Okay finally, xD I can edit again~

Since I, Arafel, have been a little busy and will still be kinda busy... I'm having a faithful questor Eight do the managing part~ I will still be judging the entries as always~ However I just don't have time to keep up with the day to day maintenance right now :<

So! Eight's in charge, like in the SS with DG, she'll use a different color (Eight sez firebrick) whenever it's her on the mule~ Otherwise listen to her <3 I'll check in periodically to make sure she hasn't gone mad with power >3>

Please note: Since disabilities are usually a sensitive issue, if anyone feels offended by anything a poster or even Arafel says, take the issue up with Arafel before bringing it into the thread. We don't want anyone feeling hurt but at the same time disabilities/disorders/etc. can be confusing and/or misunderstood. So if Ara plays the middle ground nobody gets hurt. Yay! <3

The Story

Prelude
It'd been two years since "the accident"... Alan had grown accustomed to being wheel-chair ridden, more recent events... like the dragons, and the more recent deaths and near-deaths of the cherished projects... It had all but been forgotten...

And once more, Alan had sat at his desk... revising his original project... No one questioned it when it took him an extra month or two... No one really understood the program as well as the boss. Until he was finally finished... "Done..." he had announced, weary and ragged... spending countless nights staring at the luminescence of his screen. The program was patched... and they could once more start selecting genetics to match one another... once more they could continue making projects.

D-corp was back...

Part I
"This isn't..." the tech stared, gaping at the first child to emerge under their new program... no one knew what to say as they stared at the plump mound of child... almost 4x the normal weight. "What do we do with her?" Another questioned, and yet another shrugged... "I suppose...." the fourth of them interjected... "We... continue as normal?"
With a gulp... they nodded in agreement, and jotted down notes... and with a group effort, managed to lift the bubbling little girl to take off to examination.

It wasn't hard, and it didn't take more than a few days to detect the problem... Hypothyroidism. A common problem... easily fixed by drug-therapy. Simply replace the missing thyroid hormone and voila... she'd be a normal functioning child... just, day to day

But why... D-tech404 had to wonder, why would there be a genetic anomaly within their projects? He shook his head, brushed it aside... No, what did it matter? There had been other defects... Albinism, blindness... even a small touch of autism in one of the children, most likely passed down from a tech that had gone undiagnosed.

Part II
The second problem hadn't been easy to spot... No one had even noticed it, yet, actually... until the third child had arrived and upon examination the bat could not hear. The discorvery had been most detrimental... 404 stood, staring at the large bat ears... frowning deeply. A bat without the ability to hear... that meant it lost a primary ability, originally it would have been placed with a cave-dragon, allowing it to use ecolocation... but, now what? That was for later but the best the little creature could do was glide... to which he had no trouble showing off... but as soon as the roudy deaf-boy was placed with the wolf girl in the bedroom-area... things had gotten bad.

The overweight rat had not started anything paticularly bad with the wolf-girl... but the bat, who couldn't monitor his pitch-- kept making shrill noises in spite of himself... and the wolf, was left to scream and cry in a fit... of course he couldn't hear her, either, so 404 who was in charge of the latest projects stepped in... removing the girl to a solitary area...

And then the beluga... yes, that one had much of the same symptomology... it was ruled that both were within the autism spectrum. It was at that point, with four flawed projects in a row... that the tech tromped to the elevator, pressing the button in a fit of irritation to rise to a higher level... no, a higher power... Alan. The boss... when he'd first stated, angrily that something was wrong... he'd been warned not to question the man, but... there was no excuse!

It didn't take long for the elevator to "ding" and 404 to bust into Alan's office... leaving the man with a surprised expression. "Boss!" He huffed, trying to catch his breath that he'd lost over his quick pace "The project is flawed! we have to cancel it immediatly...! Theres something wrong with the new program you wrote..." the tech almost-calmly explained... hands balled up if only from sheer nerves.

Alan narrowed his eyes at the accusation... "Its not flawed." he swallowed, "These are merely coincidental..." yes, Alan was a genious... his work, his breakthroughs... those things had proven his credibility, like many in this building... To be accused of spending that long on a program that was flawed... "I am aware of your concern but these arn't the first genetic anomolies we've had..."

404 frowned... he'd hoped Alan would have been more concerned about the projects... he used to be, right? They were kids too! "Yes but.. they're the first ones we've had consecutively..."

Alan continued to stare, sternly... "Please leave, 404..." he announced... the tech stared a moment... becoming obviously angry, but with a nod... and a "Yes..." he turned to leave...

Alan stared at the closed door, now left alone... his look softened and he heaved a sigh, pressing his palm to his forehead... emitting a soft mumble to himself "What have I done...?"

Naturally, the other canine invites her to play/hangout, whatever, seeing as they're of similar age and species... and whatever other reasons he or she may have, however... your child's social impairment starts showing. Here and there, depending on where you chose... and for a social animal such as a canine, this can be very important. What happens~?

A common trait for any child on the autism spectrum is extreme likes and extreme dislikes... for likes it can be things like enjoying a certain sensation, like something being soft, or a cube, but can hate something else, like the feel of wool... and another big problem is over-stimulation... Loud noises, sudden movements, maybe someone was drumming their fingers on the desk just too long, the natural response is a panic attack, of sorts... "tantrum" and most commonly referred to as "Meltdowns"~ describe such an event.

A note on melt-downs: Personally, I have no control over it... its not like a "I want it! Wah!" tantrum, its just a "I need to effing kick and flail and do something because I'm going to explode so please let me finish" If that helps anyone. >>

Do you even know sign language... these things can be pretty awkward if you don't. Furthermore, what sort of advice does your boy get from these wise older deaf people?

Deafness can cause a lot of other problems... specifically, socially awkward problems. A young boy usually learns where to aim when going to the bathroom by avoiding the noise of pouring water-- but many young deaf children never learn this unless told. Among other issues~ Your child is a teen... and entering high school, when he encounters one of these problems unknowingly. Please explain what happens~

A problem with autism spectrum is, once again, stimuli! This time... it's food. The texture of food can be a much bigger deciding factor over taste (I know this personally, the crunch of vegetables make me gag~ I like the way mozzarella cheese squishes in my mouth but I hate the taste-- I eat it anyways. I can only eat a certain width of noodle... etc.etc.etc) so trying to feed your child at this point is being extremely difficult... furthermore, you have no idea why she/he isn't eating! How do you handle this, and how do you find out what the root of the problem is?
