1. Obey the ToS
This should be self-explanatory. Any activity which breaks with the rules put down in the ToS will be immediately reported to a mod.
2. Do not attempt to steal the art and/or shop premise.
Please please, do not steal the art or banners for your own use, including all pets and any art contained within this thread, the guild or special event threads. We will track you down, and have you reported immediately.
3. Read the front page before posting, and do not quote the front page.
Many of your questions may be answered here, especially in the FAQ section, so please look here first before alerting a staff member.
4. If you must ask a question, please post here or the questions thread in the quild before PMing a staff member with your question.
FURTHERMORE, it is preferrable that you ONLY PM THE MULE. Other correspondance, especially unsolicited, will be ignored. It's only polite.
5. Do not advertise.
If you would like to affiliate, PM the mule and we will place a link in the corret front page post. Otherwise, it will be reported as spam.
6. Do not beg for pets, nor harrass the staff
If you do not yet have a pet, be patient and wait for a flatsale, raffle or similar event. If you are waiting for a custom, do not constantly pm, im or otherwise contact the artist incessantly; your weedling kills muses and will only further delay your pet's completion.
7. All sales are final.
There will be no refunds.
8. Roleplaying is mandatory.
We will rarely remove a pet because of lack of use, however, it is required that you rp in order for your pet to grow. Furthermore, there may be the rare auctioned pet for which the artist holds sentimental value and will request that it be rp restricted. In this case you must rp consistantly in order to maintain ownership of the pet, or else it may be offered up for re-sale.
9. Respect the staff.
They are here to help. If they are disrespected by you, do not expect them to answer your questions, concerns or to take pity on you. Being congenial and nice can only help you to acquire a pet!
10. There is no limit to how many pets you may own.
There arem however, limited growth, breeding and custom slots, so a little patience on your part may be required.
11. Do not confuse roleplay with reality.
Just because someone's pet insulted your pet does not mean that they insulted you. Keep this in mind. However, do not attempt to take out your aggressions by singling out a player in IC. If your pet is going to make a move which may be detrimental to another, be sure to run it by the other owner first.
12. No bumping, trolling, nonsense posts, or stretching the page purposely. No posting pictures for reasons not pertaining to rp.
Try to keep the thread free of spam.
13. The rules may be changed or edited at any time without notice, so be sure to check back for updates regularly.
We will always attempt to give notice, but at times it may get lost in the noise of the thread. Be front-page vigilant!

Aeons ago, in a world utterly unlike the known, there lived a race of beings who had reached the pinnacle of sentient achievement. They had harnessed the greatest forces for change in the universe: technology and magic, and bent them to their will. The combination of magic and technology improved the race in all ways. They became faster, stronger, more intelligent, and more beautiful, and especially more magical with each generation. Unfortunately, their reproductive habits remained unchanged, even though their lifespans were lengthened by centuries, and their world began to feel the burden of overpopulation - resources necessary to survival were stretched impossibly thin and there was nowhere that was untainted by the casting of unwarded magics.

It was evident that in a few generations all of the world's natural resources would be completely used up, and that something had to be done. Thus, the world's greatest mages came together and cast a spell to alter their very world, exchanging a slice of their world for a slice of another world, one which possessed the resources they needed. They cast this spell many times to bring into their own ruined world portions of other, pristine worlds. These segments of worlds were bound together where they all intersected, but the binding was the last great work the mages ever created, because the magical backwash from the spells they cast to contain each of the slices where they had been placed was devastating.

Very few of the original population survived. These went into the separate realms and mingled with the native folk that had accidentally been brought into their world, occasionally breeding to create a new race of half-breeds which were greater than the native people, for they were able to travel between the realms like those who had bound the realms together. These half-breeds also had characteristics of their "lesser" heritage which were amplified by the blood of those who came to call themselves the Nameless, making them better suited to the realm of their lesser parent than the true natives.

This secondary race quickly came to rule in the realms as the Nameless withdrew to the Hub, the point where all the realms were joined together. The strongest of this race from each realm became its ruler and was given the title Shere. The Shere rule for as long as they remain the strongest, able to defeat any challenger, but their power is checked by councils of elders, comprised of other members of their half-breed race from different clans, weaker singly, but able to defeat the Shere with their combined force.

As for the natives, each realm, having been taken from another world, is unique, and its natives are distinct peoples with their own gods, laws, and names. They have their own settlements which they govern as they see fit, providing their superiors allow them to. Most of them owe some sort of loyalty to one clan or another of the offspring of the Nameless, but for many it is little more than lip service, unless clans go to war, and then they are forced to defend the glory of their clans with their own blood.

The Planes are the realms into which the world of Dark Ether is divided. Each consists of at least one unique race, and the terrains are drastically different. The Wall seperates each from from its neighbours, and travel between them is achieved through expensive portals or the lengthy commute through the Hub.

The Island realm of Isola is the major producer within the realms, and it exports both the treasures of the sea and the earth. Populated by an exotic mix of merchants, farmers, fisherman and everything in between, the plentiful harvasts of rice, cotton and other staples have established the isle as a place for ambitious Shere to find, or make their fortunes. However, it also attracts more unsavory characters such as thieves, con artists and pirates. The law abiding and convicts alike can find a home here, enjoying different spectrums of the water and charisma based abilities available to the inhabitants of Isola.

Legno, in contrast to the island realm with which it shares a border (although no inhabitants of any realm may travel through these borders; they must exit and enter their own and other realms through the gates only), is a slower, earthier plane, which although lush and fertile, is not without its dangers. Here the Shere have retreated into mysticism, and their beliefs and actions are deeply rooted in the signals they perceive in the rocks, trees and rivers which dot the often misty valley. It does not help, either, that there are many trees which are so old as to have become entities upon themselves, and when they take a disliking to you, it is believed that none will see you alive after a stroll through their enchanted groves. Inhabitants of Legno are blessed with earth based abilities and tend to be deeply connected to the divine.

User Image
The realm of Fuso is unlike any other of the realms in that it is almost impossible to tell whether it is day or night within the blazing furnace of a plane. The many volcanoes which dominate the landsape belch soot and ash into the air on an almost constant basis, leaving the sky awash in shades of black and grey. A slight lightening and darkening of the horizen is the only indication of the passing of the days. The inhabitants of Fuso live in tall, onyx towers which have resisted the steam and magma since before time's remembering, or in labyrinths of caves which have been cooled by subterranean rivers. Water and food are both scarce within Fuso, but they maintain exturcellent trade with the outside world; all the precious stones and jewels constantly being created by the pressure and heat of the earth make for excellent currency. Residents of Fuso develop an affinity for fine craftswork, and achieve abilities related to metal and stone.

User Image
Scoli is a mountainous region which exists almost entirely above the clouds. Aeries perched on cliffsides and treehouses built on immense limbs of great redwoods harbor the residents of this realm; connected by hidden mountain paths and fibrous rope bridges this plane proves to be more than a little treacherous when it comes to terrain. Many of the inhabitants of Scoli have adapted to the weak air at this elevation, and often cherish their solitude, although there exists scattered clusters of nests and treehouse cities. Self-sufficient to an extreme, it is said the only way one may incorperate oneself into a Scoli settlement is to bring the only wares which interest these flighty people; glass beads, bright fabric or other purely ornamental objects. Abilities of the Shere located in Scoli tend to be related to knowledge and air.

User Image
Also called the Winterland, Inverno is a realm which experiences perpetual cold. Covered in snow and ice, its brutally low temperatures breeds even more brutal Shere, intent on carving out their own existance in the harsh wilderness of this plane. The inhabitants of Inverno are only interested in what is purposeful; there is no time wasted on appearance, although the Shere who emerge, not unscathed, from the realm are often reknowned for their pristine, if angry, beauty. Here the lodgings range from log cabins, cold stone castle keeps and comforting igloos carved from the ice and snow itself. Since produce is difficult to acquire, the Shere of Inverno trade in meats and furs, and a deep red ochre pigment called sanguine, the recipe for which is a jealously guarded secret. The abilities found in Shere of Inverno revolves around their indelible constitution and their penchants for ice and snow.

User Image
Sabbia is a desert wasteland, which is only made habitable by its rare wells guarded by shrouded Shere and even rarer oases. Despite the scarcity of water, the Sabbian Shere are reknowned for their hospitality, and are more often than not willing to share what they have with weary travelers. However, their motives tend to be shrouded more thoroughly than their bodies, as their tight-lipped nature is equally as infamous. Deeply superstitious, the Shere of the desert see dark omens on every horizen, and despite their hospitality, an outsider may find themselves hunted inexplicably because of a meteor shower which occured on the eve of their arrival, or for transgressing an unspoken law of this cryptic people. The inhabitants of this realm tend to be nomadic in nature, and their abilities tend to be related to sight, fire and heat.

User Image
Iungla is a plane of garrulous, talkative and down right chatty Shere, who delight in playing pranks on unwary travellers. These pranks may begin as harmless, but more often than not the cheeky monkeys' thirst for mirth can often cause things to spiral out of control. The jungles of Iungla allow the native Shere to live in secluded villages, although they are often off exploring the lush and dense landscape. Tricksters at heart, the jungle Shere nevertheless are clever and quick on their feet, and often their motives can be difficult to understand; as they will often engage in elaborate plans simply for the entertainment they receive from its execution. They trade mainly in rare fruits, and medicinal plants found in the darkest, deepest and most obscure places of the jungle, and their abilities are often related to cunning and agility.

What is Dark Ether?
Dark Ether is a B/C shop which is roleplay heavy, and is based in a spirit world which is made up of several realms. The goal of Dark Ether is not gold; instead we strive to maintain a shop which can provide its own characters, art, battle system and rewards to any parties interested. For this reason we encourage only players who plan on roleplaying on a fairly regular basis to join, although it is not mandatory.

Do I absolutely HAVE to roleplay?
Of course not! You may purchase a pet during our events or a custom without needing to roleplay it if you do not wish to. HOWEVER: your pet will not grow if it does not meet roleplay requirements. Also, certain auction pets may be rp mandatory, but if this is the case, it will be clearly written in any descriptions pertaining to the pet in any event.

How do I get one?
Pets are available to you in several ways: win one during a free raffle event, enter to win one during a flatsale, commision one through our custom slots (for more info on customs see page 2), or you may bid on an auction pet. Also, we allow current owners who have purchased a breeding slot to gift their offspring to a non-owner if they so wish. So if you're really lucky, and have friends with mated pets, maybe you'll receive one as a gift! Otherwise, we will attempt to have events on a fairly regular basis, so please be patient! On average they will occur monthly.

How much do they cost?
Raffle pets are free, all you need to do is enter, and hope you win! Flatsale pets, however, cost 20,000 gold each, and the price is non-negotiable, and non-refundable. Commisions cost more, depending on what you have in mind. More information on commisions can be found on page 2.

Can I get a payment plan?
Unfortunately no, we cannot offer a payment plan at this time. All payments must be made in full to the mule with 24 hours of purchase, and completed before receipt of the pet. We do not accept items in lieu of gold at this time.

Can my pet ever be taken away?
No, we will never take your pet away. However, inactivity may be penalized by a loss in points and a failure of your pet to grow.

Can I choose the realm of my pet?
You may only choose the realms of custom pets. Flatsale pets will already be assigned a realm unless otherwise noted.

I don't want my pet anymore, can I give it to a friend/sell it to someone else?
NO. Although the character is yours, the art is still the propety of this shop. You are at no time allowed to sell or give your pet without express permission from the shop owners. The only circumstance in which it is acceptable for the giving of a pet by a prior owner is if the aforementioned pet is the result of a breeding, and the gift had been approved by the shop. Any unwanted pets are to be returned to the shop for archiving or re-sale.

More to be added, as needed!
