7/5/06:Hola, guys. This is Stae here, with an announcement. Due to the overwhelming pressures of life, school, etc at the moment, the Shattered will be temporarily closed to new children.

No, this does not mean I am OMG!running out on the shop. I would never do that. This just means that until I can get caught up on everything (getting people to their next stages, etc) that there won't be any new opportunities for Shattered kids.

There will be opportunities in the future, but my art takes a lot longer to do than it did when Nio and I first opened this shop, and I would like to focus on the current kids. So this is just more of a courtesy notice for our questers and stalkers. =3

Story

There is a story, as there always is; a story born of myth born of legend born of legacy, and as every story ultimately does, it begins with creation.

It was neither the creation of man that begot this story, nor that of the world upon which he dwelt. There were many worlds in that day and age, all looked over and coveted by the same God. Rather, this creation was that of a simple looking glass, a gateway from Heaven to the world of Aliith, through which God played his hidden hand and impacted the lives of his never the wiser children. It was their sole link to God, the barrier through which the souls of the dead passed into their eternal paradise, through which the souls of newborn children were sent, and through which God watched as humanity flourished and grew, and ultimately, through which he watched their slow and inevitable decline.

It had been a millennium in the making, the chaos and discord that dragged existence down in a torrential spiral towards oblivion. In a world where God played a gentle hand - proffering his will upon the gentle whisper of midnight winds, his intentions displayed in the heady rush of daydreams and nightmares - faith, it seemed, was an ever-important asset. The belief that there was, in fact, a guiding hand, a sheltering palm, to lead a person through their life was essential.

Yet in a world of growing technology, where humans lived in dependence of machines, the scientifically lacking aspects of faith fell to dust as quickly as the ashes of the forests burnt to make room for factories and warehouses and interstates. Early morning reverence was forsaken for video games and early morning cartoons, and the world slowly rejected the existence of their creator.

Perhaps it was because of this that it happened, perhaps because the ill-tempered God saw his creations as unworthy. Perhaps they truly were.

Nevertheless, the day came swift and harsh, a day of judgment that would push man down the path of destruction and decay he had created for himself.

In a fit of rage, shut out of the hearts of the very people he had given the breath of life, the angry God shattered the looking glass that tied his children to Heaven, casting the world into the last age of man.

Souls that should have passed through that portal remained on Aliith, vicious and vindictive, haunting the living in eternal punishment for the pain they suffered in their incompletion. Slowly, the world declined. Resources ran thin and machinery collected in useless, rusting heaps. Corpses lined the streets, as none would enter the graveyards to bury them for fear of the spirits that dwelt there. Plagues rose and spread, and without the aid of technology, there was no combating them.

Not a night passed in those last years where the living did not huddle together, where children did not scrape for food and parents did not struggle to retain shelter from disease and cold. Children were stillborn, and more than one grieving parent took their own life in those dreadful days. Years passed in growing darkness, until at last, the flame of life was snuffed out in God's absence, and the last remnant of Earth was lost to filth and decay.

Yet the story did not end there.


And live on it would, in the form of children, created from the very fiber of the world from which their spirits were born. Emotions, animals, every bit of life that our world has to offer, reflected into the mirror to give the soul trapped within a chance at life. The final remnants of a shattered world, brought into our own to try and save us from the very same fate their world fell to.

NOTE: The following RP Requirements are recommended for a speedier growth. Children will not be taken away for failure to adhere to these roleplay standards, but those who are more active in the thread and in consistant roleplay are considered for growth earlier. You can only own one. (Except in the case of breeding, see below for further info)

Stages


All Shattered begin as a shard, and must be used to reflect something in order to begin formation into life. It's reflection can hold anything - an emotion, an item, an action; the possibilities are limitless and will directly affect what form the soul within takes when it comes from the shard.

For your shard to evolve into a child, you must roleplay the reflection. This requires at least one full and descriptive journal entry in the journal set up for you upon acquiring a shard, of you as the guardian seeing the reflection of the chosen subject in the shard. The more thought you put into it, the more detailed your child will be.

Child:
Your child is new to this world and does not remember it's past. It will learn from you the basics needed to survive in this world, but retain personality traits affected by what it's reflection absorbed. How your child grows is directly dependant on how you roleplay him/her.

At least (2)two private journal entries or (1)one full interaction with another shattered (aka a PD)per month is minimum roleplay for this stage. If this requirement is not made, the child will not grow, and those who have achieved their RP requirements will grow before your child. If you feel you have achieved these requirements and you're ready for your child to grow, let us know so we can put you on our growth list.


Pre-Teen:
Growing faster each day, your Shattered is now beginning to remember some lost memories of his/her destroyed world. Nightmares may plague him/her of the world they lost, fragments of memories that were instilled in them when the glass was destroyed. Depending on whether the soul within your shard was one that died during the destruction, or those that never lived, your child may suffer from flashbacks of it's previous life. The child may take on personality traits akin to it's reflection, but will be more affected by those around him/her, so interaction is crucial at this stage.

At least (2)two journal entries or (1)one full interaction with another shattered per month (aka a PD) is minimum roleplay for this stage. If this requirement is not made, the child will not grow, and those who have achieved their RP requirements will grow before your child. If you feel you have achieved these requirements and you're ready for your child to grow, let us know so we can put you on our growth list.

Teen:
Ah, the teenage years. Even for a Shattered, these present themselves to be some of the most trying, and interesting times of their lives. Emphasis on the impact of the world and people around them are now evident, and they will begin to choose whether or not they wish to try and save this world from the same fate their own world suffered, or leave it to it's own devices.

At least (1)one journal entry and (1)one full interaction with another shattered per month is minimum roleplay for this stage. If this requirement is not made, the child will not grow, and those who have achieved their RP requirements will grow before your child. Your shattered will have to go through a 'choice' roleplay with the staff when this time comes. If you feel you have achieved these requirements and you're ready for your child to grow, let us know so we can put you on our growth list.

Adult:
Your little glistening shard of glass has fully evolved into an adult, and what an adult at that. The world and people around him/her have aided in growth and brought about a completely unique being with a very important decision to make. What will your Shattered choose? Where will it's life lead? The possibilities are as limitless as those of the reflections.

(1)One interaction with another shattered per month is required as minimum roleplay for this stage. Serious roleplayers who have made it to this stage -may- be in for a surprise if they don't give up there. I say no more.

Breeding

Plain and simple, Shattered can breed like any other living mammal. Oh baby. <3 Breeding is possible from the teen stage on, and is roleplay intensive - meaning a couple must have roleplayed their relationship enough to be acceptable. If a couple decide to breed the natural way, you must wait for a breeding slot to be open: breeding costs 50k split between the couple and they will receive a baby at birth. (Twins cost 100k but we have the right to deny a request for twins at any time.)

If the couple choose to keep the child, they share the roleplay responsibility for it. You may also choose to give the child to someone to roleplay, but ICly the child is taken care of by the couple which bore it, and will therefore have no IC 'guardian'. If you wish to sell the child it must be done through the shop, and will be done so by RP flatsale for 20k which will return to the parents.

There is, however, another form of breeding that is free for the parents. The parents receive nothing from this type of breeding except the pleasure of seeing a Shattered in their physical likeness. This breeding involves no actual mating, but rather simply reflecting both the mother and father at the same time into a shard. The shard is then sold by the shop to an owner of the parents choosing, for 30k which goes to the shop. If the parents would prefer an auction (as in, they have no choice for who it goes to) that is acceptable as well, with proceeds returning to the shop. The child will be raised by the guardian who is given the shard, but will retain the likeness of it's mother and father.

Both types of breeding can only be done once each, and only when a breeding slot is open.

Hi kids! I'm here to tell you some things you should know about your Shattered, to smooth over problems concerning RP! Hoolay!

-If your Shattered is a child, there is little to no chance he remembers anything about his past.
-Your Shattereds past did not happen in the world we're RPing in. So. Y'know. You can't be their great grandson.
-None of your Shattereds physical manifestations and characteristics stem from their past. None. Your Shattereds physical characteristics are solely the work of the reflection cast upon it before it was born, and subsequent factors involved in that reflection. So no, your Shattered doesn't have a scar on it's left buttocks from where little Timmy stabbed him in his past life.
-Your Shattered may have a soul that lived in the past, or a soul that never had a chance to live at all (an unborn soul). If your Shattered did not have a past and was an unborn, you must inform me.
-(New) I'm adding this part since it's come up, and I want to clarify; a shard reflects anything, but it is only when a guardian's eyes cast itself on the reflection, and sees a vision, will the child embed with that vision. This bonds child with guardian, which allows the child's soul to grow out of the shard. Example of the right situation to reflect a shard (not an example of acceptable roleplay):
A librarian finds a shard on the floor and picks it up, then looks down at it and sees the reflection of the books in the shelf above her. The child who emerges from this shard would have physical characteristics inspired by books, and will have nothing to do with the past life of the soul within.

Example of the wrong situation to reflect a shard (not an example of acceptable roleplay):
A librarian finds a shard on the floor and picks it up, then looks down at it and sees a magical unicorn in the reflection. The unicorn is clearly not actually above her, but reflected in the shard. (This is not how shards work.) The child who emerges has characteristics of a gypsy, because it was a gypsy in it's past life. (This is not how the shattered work.)

Q. How much? ;.;
A. 20k for a flatsale. Check the breeding post for breeding prices.

Q. Can I choose what my Shattered looks like?
A. With a flatsale Shattered, you may choose the gender and concept, and design it roughly, but some of the detail is up to Orestae. If you want a fully customized Shattered, you'll have to try for one of the custom auctions.

Q. Can I bribe you to avoid the whole flatsale/auction mess?
A. That depends. Usually, probably not, but if you have an offer/pet that we just can't refuse, you never know. Please see our autobuy section for our current bribe.

Q. Are these RP intensive?
A. Definitely. Every single stage of every Shattered is individually drawn so a lot of work goes into these little guys, and we like to see them well taken care of. On occasion, there may be one or two that are traded under special circumstances that are not RP intensive, but those will be very, very rare.

Q. What do I have to do, as a Guardian?
A. Take care of your Shattered, of course! From birth to adulthood, the Shattered will need someone to watch over them and guide them.

Q. Can I have twins? biggrin
A. Normally, no. Though there may be an exception for this at some point in time. Also: See Breeding.

Q. Will you critique my entry?
A. Sorry, but it wouldn't be fair for either of us to critique entries for our own contests/flatsales. Since we're judging, if we told you what we wanted to see, then there wouldn't be much of a competition.

Q. Do you do pet trades?
A. Not normally, no. There are exceptions such as Fa'e (aka impossible). But there's always a chance, if we love your shop a lot. PM The Shattered if you want to offer a pet trade. It can't hurt.

Q. How often do I have to post in my journal?
A. From toddler on, you are required to do at least one interactive RP with another Shattered/Guardian at least once a month, OR do two journal entries per month. Our staff will be reading all of the journals as the Shattered grow up. Only one entry will be required for the Shard stage before it grows up.

Q. Are they breedable?
A. Of course! Once your pet grows to the teen stage, they can breed. (Though it would be nice if they waited until adult, eh?) And if you want them to breed with another sort of breedable, that's fine by us, granted you have permission of the owner of the shop from which that breedable came. Breeding occurs by buying a breeding slot.
