[DoomDream Dragons]

Not so long ago, but very far away, among the high craggy peaks of the Jerall Mountains, a young woman by the name of Hannah set down her richly toned brown leather briefcase on the obsidian colored stone of the mountain. Hannah had come to these remote mountains to observe some activity within the skies of these oddly warm peaks. Livestock had been vanishing from the nearby village, and beautifully sinister, as the villagers called them, streams of fire lighting the night, and large horrible shadows plagueing the night sky.

She had heard all the villagers' rumors of huge flying beasts soaring over the village and the mountains; their stories were farfetched and hard to believe. After all, the largest animal that could fly around here was likely a golden eagle... Or some such bird of prey.

She brushed a strand of pale hair that the wind had blown into her eyes back into place. Quickly taking a handkerchief out of her pocket, she wiped the sweat from her brow. It was unseasonally hot here. She gazed around the black stone ground, taking note of the minimal shrubbery this place had to offer. As she took stock of the landscape, she suddenly got the creeping feeling of being watched. Looking around she didn't see anything, but the feeling continued to persist, and it didn't help when a even warmer breeze kept tickling the back of her neck.

Hannah shook her head, and laughed at herself. There was nothing here. Feeling foolish to believe in such superstitious tales of dark shadows and fires in the night, she turned around to return to the village and suddenly came face to face with a huge scaled nose. She staggered backwards from surprise, ending in an ungainly sitting position on the warm rock of the mountains. The creature stared at her with warm amber eyes that spoke of laughter. The only perception she got from the eyes was, 'Is this thing going to eat me?' The huge eyes continued to study her for a few long moments, seconds that to Hannah felt like years, before the animal's gracefully curved neck lowered and the eyes lowered to her level. Hannah was stunned, though she felt no fear, although she wasn't entirely sure of her own feelings, having been faced with this shocking discovery.

When the huge mouth opened she thought it signaled her end, but then it spoke. "Who are you and what are you doing in my domain?" His voice sounded of demand, but there was curiousity intertwined in the booming tone. Hannah looked to the creature and answered the question politely, though stuttering as she spoke.

"I-I am a scientist, I was sent here to study the stra-strange activity in these mountains. And I thi-think I just found it..." Hannah said, whipping out her camera and flashing a picture of the impressive beast, though the action cried out against all her better judgment.

"What was that flash of light!?" The creature said, his already deep voice getting lower as a ferocious growl began rumbling deep inside his broad chest.
"I will tell you what the flash was if you would please tell me what you are." Hannah stated calmly. She stood slowly and dusted her sweating palms, keeping a grip on her camera.

The creature was slightly taken aback at the little human's courage. "Well, I would think it to be quite obvious what I am." When Hannah stared at him blankly, he sighed and continued, "I am a dragon. My name is Ephastes. I have been trying all my long life to find the human destined to be my Guardian. And in all truthfulness, I believe that human to be you." The dragon said contentedly, joy dancing in his great eyes.

Hannah just stared dumbfoundly at Ephastes while he finished talking. What was this creature--dragon talking about? Dragons? They were creatures of legend, and yet here he stood, right before her eyes.

"Are you just going to stare stupidly at me or are you going to tell me what that light was?" Ephastes asked impatiently, looking positivly ferocious as he drew himself up to his full height.
"U-uh the flash was my c-camera... it takes pictures so I can look at what I saw later..." Hannah stammered, suddenly wary while she stood there shaking with fear and excitement in front of this beautiful dragon. "If I may ask, Ephastes, what do you mean by my being your Guardian?"

"I mean by being a Guardian, you will ride upon my back and help protect my land, forever at my side. For I am the leader of the Dragon Mountains, and our land has been invaded. Will you help us?"

Something clicked within Hannah's brain then. This was the chance of a lifetime. Something just felt right about what Ephastes had just told her. She looked into the great eyes and though she quivered a little she nodded, a small smile appearing on her face as she climbed aboard his broad back. Feeling his wings spread out underneath her, she knew she faced her true destiny today. She looked towards the setting sun and knew this to be right. She and Ephastes were one soul in the same...

These will be posted in the thread as well as here. Please save these onto your computer and upload them onto your own personal server once they become adults. If they have a codebox underneath them, then please use that code. The code will be a photobucket IMG code if the dragon is growing, and if the dragon is an adult only, it will be a tinypic IMG code. If the dragon is an adult, but still has a photobucket code, then it's time to save him or her to your own server. wink If the dragon has a tinypic code, it's fine to use either that code or your own.
The Pick Up post will be cleared each time the dragons from the next event are posted. If you for some reason cannot save your dragon in time, please ask and Wren will upload your dragon again for you.
