And now for something completely different...

The public address system on this ship was state of the art, not tinny or crackly like you might find in a Gaian high school. Its quality made what was to come all the more disturbing. There was the faintest of clicks, then Reghen's pleasant voice echoed throughout the ship, so clear that it seemed as though he was speaking from right over the shoulder of each individual present.
"Please, do not be alarmed. My employer requires that each of you answer a few simple questions about a most urgent matter. Remain where you are until you are called. At the proper time, you will be escorted to a comfortable, soundproof room. There will be pie."
"David Stetson, please proceed to the top of the stairs." There was a pause. "Alone."
Limerick glanced at his board o' photos, most of his attention still on the gun pointed at him. David, David, David, there! He squinted at the picture, then looked around the room to make sure the matching boy was doing as he was told.

After the turbulent takeoff, David was sprawled on the floor, but no less convinced that spaceships were fantastic. He let out a shaky, thrilled laugh. "Brilliant, we get a ride!" he exclaimed, seemingly unperturbed that a) the ride hadn't been advertised, and b) there was no way to get off.
Pushing himself up onto his feet again and dusting himself off, he went right back to exploring. He grabbed Rina's hand and dragged her along down the hallway, but, mid-run, he heard a voice that was a little too clear for the pace they were running at begin to address him. "Whoa, Rinasaurus, hear that?" he asked, skidding to a halt. Either she had gotten really good at doing impressions, or the voice was coming from thin air, because the hallway was almost empty apart from them. "That's an interestin' thing, huh?" Too bad the voice wasn't saying anything interesting in and of itself. Just instructions, and he got enough of those at home and at school. His attention span for the voice would have ended right there, but then it said both 'David Stetson' and 'pie'.
David Stetson and pie were both high on David's list of interests, so he perked up, but when he heard the 'alone' part, he frowned. However, the hero always had to do some things alone on adventures, so he tailored it into the adventure he was having easily enough. Looking back at his friend, he said, "Sorry, Rina, looks like I gotta fly solo for a little. If I'm not back in ten minutes, assume I'm dead."
That was what people said during adventures, right? He was pretty sure they did, so he climbed the stairs and left Rina to fend for herself for a moment. She'd understand if pie was involved, he was sure.

There was indeed pie, a large slice of blueberry goodness that Eaayta offered David as he passed through the ominous-looking door and into another long gray hall. "We have apple as well. And something called boysenberry," she drawled, sounding positively unthrilled about the entire endeavor. She did not seem to possess any sort of silverware for him to use, but there were plenty of plastic forks and spoons in the room she led him into. There was also a large man.
"Kklavo tarassk," he hissed.
"Please, have a seat." Another man, this one much paler and slightly smaller, pulled out a chair and waved a hand at it. David might have seen him downstairs, but more recently Reghen had starred as the disembodied loudspeaker voice.
Behind them stretched a bank of blinking buttons and screens, the largest of them displaying what looked to be a video of the void they were floating through.

David followed the woman that came to greet him, eating his pie with his hands as he went. The other flavours sounded good, but the best kind of pie in David's opinion was pie that he didn't have to wait for to eat. As he finished, he pulled out a paisley handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his hands before looking around the room. "Cor, you got quite a setup!" he said, looking impressed. This had to be some kind of control room, on account of all the screens and buttons, and as ominous things occurred around him, David took in the scenery.
He looked up at Reghen since he recognized his voice, but this time it definitely had a body attached. "Hey, how'd you do that thing before?" he asked cheerfully as he sat down.
However, he fidgeted in his seat. The more he saw of these people, the more he began to wonder what they intended to do with him, and, more importantly, whether he should have eaten that pie. David was naturally suspicious of authority figures, and these people seemed pretty authoritative to him. If Rina found out that he was kidnapped by the Man over a piece of pie, she would never respect him again.
Well, he wasn't going to find out if he didn't ask, so he rested his head on one hand and looked at the strange trio of adults sideways. "So," he asked casually, "What's all this, then?"

Drolic smiled, but as far as reassuring smiles went, it was a bit of a failure. "Deeros rosokk ti dal Citopixe mrren ghsu," he said.
Reghen looked as though he wanted to answer the boy's first question, but a sidelong glare from the green alien squished all of his outwardly friendly leanings. "Mr. Ghorat is looking for a woman named Citopixe."
"Kiena."
"Or a girl. She could just be a girl. Blonde hair, tan, can turn into other things. Have you seen a girl like that?"
Behind Drolic's looming form, the screen broadcasting what was outside the ship quickly cycled through several images of more empty gray halls, coming to a stop on a video of a little girl matching the description Reghen had just given. Next to the screen, a red light began to blink.

David had not been specifically taught not to give away the locations of little girls to sinister, pie offering strangers, but generally, he considered it to be a poor idea. Yes, the pie had been good, but Mr. Ghorat was a tall glass of intimidating, and Evan had made it very clear to him that strangers who offered children candy were terrible. Even if this man did own a spaceship, David was beginning to suspect that he was using it for evil, a fact that was even more annoying because David could think of a million cooler uses for a spaceship than looking for little blonde girls.
So instead of pointing at the monitor behind the adults' backs, he shrugged and asked the obvious question. "How'm I supposed to know if she turns into other stuff? I ain't Sherlock Holmes or nothin'. Why're you lookin' for her, anyway?" He remembered what Rina had called him earlier, and, in a fit of inspiration, asked, "Is she your main babe?"
In a second fit of inspiration, he added, "But if you gotta know, I think I remember seein' a blonde outside somewhere. Don't remember where, though, maybe you should suss out the party." True enough. Evan was blonde, and there had been some blonde people down with the rest of 'em. David was more concerned with whether or not they'd go and look- he had a lot of heroics to do now that he knew what was up, and he wanted to explore the room some more.

At this Reghen nearly laughed, or at least got as close to a laugh as he was generally able. If Drolic had a 'main babe,' Reghen certainly hadn't seen her. The only babe present was Eaayta, whose face was slowly twisting into an expression Reghen couldn't decipher. One thing was for sure, it wasn't amusement.
He turned around, following the woman's gaze to the video screen. Oh, crap.
He didn't bother translating David's last words. Drolic had gotten the gist of everything that had been said so far, and now wasn't the time to dawdle. Eaayta gestured to the screen and the green alien turned, a fierce rage lighting his eyes. Thankfully his back was now facing David. No need to threaten the children.
"Stay," he growled at the boy, grabbing Eaayta by the arm and leading her and Reghen from the room. There was the click of a lock, but the child was now alone with most of the ship's controls, so the metal door was unlikely to remain locked for long.

David watched them leave somewhat bemusedly. The click of the lock didn't bother him much, seeing as being alone in the room was all he had wanted them to do anyway. It looked like the girl on the screen was who they had been looking for after all, so it was a shame they saw her, but David figured that if Mr. Ghorat could look for her, then he and Rina could too, dubious as their chances of success might be. He didn't know what the trio of adults were up to specifically, but he had a soft spot for girls and a penchant for terrible ideas.
"Right," he said, hopping to the ground. Before he did any of the damsel-saving stuff, he'd have to get out of the room, so he regarded the panel of buttons. He wasn't sure what any of them did, but then he remembered that he was wearing the captain goggles, so it didn't matter anyway. Captains didn't mess up, and they certainly didn't admit that they didn't know something about their vessels. With this in mind, he haphazardly ran his hands over all the buttons and then whacked the panel once just to show it who was the boss of whom. In a few moments, the door unlocked and David nonchalantly strolled down the corridor, getting all the way to the stairs before breaking into a run and calling, "Rina! Rinaaaa!"
They had a lot of catching up to do.
