Paperbacks are my choice. They are smaller so I can better find room for them. Owning hundreds of books tend to fill whole apartment really quickly.
If I had the money I'd prefer to buy hardback books for some reason they're easier to read. But if i borrow books from the library I prefer to borrow paperback books becaue carrying hardback books to school can be annoying.
I usually buy paperbacks. I can't afford to buy every book I want in hardcover. Plus, I can store paperbacks easier as they're generally smaller so they take up less room on my bookshelf. Sometimes I'll go with hardcover, when its a gift or I just can't wait for it to come out paperback (Harry Potter 5 being an example of this).
paperback, unless the hardback is on the clearance rack for the same price
i really like the hard cover books. like you said, they last alot longer and are pretty to look at. but then again, i have a book with me everywhere i go (i carry one in my purse. i might as well have some use for it...) and for that paper back is super convienient.
if there is a series of books, i usually always get them in hard back. all my harry potter books arein hard back, and all my narnia books are in hard back. series of unfortunate events are in hard back too. i get paper back too because its easier t carry around
used book stores baby!

I adore hard cover books... I only pick up soft covered at library sales. I'll pay 25 cents for one...
I like paperback because I'm usually on a budget. Plus, the books are smaller than the hardbacks and I don't hurt myself with them.
I like paperback.. hardcover books are heavy and it makes my hand tired after a while.
I usually buy paperbacks because they are cheaper and easy to carry around. I sometimes buy some random hardcovers from sales. If I find author/book very good then I usually try to find hardcover to replace the paperback, or buy author's forthcoming books in hardcovers. I never get rid of my paperbacks, even if I also have hardcover, I may still want to read that book when I'm traveling or on the beach or anywhere...
I love paperbacks, but sometimes I hold the book in my hand too long and I wind up with a sore pinky. ^^;
typically, i prefer paperback and there is a reason. i do enjoy having the hardbacks so they can look pretty on my shelf but i really don't think they are the best to take on a trip to viet nam or spain or england.
paperback for me....easier to read plus you can bend them easy even though it makes the cover and pages fall out sweatdrop
