since they were a blessing to the mind of the tree - never trying to go above their station as the dreaded MAN once did, the tree opened herself up, forming a hollow in her belly. In this hollow was the source of all magic. The animals harnessed it and began to colonize the forest, forming tribes and creating all that they needed under the careful blessing of the tree.

The rest, as they say, is history.

[T]:he Setting__

    Stonecrest is the name given to the symbol that the animals have found on a piece of stone in the ancient tree. Over time the name was adapted to also include the forest itself. Stonecrest, thus, for all intents and purposes, is both the name of the strange symbol and the place where the animals live. In characterly, an animal may be referring to either, though some do not even know of the stone and symbol's existence as far very few, if anyone, ventures far enough into the tree to discover its secrets. The great tree has ways of protecting itself after all.

    The forest itself looks like what you might expect. There is dense foliage in some areas where the trees are thick and tightly knit, so much so that the sun may be forever blocked out. In other places tree are sparse and lots of light can filter in. During fall months the trees lose their leaves, and during the winter months the forest is blanketed in snow. Many plants, fungi, and animals may make their home here, some even staying here during the coldest months of the year. A home can be made any number of ways, from burrowing underground, to forming a shanty out of fallen branches and leaves, others build treetop houses to get a better lay of the land.

    In the middle of Stoncrest there is a large tree, the biggest in the forest. This is known as the ancient tree or the great tree. (Older generations refer to it as the latter, earlier generations refer to it as the former). This tree is so vast that its roots have split apart and a river flows through it; starting from the east, curving just past the tree, and ending in a large lake. In the tree itself is a large hollow, a place where none dare to go, except for the bravest of souls. In the hollow there is a large stone, with a strange symbol, that sits in a pool of collected water that is thick and tinted with a strange glow. This is the source of all magic and can be harnessed to make various potions.

    To the west are the mountains, where animals fear to go because of the mountain lions and eagles that haunt the area. Though some resources may be found there, like the gromberry trees, there are too many sharp inclines for less dexterous animals to gain footing. An animal is not likely to go past the mountain base, and those that do are sometimes never heard from again. To the south, just behind the lake is the start of a seemingly never ending meadow. This field is full of beautiful flowers and some vegetation that is pleasing to eat. The problem is that it leaves a warrior vulnerable in the open air. Eagles, hawks, and other birds of prey have an eye out for a light weight snack, so while some animals may choose to try their odds, most stay clear of this area.

    To the north and east are the dreaded area known as the "hot lands". Animals do not go here, save for those that run 'The Shoppe', as they fear it, and many will not even speak of it. Parents will punish their offspring if they find them playing near this area, and most have invented a type of monster that will gobble up any wayward passenger. A lie of course, but it sometimes does the trick with young impressionable minds. These "hot lands" are nothing more then two stretches of highway that is known to the two leggeds as "Route 65", The animals fear the pavement because it is foreign and strange to them. Animals that did not head the warnings of mother can sometimes end up as roadkill. "Flying monsters", or cars, make up the majority of a parent's tall tale, though some did not even know of their existence. The shop keeps know how to keep to the sides of the hot lands because that is were valuable bottles, plastics, and other trash is thrown from these flying monsters.

    Please refer to the map below for a visual reference. To see broken up tribe territories: keep reading!

[H]ow the animals act!__

    You would do well to keep in mind that though these are anthropomorphic animals, they are also natural. That means though they can walk, talk, and can better manipulate objects with their paws/wings/claws, etc/etc they are still essentially animals. You cannot, for instance, have one sprout a cannon from his chest and blow people to smithereens. Another can't be so wonderfully amazing, and keen that he is brave enough to cross the hot lands, break into a human home and eat all of their food. It simply is illogical and compromises the concept.

    Also keep in mind that though these are not roleplay required, roleplay offers its own perks like breedings and item edits. It also helps build a stronger community environment within the shop. We encourage you to roleplay, and roleplay often. Please do not use one liners (though playful roleplay 'chatter' in the main thread is welcome) or use lots of chatspeak. Your posts should be well thought out and help move the plot along. We will have metaplots and roleplay related events from time to time.

    Thus, please keep the concept in mind, and read over all the necessary information so that you will not miss out on important details!

.__R UL ES___.

General Rules::

xxx⊙1. Do not steal anything in this shop. Anything. No code copying, eyeballing, passing the art off as your own, etc/etc. This will get you reported to a mod and is a bannable offense.
xxx⊙2. In relation, do not edit your pets image in any way! If you wish to add an item to your pet's image, then you should go about it by the traditional means. This means earning it through rp or a special bribe. You may only edit pets to make a group or couple image!
xxx⊙3. Read the front page and familiarize yourself with the concept before you ask a question! Chances are, it just might be there!
xxx⊙4. Please do not IM or PM individual staff members. If you have a question or concern please contact the mule or Keppit.

Roleplay Rules::

xxx⊙1. Don't godmode - control another character, not your own, or make your character so amazingly awesome that they are super powerful... Because the shop will drop a boulder on them and kill them... kill them dead.
xxx⊙2. No Mary/Garysues - don't have a character that is perfect, in every way, shape or form. It is both unrealistic and extremely annoying... Seriously.
xxx⊙3. The guild and the thread are for roleplaying. If there is a roleplay going on in the thread please be respectful and use brackets or parenthesis of some sort.

Flatsale Rules::

xxx⊙1. Flatsales may either be speed or roleplay based. During a speed sale a 'Go' is posted, and the first person to claim that particular pet gets it. Do not lay ownership until we confirm your win and do not edit your post in any way shape or form. Doing either will get you disqualified.
xxx⊙2. For a roleplay flatsale there will be a prompt posted. You will have a limited amount of time to answer, usually an hour or two, but this may vary. Those submitted on the same minute or before the stop post will be accepted. Any late entries will be ignored unless we decide to be lenient. This can happen for any number of reasons, from computer glitches to wanting a better variety of entries to choose from.
xxx⊙3. Again, please remember that you may not edit your posts!. If you have done so, and are caught you are DQ'd.
xxx⊙4. If you win, then the flatsale price is 5k per unedited pet, 8k for simple one-edit pets and upwards of 10k for pets with super edits. You have 24 hours to pay. You may proxy for speed sales, but never for any roleplay based event.
xxx⊙5. To ensure you have read the rules please have the tree giveth, the tree taketh away somewhere in your post.

Auction Rules::

xxx⊙1. Do not plan your bids in the thread, nor talk about how much you have/don't have. Do not cheerlead others to win. All of this is considered tactless, so do not do it.
xxx⊙2. Bids will only be allowed within the time frame. Once the time is up, the highest bidder wins. If they cannot pay, it goes to the next highest bidder and so forth. I also have a 10-minute snipe guard rule. This means that if you post within the last ten minutes of the auction an additional ten minutes is added. Once ten minutes of non bidding has past the highest bidder will obtain the pet.
xxx⊙3. Allowed items, if viable, will be up to the individual colorist running the auction. You may ask them what is acceptable, as it is not the same for everyone.

Raffle Rules::

xxx⊙1. Tickets will be sold for 100 g unless otherwise noted. You must pay for it as soon as you order and the the trade must be complete once the auction has been rolled.
xxx⊙2. If you order tickets and do not pay, or cancel your trade once you see you have not won, you will be instantly blacklisted. We will also contact a moderator since this is considered scamming.
xxx⊙3. Once the end time has come upon us, we will roll for the winner(s). If there is more then one winner then the first person drawn will have first pick of the available pets, the second will have second pick, and so on until someone's choice is by default. You will have 24 hours to make your selection before we allow the next person to choose. You will have 48 hours to claim the pet, at all, before we reroll.

.__F.A.Q___.

Can I have one for free?::

xxxThough we try to give out a significant amount of free pets, asking will not put you higher on any list. It is found to be rude and selfish. The free pets we have, you must win in some way.

Do you allow inter-species breeding?::

xxxNope. No excpetions. Small animals in the wild can not breed out of species, so why should you.

Do I have to roleplay?::

xxxNo. But nothing will happen to your character, including growths. If you want your animal to have specific perks such as a defined weapon or a breeding, you must roleplay up to the specific criteria. We will reward those who roleplay and are overall dedicated to the shop. But no, these pets are not roleplay required.

Benefits, you say?::

xxxItems, clothing, special weapons. These are by no means guaranteed, but we will show our appreciation to those that spend their time here.

[T]he Forest Inhabitants__
We are currently in the process of adding species information.

    There are many different creatures that make up the land of Stonecrest. They vary greatly, and all have their own strengths and weaknesses. Each creature starts off in a child stage (though you may pretend there was an egg or a newborn stage for breeding and roleplay purposes) and eventually grow into an adult stage. Child stages are unisex, though at times the gender is predetermined. Adults come in male and female lines.

[A]bout The Shoppe__

    As it turns out, there are 4 ways to go shopping in Stonecrest. You can either go it the normal way and attend one of the sellers' stores...

    Marriane The Tailor (Opossum)
    Elliot The Item Maker (Field Mouse)
    Liel The Weapons Master (Ferret)

    Each of these shops always has a general stash available, but they're always expensive and almost never have rare items at all. If it's rare and unusual items that you're wanting, and perhaps you're looking to barter some... the you want The Shoppe ::

    User Image

    The Shoppe is not a shop at all, but a code for buying things off the forest's resident bad boys - Simon the weasel, and Chale the badger. No one knows where they come from, they always seem to appear out of nowhere! You might be walking along a trail in Fangroot and one might drop down from the tree overhead, or you might find one popping out of a hole in Hallowmarl. They could be anywhere! Chances are they more about the land then any other animals and are sure to use it to their advantage.

    Their occupation is as traders, selling off useful wares, but where they get those items is a bit more shady. They mysteriously end up with a number of things to sell and if one might look close enough they might have seen the same item on someone a little more alive

    Simon is a charlatan, in a major way. He's fast talking and posh sounding. He can make a whistle sound like an angel's horn, while Chale is gruff, foreign and speaks very little English. He's not an entirely bad guy, but most find him intimidating because of his size.

[A]:bout Points__

    Stat Points?::
      Points! Heart, Mind and Soul are all comprised of stat points. (Not to be confused with skill points! Which you use to make weapons and learn skills).

    How many stat points do I have?::
      All baby creatures start off with a base of ten. Their 'preset' stats can be found in the growth guide.
      If you start off with an adult, you have an additional 4 points to add at the beginning in addition to the points you get from obtaining your pet.

    How can I get more Stat Points?::
      You can earn stat points from Random Encounters and use them when your pet grows into an adult. Applying further stat points to an adult [to be decided]

    How many do I get at the start?::
      Depending on how you obtain your pet (2pts: Raffles, Contests || 3pts: Custom, auction, bribes, pet trades || 4pts: Roleplay contests) you have points to add to any stat you choose when your pet is certed.

    How many do I get when my character grows?::
      If your baby pet grows into an adult depending on how active you were you will be awarded between 3 and 6 points to add to the new cert in addition to any you win from Random Encounters during your pet's youth.

    What do I do when my pet is grown up?::
      If you want to add points when your pet is an adult and you've obtained some skill point increases through random encounters or events, post them in the certing correction thread here!

    I think my cert has a mistake/my points are off::

[A]:bout Battle__
THIS ENTIRE POST IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AND NO LINKS ARE CURRENT

    Through duty, necessity or perhaps even desire you have found yourself in need of a battle lesson. Whatever your reason, you may experience many a sorrow or moment of bliss to be had at either end of a blade.

    Study dutifully and hope you find yourself on the right end.

[R]:ules__

    The art of war.
      This fighting system is heavily rp based. We've the methods, but common sense is in effect. If your opponent leaps off into a stream to be carried off and your character cannot catch up to him, you obviously can't do a melee attack unless you leap in after him. The mule can stand in as a judge if god modding or overplaying your abilities becomes a problem.

    One fight at a time. You cannot be in two places at once.
      If the player you've engaged in battle with has not responded in 14 days, their character has essentially 'fled into the woods' and forfeited.

    Do not attack without warning the character's player, and if they do not wish to fight then leave them be.
      Unless they have ventured outside their own clan area, in which case the character is now free game.

    Once you have engaged in a fight you cannot 'undo'.
      If the other player agrees something can happen and interrupt the fight or it could come to a peaceful resolution.

    Killing another character requires consent from their player and is considered a heinous act.

    You regain 1hp and 1mp per day naturally unless you are currently involved in a battle in which health is suspended until it concludes.

[S]:ystem__

    The fighting system is relatively simple. Attacks go in order of characters who have 'readied for battle' by posting their tag, weapons, hp and mp. [ Example ]. All your stats can be found on your tag and each attack only takes one post. So an entire battle can speed by in less than 20 minutes.

    Battle Start
      Battle Ready, and wait for your opponent to do the same.
      If your opponent is outside their clan area they have to battle ready in response, even if they choose not to fight back. If your opponent refuses to battle ready in such an area then feel free to contact the mule. If they are in their own clan space they have the option of refusing to battle.

      Additional opponents can jump in with consent of the players (unless it's out of clan area, in which case it's once again a free-for-all) and take their turn immediately after their own battle ready.

    Step 1
      Choose your attack. Once your opponent has acknowledged you, you may attack in order of 'battle ready'. Simply type out any roleplay you which to associate with the attack and post an image of the weapons or items you plan to use.
      Base magic and attacks require no mp to preform. Also, if you took any damage the previous round this would also be a good time to record it. If you're fighting multiple opponents, make sure you note who you're going after.

      If you chose to use an item, such as a healing potion, you cannot attack in the same round.

    Step 2
      After calculating your attack (your base attack or magic attack (bottom of your tag) + any bonuses in the items you use) Roll your attack by selecting random number in your post action .
      Zero is a miss, the max you roll for is a 'critical hit' or 'crit'. These terms can come in handy for certain skills.

    Step 3
      Reaction, your opponent records the damage and roleplays their reaction to the hit, and in the same post makes their own move.
      If you want to back out of a battle, forfeit or run away, it can either be role played out as an escape or requested mercy. It's all up to you. The worst outcome 99% of the time will be your pet 'passes out' and perhaps obtains some battle wounds or has an item taken.

[B]:attle Examples__

    When in Rome, do as the Romans. If you learn best through example, here's some battle examples that have taken place.

      More to come.
User Image

All animals will have 2 - 6 babies
The breeding fee (to be split between the two owners) is
5k per offspring!

[I]nformation__

    Breedings in Stonecrest are a very important deal. It is very rare that a child is born into a different tribe then what their parents are, though we may allow it if it serves some specific plot purpose. Children are generally taken well care of, because they need to learn the ways of the world, how to battle, and how to survive in the wild. Children may live without some type of parental figures, but generally others in the tribe will take over this roll.

    When breedings are open it will be announced in thread and the section for it will open up in the guild to allow new applications. There are three rules to follow when you desire a breeding:

      01. You may not breed your own pets together!
      02. Both parents must be adults!
      03. Couples must be Female x Male!

    Breedings in stonecrest will happen by two different ways:

      Roleplay: No Mortality. You must have three complete roleplays, with at least 15 posts made.

      Non Roleplay: 10% Mortality. No roleplay is needed to try for this slot. Usually, only one slot is offered during each round.

    When all is said and done your new babies will be posted in the main thread. You will then have three options on what to do with them:

      01: Keep one for yourself!
      02: Give one to a friend!
      03: Hold a FREE contest for one! (must be shop approved)
User Image

In the hollow of the tree there lies a tome for all to see.
creatures as vast as the morning dew, from the start of time until the new.

The parent list set up is fairly basic, and is as followed:

• Each species of critter has it's own post.
• Within the species post, the pets are further categorized by the specific tribe they belong to.
• Your pets: Owner, name, gender, and age are all listed!

See? Pretty simple. To check out the parent list (found in the guild), go here!

There is also another parent list to show all the characters that are one of a kind (unique lined and animals not usually offered)
User Image

[O]btainment for Points__

    Aside from the base points for each species, you also have points to allot depending on the type of sale you garnered your pet from:

    2pts: Raffles, misc contests (flaffles, quizes, etc)
    3pts: Custom, auction, bribes, pet trades
    4pts: Roleplay contests

    ** you may add an additional point for the low price of (NONE.... atm.) **

[B]ribes__

    When bribes are open, it will be announced quietly in thread. If you are interested, you need to PM the person taking them with an offer (remember that bribes should be higher then the custom prices as we are essentially doing something we might not normally or at a time when we might be more busier then normal). If you have not been responded back to within a week then we regret to inform you that your bribe has been rejected. You are more then welcome to try again, or wait for another sale.

[P]et Trades__

    I don't take a lot of pet trades, and when I do I really don't take pets that are roleplay required, sorry! If you see me at a shop I stalk consistently, or if I already have a pet at said shop I might consider getting another one :3 Again, if interested send a pm to the mule, however if it has not been responded to in a week then I politely decline your offer.

[R]L Commissions__

    We do not accept RL money in exchange for a pet! All pets here, and all things affiliated with the shop (like item upgrades) are for gold, or through some type of contest only! No exceptions!

[C]ustoms__

    Custom prices are as followed:
