"Damn it......what's with this fog?" Kail Reeves grumbled to himself as he drove slowly down the gravel road through what seemed like a forest. From what he could tell, he was close to a place called Silent Hill. Creepy name, and it seemed perfect for the dismal surroundings. Reeves was quite a ways from his home, which wasn't usual for him, but he had something very important to take care of here. He'd received a letter about a week ago......telling him to come here. It seemed someone had figured out who he really was.....and was threatening to go public with the information if Reeves didn't give him what he wanted.....which of course was money. His gaze shifted to the seat next to him, where the letter, a case of money, and a gun sat. He wasn't into violence anymore, but he wanted to bring something just in case. He was about 5 minutes away when the car suddenly started to sputter. In moments, the car died, and everything came to a complete stop.
"What...???" Kail said as he tried to restart the car. No use, it wasn't about to start.
"Damn it! This is rediculous!" He yelled, letting his head hit the steering wheel, which caused a loud BEEP! He let out a weary sigh, then slowly sat back up.
Well........looks like I might as well continue on foot. There should be a car shop in town.....I hope. He thought before opening the car door and getting out, going around to the other side and grabbing his gun, which he holstered, the breifcase, and the letter. He then shut and locked the car and started walking. He'd reach the town soon. Hopefully the place would be more welcoming than it seemed.

Indeed, the town was much more welcoming then it seemed. In fact...there was a even a welcoming wagon waiting for him, at the end of Nathan Avenue.

The tall man in black tapped the toe of his immaculate boot on the concrete slowly, waiting for his guest. What should have been a small click-click-click became a booming echo in the empty street. For most, it would have been an oppressive, ominous sound. But to 'Stitch-Face', as he was sometimes called, it was a comfort. This town had dead air, and any noise was a welcome one. Even the occasional shriek or wail of pain shattered the monotony.

His 'face' tweaked and stretched in some semblance of a smile. Stitch-Face could feel the anger and distress his guest was projecting. That was unfortunate. If he could not quell his anger, he would be doomed, and either die at his own hands or descend into madness and never climb out.

Kail walked along until he finally reached the town. He glanced around, feeling chills creep down his spine. There was no sound, no people, nothing.
Silent Hill......very fitting indeed...... He thought before a sound suddenly reached his ears. It sounded like a foot tapping.
Maybe there IS someone here after all. He thought before heading in the direction of the sound. He walked until coming to the end of a road called Nathan Avenue. There he could see a tall man in black, though he couldn't yet see his face.
"Excuse me?" He started as he walked closer, trying to get where he could see the man's face. Nothing yet........He moved closer.....still nothing. He blinked, he couldn't be seeing what he was seeing. This man.....did he......was he faceless?
No way.....there must be something in the air.... He thought, trying to calm himself down. He felt his flesh tingle and the little hairs stand up on the back of his neck as a cold sweat began to pour over him. He opened his mouth to speak, but he couldn't. All he could do was stare at the blank face, somehow feeling sickness stirring up inside him.

Stitch-Face held his gloved hands up in a passive gesture. He was really of no harm, but, unfortunately, to convey this to his guest, he was going to have to scare the living daylights out of him first. Sigh.

Slowly, he reached into his coat and pulled out a long, rusted kitchen knife. Still holding his left hand up in a show of peace, he drew the blade across his blank face. The pale flesh easily gave way and split open, sending out a spray of blood as the thousands of capillaries and small veins burst under the pressure of the knife. Stitch-face stepped back so that the blood wouldn't splatter Kail.

Once he had split himself ear-to-ear, the gash opened wide and stretched, revealing jagged black teeth, that more resembled sharp chunks of metal rammed into his dark grey gums. A long wriggling tongue slid out of his mouth and tasted the air, before slithering back inside.

The ghastly mouth curled into a grin.

"So sorry to scare you like that. But I was rendered speechless, you see. I go by Stitch-Face, or SF, if you wish. And I will hopefully be guiding you down the path of redemption."

The grin widened, ripping the sides of his mouth, sending more blood dribbling down his chin and staining his shirt.

Kail watched in terror as the stranger took a rusted knife and then "carved" a mouth for himself. He felt bile rising in his throat and he let out a loud gasp at seeing the blood gushing from the severed skin. As SF had moved back, so had he. The only difference was he fell to his rear, as his legs had suddenly become weak. He'd seen blood before, he'd seen gore and heard blood-curdling screams...but never had he been as horrified as he was right now. His heart was throbbing so loudly that he almost didn't hear the man when he spoke.
"Stitch.....face....?" He repeated, a shocked look glued to his face.
Stitch face......stitch face?!
His expression suddenly went from terrified to enraged. He jumped up, sending a glare SF's way.
"Is this some kind of joke to you?!" He yelled, believing the man in front of him to be his blackmailer. After all, the guy's "name" was the very action he used to perform on his victims, not to mention he was talking about "redemption". No one else would have known to say that to him, so this must be the guy. Maybe that whole face-cutting thing was even some kind of sick joke, just to get Reeves on edge. Kail held out the letter towards him, glaring angrily.
"What the hell is this?! You try to blackmail me, then when I come you do something twisted like that! Who are you really?"

SF reached out one white, long fingered hand and plucked the note from Kail's hand, his obscenely long nails brushing the tips of his fingers. He elegantly raised the paper to his face, and taking his pinky nail on his left hand, made two small slits, about 2 inches above the 'mouth'. Two brown eyes flickered open, small trickles of blood oozing down.

The eyes scanned the paper, darting over the words several times. SF's mouth twitched in amusement.

After several agonizingly quiet moments, SF threw back his head and laughed. It was a high-pitched, grating sound, like a bladed saw against bone. His dark hair whipped around his face when he doubled over, moved by his mirth.

"Oooho. My dear fellow, this is not my writing. I believe this is the writing of a man who does not exist. But that's what guilt does. It blinds you. I knew a man who had killed his wife, and was so wracked with guilt, that he formed a delusion. He believed she had died 3 years prior, when in fact, he had killed her not even 24 hours earlier. And he too had a letter. A letter from someone who was departed or did not exist. Perhaps your letter is much the same."

SF chuckled and threw the letter back in Kail's face. It slapped him harshly in the cheek and floated to the ground....blank.

Reeves had felt his skin crawl when SF's finger's brushed his own. He'd watched with disgust as the man had "cut out" his eyes. There had been a long moment of silence before the guy started laughing, if you could call it that. It hurt Kail's ears and he was forced to cover them, only to release them yet again when the man started talking. He was certain the man was crazy now...at least that was what he'd thought before the letter was thrown in his face and dropped to the ground. Kail was astounded. How could this be? He picked the letter back up, turning it this way and that in a confused manner. There was nothing there, not a damn word.
"But......how.....?" He said to no one in particular, looking in shock and bewildered.
I'm not crazy! This letter had words on it, I know it did! He argued with himself as he tried to understand how this could be possible. It was true that he was wracked with guilt over what he'd done in the past, but could that guilt really be enough to stir up visions and fantasies?

SF patted Kail's shoulder, truly feeling sorry for the poor man. He had been living some semblance of a normal life up until now.

"Yes...I know it's hard to accept. To be told that you're mad."
The long nails plucked at Kail's collar absentmindedly. SF always relished company, no matter how short-lived.

Kail jolted when the man touched him. He didn't like being touched, especially when the guy was slitting his face open.
"I'm not mad. If I were insane I'd be locked in away in some asylum by now." He said, moving away from SF. He glanced around, there really wasn't anyone around. It was so strange, and very unnerving.

SF chuckled and shook his head, his hair seeming to slither over his shoulder.

"Not all madmen are confined, Mr. Reeves. Some pass for a sane man quite nicely. And others are so mad that they're merely deemed 'eccentric'. Maybe...maybe you're not mad. Merely confused and frightened. Which is it?"

Kail clenched his fists slightly. This Stitchface had him pinned in a corner. Either he admitt he was crazy, or admitt he was a scared little panzy. He set his jaw, letting out a small growl of annoyance before answering.
"The latter of course! I'm not crazy!" He growled, looking like a cat when frightened, as his hair seemed to be standing on end.

SF's crooked gap of a mouth twisted in a genuine smile. He let out a soft, low chuckle, so unlike his previous cackle.
"Good. Perhaps we can save you after all." he cooed, patting Kail's head.

Kail twitched upon being patted like a child. He hated being treated like a nieve little boy. Then SF's words hit him.
"Huh? Save? What are you talking about?" He asked, staring up at the much taller man.

SF cocked his head. "You've been walking on the path of damnation for many years. And you've left a long trail of corpses on that path. Hopefully, here, in Silent Hill, we can confront your guilty memories, and you can be forgiven."

"Will you try? Or do you wish to leave, right now? If you come any farther in town, you cannot change your mind."
