Well, no point in just standing there, little animal. Bad news, you died. Good news, our gracious Mother has given you a second chance at a more interesting life. You'll need to hold on to this runestone. Don't lose it. If you lose it, you can't get back here - the In Between. Think of it as your home base and the All Mother's stomping grounds.
Make sure to come back every now and then to offer a gift. She can hold a grudge you know. She brought you back and she can take you right back out.

You glimpse a woman with vibrant markings. She is missing an eye and in its place are black roses. However, you notice something in her chest move. It is presumably a third eye and it is focused squarely on you.
The All Mother.....
She has an alluring scent to her but it is acidic and sharp. It makes you dizzy the longer you smell it. You want to approach her but every instinct in your mind is telling you to keep your distance.
It is only now that you notice that she is looking at you. Her lips curl into a small smile. It is both menacing and seductive. The All Mother eventually loses interest in you and turns away and disappears within the light, forest mist.
A space in between spaces. It is a peaceful glade filled with cool running water and young trees. It is surrounded by large, rocky crags where a tall, porcelain white tree sits in the middle. At the base is a hollow space where an ornate throne sits empty.
This is the All Mother's realm and it's where you find yourself as you wake from the initial haze of your new life....
You have become an animal reborn with a human consciousness and a somewhat human form. You begin in the In Between with Janus acting as your rather haphazard guide. You start your new life with a strange talisman made of white sandstone etched with strange runes. It is your only way back to the All Mother's realm. Janus recommends that you return every now and then with an offering for the goddess or test the limits of her patience. It could be food, cash, a flower, or whatever you find curious or important.
You will also use the talisman to return to the human realm. It will take you to the heart of a busy city with a large, elegant white apartment tower. It will be your new home for now and Janus will be there to lead you to your new spacious apartment with all the modern amenities that you might need. Perhaps you will see another filium and strike up a conversation.
Humans are not allowed in the tower and they seem to avoid it as if a magic barrier keeps them at length. Humans in general don't seem to realize anything is strange with you. A strong haze of magic surrounds you and disguises you from the general crowd. Other filiums will be able to see through the haze, however, so don't get too comfortable.
Feel free to begin your new life as a filium. The All Mother's magic makes you hardy and not easy to kill with your beauty not fading with time. Find a new job. Strike up a romance or friendship. Travel the world. It's all up to you but remember.... the All Mother waits in the In Between for your offering.
The All Mother has captured your essence into a stone. Now, we wait
for you to materialize into your true form. Don't discard your old shell though.
You'll be using this runestone to come back to the In Between.

Stage Two: The Filium
You are fully realized and have taken your true humanoid form. Now,
what to do with your new life is up to you. The world awaits you and Janus can be a (somewhat) helpful guide.
Filium do not have any overt powers. They do not age, are hard to kill, and are stronger/faster than humans. The only filium that can wield magic at this time is Janus.
2. How do the filium get to the In Between?
A drop of blood to the runestone is all that it takes to transport a filium to the All Mother's realm. The same tactic is used to return to the human world.
3. Can filium change into their respective animals?
No, they cannot. They must get used to their new humanoid forms.
4. Can you meet the All Mother?
Yes, you will have a greater chance of meeting her in the In Between, especially if you bring an offering. You should keep your distance though. Her touch can be deadly. She does not speak, however, and will only relay messages through her emissary - Janus.
5. So.... what can filium do exactly with their new life?
That is up to the filium. Janus can be very helpful in guiding them toward an interesting career path or helping them travel. He is quite good at pulling strings.
6. Can there be more than one filium of the same animal species?
No, all filium will be a distinct animal species.
7. Will breeding between filium be possible?
No, the All Mother will just create more filium if she wants to increase her brood.

If you enter Janus' room, you will find yourself in a modern, clean space with minimal decoration and color. The living room area is nearly the size of most one bedroom apartments in the city. Your eye is drawn to the large, elegant painting of a peaceful looking village nestled in an idyllic valley. A clear, blue stream runs through the town and a large obelisk stands in the village square.
The canvas is so large that it takes up the entire wall of Janus' living room and anyone who stands next to it will be dwarfed in size. There is a small desk that sits to the corner of the large painting and bright, expensive oil pants are organized neatly on its surface. The paintbrush looks like it's been recently used.
At that moment, you notice that there are small additions added to the painting. Intricately decorated creatures of myth dance about the edges of the canvas. Did Janus add these? The paint he used looks... odd. You swear that the brushstrokes almost seem to be -- writhing?
The longer that you stare at the canvas the more you begin to feel the pull of it on your body. There is something wrong with the painting. Except, fear is not what contains you. It is curiosity. Your body fills with a thrumming energy as you touch the rough surface of the canvas. A warmth envelopes you and you vanish - leaving an empty silence to remain in Janus' room.

WELCOME TO THE PAINTED WORLD
The Painted World is a world within the All Mother universe. By sheer chance, Janus has found that his blood - when mixed with oil paints - can give life to subjects that he finds interesting. Namely, these are mythical creatures. Janus has begun to add creatures to the borders of the painting of his room and they live within the canvas.
All a filium has to do to visit these mythical creatures is to touch the painting.

1) Why is the Painted World a thing?
It's a sneaky way for me to add mythical creatures to the canon universe without breaking it, lmao. I mean, everyone loves dragons and other sorts. I wanted to see them as filium.
2) Can filium visit the mythical filium in the painting?
Yes, all they have to do is touch the painting in Janus' room and they'll be teleported into the canvas. To leave, they need to touch the obelisk in the village square - which has a small painting of Janus' living room.
3) How do I get a mythical filium?
You can snag a mythical filium through All Mother contests and events. You cannot quest for one at this time.
4) Can I have more than one mythical filium?
Yes, but as always, please try not to hoard them all, lol.
5) Can the mythical filium leave the painting?
No, they are trapped in the canvas. If they attempt to leave it, they will die or disappear.
6) Is there a weather system in the painting?
Yes and it is random. It does not necessarily reflect the weather of the outside world.
7) Can the mythical filium die?
Technically yes. All Janus has to do is destroy the painting.
8 ) Is there a mini-world in the canvas with different locations that you can't see?
No, you get what you see. If you attempt to go past the 'borders' of the painting, all you'll find is a cliff edge into a abyss. I do not recommend stepping off....
9) What about food and other amenities for the mythical filium?
Janus makes weekly trips into the painting to provide food and other items as needed by the trapped filium. It is kind of a weird pet terrarium for him... but with wild creatures with their own stories.
10) What kind of living spaces do the mythical filium have?
They all live in cozy, medieval houses. They are all packed together within the village so hopefully they like their neighbors...
11) Are there other fauna in the painted world?
Other than some random woodland creatures such as birds, rabbits, small insects, etc., no, there are no major fauna in the painted world.
12) Do the mythical filium have stages?
Nope! They spring up in their full form once you win one 8D
