Your curious hand hovers over what seems to be empty air. At last, you reach forward and your hand seems to disappear. Suddenly, you feel yourself being sucked inward. The sky tears apart once more, and you are beyond the rift.

Please congratulate InkHound on becoming our newest Artist! (Additionally, please congratulate | Duckeh | too, for that matter.) I don't think I ever officially announced our hiring of her. . . . yay team art!

Shop Adoptables! We've decided to offer newbies, lurkers, and people interested in the shop an easier, quicker, and faster way to get involved or start playing. While we have NPCs that can be created anytime, sometimes folks just want an arted character to develop. The adoptables thread is the place for you! Colorists can periodically put up freebies to give away to new customers -- and if they aren't snatched in due time -- then anyone in the shop can give them a good home!

This is a first-come, first-serve sort of thing, so if you see something you like, by all means, take them home!

We'll still give out freebies, semi-customs, actual customs, and other give-aways, but this is something we'd like to keep open for any and all interested party members. Think of it as an eternal flatsale. :3

Aftermath: Cleaning the City Well, we've got two other characters that are in need of good homes! For anybody interested in trying out for a new RFI character, we've got two up for grabs!



A Beta Warrior and an Alpha Scholar! One of them is a prompt-based writing contest, of sorts, while the other is a raffle . . . but to earn tickets you've got to play a little in the shop. ; D If anybody is interested, this event run until July 31! With the city (hopefully) rebuilt . . . we can get that Academy opened for good, and students can once again resume classes.

1. You may roleplay in the main thread or in the guild. Please note that only approved characters may be played.
2. Bullying behavior will simply not be tolerated. Kindly take any elitism or other destructive behaviors to the door.
3. We welcome all kinds of folks, but encourage people to be tolerant of one another's different beliefs and perspectives.
4. At Role for Initiative, we would prefer our players to bring their own ideas to the table. Please try for original characters and original worlds, rather than porting over copyrighted material.
5. We're a brand new shop, so we may need to change rules down the line.
6. We also reserve the right to ask players to tone things down if we feel that it may upset the harmony in the shop, or break the ToS, or disrupt the balance in the shop.
7. Please do not offer unsolicited critique of character profiles. Many of our players are veterans to the B/C environment, but not all.
8. If you don't get along with someone, please simply try to be civil. If need be, you may contact one of the owners to resolve a situation, but we would prefer our shop to be one where communication is open and friendly.
9. Only free-to-play character types may be roleplayed without official Role for Initiative art. If you have won a character and are waiting for finished art, you may roleplay the character once you get them approved, whether or not the art is finished yet.
10. Finally, and perhaps most important of all, Role for Initiative is not a roleplay required shop. We encourage roleplay, and certainly look forward to roleplaying ourselves, but character advancement is not strictly predicated on roleplay.

[Role for Initiative]

The central feature of the city and world of Arcanum is the Academy, a sprawling, shifting edifice to the arts of magic. All magic. Legendary heroes from innumerable worlds found their roots at the Arcanum Academy, gaining in notoriety and prowess throughout their scholastic careers. Although it is true that anyone may benefit from magic, it is only the rare few who may become true adepts in the heroic arts. Those few reside within these hallowed walls, one day to become the next generation of world shakers... whether good, bad, or otherwise.

There is a shadowy figure in Arcanum's past, present, and future known as the Crown alone. He or she is the ruler of this most magical realm, and very little is known about them. It is unclear whether sovereignty of the world has actually changed hands at any point, or whether the Crown has simply ruled continuously since the very first age. No one may approach the Crown, and no one has ever seen their face.

When new students arrive at the Academy, they do so through portals of power. These portals appear as doors while in the Academy, which, when opened by a student, lead to places both known and unknown. Outside of the Academy, portals may take any form that allows one to cross beneath, though often an archway is involved. Students are advised to carefully maintain their concentration throughout their journey, as any deviation may send them to somewhere entirely else than their intended destination.

Arcanum is a magical setting, and plays host to innumerable different species. Some are native, while others were drawn to Arcanum through various portals and magical means. While there are ways to get custom-lined characters, our current unlocked templates are only open to the following:

Character Paths & Classes
The men and women that are accepted into Arcanum Academy are trained to become the best of the best. They are sorted into one of five Paths: Fighter, Healer, Spellcaster, Stealthy, and Ranger. As they advance and gain experience, the students are able to hone their skills into various specialties. Everyone might begin in the same class as an Alpha Scholar, but by the time they reach graduation, their powers, skills, and abilities are as unique as their personality.

Characters will level up through a variety of ways. There's a grid for earning XP which Scholars and Civilians may follow. XP can also be given out during events to ease the burden of all that writing! For individuals who might not have the time to focus on developing their characters, we will also open up Growth Slots, Bribe Slots, and RLC. These are all ways in which you can grow our character, though cooldowns between growth might apply.
