Some people dream in color, and some dream in black and white. Some people like lilies, and others like daisies or roses or daffodils. Now take a moment, just one moment, and imagine if these two simple factors could affect the rest of your life.

Every so often, five young people are given the opportunity to become more alive than ever before. If they accept, they see everything brighter; more vividly than before. Smells smell better, feelings feel better. Everything is seen, if you'll pardon the pun, through rose-colored glasses. The Colors, as you will come to know them, don't feel that anything could ruin them. They are happier than ever, and never want this high to end.

The Monotones, however, know better. The Monotones used to be the colors. They're a little older, a little duller, a little sadder. They knew that high, that rush, and they felt the end of it; the time when your chance runs out and everything goes back to being worse than they ever knew it. Think of it as enhancing a few years of your life in return for the rest of it becoming duller and sadder than before. The Monotones badly want to warn these five youngsters, but must figure out how to do it quickly and stealthily.

In the meantime, they have simply made it their goal to protect the Colors from the damage than can come from feelings that are stronger, lights that are brighter, and love that goes deeper.

The Rose falls in love fast and very, very often. She is kind, gentle, and always genuine, but she loses her head when she meets someone new. The Rose wears her heart on her sleeve in the worst way possible; this falling in love all over the place often results in getting hurt. Often the others feel the need to protect her. Before she became a Color, she was very friendly, and very plain. Her crushes were often responded to with 'just friends'. Even though now she has the advantage of being older and more noticeable, The Rose really just wants to find her One.

The Daffodil is sunny. When most people see him, he is only happy. Granted, that means that when something bad happens, he's the one who gets hurt the most, and stays that way the longest, but luckily bad things don't happen in these people's lives very often. Before this life, he was the comic relief who no one really even liked. He was the only one who laughed as his own jokes. Now he can make anyone smile with his endless wit. He's always been attracted to people who are the exact opposite of himself, in spite of how strong his own personality is, which leads him to be the male equivilant of The Rose when it comes to love.

The Lily tries to take care of everyone. She is honest, loyal to an unreasonable end, and feels the compulsion to make everything right. She may not be the most feeling person, but she really does try. Keep in mind, it isn't that The Lily is serious, she just isn't quite as happy as say, The Daffodil, who it just so happens she has a little bit of a thing for. Normally she tries to be upfront and blunt, but in this one case she is too afraid of rejection to come clean.

If The Lily is the mother of the group, The Sunflower is the father. He, too, spends most of his extra effort trying to protect the other Colors. Of all of them, he is the most worried about the Monotones; he recognizes how much pain they could really cause his friends. He doesn't want that. It just so happens that he, the protector of all of them, has been in love with The Rose for as long as he can remember. He can't stand it when she comes to him with a new love interest.

            [the ø r c ħ i d - the g ε n τ l ε]

The Orchid never means any harm. She's gotten better at being outgoing, and is even funny when she feels like it, but the underlying theme of quiet introversion is still there. She has a smile that could break someone's heart, and a childlike innocence that is probably fitting for someone who sees the world so perfectly to have. The Orchid is really just looking for someone who is as much of a homebody as she is; that's probably why, despite her slight attraction to The Sunflower, she really has her eye on The Pansy.

The Pansy was one of the brightest Colors of them all. He brought a little bit of sunshine to everyone's lives; the past version of The Daffodil. When that wonder was taken away from him, when he began to see in duller colors, feel less sensation, he just didn't know how to take it. He became quiet, and curled up inside himself, feeling that the only way to avoid that kind of shock again would be to try to avoid any sort of risks altogether. He has seen that The Orchid admires him, but even that frightens him too much. He doesn't want to get hurt again.

The Dahlia fell in love when she was a Color. Unfortunately, she made the mistake of falling in love with someone who was not. He used her while they were together, feeding off the extra energy and love that she brought to the relationship, but she never realized it. She was happy. Then when she lost that, when she became a Monotone, The Dahlia didn't know what to do. She acted like she felt, and he left her without a second thought. Without even a goodbye. Her only comfort now is The Tulip, who seems to always know what she needs to hear.

The Calla was so strong before. He could take anything; a modern-day Superman. When he changed, his approach to recovery was to simply stop caring altogether. He figured that it was better to not see or care about anything than to become like The Pansy and leave the world altogether. He has only a small amount of his former self left, and what is there he uses to try and help the others warn the Colors.

            [the ƒ o r g ε t-m ε-n o t -- the w o я я i e d]

The Forget-Me-Not is the one who worries most about these new Colors. She's the one who managed to stop her own self-pity and think about these new five people. Being the honorary leader of the Monotones, she makes all the plans, and is usually the one to deal with The Sunflower. As a result, she's found herself loving how bright and passionate he is. When she was a Color, she was in love with The Calla, but now she has begun trying to replace him with the Color equivilant of how he used to be.

The Tulip gets along best with The Dahlia for a reason. He also fell in love with a regular person when he was a color. The difference, and it is a crucial one, is that she didn't use him. She didn't leave him. When he changed over, The Tulip felt that it wasn't fair to stay with her, and so he left her with a simply apology, and very little explanation. He came to regret it. When he found out what The Dahlia had gone through, he saw it as a chance to almost make it up to his old love. And so, that's exactly what he's trying to do.
